The portions are very generous, and most of the pastries are large enough to share, especially if you are planning to sample a few different items. Everything is displayed behind the counter, making it easy to browse before ordering, though having so many choices can make it take longer to decide. The biggest thing to plan for is the crowd. There is often a line extending outside, especially on weekends and during the summer, but it usually moves faster than it looks because the staff is well organized. Seating is extremely limited, so most people take their pastries to go. It is also worth remembering that the original North End location is cash only, so bringing cash can save you from any surprises. Mike's Pastry is a classic Boston destination that lives up to its reputation if you enjoy rich Italian pastries. The cannoli are the obvious reason to visit, but the wide selection, generous portions, and historic atmosphere make it worth experiencing at least once, even with the crowds.

This location is the original, but there are now others. It tends to be crowded with about 6 or so long lines. It's probably because it's a block from the Freedom Trail near Paul Revere's house and popular Italian restaurants and shops. If you see people walking around with a white (multiple cannolis/desserts) or blue (single cannoli) box tied with string, you know you must be nearby a Mike's Pastry. Though the line gets long, it does move quickly, and there are periods where it's not so crowded inside. It's cash only at this location. I didn't think I'd be here that day and realized I didn't crab enough cash but saw the sign for Uber Eats and GrubHub pick up, so I just placed an order for pick up from my phone on Uber Eats. It took about 5 minutes when I got my cute blue box order. There is a Bank of America down the same street if you need to withdraw cash which I later did. I'm sure there's also ATMs nearby. I think it's easier and quicker to order through Uber Eats or GrubHub and pick up. I've been here once before about 12 years ago. I tried the pistachio cannoli that time and loved it. This time, I wanted to try a different flavor, so I got the hazelnut cannoli. It didn't have the nuts I was expecting from the photo on the wall. It didn't quite taste like hazelnut to me at all. I regretted not trying something else. I eventually did at Hub Hall (another food hall) connected to North Station. This location is a little more expensive by $1-2 for cannolis compared to the one in Hub Hall and sells other desserts like turnovers, donuts, croissants and sticks if you don't want a cannoli (but then why come here for anything else?) There's also nowhere to sit.

Came back again on another trip and had to stop by Mike's Pastry once again! Before you go, make sure you have cash (it is cash only). The inside is very simple - just a large area to order your pastries and go. It gets super busy in here and it's often filled with people waiting in line. The people behind the counter are quick to pack your order and are always friendly. The pastries have never disappointed. The Neapolitan was a very good, true pastry like the ones I get in New York. The icing is sweet, the layers were crunchy, and the filling was the perfect amount.

Pastry store with lots of options and flavors! Cash only. When you walk in you can see cases of pastries and workers ready to take your order. The box it up for you and tie it up after asking if you want some powdered sugar to top on your pastries. The pistachio cannoli had great texture. First bite had all the pistachio pieces. The middle part was not too sweet with a slightly crisp crust wrapping it. The Boston cream slice was ok. Was not for me texture wise but did like the chocolate on top.

When we were at Harvard we saw Mike's Pastry and I thought about stopping in to buy cannoli but I didn't because we were planning to go to Paul Revere's house in North End and this Mike's Pastry location is a couple of blocks away. If I had gone to the Harvard location I would have been in and out in 5-10 minutes. That was not the case at the North End location but in fairness it was Friday night and around the time people want dessert. The North End location had four lines from the counter to the door with the line out the door. They take cash only but while you wait you have plenty of time to decide on what you actually want to get. They have 10+ cannoli flavors plus many other pastries. We opted for a pistachio cannoli and a amaretto cannoli. The cannoli were twice the size of what I was anticipating so we split one on Friday and split the other on Saturday. If I went back I'd get the amaretto again. The pistachio was mostly ricotta tasting. If you go, go early and bring cash!

Went to Mike's Pastry while in the North End since it's one of the most well-known spots for cannoli and desserts. The line moved decently fast and there are a lot of options to choose from. The cannoli was good--filling was creamy and fresh--but I wish they had smaller sizes available. It felt a bit heavy finishing a full-sized one. Solid experience overall, just would've preferred a mini option.

Mike's Pastry is one of the many amazing pastry shops in the NorthEnd. If you are visiting Boston, you gotta try both Mike's and Modern. Both are great, and it's fun to do taste tests to find who is better at what. I loved the black and white cookie from Mike's. It's soft, sweet, and a great size. I had wished the cannoli had a crispier shell and was sweeter, but it's still a really good cannoli.

