I love boba and today I officially fell in love with a new boba spot - Milk Tea Lab! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Daniella and she was awesome. Made some great recommendations like the Taro Milk Tea with white pearls for $5.50. What the heck? I'm not a boba expert but how come I just found out about white boba? It's sweet and yummy and the best topping for the Taro milk tea. We also got my regular milk tea boba with lychee jelly for $3.50. The best! If you're a boba spot and you mess up a milk tea, you're done lol. But no, their milk tea is the bomb. I'm so happy we found this place. I love the music playlist and it's really clean inside. Came here last night, ordered two drinks and two food items took 40 mins. there was a group of girls hovered at the counter talking to the staff that took our food items. And when 20 mins passed we asked "hey we've been waiting" they said oh we brought it out and we told them yeah but the other group said it was there's apparently it wasn't and they stole food and left. Milk Tea Lab is located in a busy shopping center. This place can be hard to miss, since it is near Safeway. Once you come, this place can become a repeat. I have been to Milk Tea Lab several times. Even though there are a limited amount of flavors, I feel it is slightly refreshing to those who never know what to get, instead of being bombarded by a million flavors. I have enjoyed the regular milk tea, strawberry milk tea, and some smoothie options. I have also tried some specials that have had pudding and coffee jelly. I have also tasted the regular tapioca balls. This list definitely proves that I am liking the establishment. One consistent con is the wait time. Quick take: great customer service Milk Tea Lab is a cute name. That is how this place caught my attention. This place has a pretty big seating area for a milk tea shop. Menu is easy on the eyes. Customer service is really good. I was a bit indecisive about what I wanted. So the employee who was helping me out made me a sample of one of the fruit teas. Peach green tea at 100% is really good. I like my drinks sweet. Ordered a regular w/Lychee jelly ($.50). My tea shop buddy ordered a Pearl milk tea w/boba 30% sugar. Boba is included with the pearl milk tea. The type of icy where all the liquid disappears super quickly, and then you're just left with three quarters a cup of ice. This has happened every single time with the Mango Lover and the Matchaha. When I first heard about this place, I was excited. Honestly, attempting to find a good boba spot in this area is difficult. Even big names like Sharetea and Quickly's just doesn't taste that great out here... Milk Tea Lab is located in a plaza next to Safeway, so parking shouldn't be too much of an issue. The interior is simple and clean. They have games like other boba places, but from a glance a few of the games looked Grimes. Service was friendly and quick. They also provided samples of their drinks and boba, which was nice! My friend ordered the Roasted Milk Tea and I got the Lychee Green Tea. I tried my friend's drink and it wasn't bad. I wish it had a deeper taste to it though. I liked my Lychee Green Tea better and the fact it had pieces of lychee was great! Size wise, the regular is the typical size you would get else where, while their large is humongous (for only 50 cents more, which is highly worth it). Loving the combination of great things at this boba place in Pleasant Hill. It's such an open and colorful space and they have games and wifi so you can really make your experience here how you want it. I love how they're open until 2am which is a great plus. It was definitely a bit too sweet for my taste but the portions here are great. I think people suggest getting a large because it is definitely worth the price. This past weekend was brutal. I had to work overtime the entire weekend in the scorching heat. When I got home last night, the last thing I wanted to do was eat. So after watching the last five minutes of the Warriors/Cavaliers game, I decided to grab my brother to try out Milk Tea Lab. After all, there are carbs and protein in a cup of boba milk tea, right? Perfect dinner replacement! Milk Tea Lab is located at the Pleasant Hill Plaza, directly across from 3 Brothers from China. We arrived at around 8:30pm and it was about 90% full. The spacious interior was bright and clean. The place had a nice vibe. Softly played pop music can be heard. We were greeted by one of the staff members. She was cheerful and courteous. It didn't take us long to order. I got a large Matcha Milk Tea ($4.50 with boba, 30% sweetness level, less ice) while my brother opted for the Classic Milk Tea ($4.50 with boba, 30% sweetness level, less ice). We waited for our drinks at a table close to the counter. About