My very first time to Miki Chan's Okazu Ya for a quick take-out dinner based on a recommendation by Roger from Pin Point Bowling Concepts. Thanks Roger! This restaurant is located within the Montebello Plaza. Tons of free parking so no worries there. Got here within an hour of closing time. Upon entry, my first impression was, it's a hole in the wall. Upon my last bite of the food, my last impression was, it's a hidden gem with a hole in the wall aura. It turns out this place is a fusion between Chinese and Hawaiian flavors. Cool! However, the name of the biz tells me otherwise. I was thinking Chinese and Japanese. I was greeted right away by Jenny. I believe she is the owner. She's a very friendly and nice lady. Thanks Jenny for your warm welcome and wonderful hospitality. Atmosphere was okay. A few tables and chairs for dine-in. Menu was quite massive. I wanted something simple so I got the special plate with 2 items that comes with white rice and/or chow mein noodles. First, I checked out the items under the heat lamps. There weren't too many options left since it was already late. The two items that still looked appetizing were the teriyaki chicken and stir fried zucchini + green beans so that's what I got. There was a fresh pan of broccoli and beef, but I don't eat beef. However, broccoli looked mighty fresh and green. I asked Jenny if she would throw in some broccoli in my plate alongside the chosen veggies. She said she couldn't do a full scoop because it would be considered a 3rd item, but a couple stalks of broccoli is fine. Thanks Jenny for the 2 tasty broccoli! As I was paying for my special plate, I looked up and saw the famous Miki Bowl to the right of the menu. Bowl is basically teriyaki chicken with white rice. I got it for my eldest daughter. She liked it! Here's my take on the food, everything and I mean everything was delicious. Chicken was perfectly marinated and so very tender. Good amount of it, too. YUM! Must get every time. All veggies were fresh, crunchy, and well seasoned. I was super surprised how tasty the chow mein noodles turned out. I couldn't stop eating them. It was that good. Rice is rice... nothing special. I highly recommend Miki Chan's for great service, amazing taste and flavors, exceptional value, and very generous portions (I think my plate was about 3 lbs of food). Weekday lunch, pretty standard American Chinese type of restaurant with some old school options. This place is not about the ambiance or decor. Similar to other takeout places you get rice or noodles and protein. The orange chicken was crispy and hot with a light orange flavor. Cha siu was dry and pretty flavor less. This place has been one of my favorites since I was in high school, and it still never disappoints. The portions are generous, the prices are great, and the food is pure comfort for me. This review is long overdue. This is what happens when you've been going to a place since way before the Web existed. It's like Hawaiian plate lunch-style comfort food to me, and I love it. Was craving takeout so decided to stop by here to check it out. It is a small shop, your typical Asian take out to-go place. Although exterior-wise may look a bit worn down, don't underestimate this place. Upon ordering, they STACK the food, to the point of overfill, which got my jaw dropping. Such a good deal on the prices as well for that quantity of portion! I could not finish it at all, and ate it for 2 whole meals. Though the quantity was excellent. Regarding the quality of the food, it was just okay. As seen in the picture, the teriyaki was burnt, so I have to take points off for that. I felt as though the noodles and rice were a bit unflavored. Orange chicken was pretty good though. The staff there are sooo welcoming and friendly though, such sweet people!! Went to find a take out place nearby and came across Miki Chan's on Yelp. It's located in the same plaza as the Best Buy and Albertsons. The parking is easy, as it shares the extra large lot with other businesses. Miki's is near the corner of the plaza. It's a small place with the name above the front. The inside feels very familiar to other Chinese takeout spots with the food displayed in front. The menu has picture displays of the items as well as in list format. The staff that helped me was named Jenny and her energy alone was FANTASTIC. She was so welcoming and engaging...if anything else go to see her if you're in the mood for decent Chinese take out and an energy boost as she's full of life! But onto the food, typical Chinese takeout with broccoli beef, orange chicken, etc. I got a 2-plate combo with all fried rice (you can do half rice and have chow mein) with broccoli beef and orange chicken. The portions are GENEROUS and you'll definitely be full or stuffed with how much she packed in the container. I would say you could even split it between two people or split it into multiple meals. So we saw a review done by "Grub with Greg", a guy we follow on Instagram. Usually, the foods he reviews look amazing - which was the case with Miki Chan's. Well, we were kinda disappointed from the moment we walked in. The place was kinda dingy looking, crates stacked at the entrance, and chairs lined up to