Mike's Pastry is worth trying, especially if you're visiting Boston for the first time. When we arrived, the line was out the door, but don't let that discourage you. It moved fast! One thing we didn't realize beforehand is that it's cash only, so be prepared. Thankfully, there was an ATM nearby so we were able to get cash. Okay, after returning to Boston, I managed to try the actual Mike's (and its rival across the street, Modern). The huge lines seem intimidating, but they go by quite quickly, and it spreads into 3 separate lines inside. Bear in mind they are CASH ONLY. They do box your orders nicely with their iconic string. :) Although they're known for their cannoli, you can also order other pastries like eclairs, whoopie pies, brownies, cheesecakturnovers, florentines, scones, croissants, cookies, and even Dubai chocolate. Their pastry variety is endless. I ordered the Mint chip and Pistachio cannoli. Both were decadent but not too heavy or sweet. One downside is that I felt they were a bit drier than Modern, but otherwise comparable. Each was $8, although you can get "kits" for cheaper (some flavors like Dubai chocolate are more expensive). I'd love to come back and try the rest of their cannolis and pastries!

We showed up on a Wednesday around 3:30 pm there was a little line but it went fast. I already knew I wanted the pistachio. Only got one cost $8 in cash. No seating inside it's take and go. The box and string are a nice touch. Found it to be delicious and a good size . I would have given this closer to 4 stars because the $8 seems a little steep. But the packaging alone might cost $2. It is popular and famous for a reason

Mike's vs Modern is to cannoli's what Pat's and Geno's is to cheesesteaks in Philly. We got here on a Thursday around 2pm and we walked right up to the counter. The lady friend wasn't ready since she had heard there would be a long line before we arrived. The lady at the counter was operating as if they were really busy hurrying us along. We ordered a Florentine with Espresso filling and a traditional cannoli from the Soup Nazi then took them to the park to eat. I guess she would be a Cannoli Fascist in this example...anyway back on track. The Florentine is not for me. Too dense and too sweet since it's a rolled out almond cookie made into the shell. The espresso filling was good despite me not being a coffee fan. The traditional rolled in chocolate chips is where it's at! Perfect texture, not too sweet but sweet enough. Absolutely delicious. Get here early on a weekday if possible but be prepared to order or "No cannoli for you! 1 month!"

This spot is THE spot to grab a cannoli. My wife is from NY and is part Italian so she required a cannoli and after passing hundreds of people carrying Mike's Pastry boxes around the decision was easy. I've never been a fan of cannoli but I thought I might as well try just one more to see if I could be swayed. This place was packed, however they had many lines to order and pay. The staff were on their A game even though it was loud and busy. We were in and out in no time.I ordered the caramel pecan and it was delicious. The shell was nice and flaky and the filling was delicious. If I were choosing a dessert a cannoli still wouldn't be my go to m, however Mike's has definitely changed my opinion of them.

Maybe this place is just a tourist trap, but I dropped by because I heard such great things about it. I guess I lucked out because when I went (Wednesday, around 3 PM), there was virtually no line. I heard it can get super busy, so beware. This place is cash only, and the service is really straight-to-the-point. I guess they just want people in and out quickly. There's not really anywhere you can sit, so definitely just get what you want and go. The bakery itself is kept very simple and minimal. Sweets are displayed behind the glass, and there are plenty of signs along the wall that display what they have to offer. There were a lot of different goodies, but I noticed that people really only ordered the cannolis. I got a singular chocolate chip cannoli, and I think it really threw the person helping me off that I only got one to try. Pastries are packaged in a nice blue box and securely tied with a long string. The cannoli itself tasted pretty nice, but I wish there were more chocolate chips other than the ones that coated the areas of visible filling. I liked that the shell was crunchy and flaky. I can't say much because this was my first time having a cannoli, so I have no point of comparison. Not sure if I can eat a lot of it in one sitting.

