Another bar with tons of TVs with No Sound on !? So a bunch us guys went hear for the NCAA tournament games a couple of times in the past few weekends. Pretty much everyone siting at the tables & bars where there for the games especially the back bar/room. You would think with having a ton of TVs & that remote TV booth they would have the sound one for the games (especially on a Sat night Villanova game!) THAT WAS NOT THE CASE!! Both weekends No Sound! By the middle of the 1st half the Nova game it cleared out!! There were a ton of Nova fans looking to watch & hear the game but bc they couldn't hear the sound they/we left. Bartenders, waitresses, managers are all clueless or could careless about the games!!!! If you want to watch the games with sound stay home!! Or try Champs, PJ's as long it's no a Saturday with a band, Xfinity or Chickies. We will not be going here for the Final Four, Flyers games/playoffs or any big games!! So Miller's Ale House is way bigger than I thought (that's what she said) and the neon glow of signs and big flatscreens permeates the place, as with any sports bar. There is a lot of seating at tall, long tables with stools. Who invented the stool, though, and seriously WHY? Whoever decided to remedy this monstrosity of a seat with a chair back was a brilliant saint. However, the stools are backless here. Fear not though, your yelp pseudo-protagonist with poor sitting posture (me) found a table at the back. The acoustics of this place are such that it is likely loud at 10% capacity. The waitress we had did not understand or hear us at any point throughout the evening. Also, if I cared enough, I would have a bone to pick about their ridiculous uniforms. While male staff members had slacks and black button-ups or polos, the women were clad in black tees, black aprons, and uber short black shorts or skirts. Worse were the neon lime green athletic socks and neon pink suspenders. I guess the intention (other than exploiting lady limbs) was to match the neon glow? But in an environment of wood, philly colors, and fish sculptures mounted on the walls, it seemed even more ill-fitting. Which is all ultimately irrelevant, I suppose. Because worse is the food. Who really cares what the wait staff is wearing when the food is something I could make of better quality at home? My cheeseburger was the most boring, bland burger I've had in... years. The fries on various plates at our table were inconsistent in color and spices. My brother was disappointed in the seafood mac & cheese. My friend's order of a steak with a lobster tail came accompanied by what were probably frozen veggies out of a bag. I'd be willing to come back and maybe up the rating to three stars, but only because they have a decent set of beers available. I went here on a Monday night with two friends. We were seated right away, and I was impressed by all of the seating options - huge booths, the bars, and tables. I am gluten free, so I requested the gluten free menu, which I saw was available on their website. The gluten free menu has the vegetarian menu also has the vegetarian menu. I noticed that the special menus do not list any prices. Both of these menus are short, but I think anyone could find something to eat here. The service seemed a bit slow for a Monday night, but the waitress was very friendly and handled my many questions about the food well. She went back to the kitchen a couple times to inquire about gluten free options for me. Unfortunately, I wanted to order the gluten free pizza that is on the menu, but they don't actually have it in the kitchen yet. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas without the tortillas. It was a nice serving of piping hot mushrooms and peppers served with lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream. It was about $9. I also ordered a Sauza margarita for only $3.95. I was pretty satisfied with my meal, but it wasn't spectacular. My friends ordered the chicken parm and chicken quesadilla. A couple of the pieces of my friend's quesadilla had no chicken and only a few specks of cheese, so she wasn't thrilled with her dinner. She also felt like her mixed drink had barely any booze. Met up with a girlfriend here for some drinks after work. The layout of the restaurant is pretty much uniform to another I've been to. It is a huge bar/restaurant with tons of TVs, so much so that wherever you sit you will have a view. Tonight was Monday Night Football and the Eagles were playing so it was VERY loud as it's basically set up in 3 separate rooms all with their own bar and seating, all open and loud. Pros: Good bar food, cheap drink prices, great desserts. Cons: The level of noise, service is sporadic/slow... ie when you do see your waitress she's very attentive to get you what you need quickly but the problem is it's far and few between that you see your waitress! I like their zingers and their mixed drink pricing is really really good. I ate, we drank and shared a dessert all in 3 hours time and our bill was only $36 in the end. Definitely a great place to watch a game with friends however it's hard to actually