keep you away from the glass case where the foods were. Some of the foods that were recommended by Grub with Greg didn't look very fresh - like they had been sitting for a little while. We ended up getting a two item meal with the Hawaiian noodles with pork, the BBQ pork and teriyaki chicken. I also got a side of orange chicken and a chicken eggroll -- our food came to 18 dollars and change. The noodles were just ok, the BBQ pork was disappointing since it really looked good, but it was so dry, the teriyaki chicken was tasty and not dry, and the orange chicken was just ok. The chicken egg roll was just ok - I didn't really notice chicken - it did had a strong ginger flavor though. We picked up our food around 7pm - possibly if you get there earlier, the food might be a little fresher. It seems that people like this place, so I guess we just caught them at an off time. One of those places that you're hesitant when you walk by because you see lots of cardboard boxes stacked in the back and front of store when you walk in. There isn't much decor and there isn't any seating. However, I'm extremely glad I gave this place a shot. There was definitely a late lunch rush (around when kids are out from school) when I stopped by. A+ on service, owner was so nice and sweet. I'm not sure what the complaints with all the recent posts are...you get what you pay for and in this case Miki Chan's Chinese/Asian fast food is pretty darn cheap. I had my hesitance coming here but decided to give it a try while we were recycling cans. For a 2-entree plate LOADED with chow mein and fried rice and a chicken teriyaki bowl, the total was $18 flat. That's incredibly cheap. The food was decent too, what you expect Chinese fast food to taste like. They also have slushies for $3.60, which is also very reasonable considering Jamba Juice is selling a smaller size for $7-8. The lady servicing the food was so adorable and friendly, and told us that they've been in business for 40-45 years now. Not sure how they're able to do that with such low prices, but I'm glad they're still around! No dine in, only take out. Miki Chan is located right off the freeway in a shopping plaza. The exterior could use a little TLC, but it's got character. The interior mimics the outside, and the woman running the place has got a lot of spunk! Super friendly and knows how to fill that styrofoam takeout box to the max. The food is like Panda Express. They've got familiar items you'd see there, and the same concept where you can mix and match entrees with various sides. The noodles here are better, the entrees are debatable, but to be fair I didn't try their specialty items. The orange chicken was sweeter than what I'm used to, but it was still yummy. The broccoli beef was a bit chewy and too tough. I had to throw away some of the meat cause it was impossible to eat. They had some ribs and Hawaiian inspired meats available, but I didn't get a chance to order any extra sides cause it is CASH ONLY! So don't forget to bring some extra earth monies. My husband and I shared a meal, because all the reviews said that the portions were legendary. We split the meal, and it looks like we ordered our own plates! The place looked promising as a Hawaiian Chinese/Japanese takeout place but this was so bad, even by takeout standards! I would have enjoyed a box of Panda Express 10x more than this. The bbq pork was tough and flavor wasn't good, the chow mein was lacking in flavor, and omg the salad? They tasted like pure salt. Like someone accidentally dumped a whole container of salt when they were making a batch of salad and decided to roll with it. Which is bad enough on its own but it even made the stuff around it that it touched salty. Eww. The only thing that was ok was the macaroni salad, at least they didn't mess that up. Like really, I don't think I've had food so bad in a long time. Idk if it used to be good and went downhill, if it's wildly hit or miss, or if like someone else said, they pay for reviews. The lady serving me was nice at least. There's no ambiance because it's takeout only and all the chairs are covered in plastic. Not the most attractive restaurant on the inside but since Covid has everything set up for take out, you can overlook the aesthetics. I have been going to Miki Chan's for years, always good. I went there today, had the steamed rice, chow mein, zucchini with string beans, barbecue pork. Went home dished out a plate, the rice was old, yellow and hard like it was sitting in the rice cooker for a very long time. The chow mein noodle were mushy. Lady is sweet, food is alright, portions are huge and they work really hard. With all that being said, I have had bad experiences but many good experiences. I suggest getting the chow mei with their spicy pork broth on it (special request). Everything else I pretty standard. But be mindful to not get something that doesn't look good, I have had mushy old vegetables from them and should have never asked for it because I knew it looked not fresh. But I would also like to point out that some people are just rude in these reviews. Two to three people run this establishment. There's no AC and they work so hard to sell decent food at a low price.