Like where I'm from in NYC, there are a lot of overhyped tourist trap places that a lot of tourists seem to flock to because they're well...hyped. Here in Boston, it is no different. I was very eager to try out the desserts and pastries here since there are decent reviews here on Yelp and the photos of the food here looked delectable. Like every hyped venue, my party and I were greeted with a long line out the door. It took about 10 minutes just to order. I settled for several cannolis and a lobster tail since these seem to be the hot-sellers here. Upon first bite, I noticed that the cannoli tasted a bit stale. Maybe I received a bad batch of cannolis or they all just taste stale here. Who knows? I wasn't a big fan of the cannolis here. I did however look forward to trying out the lobster tail because it was humongous and filled with cream. Overall, it was slightly better than the cannoli in my opinion, but it still didn't justify the 10 minute wait. The lobster tail was a bit on the hard side as I had quite a difficult time eating it. I do suggest if you're planning on ordering the lobster tail, split it with someone as it is large in size. I probably will not be returning here since there are way better bakeries that offer pastries where I'm from. I'd say try out this place if you haven't been here before just to say that you've tried this "Boston staple", but I would not highly recommend it. read more

We heard all about Mike's Pastry and had dinner near here so we decided to try. We got four things: cream cannoli, blueberry muffin, Boston cream and chocolate chip cookie. We came when it was almost time to close so I didn't expect the blueberry muffin to be as good as it would be if it were fresh and in the morning. Cannoli- good flavor, but missing something that I can't put my finger on. Perhaps we should've gotten the ricotta one. Blueberry muffin- the crystal sugar on top was so good and still moist inside. Would be very good warmed up with a cup of coffee. Chocolate chip cookie- nothing grand about it, couldn't taste it was a chocolate chip cookie until you got a chip. Boston cream- amazing. My favorite thing from here. The chocolate is fresh, the cream was not overwhelming and complimented the chocolate perfectly. The only reason this is getting a 3 star is because of one staff member. There were 4-5 young women working and 4-5 lines. One woman kept calling from our line and then when we got to the front she changed her line she called from. They yell "who is next?" When clearly you have 10 people waiting so we are all next when you have 5 different lines filled with customers. The woman was rude and ignored us so we moved back and were greeted by a much nicer woman who helped us. I understand the business of customer service and trying to get everything in the box and people out, not here to be my friend, but it wouldn't hurt to have a better system or if you have multiple people working, stay in one line to take orders and not jump around because you come across rude. read more

I have never been a cannoli fan. Never ever order it at an Italian restaurant. But wow this was different. I wolfed it down! Got the hazelnut and chocolate chip. I'm officially a fan. If there was a way to take a box home to LA, I totally would. Long lines but it goes quick. Cash only. read more

2.8... no, really! Probably as honestly overrated as Buddy's cake shoppe in Hoboken, this Italian pastry shop has a very real cult following. We stepped in during high tea hour for a look-see and to try a few sweets, some espresso and latte.....no people. one or two minutes pass....suddenly there is literally a line out the door... the clerks are frantic, pressured, and rude... wasn't a fun experience. I am not one to judge Italian pastries. Overall, I find them dry, not as tasty, and really just all overloaded with either cream, mascarpone, or ricotta. I enjoy more the French style of delicateness, so......it's the best I can do. Ordered one phat lobster tail, boston cream puff (chocolate covered), pistachio macaroon, apple strudel, and espresso cannoli. Of them, my order of the whipped cream -filled pastry shell in form of lobster tail was the hands-down winner. would *not* reco the strudel.. I warned my Dad! They sell close to 20 different varieties of cannolis, all pre-filled. TIP: if eating there and not taking a box to go, then grab a seat, sit down, and pay afterward. We were rudely commanded to do this because of the stress from the pressure placed upon the cashiers and servers when the queue snakes out the door. read more

So this bakery is really good. Not gonna lie, I kinda went crazy and basically bought almost every flavor when I came here. I figured, when would be the next time I'd be in Boston anyway?! Luckily, I paid a visit before it would get crowded. (Came around 6 on a weekday?) Got the lobster tail (a humungo cream puff shaped like a lobsta tail!), and like 10 kinds of cannolis. Don't worry, I didn't eat 'em all. I loved the plain Ricotta cheese cannoli! It really tasted fresh! And the Mint choco was uniquely good.The florentine and choco chip were delicious too. I couldn't wait to walk into Mike's Pastry's. I talked about it for years. I heard about for years. This was the place! This was the bakery that is so famous in Boston? I'm confused. Has anyone ever been to the bakeries in Brooklyn or Queens? Those are bakeries!! I don't understand how this place became so famous. We tried so many desserts there and nothing really astonished me. I was so sad. The lobster tail was stale. It was big but it wasn't crunchy. The shell was stale. The cookies were okay. I just don't know. I left so sad that this place didn't meet my expectations. So this place is interesting. We walked over to this pastry shop and there was a line out of the door. So when we finally get to the counter the choices are plenty. I ordered " an original cannoli" and a cream puff. Okay. So I thought they would be normal size. No, they were gigantic - enough for two people to share. Therefore, we shared. They were delicious. We came at the right time! (6 pm on a Tuesday night). Everyone said to go to Mike's and we were not disappointed. The cannolis were not only gigantic, but the taste matched the size. As far as inside, I wouldn't plan on staying around to eat your cannoli. There are only a couple seats with most of the space in the bakery used for herding in the masses. read more

