THe donuts were so tasty! I am not a huge fan of traditional donuts, I like them from time to time. But, these were spectacular! They were sweet, but something about the type of sugar and sweetness, it didn't hurt my teeth- cuz they were so sweet like traditional donuts tend to do. ANd, I was a bit nervous about the gluten-free description as I tend to not prefer gluten free baked goods, but these were better than traditional donuts as well. I was actually competing with my hubby to eat all of the donuts (we cut them into quarters to have little "tastes" and to make sure we got to try every flavor and I usually don't go back as aggressively for more donuts, but with the Mochi Donuts I Did!! One word: delicious! I wanted to get my daughter a special treat for her college graduation and birthday, and these were perfect. For someone who can eat gluten, I can't say I'll be making Mochi donuts my go to for donuts. However, I'm glad I had the experience. The mochi donut is soft, chewy, and has a nice rice-coconut kind of flavor. In fact, I liked the mochi donut so much that I wish there was an option for plain donuts with no icing on top! That said, some of the flavors were really great. Matcha, Guava, and Black Sesame were my faves. They complemented the donut's flavor and weren't over the top. Some of the other flavors, however, were too sugary for me (birthday cake the worst offender). The Ube flavor too was not heavy on the Ube and mostly was just sweet. I'd like to see some fruit topped donuts, or something refreshing like that. Of course, since they make large batches and deliver them later, fruits might be difficult: it is very impressive that the donuts aren't technically fresh but TASTE so fresh. And you can't argue against donuts delivered right to your doorstep, especially during the pandemic. read more

Yay for fancy donuts on the Westside! I arranged contact-less delivery through their easy online ordering system. You have the option for soonest available (which, at the time, was weeks out bc of their popularity) or to select another future date, as long a it's a Sunday, Weds, or Fri. For a half-dozen donuts plus delivery it's $20. The ordering process also lets you specify delivery instructions and allergy info/etc. We received a box of six delicious donuts. You don't get any choice about the flavors but their website shows what they've cooked up in the past and their instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/mikikomochidonuts/) details the donuts du jour. Gluten free and dairy free donuts!?! Count me in! Ive been wanting to try mochi donuts for quite sometime. When mikiko was featured on yelp pdx, I jumped at the chance. $15 for half a dozen and $5 delivery fee, great price. They even were able to accommodate an allergy of mine, beets. I know, weird thing to be allergic to, but it happens. I ate four of the six donuts within the first day. My absolute favorite flavor was the thai tea, and the yuzu flavored on. Fun fun fun! I think these are so cute and such a good idea/concept. I'd describe it as Mochi shaped like a donut but with a sort of "brownie edges" texture around the outside. I really enjoyed these donuts! They're just the right size (slightly larger than the palm of my hand) and by far one of the most unique donuts I have had based on texture alone. The flour they used is similar to sticky rice flour, and they are baked instead of fried so you can enjoy more without feeling as guilty. When I went on 10/31, my favorites (though they were all great) included the black sesame donut, which was reminiscent of sesame balls at dim sum, cranberry for its unique but not too tart flavor, pandan because that's a challenging Asian flavor to get in a donut, and then the apple cinnamon because it was appropriately fall-like. I hope they get the chance to open a permanent store, because I can't wait to go again! read more

Wanted to try all the Mochi donuts I could find! Found this spot and picked them up at the south waterfront in Portland at the farmers market on Thursday at 2 pm. I was surprised to see them smaller than expected. So far I have only tried the funfetti and pandan flavors. They were both pretty sweet due to the frosting. I realized these donuts are baked and not fried like other Mochi donut spots. Before buying the donuts I was trying to picture to texture of the donuts since most Mochi donuts are in balls. The donut was softer and chewier than expected which was a good thing. Overall it was a good experience, I prefer the circular mochi donuts but would probably pick them up in the future. read more

