This place was ok, very old and rundown, desperately need new or a cleaned carpet. Way too warm inside, and after we ordered my grandson noticed a line of ants crawling along the border on the wall. Went in for breakfast. The place is an older type diner. I like the layout. The service is nice. The social distancing is enforced. I like that. They make sure your over 6 feet away from others. Found this place on one of our mini-vacations. We were looking of a good breakfast spot and came across Mikki's Restaurant. I ordered the steak and eggs with crispy hash browns and two pancakes with a coffee. My wife had the oatmeal and orange juice and my son had the French toast with an orange juice. The food was great with lots of flavor, my steak was cooked just the way I requested it (medium). The coffee was freshly made, the pancakes were very fluffy. The French toast was very good, my son loved them. The oatmeal was also very good according to my wife. They also raved about the freshly squeezed orange juice the had received. The prices were reasonable, the restaurant was nice and clean, it had that homely feel, you felt welcomed there, the staff was great. Overall the experience at Mikki's was great. This is a great little family owned cafe in Escondido. Located in small outdoor strip mall where most of the businesses have closed. A Ross was getting ready to open. before COVID hit. The service is excellent and friendly. Due to COVID, they are open for outside dinning only. The pattio is where seating is available is very nice. This small cafe is hidden in an old strip mall with very few stores. It's hard to find, but look for The Big Lots. We went here later in the day when most breakfasts places were already closed. Husband had a good breakfast and I had a yummy patty melt. The fries were crispy and a huge portion. We do not live close, but if in the area would go again. Tried this restaurant a couple times over the years, each time being disappointed. After several years since my last visit, I decided to give it another go. What prompted me was the person holding the advertisement sign on the street corner. When I entered the restaurant (on a weekday) it was basically empty. Yeah, red flag. The breakfast special came with eggs, french toast, and hash browns. The sunny side eggs were literally room temperature. The hash browns, although plentiful, were mushy and flavorless. As for the french toast, it tasted like it came out of a frozen box; and as hungry as I was, I could not finish it. Had a weird flavor too. Worse, it was topped with that poison called margarine as opposed to REAL food... butter! On the positive side, service was average (which says a lot nowadays), and the coffee was pretty good. We can understand the strawberries could have an artificial taste but it tasted old! The waffle was burnt and my husbands hard poached eggs were runny. My father in law got their special which was pork chop. There was zero flavor! His homestyle potatoes tasted bland and the onion and bell pepper was barely sauteed. And when I say barely it even look like they did not even attempted to cook it! The prices and the food both suck! Who really would pay almost $4 for a cup of orange juice? Well us obviously! It was like paying for a kids meal! We will NOT return! I dont even want to give a one star. But, I have to and that goes to the server that didnt have any part of making our food. read more

After months and months of seeing the scarce but great reviews this place kept getting here on Yelp, I decided to give this hidden breakfast joint in the hidden valley (aka Escondido) a shot...the verdict? I'll let the score I gave it speak for itself...it got the full hand, and off to depict my munching I experience I go. I'll make it as brief and concise as possible, here we go.... The food was great, the amounts were copious, our waitress was hospitable, informative, and also attentive. The fact that she was bilingual was a plus, since I took my mom out to breakfast & she only speaks Spanish (my pet peeve when taking her out to eat is having to translate). The coffee was strong, just how it should be. I ordered the denver omelette which came with your choice of hash browns, and two pancakes. Mom had the fruit pancake combo (two eggs, two bacon/sausage, hash browns, and two pancakes with strawberries & cream on top). I liked the fact that even though egg whites were not an option on the menu, they were still able to make that accommodation for her. Food took about fifteen minutes or so to get to the table, not too bad. We finished our food, I liked it, mom liked it, we were happy campers, We'll be returning with pops & my other two siblings. All in all, this is better than either IHOP or Denny's, it might not be as nice (it's not fancy by any means, but the food is heartier & cheaper). Staff here is super nice. I would say the prime rib that they advertise does kind of suck. It's cut very thin and it looks more like a Porkchop haha! Breakfast is super good. The waffle is is a Belgian style thick, tasty treat. Omelettes are good. My boyfriend loves the sausage only because he likes how the waitress says "Sausage ". Club sandwich and French dip are recommended for lunch. We are regulars here due to the prices, the friendly staff, and the good food. Much better than a Denny's or an IHOP. read more

My wife and I visited Mikki's this morning on our quest for the best breakfast spot in Escondido. Mikki's has an old time feel but not an old time look. The portions were large and the price was right. They offer bottomless mimosas for $8. We had two carafes. The only negative Is they did not have any pork substitutes on the breakfast menu as to why only 4 stars. Please add turkey or chicken to your breakfast options. read more

Tuesday December 21st I went to have breakfast here with my mother, grandmother, and nephew. We all ordered a simple breakfast and received poor service from a lady with dyed blond hair. (Food was unflavored anyway). She rang us up for a total of $63 dollars, we payed and left. The lady did not offer me a receipt and as soon as I signed the receipt she told me goodbye. I then checked my bank account a couple days later and I was charged $73 from here. I came back a few days after because of Christmas being in the way and them closing as early as 2pm every day. When I walked in December 26th right away attitude from the same lady, she mentioned how she didn't remember us and even struggled to do her math when I asked her to ring me up for the same breakfast items we got that day. She just opened her register and gave me cash with a quick sorry and walked away. What was suspicious is that yes, I mentioned she gave me no receipt, but I told her I could show her a screenshot on my phone of the amount I was overcharged and she did not ask to see it. So how often do they do this?...Would just recommend checking your bill before you pay and might as well do the math yourself since they just use a calculator and charge you whatever they want. *Also just read through the reviews and saw someone else mention the rude service the same lady provided. Just because it is family owned doesn't mean you have to have your rude family members serving paying customers. read more

My favorite thing here is the prime rib and eggs followed by the pancakes. Every time I come here they don't disappoint, service is great always checking in on your coffee cup to make sure it is always full. Prices are fair so you're actually getting a good deal. Now you're thinking prime rib at a fair price it's probably not a great cut, now you may be right but here's the thing it is prepared perfectly to were it is a great piece of meat, clearly the cook/chef knows what he is doing in the kitchen so kudos to him!