five minutes later, another staff member brought them to us. We were pleasantly surprised by the size. They were about 20% larger than the large-size drinks at other boba establishments. The matcha milk tea was very good. The boba pearls were smaller than the ones used by most shops. They were cooked properly and had a nice chew to them. Good tea flavor was noticed in my drink, with lots of matcha powder mixed in it. At 30% sweetness level, it had a nice bitter note to each sip. My brother seemed to like his drink as well. IMHO, I think Milk Tea Lab deserves five stars because 1) excellent drinks, 2) great value, 3) great location, 4) friendly service, and 5) late closing time. When the summer heat gets real, you wanna cool down. And when you're not craving some hefty ice cream or juice smoothie, milk + tea + sugar make for a creamy dessert trick you don't have to feel entirely guilty about. So when I heard Milk Tea Lab popped up in the already busy and populated plaza off Pleasant Hill Rd by a 24/7 Starbucks, Safeway and neat Taqueria, I was skeptical how they'd pair up against the other local spots nearby. But you can bet this place offers a nice study hub for DVC kids or suburban locals wanting to get in on their boba fix. I've been here a couple of times and, as a HUGE matcha green tea drinker, I had to go for theirs. I'm a barista myself and usually make myself matcha lattes, but always wondered how matcha milk tea seems to differ... The manager has been on duty every time I've stopped by and she knows her drinks well. Matcha is naturally bitter, and when I asked for mine less sweet, it was perfectly not-too-sweet and not-too-bitter. (Also, since they're new, the cashier girl didn't really know what the drinks were and kept turning to the manager for questions... I oft do that myself when I'm new, but you'd figure after a few more weeks you'd get it down!) All that beside, this place is a welcome spot to the area and I'm sure it will thrive. There aren't too many milk tea/bubble tea places around, and as opposed to Concord's Sharetea, this is my more local pick and option. They put a bit more care into their drinks than I'd say those other places nearby do, and they're good. Only thing: shop and decor seems a little "plastic-ky" and tacky, a little "not cohesive," but they're new and who am I to judge?!? They do what they do and they're delivering. Well well well, where do I even start? My friends and I driving around while one of us recommends Milk Tea Lab. That will end up being the worst decision ever made. We arrive and everything's normal. We then hear the worst music ever. I don't even know what to call it. Mixed sounds and so loud I couldn't hear anything. Then, the service. I ordered boba. But they decide to tell me that they don't have any after I ordered. It then took about 30 minutes of me sitting through that horrible music. Unbelievable. read more

The teas are good but I must say this is the filthiest tea cafe I've ever been to. I rank it 0 stars for cleanliness! Would it kill them to have the floor moped or wipe down the front door, tables, chairs etc... ??? I would never drink my tea in there I would get too grossed out!!! Update! Came here again and had excellent service. The lady at the register was again very nice and helpful and informative! They made our drinks very quickly :) One of my friends ordered a Taro milk tea and the lady at the register (I think her name was Faith, it says that on my receipt) did let her know that it was slightly a grainy texture but my friend still ordered it anyway. After my friend tried her drink (which was served to us at our table, thank you!) she realized she didn't much like it and said it tasted slightly like potatoes. She went back up to the bar and apologized and asked if there was anything they could do about it and the same lady quickly offered to make her a new classic pearl milk tea, no problem. My friend couldn't have been thankful enough and I totally think THAT is awesome service. My friends and I also played the 5 Second Rule game that they had and it was pretty fun for us being 21 haha! A milk tea shop with great potential but is lacking attention to detail. Today I tried their peach milk tea with boba and their hot roasted milk tea with boba. The hot roasted milk tea hit the spot on such a cold day, but the boba in the peach milk tea was stuck together in a huge clump. It was to the point where I could not consume any of the boba through my straw. I also tried the popcorn chicken and the calamari rings. The meat was fresh but it was in need of much more seasoning. I have mixed emotions about this place but will probably give them another chance in due time. read more