Assembly Row- got the tiramisu. It tasted like pure solid fat layered with bland-cake in brown water. Missing coffee flavor, missing lady fingers, and missing a flavorful marscapone. Don't believe the hype on this one. Two stars because the amaretto cannoli was good. They were a bit soggy. Didn't look or taste like they were freshly filled to order. read more

After an excellent meal at Neptune, we got dessert at Mike's Pastry. Everywhere we were walking that day, people were carrying their little Mike's Pastry boxes (Great advertising!). I am a bit lactose intolerant, so I didn't try a Canoli, but got the regular biscotti and chocolate dipped biscotti. Both were excellent and I'm glad I had a chance to try Mike's! We did a cannoli taste test between Mike's and the nearby Modern Pastry. Both had their strong points - I liked Modern's filling and Mike's chocolate cannoli crust. Definitely among the best cannolis we've had. Now that I'm in Chicago, I find that I crave them both. So conclusively, I'm just going to keep buying cannolis from both establishments whenever I'm in Boston. Huzzah! read more

Went to Mikes Pastry in North End Boston early on a week day morning. The cannolis were very good (even after eating them later in the day) and there was no wait at this time so that's the reason for the rating. But if I had waited in the ridiculously long line later in the day I am not so sure the cannolis would have been worth it. read more

Not sure what the fuss is all about. Mike's Pastry is famous in Boston located in the Northend. We stood in this ridiculuos line to get one freaking cannoli. I'm not really a dessert person and don't really like cakes, pastries or unorganized lines, but I had to try this place. I ordered the hazelnut cannoli and thought it was just okay. It was just too sweet and I didn't even finish it. Be prepared to bring cash, they don't accept plastics. read more

This is probably the best cannoli I've ever had.... given that the first time was from a campus buffet, and the second time was leftovers from a birthday party a few days later, and Mike's is the third time. And since Mike's seems to be as good as it could possibly get, I think I've come to the conclusion that I don't like cannoli. Although a local did claim that Modern's nearby was better, so I'm tempted to compare, but the thought of more creaminess is nauseating right now. Probably shouldn't have had the other half of my cannoli for breakfast this morning. =\ Useful info: $2.50 per cannoli, super long lines (there are less people waiting to the left of the entrance), waiter service available in the sparse seating area. read more