hold a conversation bcuz it's very hard to hear each other just from as close as across the table. I only experienced one instance where the staff was somewhat "ignoring" me while gathering around to tell tales, but it wasn't as bad as some of the other reviewers experience. The place is really big, and very clean. (Keep in mind it just opened, so if it weren't clean, I would be concerned) There are literally TV's EVERYWHERE!! I have made up my own term for Miller's Ale House when describing it to other people: it is a "bro-bar and restaurant". If you gave a few post-grad fraternity brothers and sorority sisters the money to start a restaurant and bar, I think Miller's Ale House is what you would get. The interior says, "Sports bar!" when you walk in the door. Lots of wood paneling and lots of flat screen TVs. We have never had to wait for seating and the place seems rather large (although other Yelp reviewers seem to have an issue with wait times). Another thing that brings us back to Miller's is the fact it is one of the ONLY places nearby that is open (excluding diners) after 10 pm on weeknights--I believe they close at midnight on weekdays and 2 am on weekends. Maybe the fact that we go late is why we usually don't wait? To clarify my previous "bro bar" designation, Miller's Ale House is clean and well-maintained. It reminds me of college folks because it fills up on Thursdays and weekends and if you go late at night, you may run into some VERY drunk people on the side of the restaurant with the pool tables and patio. If you stay mainly on the restaurant side, you may not notice. The food is also emphasizing portion and value instead of ultimate goodness. Other Yelp reviews have complained about the service. We have been about six times and only one of those visits gave us a server that I would classify as "not good". The last time we visited our server was actually fantastic--she spent lots of time making sure there wasn't any dairy in a few items we were curious about trying on a night where the restaurant was very busy. There was one occasion where they served my partner a salad we had requested without dairy (due to an allergy) that came laden with cheese, they quickly replaced it and several people (including at least two managers) came by to apologize. Some items on our check were also comped, and it truly felt like a fair recovery from their mistake. There is nearly nothing on the menu if you are vegan, which is why I go here nearly solely to drink. The meat-eaters we have brought along with us for our visits to Miller's have seemed to enjoy their orders. There was a steak special of some kind on Thursdays that was particularly well-received by some of my in-laws. I have eaten their fries and their salads. These are fine, but nothing different than you might find at any diner nearby. I do not sit at the bar because I feel that space is best left to the hardcore sports fans that populate this portion of New Jersey. One of the most remarkable things about Miller's is their alcoholic drink selection: it is expansive and you get a LOT for your money. Their on-tap beer selection is respectable--I discovered Widmer's Drifter Ale here, which is their Thursday special. Lots of shooter specials and mixed drink specials every night. Miller's is definitely trying to put the "happy"in happy hour! In summary, there are certainly times where visiting Miller's is in order: to grab a drink, hang out, and people watch. The walls are covered in TVs, the menu covers everything, the drink specials are great, the servers have "flare", there are two bars, and two pool tables. Millers is a Florida chain and the Mount Laurel location is owned by adjoining Aloft. It is very conveniently located for me and apparently everyone else. Each time I was there including one Wed night, it was packed and tables were scarce. The place is huge with two full bars, a mixture of tall tables, dining tables and an ample patio with seating off the second bar. Flat TV's are everywhere at Millers making it a great sportsbar destination. It's hard to have a seat without a good view of the game. Behind the second bar is a lounge area with couches and stone fireplace adorned with a large flatscreen - nice touch. Service at Millers has been spotty at best with more inexperienced help than hoped for, but the menu is very good with reasonable pricing. Beer, drink specials are seven days a week and priced similarly to happy hour specials. Food is above average. Millers is setup to be a sports bar/restaurant, not a club for dancing or live music. As of this writing it's a trendy spot bringing out a mixed crowd of 20-somethings and older folks. Parking lot is big and on three sides, expect it to be full if you're coming out later at night. On a recent trip leaving on a Saturday night cars were literally waiting for people to walk out. I don't quite understand people that come to these types of establishments expecting a world-class meal. The fact that it's located in a strip-mall esque plaza surrounded by three or so hotels should be evidence enough that this place is for weary travellers that