Hands down, my favorite boba spot in the area! Great drinks/snacks, place to hang, GAMES, and great music. I LOVE #2 ($4) - Roasted Milk Tea with Grass Jelly. Their other drinks here are pretty bomb too and their large cup is HUGEEE when it comes down to it. Depending on the drink you get, a large might only cost you $4 ($4.50 on other drinks). Worth it! Note: Their taro is a little different here! They'll warn you if/when you order or ask about it - they're super nice though. This review is a compilation of all my visits to this boba place. I only come here for one drink, the honey roasted milk tea. I've tried two other drinks but they didn't top my favorite. Their boba is really good too. It's the perfect balance of soft & chewy. I've never encountered old boba from them which is a major plus. Their regular size is big which is worth the $4. The shop itself is cute. There's plenty of parking but usually filled on busy hours since it's next to a Safeway. There's plenty of seating and there's even a waiting area where you can also sit while waiting for your order. They also provide an assortment of games on the side of the cashier. Their employees are always nice. I've always had good customer service from them even on busy days. The drinks took awhile but only one person was making drinks so I don't blame them for that. Another plus is that they close later than most boba places. I'm taking a star off because of inconsistency. Most of the time it's good but there are off days.. Also, it can be quite a mess sometimes but people just need to start cleaning up after themselves. They should also consider adding another person to help out when it's busy. Therefore, customers would be happy with quick service & employees would be less stressed from order overload. Overall, I'll probably come back whenever I'm in the area and craving boba. read more

This location is always empty save for two or three bored staff members usually doing homework. That means here, every table is mine, all of the attention is on ME and *I* can finally be the star of the movie in my mind. The tea and milk are probably fine if you like mango or green tea and want to see them make love in a plastic cup. Which I do. And they have. Roughly. But urine smell? It's there and its amazing and worth every moment you are in line (completely alone obviously) and wondering, "Is that...pee? Or does tea smell like that? No. No it's pee." Such a cute concept! Only weird thing is their outside sign. It appears on one side, but their door is actually to the right of their sign. Beneath their sign is actually the taqueria. I love their periodic board they have. It lets you know how many calories each item is, incase you were interested. The menu is short and simple, which makes it easy to just pick something and run with it. I naturally got a large passion fruit green tea and it was huge. I received a classic one. I went back for a remake because I really wanted to try the mango on since I haven't had it before. The mango one was not good it almost had a chalky taste to it. I don't know if it was too much powder stuff they add in or what. But it wasn't good at all. The time before this visit they were completely out of boba for the drinks which is one of the main reasons I go for milk tea. Getting a good milk tea is very hit or miss here. What I love most about this spot is that it is open super late. If you find yourself not wanting to end the night with your date, you bring them here. Not to mention, the milk teas are actually really good. They have a variety of flavors, but I tried the super cow I think it was called? Either way, it was really good and wouldn't mind getting it again. They also have a variety of board games you can use with your group or date. The only problem I have is that it is a little on the dirty side. We opened up one of the "Cranium" board games and there was a nasty used straw inside. The table we sat at was super sticky and used cups were left on the table next to us and never cleaned the whole time we were there. There was 4 people on staff and it was not busy at all. This place was on our way home so we stopped by. It was hot inside, floors and tables were dirty, and even counters were sticky. They were out of boba when we got there so I ordered a pearl milk tea with grass jelly instead. The drink itself was good but nothing unique that will bring me back. When the drinks are ready, they leave them on the counter and they have milk tea or grass jelly remnants on the outside. They don't even wipe the cups down before they give them to you! Been here a couple of times. So far so good. Minus one star just because the boba to drink ratio isn't quite up to par with Sharetea. Granted that Milk Tea Lab has two different drink sizes. I'm not sure if they do put different amounts of boba depending on the size, but either way, I could use more boba in my drinks.