Why 3 stars? Because it's just too overwhelming. --- --- --- I went to both Mike's and Modern during my one and only trip to Boston. My review for Modern is more detailed, but this is the condensed version. The reviews are interchangeable, because there was no discernible difference between the two in my opinion. What can I say? You go here to get Fat Sweet things. Everyone in my hotel had a box from Mikes. Everyone in my office from MN said I needed to go to Mikes, so what did I do? I went to Mikes. My business partner and I got 3 Lobster tails. Boxed they must have weighed about 10 pounds. But 10 Pounds of sweet cream filled buttery crisp bliss! Yes, the line is worth it. Yummmm. Freshest, creamiest canoli I have had. I tried the classic because how else do u test a place out? The cream was amazing- whipped ricotta melts in your mouth when you bite into this scrumptious dessert. There are other flavors and treats but I stick with the classic. Having frequented Mike's Pastry twice now, I've come to realize there is some cannoli craze I was never aware of in Boston! Everywhere we walked in the city, we saw people carrying around the infamous white Mike's Pastry box so we just had to visit them ASAP! For the newbies, the line always looks insane outside of the shop and it looks chaotic, but it's actually 6-8 separate lines leading to a cashier. It took about 10-15 minutes to get to the front, but before you get to the front make sure to have reviewed the menu on the wall and also to have taken a look at all of the pastries they sell in the glass displays. We ordered 3 cannolis, which at first didn't seem like a lot, but when I took a good look at them I realized how big they were! Before coming here, make sure not to have a huge meal because these cannolis are huge and filling! They make for great snacks if you're hungry though. They are also pretty costly, so it's very easy to run up a huge tab if you can't resist buying everything that looks yummy here (which is me). Bottom Line: The chaos might discourage some, but don't let that fool you. It's definitely worth a trip and a try! Just like everyone else who comes to Boston for the first time, I heard that Mike's Pastry had THE best cannoli in the North End. After living in Boston for three months, I profoundly disagree. The Experience: This place is totally crowded, pretty much always. Tourists wait in one line in the middle of the restaurant while locals slip in on the sides. It's loud, chaotic, and pretty much unwelcoming. It's cash-only, like most cannoli places here. The Cannoli: To Mike's credit, it's a pretty good cannoli. The thing is huge, and the shell is solid enough that the first bite doesn't shatter the whole thing. I've had most of them, but I highly recommend the Espresso cannoli. Conclusion: Skip the line. Mike's Pastry is definitely a hidden gem tucked away in the North End of Boston... Their cannolis are ginormous & they have a wide selection of flavors. When I came by for a visit this past week, I bought the pistachio, hazelnut & oreo cannolis along w/ some rainbow layers. I was blown away by the hazelnut cannoli... It was packed w/ so much flavor & was extremely delicious! & I loved the rainbow layers... It's better than any I've tried in New York... The rainbow layers were so moist & not overbearingly sweet. It's been several years since I've been to Mike's, and when I decided to make a trip to Boston, this was the one place on my list that I had to visit. In fact, I went straight from the airport to Mike's to grab dessert before I went anywhere else. Expect a line out the door when you visit. They had 6 lines open when I got there, so even though the line was out the door, I was able to make it through pretty quickly. Cannoli's are their #1 seller, and they offer 20 or so different kinds. I went for the pistachio and amaretto Cannoli's as well as few pistachio macaroons and a mocha raspberry cake-like dessert. I wish I could say I brought something home with me, but that would be a lie. There is extremely limited seating inside, so we walked a block or so before sliding the string off the boxes and digging into them. The cannoli shells were nice and light and the cream inside was rich and delicious. A-mazing is the only way I can describe this place. Wait.. A-mazing and CASH ONLY would be a better way! It has been 13 years since I have been to Boston and I have to say it has been too long. The plane did not even land before I was reminded how much I love this city. After a super short reunion, we had to start heading up New England as after all, hubby was here for work. One place I knew I had to stop was Mike's as I still remember those cannolis from way back when. With different flavors offered each day in addition to the new traditional chocolate chip (I say new traditional as I remember the candied fruit ones as traditional from my East Coast days), there was chocolate mousse, pistachio, florentine, mint chocolate chip, ricotta, and maybe one other flavor. The mint chocolate chip was better than I expected, you can never go wrong with pistachio although I wish there were pistachio in the filling itself and not just the ends, but the florentine shell was a bit too sweet and hard for me so only had a bite. We found Mike's quite by accident, while sightseeing we saw a number of people walking around the North End area of Boston with white pastry boxes and became curious. I guess we arrived at the perfect time, because we were able to get in line inside the store. All the cannolis looked delicious and we were soon to learn, the tastes didn't disappoint either. While not a cannoli, I especially liked the Lobster tail. Although it was a chance encounter, I highly recommend Mike's to anyone visiting Boston and looking for good pastry. read more

I went in to get their cannolis and tried several flavors ($3-4.50 each)The portion size was too big for my liking but the flavor and crispiness of the shell was definitely there. I usually don't like cannolis but this place is pretty darn good! The texture was perfect! Very impressed. The hot chocolate was delicious! Tastes like real chocolate and not the fake water down hot chocolate Had a few other pastries and they were good too. The chocolate chip cookie looked huge and stale but it was chewy soft when breaking it. Not bad. CASH only and the service is very fast and rushed. A popular question I get asked is which I like better Mike's Pastry or Modern Pastry. If you say Mike's it'll deliver a mocking response from many native Bostonians. "oh how could you say that Mike's is for the tourists. Real locals know Modern is better!" First of all, I don't even think it's a great comparison. Modern has a sit down cafe. They also have a sports bar type place in the basement with burgers, sandwiches and drinks. Mike's has nothing of the sort it is strictly takeout and strictly pastries. To be honest, a better comparison would be Mike's and Bova's Bakery. They're more similar businesses. BUT if we are comparing Mike's and Modern's pastries only, yes I am a native Bostonian and yes I think Mike's is better. That's not to say Modern isn't great, I like it a lot, but I'm sorry Mike's clearly has the best cannoli's and most diverse flavors too. Their other pastries are great too. As I said, Modern is excellent as well but for my money Mike's pastries are better. When I go to a cookout or function filled with native Bostonians I take Mike's and people devour them. So stop with the fashionable bashing, Bostonians. The place is legit. read more