I'm a little surprised on the raving reviews so far. I ordered the sampler half dozen box ($15) online (+$0.50 processing fee) to pick up at the farmers market on South Waterfront in Portland. The July flavors were taro w/ condensed coconut milk, lapsang w/ "mochi-mallows", strawberry sencha, watermelon yuzu, peach bellini, and midori sour. The texture and consistency of the mochi was really great - soft, chewy and light, and I thought these were the highlights of the donuts. For the flavors, my top 3 of the sampler were the lapsang, watermelon yuzu and peach bellini. The smokey flavor of the lapsang paired well with the 'mochi-mallows'. The watermelon and peach flavors were a refreshing fruity taste to the sweet mochi donut. However, I felt the flavors overall were a bit lacking in proportion to the mochi "dough" - they were just too subtle to enjoy and appreciate the specialty flavors. I think a little bit more of the flavored crusts on top of the donut would make this closer to 4-5 stars. My overall impression: I'd probably want to try other new pop up mochi donut businesses in the area before trying Mikiko again, however the other flavors (pandan or ube, which are their August flavors) do sound enticing and I may succumb to my temptations. I'd be more likely to try again if I could buy individual donuts, which seems like it'd be possible starting in September at Bar West brunch menu for $3 each. I was on a huge mochi donut hype because I had some in SF and became obsessed. When I found a place in Portland that offered it, there was no hesitation that I had to try it. Long overdue review. Mochi donuts sell out like nobody's business at the local japanese market back in California. People would line up and wait hours for these little guys. What makes these things different than a normal donut?? Rice Flour. I've never been able to get my hands on these mystical things....until NOW because these guys deliver! Fill out their delivery form, submit and they will send you an invoice. Pay invoice and just wait for your delivery. Easy peasy! I had almost forgotten I had ordered them as it was a week or two out. I was out pulling weeds and this car pulls out and guy steps out. I thought it must have been a friend of the neighbors but then he's walking towards me....with the box. Really cool place! It's only a table and a sign right outside of a side door, but the donuts are really good! Albeit a little pricey, $15 for a half dozen of these donuts is worth the cash. Now you do have to understand that these aren't your average donuts. These are a unique kind of donut made out of mochi, meaning they are much smaller and denser than a normal donut. I'm very much underwhelmed by these donuts, from all the reviews here, I expected a lot more. I ordered the half dozen variety one for $25- $30 including tip. The donuts were small, not puffy like a Mochi ice cream ball or a regular donut either. It's the opposite of fluffy or puffy. It's dense. It's not bad, it's just something I would not expect from a donut at all. It's also overly sweet. If they had a store front, I definitely would have spent way less because out of the 6, I really just finished total of one donut, a very small bite from each. I don't know what goes in here to make the $25 worth 6 (about 1.5 inches circumference) of dense donuts, (maybe it's really hard to make?) but I'm not going to knock off points just because I didn't enjoy the taste or texture, I'm sure other people appreciate the uniqueness, it's just not for me. The delivery was on time, a little confusing on the ordering because for some reason, their website directed me to an app worksheet that it said I needed to download to order? I'm guessing that's what they are using to keep office? I don't know, again that bit was confusing, I'm only giving it 4 stars because for $25 for 6 pieces of tiny flat donuts, I was expecting Blue Star quality (almost like a soft fluffy brioche cake but donut style) and that it was too sweet for me, (and I'm an Asian with a sweet tooth so I know how Ube and other Asian sweet treats tastes like) I think this is a local shop so I definitely wish them well. Gluten Free Donuts! Portland has a a few GF donut options. Mikiko is one of them. I'm assuming they're made with Mochi dough which is why they're so soft, chewy & moist! All flavors are delish! Matcha was my fave. Definitely worth a try. And super satisfying for all you GF donut lovers. read more

They all just tasted very sweet and started tasting the same afterwards. I've had mochi donuts before from Third Culture in Oakland, CA and in Japan and these did not compare. Delicious butter mochi donuts with a great texture. Beware that they're butter mochi and not "pon de ring" style, which has a completely different type of chew to the texture. Not giving them five stars because while the flavors are good, some of them are not strong enough. I grew up with all things pandan and am a huge fan of it, but was disappointed in how light Mikiko's pandan flavor is. Other flavors like black sesame, POG, and Thai tea come through well and are delicious. read more
