Under new management and no longer Wild Cook! We just missed the buffet on Sunday afternoon. Our food tasted as if it may have been pulled from the buffet they just took down. Butter chicken had more sauce than chicken and the Biryani was very dry with no flavor in the abundance of rice with over spiced pieces of chicken. Our butter naan was fresh after we reminded our server we had ordered it. We did not get the bread until half way through our meal. Veggie samosas were good but were brought out with our meal instead of as an appetizer. We were given bottled water at the beginning of our meal without being asked, I think we may have been charged for these. No offer to provide more water. Customer Service: The Wilde Cook's Indian Grill went ABOVE AND BEYOND for me! I ordered a nice late-night meal on DoorDash and called to verify some details about the spice level of the food. The man was extremely polite and helpful. My driver picked up my order and then cancelled it. I called the owner of the restaurant to let them know that I would place an order tomorrow since my order was cancelled after being picked up. Instead, the man offered to remake and deliver my food. He took down my address and made sure to get this to me despite my order being placed at 11pm. The driver called to let me know he was on the way and he was so kind when delivering my food. The customer service was so beyond my expectations- which is an extremely important component of a business. They are under new management and I am just so impressed. I wish this restaurant much success going forward. Food: I ordered a large white rice, a medium spicy curry chicken, and garlic naan bread. Two words: FIVE. STARS. The food is as beautiful and delicious as the photos. There is something about Indian Food from a good local restaurant. You can just taste the love and time that went into this food. The garlic naan was fresh, pretty, and delicious! The curry chicken was perfectly seasoned and so was the rice. I've been craving Indian food for a week and it definitely hit the spot! They are clearly passionate about their food AND service; the best of both worlds. If you're looking for a new Indian joint to try- these are your people. Food was EXCELLENT but I wasn't blown away by the customer service. My friend and I arrived around 5:30pm today and the restaurant was completely empty. When we walked in we weren't acknowledged right away and there was a man standing near the entrance that clearly was an employee and ignored us. He was standing up, eating Indian food and watching TV. We decided to just pick a table and sit down. A few minutes later a waiter came over to greet us. We shared the full Chicken Tika Masala meal with a side of garlic/onion naan. The price of the whole meal for the two of us was $20. The quality, flavor, and price of the food was AMAZING! I just wasn't impressed with the friendliness/promptness of the staff. The restaurant was completely empty and, while there were some phone orders, I could see no reason why the staff wasn't more attentive. Bring back the old management. The new management has taken away the buffet and replaced it as storage. The staff is a one man show with no customer service. The food is fine, however be prepared to pay $3 for water and another $3 for tea. The 90.0 sanitation rating is generous. It's a $25 dollar meal for which you eat on styrofoam plates that you get yourself, plastic utensils, and bus your own table. I'm a big fan of Wild Cook's Indian Grill! I've gotten delivery twice now and everything always arrives hot and delicious. I also really appreciate the price point here. Sometimes with Indian food at other spots if you want a variety you ended up paying soooo much. Here they have a small and regular size option which is perfect for me. I can get a ton of variety for a reasonable price. On to the food! My favorite dish here is the palak paneer so flavorful and delicious. This does have a bit of spice to it, I'm a wimp when it comes to spice. If you are into spice I'm sure you'll find it mild. For me it's just enough of a flavorful kick. I also enjoyed the chicken tikka masala, they load you up on the sauce which is perfect. The first time I got it it was mild, the second time while I requested mild it was definitely medium. I had great expectations from this restaurant when I ordered their Paneer Dum Biriyani and Paneer chilli for dinner via doordash. Sadly the experience was very bad. The paneer Biriyani was dry, had hardly any paneer pieces, very very spicy and no gravy at all. Who doesn't make a Biriyani with a layer of gravy? The paneer chilli on the other hand was just too spicy, the paneer was rubbery and dry again. Also, the chilli was missing. This dish was an overload of paneer. Wow! What a horrible experience! We just moved to the area and decided to try this restaurant. What a disappointment! My wife, two children, and I were the only people there when we arrived for dinner. The waiter sat us but never offered to take a drink order. 