The bakery selection is out of this world - from breakfast pastries to delicately crafted desserts. The cinnamon and pecan rose was just like the center of a cinnamon bun, which was fantastic. It was big enough for two people to indulge without overdoing it. There weren't a lot of outlets, so not ideal for long term laptop use, but the food came quickly, it wasn't too loud even with a ton of people coming in and out. The prices were reasonable, and everything tasted amazing.

Brunch is big at Tatte, and rightfully so. I don't think it's the best place to try to work, but you can bring a computer in do some work or study, but it can also get loud when there's lots of conversations being held. I've had great interactions with the staff at this location and even when it's busy, I haven't had to wait too long to get my order. I've been loving the pumpkin spice tahini latte this fall. I ordered the nana's egg sandwich in a pita - it was essentially an omelette sandwich with boursin, olive tapenade, cucumber, tomato and schug which is a green hot sauce which I got on the side. It was quite interesting- not what I had expected and next time I would ask to omit the olive tapenade. I asked for ketchup to add in. It was a really good portion- probably 2 or 3 eggs. Very hearty and filling. The friend ordered the eggplant quinoa bowl which comes in this sauce and very cheesy. Comes with bread - really tasty! Bartender was friendly and service was great!

I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Received my meal in like 5-7 mins after ordering. Fish was super fresh and I really liked the different textures in the Hoseki Don. I also added in negitoro. They gave me a big clump of it! The second time I went back, I ordered take out so I could eat it at the airport for dinner. I ordered the Sake Maguro Hamachi don, added ikura and negitoro. Again, so impressed with the quality of the fish and the size of it. They didn't skimp out and really enjoyed the thickness of the sashimi despite it only being 3 pieces. It was a very satiating bowl. Cant wait to come back next time again!

The texture was perfect, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The almond flavor was just right, not overpowering but definitely present. It was like biting into a little piece of heaven. Next, we tried the lobster tail pastry. This pastry was a work of art. It was flaky and buttery, filled with a delicious cream that had just the right amount of sweetness. It was like biting into a cloud of deliciousness. We also tried the Boston cream pie, and let me tell you, it was divine. The cake was moist and fluffy, and the creamy filling was rich and velvety. We tried cannolis and lobster tails from Bova's, Mike's and Modern Pastry so this review is posted on all 3 sites. By far we agreed Bova's was the best. The cannoli's were good sized and the filling smooth and delicious. The salted caramel was our favorite cannoli, and it even held up when we saved part for the next day. The lobster tail pastry was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside with a light yet rich pastry filling. Don't miss the Florentine cannoli! While not traditional, it may be the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. The staff at Bova's was also very kind and helpful, and the fact they took credit cards meant I purchased more pastry from them than the cash only options. Mike's cannoli cream was grainy and the cannoli were too big. Since they don't save well if you can't finish it, it's trash. The staff here clearly want you to hurry and make your order so they can get back to socializing with each other. Won't ever be back here. Modern pastry was mediocre. My lobster tail pastry was over baked and the filling tasted more like buttercream than pastry cream. I will say the staff here are absolutely lovely, and I would give them a try for other pastries for this reason. read more

I know I'm going to get crucified for this one... You walk around Boston and see tons of Mike's Pastry boxes, so you know it's good. You go inside and it's an absolute zoo. Again, it must be good. The cannolis are HUGE, but we wanted to try a few different things, so we ordered a black & white cookie, a few biscotti, and a couple cookies. No cannoli for us considering we don't love them and could not justify investing in a giant one. Look, I love sweets. Even if sweets are mediocre, I want them. But every single thing I are from Mike's I did not enjoy... at all. The black and white cookie was more of a cake with cake frosting on it. The cookies were incredibly bland, and the biscotti tasted like straight molasses. I took a bite of each item with high expectations, and ended up throwing them out. When I read a review where someone is complaining about every single thing, I ignore it. So, feel free to ignore me here. But for me, this seems about as overrated as a place can possibly be. Next time, I'll take my chances in a hole-in-the-wall Italian bakery in the North End. Either my experience is an outlier, or the cannolis are just that amazing! read more

