The focaccia bread was the star of the show for me. My guests enjoyed the shrimp scampi, but felt the portion was small and the salmon was delicious. I did taste a piece of the salmon and was jealous as I can confirm it was delicious...wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. Con's: The other half of our party did not enjoy the food. Unfortunately, I was in that bunch. It was quite surprising as the menu is not robust at all; so our thought was that the items that ARE on the menu must be a delicious specialty. I had the pork chops with pasta and spinach. The pork chop was tough and the pasta was bland. The sauce that accompanied the meal was tasty and moved the overall meal from a 'no', to an 'ok'. He even came by later to give me more information on the breaded vegan chicken I ordered with my pasta. The complimentary focaccia house bread was delicious even without any dips (which you'll rarely ever hear me say as I'm not a fan of eating just bread). My pasta was pretty good and I especially loved the breaded vegan chicken which was very flavorful. My friend got a similar pesto pasta dish with real unbreaded chicken and thought it was decent too. The ambiance is pleasant and is great for both lunch and dinner. It was a bit pricey with all my customized items but I think it deserves a visit every now and then to satisfy my craving of interesting combinations of sauce - fresh pasta - protein!

We received a couple of bad ones and they were promptly replaced with four new ones. I had the NY Strip and asked for "medium rare". The steak arrived and was perfectly cooked and had a very nice char on it. The steak was very flavorful and juicy. Service was impeccable. The restaurant was laid out nicely and there was plenty of space for our large group. Overall, I would say Giancarlo's will be a must visit, for when I'm in Buffalo.

Our children mentioned to the waitress that they were hungry and tired, and the first response we received was, "Do you have a reservation?" She explained that they couldn't seat us because they were expecting a large party. Instead of being seated at a regular table, we were directed to the bar area, where the bartender kindly took care of us despite the fact that our group included two minors. We stayed for over an hour, and during that time, the large party never arrived. Meanwhile, we watched other guests without reservations get seated at tables without any apparent issue. The experience left us feeling singled out and, ultimately, discriminated against. Whether that was the intention or not, it reflected a disappointing lack of empathy and inclusion--especially considering that so many families with children with disabilities were staying at the hotel for the conference. I'm giving Bella Ciao three stars because the food was decent, the portions were generous, and the bartender provided good service. Unfortunately, the way we were treated upon arrival overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable dining experience.

A 3% credit card surcharge was added without it ever being disclosed beforehand. I dine at higher-end restaurants frequently and have no problem paying for quality food, drinks, or service. However, I honestly can't recall ever being surprised by a credit card surcharge at the end of a meal. For me, it wasn't about the amount--it was about the lack of transparency. The surcharge was not disclosed before ordering. I hope Quenelle reconsiders this policy or, at a minimum, makes it clearly visible to guests before they order. Unfortunately, it left a bad taste and makes me unlikely to return. I'd simply encourage others to be aware of the surcharge before dining.