10 minutes later he finally came back to take our dinner order. We ordered goat curry, chicken biryani, and paneer korma, garlic naan, and a samosa chat for an appetizer. The waiter still didn't ask us about drinks. So we asked for water. He brought it out in bottles. All the food came out at once. No silverware or plates on the table, so we asked. He then told us that plates and spoons were at the buffet area. Small styrofoam plates and plastic forks and spoons. The place is dark and you stick to the floor when walking. Both staff that I saw ate their dinner (funny that they ate from regular plates and metal utensils) while we were eating. The sign says under new management. This is one of the worst dining experiences my family has ever had. The food was mediocre, and the rice was not warm. The Chicken Tikka Masala was watery and nearly flavorless. We found hair in our food. There were cobwebs and dead flies in many spots, and a live roach crawled across the floor as we ate. The Wild Cook's Indian Grill has authentic affordable food and very friendly service. The restaurant has the charm that comes with being unassuming and uniquely decorated, almost like a hole-in-the-wall "secret" place, but without the fear factor! Service comes with a smile and they make you feel very welcome. We stopped in for dinner before a show, and I was very glad to see 'small' size options on their dinner menu. I could eat just enough without having to put leftovers in a car that smells (wonderfully but invited) like the restaurant. Plus, it's easier on the wallet. If you've not had Indian before, try the navratan curry, mild. It's very approachable, and has flavors that don't need the heat. I've never had the chicken makhani, but I've heard it's a good meat-based intro dish. And, of course, you'll need garlic naan and a mango lassi to complete your first culinary trip to India! If you're familiar with Indian food, you'll definitely find your favorites here along with a few surprises. Tip: don't skip the onion chutney! It looks like the fires of hell, but it's an excellent (not too spicy) condiment on.... everything! My friend and I came here on a Saturday and enjoyed the lunch buffet, which is just $8, the cheapest I've ever had to pay for an Indian lunch buffet. Some of the items in the buffet included saag, butter chicken, chana masala, samosas, pakoras. Even though it was $8, this buffet is definitely on par with other Indian lunch buffets that are a couple of dollars more expensive. Also, not every Indian buffet has samosas, so it was a plus that Wild Cook's did. They also bring you a plate of salad and then some sweet rice pudding for after your meal. As somebody who once ate at the old India Mahal, all I can say is thank you for putting a new restaurant in that space! I have some friends who liked it but it was a pretty poor excuse for Indian eats IMO. Enter Wild Cook's Indian Grill. The space has been freshened up a bit but it's still a bit old-school. Young staff in t-shirts (pretty sure they are State students) handle the dining room. Our visit was for brunch and for $8.50 it wasn't bad. Tried the butter chicken, tandoori chicken, some saag and more. Everything was reasonably well done but definitely under-seasoned. The naan was a bit under-cooked but you know what? For the price I really can't complain. There were 10 to 12 choices on the buffet and that's plenty enough for lunch! And the basic taste was there so who's to complain? I ordered a couple of things and none of them were good. Lamb kebab - I attached a photo of the "lamb kebab". It was literally 5 pieces of lamb taken out of an oily curry and put in a box. That's not kebab. The funny thing is, they called me from the restaurant to confirm I wanted lamb kebab. And then sent me that weird thing you see in the photo. Odd. Sweet Lassi - was watery and didn't taste good at all. Goat Curry- at this point I had almost given up. But this wasn't even remotely tasty. I am Indian and have tried many Indian places in the neighborhood and in America in general. I can say with 100% certainty that this is some of the worst food, and THE worst Indian food I have had the pleasure of ordering. Not only was the lamb and chicken tough and chewy in the mixed grill and the lamb kebabs, there was no flavour. The chicken had enough food color on it that it painted our fingers bright orange even after a vigorous washing out. The meat tasted like leftover pieces from a curry, quickly marinated and tossed into an oven. No tandoor flavor on the tandoori chicken, how did you manage that? The keema naan was similarly devoid of all flavor except for salt, and also of any sign of the tenderness you would expect from a naan. We also ordered the mixed appetizers and the samosa was pretty bad, we had to throw it away. The rest was average. The only saving grace, somewhat, was a mediocre veg kofta curry, but would not have paid the $70 that we paid all in all for the order (delivered) just for that. read more

