(English) WOW! That is the first thing I need to say, we entered this place with no expectations and came out amazed. The food, the service everything was amazing! We ordered too much but ended up having everything because everything was fresh and delicious. The Baked Salmon as an appetizer is a must. For the sushi rolls, we asked the waitress to recommend some and she did well we got the Mango Mania, I am not a huge fan of fruit in sushi but this is totally worth trying, also the Tiger Roll with different types of cuts of fishes delicious. To continue our meal we had the Tempura Udon, the vegetables and crab were beautifully covered and the noodles were thick and al dente, the broth was also delicious a great dish if you don't want sushi rolls. I would definitely recommend this place and every time I'm around New Orleans I'll for sure visit this sushi spot. (Español) Wow! Charged me 1.50$ for switching avocado in a roll for cream cheese. I know avocado costs more than cream cheese so why the charge? They're saving money by the switch. The excuse was labor costs...im sorry, does Cream cheese take more time than avocado when rolling sushi? Woman on the phone was extremely rude. They're clearly nickel and dime-Ing their guests trying to get as much as possible for a mediocre product. Never again. Also if you order via Uber eats, you can't contest any upcharge they give post order. So there's no recourse if you get milked for a few extra bucks my them. My first time eating inside here and it was wonderful. I've always loved that this restaurant has a speedy drive-thru line where you can call in an order and just pickup at the window, but I wanted to eat inside this time with a few friends. They have a VERY VERY large menu. Pretty much anything you can think of sushi and Japanese cuisine, they offer. And the amazing thing is, all the food comes out fast and it all tastes fresh and delicious, which is typically not the case for places with such large, varied menus. Now I don't eat sushi, but all my friends that do consistently rate this place in their top 3 in Nola. I get the chicken teriyaki and spring rolls and I never have any left. Like I clean the entire plate. We were the only ones eating inside at the time but we were having an early dinner so that was probably why. Our waitress was very attentive and kept our drinks filled and the food coming. It's a quiet, sort of dimly lit atmosphere. I think it would be great for a date night. This is a delivery based review as I have never actually dined in. We live less than a half mile from Mikimoto and they're one of the only sushi places that delivers. It's often one of those nights when both of us are feeling uncreative and choose to just order takeout. But it's sushi-takeout so there's not much better than that! Delivery takes 45 minutes so if it's in your headspace that you want sashimi and a Carrollton Roll, plan accordingly. Their menu is yuuuuuuuuuuge! In fact, this last order I was convinced I ordered a roll I've never had before and unbelievably, of the 50 some rolls they have, I ordered the same, exact, one. It was delicious of course, but I can't believe I ordered the same thing. "Dear Mikimoto, Please create a sushi roll checklist so regular customers can explore the menu in it's entirety instead of repeatedly ordering the same roll out of habit. Love and kisses, Emily." I can't believe I'm just now getting around to posting a review about Miki. I'm here almost once a week or every other week (at least). Maybe I'm crazy but I drive from the westbank to pick up take out. My order is always fresh, delicious and consistent every. single. time. I normally order the jalapeño poppers, mango roll (simple, yet so good), salmon nigiri, noodle salad, and a special roll (I switch up every time). They open late hours and the drive thru is SO CONVENIENT and quick. Everyone that works there is friendly!! read more

In the past, I've usually eaten at the restaurant. I've had pretty decent experiences. They have a small parking lot, and they have good hours. After getting to town late the other week, I was in the mood for sushi and really didn't want to have to venture out to pick it up. Luckily Mikimoto delivered. They said they'd arrive within 45 minutes, and they arrived within 30 which was nice. Note: I ordered around 9pm, so they were probably getting ready to close up and finish their last deliveries. I ordered two rolls. The meal came with a soup, salad, and rice. I informed the person taking my order that I didn't want rice or a salad. I also told them that I can't have gluten and asked if they had gluten free soy sauce. I was told yes, and they'd make sure that was with the meal. Food arrives ahead of schedule, which was great, but they didn't follow any of the instructions! There was rice and salad. While that doesn't seem like a big deal, I find it to be extremely wasteful, and I do not like to be wasteful! They also had tons of packets of regular soy sauce included and a tub of unmarked sauce. Could have been gluten free, could have been something that would have resulted in a very unpleasant night for me... I called the restaurant and asked about the sauce, to which I was rudely told it was there, and then the woman hung up on me. Needless to say, I did not use the unmarked sauce as I didn't trust what it was given the fact that the restaurant wasn't able to follow the other requests. read more