Great Pastries, But Service Could Be Better On my last day before heading to the train station, I stopped by the iconic Mike's Pastry to try a few items. As a cannoli connoisseur, I had to grab the pistachio cannoli. I also tried the hazelnut cannoli, a slice of Boston cream pie, and a lobster tail -- all of which were delicious! Everything was fresh and well worth the stop. Surprisingly, the shop wasn't as busy as I anticipated on a Sunday, and I was able to order within five minutes. However, my experience with the staff wasn't as pleasant. The woman who waited on me was a bit rude and seemed impatient, especially when I asked for a bag to carry my pastries. I had my suitcase and travel bag with me, so it was clear I needed a bag. She rolled her eyes and mentioned there would be a .25 charge for it, which I had no problem paying. I understand charging for bags, but the attitude left a negative impression. Overall, I would recommend the pastries for their quality, but the service left something to be desired. It's a shame because the pastries are great, but I'm not sure I'd return after this experience. read more

I don't know how much more I can add to this review that others haven't already said but here are my tips: 1) Be aggressive but polite. Try to get in the shortest line in front of any of the kind people working the place. There is not a designated standing area in Mike's but in the line area, some people aren't even in line. Simply, ask politely and you could find short lines. Any line works because you can order anything in that one spot. Don't be shy. I would take off half a star for this experience alone but the pastries justify my rating. 2) Because you're ordering from one spot, try to be prepared by either scanning every freezer or checking out their selection online. 3) Basically everything tastes good. 4) If you're passing by on the way through the freedom trail, grab your pastries to-go and find one of the many beautiful spots in Boston nearby; near the harbor, at bunker hill, or back home. 5) Get the cannoli. Trust me. It's like a glorious epicurean choco taco. I especially love the ricotta one and the chocolate chip one and the chocolate dipped and the....!! read more

I always see those people carrying the box that says Mikes Pastry like an accessory. So I had to make a trip when my friend was in town. Let me tell you, the parking sucks around that area so i suggest taking the public transportation. When we get there, no doubt there the place was packed. We ordered a bunch. My personal favorite is the chocolate peanut butter brownie - it's MASSIVE and very dense. it's topped with a ridiculously thick chocolate ganache and peanut butter frosting swirl. Other people love the cannolis and the lobster tail (not really lobster, it's a cream filled pastry shell the size of a small country). You can get things to go or you can grab one of the few tables to enjoy your desserts. (I think if you sit, a waitress comes by so you don't have to deal with the crowded counters, but honestly that is part of the experience here!) Tip: don't wait in line. there is no line, just get as close as you can to any of the counters and wait for one of the 30 people behind the counter to make eye contact. read more

Went by Mike's after dinner in the North End. This is definitely a place to see and be seen. It was crowded even on a night when the Red Sox were playing the Yankees! I had high expectations going into Mike's and was just confused when I walked in. The place was crowded and disorderly and it was impossible to see what was behind the counter because there were people swarming everywhere. Fortunately I read up on Yelp about Mike's before heading in and knew to order cannolis. I would highly recommend the vanilla over the chocolate cream and with coffee rather than on its own. Maybe I expected too much going in but I really wasn't too impressed. I want to head back there to try their cakes just because I've heard so many people rave about this place and want to give it a second chance. But the cannolis are not the things that will bring me back to Mike's...nor the disorder...nor the cash only policy. *UPDATE: Went back for the Boston Cream Cake...YUMMY! read more

They make the best pastries and cookies I have ever tried. I will one day soon be having my wedding cake made here. When I first tried them my fiance was ranting and raving about how great they were and surprised that I had never heard of them and of course never tried their food. That day he came home with a box of cookies and they didn't look great but I tried one and when I did it was like nothing I had ever eaten before, it was crispy sweet crunch on the outside and soft chewy on the inside. A perfect combination and not too sweet just right! I devoured the entire box and from then on we have been going back and loving it everytime. Every person who I have offered a treat to has had the same reaction and when I gave birth to my son we gave the nurses who cared for him in the hospital a box of their pastries as a thank you gift and they were so thankful, I swear they were almost fighting over them. Five stars for the food, it's all terrific. Three stars off for the store putting up with a man with a heavy whiskey smell making his way in and out of the store constantly, making racist comments, and trying to sort people into lines. He appears to be affiliated with the store by his actions and because we saw him go behind the counter once or twice, but he's decked out in red political attire, and is rude to customers, demanding, and got belligerent and screamed in a customer's face (as in faces touching) when he was questioned. A bit of digging online has shown that he's something of a staple there recently, so if you're hoping to grab a cannoli, avoid this place until they either fire him (if he is affiliated) or get him to leave, because it is INCREDIBLY uncomfortable. The fact that the store allows him in and out like that is absolutely unacceptable and none of us will be returning. read more