I was in town for a short visit, and I decided to give The Wild Cook's Indian Grill a second chance. The 4-star average is very promising. The restaurant may have finally gotten its act together. Add in the 10% off coupon with a Yelp check-in, and I was set to have a very good experience. I dined here with a friend during Sunday lunch. Like many Indian places, The Wild Cook's Indian Grill offers a lunch buffet. This time, I didn't make the mistake of going to the restaurant towards the end of the lunch hour. We walked in right around noon. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, so I gave them the opportunity to succeed. Unfortunately, they failed me even worse than before. The buffet selections are very limited, even compared with similar Indian buffets. Meat selections were limited to Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Saag. As a most carnivorous carnivore, this could be a problem, but it isn't always a problem. Rajbhog Café in Morrisville, for example, had a very limited buffet when I visited, featuring only one meat dish. Flavor and quality matter, and they can absolutely triumph over shortcomings. Sadly, the buffet at The Wild Cook failed me in every single way. The selections were limited, and they were not good. Every selection was almost shockingly bland. This was an extreme opposite to my previous dining experience where every dish was far too salty. I wouldn't be surprised if they received a lot of customer complaints about the saltiness and then chose to overcorrect in the opposite direction. The price at The Wild Cook's Indian Grill is slightly below average. Sadly, the food is significantly below average. While I liked the service that I received at The Wild Cook, the bar is set very high for Indian food. An average Indian restaurant serves very good food. The food at The Wild Cook isn't nasty, but that's the most positive thing that I can say. Go to Kabab and Curry further down Hillsborough instead. read more

Talk about a ​hidden gem! I have to admit that I've passed through here multiple times within the past few years but never noticed it until I Yelped. I decided to stop here for a Saturday lunch. It's a small place but the buffet was delicious. I was impressed​ but the flavors and amount of food. It was the perfect amount of items on the menu, not overwhelming like most Indian buffets. The $9-10 price point was perfect so I couldn't complain about it. There's free parking which is a major plus but I'm sure it can be easily filled on the weekdays. The owners were really kind. This restaurant is one of the worst in Raleigh. My father and stepmother ate there yesterday. Despite checking with the waitress about her life threatening nut allergy, the chef cooked their food with cashews. Within a single bite of the food, my stepmother experienced an anaphylactic reaction. They both told the waitress (who appeared to understand very little English) that she could die if she had any nut exposure. They were promised none of the food contained nuts. My stepmother had to be rushed to the emergency room, where she ultimately accrued a several hundred dollar bill. My father, who is eyesight impaired, was frantically trying to check out to get her medical attention. He ended up being charged over $70 for the meal, which consisted of two meals and two drinks. Despite the fact that they barely touched the food given the LIFE-THREATENING ALLERGY, they were charged full price for the meal. To add insult to injury, when my father tried to call to discuss the matter, the man he talked to hung up on him. Worst customer service in Raleigh. Now, they missed celebrating their anniversary, spent $400 on a terrible meal and resulting doctor visit, and will be unable to fully celebrate the Easter holiday while my stepmom recuperates. Not only is the food ridiculously overpriced and the customer service absolutely atrocious, this restaurant does not care about the well-being or even lives of their customers. Update: Her medical bill from this catastrophe will be well over $1000. And the staff double charged them for the spinach meal she ordered, which was prepared poorly to begin with. Not only did this establishment swindle my eyesight impaired father and put nuts in a dish despite being warned of an anaphylactic reaction, the owner STILL has not offered to return the outrageous charge for the terrible meal. Wilde Cooks Indian used to be my go to place last year BEFORE changing to Tikka Taco with new management. I ordered the butter chicken the other night and it was so watery and looked so gross I thought I was gonna get food poisoning and threw it away. Something wasn't right about it because it wasn't creamy at all, straight liquid and oil, and the chicken was just sitting on the bottom and the sauce wasn't even covering it (it's like the gravy and the chicken separated). There were also very large chunks of unedible I think spices but I thought it was a roach at first. That wouldn't surprise me as the inside looks like it's halfway under construction, with boxes stacked up in the dinning room. Workers were outside smoking when I left and the whole place had a dirty feeling. The samosas were clearly frozen before and were so hard, like how can u mess up a samosa??? I never write reviews but I spent over $30 on this food just to throw it away because of how gross it was, and i'm not a picky eater. Yes I said I ordered this the other day, but it was so gross i'm still thinking about it and felt the need to warn others. I ordered take out and was told it would be 20 To 25 min and it was 45 min from the time I called and was given my food. Once I picked up our dinner and arrived home, one of our dishes was missing. It was replaced with another chicken dish and a small amount of chicken at that. The butter chicken was watered down, the butter naan had no butter on it. The rice that was given for both $15 for each meal was only 1/2 cup of rice in total. All of this for takeout costing over $40. I will not go back...ever. You have been warned. read more