Service was lacking today. But, kinda understandable because it was pretty packed on a Friday night. Finished all our food... then our yellow dragon roll comes out because our server didn't see it on the sheet. Uh, y'all don't double check? Lol. Wth. But whatever. They also have unfiltered sake! They are a solid 4 star joint on their best days. Beef tataki - way too raw. Hardly seared. Unedible. Did y'all take it out straight from the freezer and serve it? Sunomono w/ avocado - yaaaaasss. This was so good. It's fresh salmon, tuna, and yellowtail with cucumbers in ponzu sauce. I added avocado and it makes it that much better! Hamachi kama - baked yellowtail neck. It is always good. Probably one of the better places to get this. Served with lemon and ponzu. Baked scallop - it's "spicy" baked scallop with mixed mushrooms cooked on a shell with mayo. Pretty fattening, but it's okay to indulge every now and then. :P Tropical roll - coconut shrimp with some other stuff with pink sauce on top. Tiger roll - tuna and salmon with more salmon and avocado on top. Probably our least favorite roll. Yellow dragon roll - This roll was so good! But I think they rushed it bc the lemon slices were cut a little too thick. It's cucumber snow crab and tobiko wrapped in rice and seaweed, with salmon and lemon slices on top. Salmon sashimi - fresh and simple. Mikimoto roll - super plain, not flavorful. Do not get. Came with pink sauce. That didn't help it at all. Just don't get it. Sounds appetizing, but trust me. Whew! I can honestly say it's been a while considering the fact that I've taken a month off from Yelp to tend to school and such! I'm happy to be back, so let's start out with the exterior of the restaurant. The parking lot is pretty small so you'll have to go around to the back, that way it's much easier to park. The ambience of the restaurant is pretty typical, dimmed lights with the Japanese theme. The inside of the restaurant on the other hand, was actually sort of big enough in terms of room to bring a good amount of people on any special occasion! With that being said, let's start with the review of what I got: Crunchy Roll Rating: 4/5 What ya' know about that crunchy stuff? Nothing? Yeah, me neither! I actually found out it's made from the batter scraped off tempura whenever it's made! A more appropriate name would be crunchy tempura crumb. One of the greatest things about the crunchy roll is the texture, and if you're like me, I NEED texture in my food as well as an excellent amount of flavor. However, one of the things that seemed to be off about the roll was the heavy amount of crunchy tempura crumb, call me picky, I know. For some reason it was overpowering, but still satisfying in terms of the portions I was getting. If you do order the crunchy roll, ensure that you get some eel sauce or sriracha on the side to really add some kick to your tastebuds! Eel Roll: Rating: 5/5 This was the one that reminded me of my absolute LOVE for sushi, the texture was amazing alongside the eel sauce drizzled on top. Typically I'm not too big on avocado, but the creaminess was definitely brightened by utilizing it within the roll itself. The eel was soft, and the sea weed it was wrapped in made it sort of chewy, which was definitely the highlight of the dish. Additionally, the fact that the roll had so much sheer flavor in comparison to the crunchy roll without condiments encouraged me to give it a solid five rating. Definitely give it a try if you're looking to stay on a budget but get the most bang for your buck! So, the total for these two magnificent rolls came out to around $10. Since it was my first time trying the place, I thought I would've come out of the restaurant searching for more food to fill my tastebuds. On the contrary, after eating 12 or so rolls, I was filled. Can you believe it?! Me neither. Everything was getting good, like a climax in a movie, or the bass when it drops, I had to do it...that's right...DESSERT! Banana Tempura Rating: 4.5/5 So the cost was around $5.50 but, the dessert was definitely worth it! It comes with two scoops of ice cream of your choice, traditional flavors (vanilla, strawberry, etc.) and than the more unique ones like green tea, red bean, and mango were also offered. After much decision, I went with the mango and green tea! Dessert didn't take too long to come out, just about five minutes, and the plate was lined with four fried bananas drizzled with honey! The best way to go along eating this is to chop a small portion of the fried banana off, and grab a bit of the ice cream on your spoon, and then, INDULGE! I honestly felt like I had gained a hundred pounds