Ok, so the pastries at Mike's are hard to beat from a quality point of view, something can be said about price and the way they charge people. First, there are no signs on how much each pastry is, so when you buy something, you won't know how much they charge you. Have you noticed how they don't have calculators when you order a lot of pastries? Especially when their pastries varies in price from 1.75 to 6.25? How do they keep all those pastries straight in their heads when you're ordering 8 or 9 items? My hunch is that they just round up the price for every item and then charge you a lot more than what you were supposed to pay. And you can't complain either because the price of every item is a secret. Everytime I go in there, I feel like I am being cheated and the prices for individual items do go up every few months. But alas, the pastries are good. read more

I think this place is getting so many 4 and 5 star reviews for the tourist experience more than anything. It is cash only, so they should tell people that when they advertise it on all the tourist brochures everywhere. The lines are crazy. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was packed. The Italian in me feels the need to try the cannoli in every Italian neighborhood of the cities I visit. So of course, I had to try out this place. I ordered a chocolate chip cannolo. It was huge so I got pretty excited. But there really wasn't anything special about it. It was just an average cannolo. I've definitely had better cannoli and I've had worse. I would have liked to try the gelato but I didn't know it was cash only before visiting. I think you should definitely go here just to say you've been, but don't go thinking this is the best cannoli in the US. read more

I ordered a Peanut Butter Cannoli, and it was absolutely fantastic. It was around $3.50. However, it was very large. I did not think it was too sweet. The filling was thick and creamy. The chocolate-dipped shell was crispy and light. Yes, there are lines that can be long, but you just have to push your way to the front since the lines are not really lines- more like globs of people. You just need to go up to the counter once you have decided what you want to order. Don't wait until the people in front of you are done looking at all that Mike's offers. The workers quickly and efficiently box up your pastry and give you your change. The workers are nice, but they do not engage in chit-chat to keep the line moving. It was difficult to find an empty table, but you can easily sit on a bench around the corner or somewhere else. read more

Looking for probably the best cannoli you can get here in USA? Well look no further. Mike's party is sure to fill up your desire for mouth watering cannolis that will make you keep coming back for more, maybe lots more. And I have tried almost all flavors. My fav is Pistachio. The only thing that's stopping me from giving this place all 5 stars is the crazy queues one cant avoid and not enough sitting area. So it's not a place you can easily chill around with friends and enjoy your dessert but rather a take away. Secondly, though their cannolis may even be in the top ten around the country but where they do lack is some of the other desserts. The tiramisu wasn't at all up to the mark. So if you are in Boston do stop by this place and enjoy a cannoli or two. read more

I don't know. I don't get the hype. I heard great things about this place but when I went I waited in line for 20 minutes...fine, everyone else did. As I got closer to the end of the line, the choices were overwhelming. You try to see what all the flavors are and its hard to see the little signs when the stores flooded with people. I had no idea what to ordered so I asked the lady behind the counter for some recommendations and she said a bunch of them really fast. She seems irritated like she worked the whole day and it was really rushy. Understandable since you have a ridiculous line behind you. And i wouldn't even have complained if I felt the raved canollis were worth the wait and the ordeal. They were not. I much prefer the thinking cup down the street. read more

Whenever I fly into Boston to go home I always try to make a quick pit stop at Mikes Pastry in the North End, the best bakery in the area as far as I'm concerned. It's like a little slice of Heaven on Earth when you come here. I've been going to Mike's for at least 10 years and have never encountered a dessert I don't like. Also, calories don't count when you eat at Mike's. Because their products are amazing, be prepared to wait in line. The best times to go are early mornings before 9 am. The cannolis are creamy, fresh, and mouth watering delicious. The lobster tails are my favorite sweet right behind their famous cannolis. The rich, fluffy cream filling is encased by a flaky crunchy dough. It's the perfect balance of not too sweet and not too heavy. read more