are tired of being overpriced for crappy beer and barely alcoholic drinks at their hotel. Miller's Ale House was conveniently next door to my rescue, not only serving over twenty types of "craft beer" (I put this in quotations because they listed Crispin or some other cider as "craft beer") on draft, but also having awesome bartenders that were particularly attentive to their customers. Ambience and food wise, think of this place as a cross between Carolina Ale House and Buffalo Wild Wings--the same rules apply here as they do in other franchise joints of this type: if you don't want to be disappointed, strike up a friendly conversation with your server/bartender and then ask them what to try and what to avoid from the kitchen; I ordered the Sweet Thai Chili zinger and was pleasantly surprised. Have been here several time since they've opened - a few times at the bar & once for a full dinner. This place is very convenient for me & I have returned hoping to have a better experience. Even on a Weds or Fri happy hour - the bartenders just seem to wander as if the customers don't exists - never making eye contact. The whole visit was kind of a weird experience and not to the fault of the restaurant itself. We came shortly after a fire alarm had gone off, which caused the evacuation of the restaurant. As we arrived, everyone was back in the establishment, but fire engines and firefighters were still present. We were sat right away (around 6:30 on a Saturday night). Our waitress told us many tables after being evacuated from the building, dined and ditched. We felt really bad for her. She took our orders fairly quickly. Obviously, the kitchen was all confused and overwhelmed due to the fire alarm. Our appetizer (calamari) came out after about a half hour. It was pretty darn delicious though and it was cooked perfectly. The sauce that is drizzled over it had nice flavor and bite. Clearly the highlight of the meal. The entrees came out probably another half hour after the appetizer. For an entree I ordered the 35 Fried Shrimp. Which is literally 35 shrimp, breaded and fried. It is about what you'd expect. Nothing mindblowing. I ordered the mashed potato side and it was pretty awful. I finished all the shrimp because that was the only thing on my plate. The girlfriend order the fish tacos and noted they were pretty cold. The other couple we went with had burgers and noted that they were pretty excellent. Their entrees came out about 5 minutes after ours. Our entrees were obviously sitting out awhile. I think we really came at a bad time. This was my first visit, but I'd be willing to come back. The food didn't wow me and was extremely mediocre. The place is huge and features two humongous bars. I can imagine this be a fun place to grab a drink on a Friday or Saturday night. I've been to Miller's before and I probably should have ordered something I've had before and not tried anything new because I was not completely impressed by what I ate. The table ordered the appetizer combo, which came with spinach dip, mozzarella sticks, and potato skins. It was also supposed to come with fried mushrooms but they ran out (the restaurant was open for not even an hour...how can they run out of things already?). The spinach dip was really good, lots of ooey cheese flavor. For my main dish, I got the fish and chips. The portion was HUGE. It was obnoxious amount of food, really. It would have been a little better if the food was actually worth eating. But it wasn't. The fish had absolutely no flavor. Even with the assistance of the lemon that they gave me - it was still not good. I ended up eating my fries mostly and just leaving the bland fried fish on my plate. A bright spot was a service. The food came out at a great pace and the server was really friendly and helpful. This is a sports bar, first and foremost. If you are not ok with a noisy environment, you may want to avoid. There are TVs everywhere, always playing some Philly sports event (or ESPN) so it's a good place to check out the Phillies or flyers. There is a fantastic selection of beers on tap, including my personal favorite, Kona Big Wave. Getting that beer outside of Hawaii in a bottle is a treat, getting it on tap is like heaven on earth. The food is pretty good. The chicken nachos are huge and tasty. The zingers are awesome, with several different sauces to choose from. The only downside for this place is its popularity. Parking is sometimes a challenge and the bar is sometimes packed. It can turn some people off, especially when you have a family that is hungry. I know everyone is suffering staffing problems but website clearly states open till 11 pm. Entered miller's at 9:45 pm and was told they are no longer seating guests. They are still open for an hour and 15 mins this is crazy. Called the manager and they tried to apologize and stated it was due to being short staffed. If you have the same staff at 9:45 that you have at 9pm what changed that you couldn't seat two more people when there were two other people waiting? It's a shame that all these restaurants are pushing paying customers away. read more