afterwards, but hey, that hundred pounds was worth it. Bring some friends with you whenever you go! I've never stepped foot in Mikimoto but they've come knocking to feed me many many times! First off, delivery. Please, and thank you! Always appreciate it when I can order something other than 10,000 calories of delicious carbs in circular, pepperoni form and pay with a card over the phone. They are pretty much the latest, healthy delivery option in my area (30 minutes before they close which is 10:30 during the week and 11 on the weekends). The online menu is suuuuper easy to scroll through. They usually say about 30/45 minutes for delivery but always tend to make it way faster than that (I am not tooo far down the street but am usually in my 'jamas by the time this craving kicks in). They have a handful of specialty rolls that I have tried that I like including the Dante Roll*, always a go-to for me. I've ordered the Red Dragon* a few times, but it's been hit or miss with the dryness of the mound of tempura batter on top. I recently really enjoyed the Mango Mania. I love the trifecta of fresh salmon, avocado, and mango. Mmmm. I don't think it really needs the tropical coconut sauce since it's already a naturally sweet roll. I usually get the cucumber salad and miso soup as well. Nothing crazy special about them, but a nice way to round out the meal. I GREATLY appreciate this sushi spot's delivery service, and while I wish it was within my budget to order once a week and replace my pizza addiction, this is usually a treat yo'self take out for me. I just had a delivery from here. I have never actually been inside the restaurant. I am not impressed. I am befuddled by the five star reviews. I called two minutes after they opened so I was sure that I would get only the freshest ingredients. The delivery was prompt and the order was correct, but the sushi rolls were just...plain. I used the California roll as the measure of quality since that is very simple and standard at all sushi places. They were hastily assembled and it showed. They were loose and falling apart. The cucumbers were just haphazardly arranged, some listing this way and others another direction. I know California rolls are basically a throw away, but if they didn't take care to even assemble that neatly, then how much care could they possibly take with the rest of the rolls? Starters: Clear soup - It lacked flavor but adding soy sauce helped a lot! Noodle salad - I love, love, love this complimentary salad. It included noodles, sesame seeds, cucumbers, and some kind of mayo sauce. It was very light & easy to eat. Tuna Tataki Salad - Just Perfect! Seared Tuna topped with Siracha with a side of seaweed and cucumbers. Anytime I eat something raw at a sushi restaurant, Sriracha is a must! Vegetable Tempura - Comparable to any sushi restaurant. Sushi Rolls: Jalapeno Madness - This was so good that I didn't care that my mouth was on FIRE! I wasn't a big fan of the wasabi dipping sauce but the roll was soooo DELICIOUS! My last update I had to remove a star because my rolls were sub par, generally sloppy in composition, and the normal amount of "filler ingredient" (tuna, shrimp, etc.) was off based on several experiences with the same rolls here. This time I ordered out again instead of dining in because 1) I already know Mikimoto is strong when you dine in, 2) I like ordering out, and 3) I wanted to give them a second shot because I believe they are one of the strongest sushi options in New Orleans. Tonight I ordered the Geaux Saints Maki Roll (specialty roll with crawfish, tuna, snow crab, and avocado topped with salmon, escolar, and black flying fish roe). I also ordered two spicy tuna rolls for tomorrow because the specialty rolls are really filling and I wanted to have something leftover for lunch tomorrow. All three rolls were perfect in composition and looked incredible. The specialty roll was exactly like when I first tasted it at the restaurant and the presentation was on point. The spicy tuna rolls looked great and appear to have been made with care and placed in the box with care. This was not the case last time! Good job Mikimoto!! You have redeemed yourself in my eyes and are once again among my favorite places to get sushi in NOLA. read more

Shame on you, whoever told me that Mikimoto was terrible and that I should never go. I forget who you are, but you kept me from trying a more-than-decent sushi place for over a year. THE GOOD Crawfish Roll: We always get one whenever we go eat sushi. Mikimoto's roll was super spicy, really too spicy for me, but it was clear from eating it that it was a quality roll; they put a healthy portion of decent, fresh crawfish inside, plus they added smelt roe which in my opinion makes every sushi roll better! Tiger's Eye Roll: Smelt roe, avocado, smoked salmon wrapped with baked squid, topped with eel sauce. Not really a roll in the traditional sense, but very tasty. Wrapped tightly so the squid didn't unravel and make the piece fall apart like you might find at other places *cough* Hana *cough*. Nice warm "sushi" roll that really satisfies your belly. Blue Crab Roll: On their laminated specials menu. The one redeeming item from Sushi Brothers makes an appearance at Mikimoto, and they pretty much do it here exactly how I wish it woulda been done at Sushi Brothers. Blue crab mixed with snow crab and avocado, wrapped in seaweed and rice. Simple. I was a little worried based on first glance that the snow crab would overpower the blue crab flavor, but that turned out to be much ado about nada. The blue crab really stood out and was complimented well by the other ingredients. Good stuff. Miso Soup & Ginger Salad: The soup was the perfect balance of water and miso paste: not too salty but not too flavorless. The salad had the perfect amount of dressing and it didn't look like it was thrown together haphazardly, which is pretty much all I ask for in a salad that comes with a dinner order. THE BAD Seafood Salad: Oy vey. Just as I hate it when restaurants soak lettuce-based salads in too much dressing, I abhor it when sushi places soak their sushi salads in too much ponzu. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened with this one. When we mercifully reached the last piece of food in the salad, there was literally a quarter of a bowl full of ponzu sauce left at the bottom. Moderation, people! I want to be able to taste the fish at least a little bit. PURGATORY Chirashi Dinner: A part of this is my fault in thinking that a chirashi dinner priced at $12.95 would have anywhere near the amount of fish as other places that price theirs closer to $20. What came out was about 10 pieces of fish sashimi, one shrimp, one crabstick cut in half, a couple pieces of tamago and some smelt roe. Not the most generous of portions since I could order 10 pieces of sashimi a la carte for less money, but at least everything tasted decent enough. And with everything else we ordered, it turned out to be a the right amount at a good price. Noodle Salad "Amuse Bouche": Bland in comparison to other noodle salads, but it's free so HUZZAH. OVERALL I have yet to try their kitchen items yet, but in terms of sushi, it's both generally tasty and affordable. The environment is cozy, and they have a decent amount of parking around the building, although it's a tad tight. Definitely recommend you to try it. read more

I went here for a quick lunch yesterday, and am so sad to write this bad review! The wait staff was helpful and friendly, but the food was awful. I started with a sake margarita, which tasted nothing like a margarita and everything like watered down sake on ice. I then ordered the miso and the Sex and the City roll, and they brought out a free "salad" that consisted of rice noodles, a slice of cucumber, two carrots and 80% mayonnaise. Hey- I'm a mayo fan... But this was basically mayo soup. Onto the roll. When they brought it out I was pretty surprised - it looked like they used an entire pack of faux crab meat, mixed it with a jar of mayo, and plopped it on top of a really badly rolled sushi roll. None of the pieces were consistent sizes and were pretty hard to eat as they were soggy from the mayo drenched crab. All in all, the best part was the powdered miso soup. :( read more

Although I used to live a couple of blocks away from Mikimoto, I always found myself at Hana Sushi instead. My most recent visit pretty much illustrates as to why. Given that Mikimoto is rather tiny, we waited a little bit to be seated, but don't you worry, I subjected everyone to my queue of hilarious cat YouTube videos to pass the time. Once we took our seats, ordering was ever so slightly delayed as we hadn't been furnished with a sushi check-off slip (is there a technical name for those things) and well, it was in fact rather busy up in this here sushi joint. At least the udon noodles and appetizers arrived shortly thereafter. Which then marked the beginning of the eternal wait for our sushi rolls. Whoopee! At least I had my healthy heap of seaweed salad to munch on - quite salty but delicious. My dining comrades kept picking at salad, crab rolls, and udon as they were darn flipping starving. I guess the kitchen was ridiculously backed up? My vegetable roll with brown rice arrived lightly studded with bright orange roe. Womp womp! I actually just wanted to just send it back and move forward with my sad vegan life, but one of my friends flagged down another server (ours was M.I.A. for most of the night, yet we still left her a handsome tip, we are too nice sometimes!) to explain my issue and soon received a brand spanking roe-free roll (probably filled with human spit but hey y'all, that's vegan!). It was all right, Hana's vegetable rolls are bigger. Size matters here, and anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar. One of the more notable features of Mikimoto is the pick up window, so you don't have to stuff yourself into the tiny establishment to pick up your to-go orders. Also, the security guard chillaxin' in a chair outside is a thoughtful New Orleans touch. I can vouch for the Rock 'n' Roll, gyoza, and shrimp tempura which are all great. I would also HIGHLY recommend the Baked Salmon appetizer. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the snowcrab inside was creamy, and there was a good amount of sauce on it without being overwhelming to the other flavors. Holy Mother of Ponzo Sauce Batman! I luuuuuuuuuurve sushi...so when I go some place for sushi for the first time, I come (unfairly) halfway expecting just a little disappointment. Mikimoto brought the A-game. The waiter was friendly, knowledgable, and very helpful in breaking down some of the menu items and helping us make choices. Sushi rolls were fantastic. HOWEVER, this restaurant has been the only welcoming place I have been, and their food is also really good. Their seafood udon is very basic but taste pretty good as for the eel roll is was also decent. Parking here is a pain. For such a small place, it gets awfully crowded though, so I suppose that speaks to the quality of the food. In fact, my meal was enjoyable, although the service was very matter-of-fact (as opposed to conversational and friendly). But again, the place was very crowded that day so my server may have just been overwhelmed. Interestingly, unlike most sushi places I've been to, they do a lot here with coconut shrimp. I actually can't think of a sushi place I've ever been to that incorporated coconut shrimp into their rolls. Their pink sauce is quite good, as was the overall meal. I love soup and they offer about four different noodle choices. Sometimes I just get Udon Noodle Soup -as I did this time. Husband got the Tropical Roll and the Geaux Saints Maki. He liked them both, but they didn't make the favorites list. They were on the specialty menu. I ordered hot green tea and thought it to be overpriced at 2 dollars -- would have been better if there were free refills. They could benefit from more tea selection. They did have some pretty good dessert selections, but I was too full to think about it. The place itself is small and a little bit dark but not creepy dark. They give you a hot washcloth when you are seated and that makes me happy. The food comes quickly and it is presented well. The server was polite and not overbearing. This is an upper 3.5-stars review. Ten+ years ago I would come here once a week. It was my first favorite sushi place. The food was consistent and fresh, and the service was great. Today I tried it again for the first time in maybe 6-7 years. The service was as good as I remember it and the noodle salad was just as awesome. I think though, that I was a little bit sad that *everything* was the same as it used to be right down to the same green mints in a basket as you walk out the door. I didn't see any changes or additions to the menu I used to have memorized with my undergrad buddies and the decor was exactly the same. New Orleanians love tradition to be sure, but I wonder if some of the stagnancy means that the owners/management have lost their zest for running the place? I could be entirely wrong- maybe they're just doing what works for them. PRICING: The prices are still good (great even) in comparison to the sushi places I frequent in/near the Quarter. FOOD: We had the salmon teriyaki lunch with pan fried rice and a house salad, crunchy rolls, veg tempura, noodle salad, and a Boston hand roll. The salmon was great and I usually hate salmon. We enjoyed all of it (though the tempura was a bit overdone) very much but none of it made me want to come back to MidCity for another go at it any time soon. Overall it was GOOD, but not great. I am not a local so had no idea the good spots in Nola for sushi. This place had the most 4's in the city so I decided to go. To start it was 65 degrees and I froze the entire time. Secondly, the calamari I ordered was stringy, chewy, and veiny (1/10). For an entree , I ordered beef teriyaki and the rice was supposed to fried rice but it was sushi rice with soy sauce. The beef was solid. The two rolls were both specialty rolls. I'd say the most mid rolls I've had the date. The Joe burrow roll. Was stuffed with more melon then meat. The red dragon roll was smushed on top and had more toppings then actual roll. I hate to do this but I had to save the next person. read more

Our go-to for years! Really fast and consistent delivery service that holds up in travel. Can't be said for many other sushi places that skimp their delivery customers and it shows up unkempt. I love their drive thru service. The food is always well packed and looks great. We got several items and each were good.

This is not always the best sushi but this place generally gives you a great deal of quantity and they have some great lunch and dinner specials. This is never my first choice when in the mood for sushi but I occasionally stop in when I'm in the area. It sort of has a fast food ambiance about the place as they have a drive up menu. I have often been amazed at the quantity of food I've gotten at times here so this place can be a good value. read more
