First time since this place was purchased from Millie's. The wonderful smiles and kindness of our local place has been bought out by a man called Victor. At first approach this man is miserable and grumpy!!! No smiles!!! Just anger n told me I couldn't sit at a four top. Put me at a 2 top, which is ok but told me if I didn't like it I can go, what??!!?!!! I sat n want to see how the food is. Our waitress is Kendall nice young woman. We started with the coffee cake, not as fluffy as the original Millies. It's only ok. The spinach, bacon omelette only ok. We first sat down around 11:40 got our food at 12:35!! I'm bummed about this place. I miss old Millie's like everyone misses old Millies :( First of all, didn't even know it changed and is under new management and new menu but kept Millie's name?!$ What in the world. Definitely did not earn the name. They really should have a sign or something and if they do and I missed it, my bad. It's post Covid and I don't know how many changes we can take. Yikes! Not the same ambiance. Not the same food. Not the same service. Not the same crowd. Not the same satisfied feeling when you leave. Not the same anything other than the location. I get that it's different but it's just not the same. The food was just alright 2-3 star range. I hope it gets better over time for those who come thinking it's Millie's. I think it's going to take a few tries at the menu to get it right. I brought newbies here thinking it was Millie's and nope.... disappointing. Everyone's nice and it looks nice inside, but I think it's gonna be hard to live up to Millie's. And if they are truly a different eatery then change the name. If you go in not knowing what Millie's used to be, this place is alright. It's not the no frills diner breakfast it used to be, but an updated bistro menu with things like avocado toast, and beer battered shrimp tacos. I tried to order the corned beef hash which I had been craving, but unfortunately they were out due to supply issues. Also, they don't serve all-american type combos with eggs any style with a pancake and hashbrowns (they serve breakfast potatoes instead and either an egg plate OR a sweet plate), which had been my second craving. I ended up getting the chilaquiles, which were just ok - the portion was huge and I was not even close to finishing it. They also serve Equator coffee which I had gotten excited about, but they really butcher it. The latte was 90% milk and the regular coffee was also blegh - both very under extracted. Sometimes that shitty bottomless diner coffee is actually better and just hits the spot. As for the service, I feel really bad for the owner and his partner. You can tell that duo works HARD - the owner is constantly running the food to tables - did not see him take even a 30 second breath in the 1.5 hours were there. HIs partner is the only one taking orders, chatting with the patrons, and trying to make the atmosphere a friendly place. The rest of the staff are a bunch of kids who the majority were not super friendly, or were hanging in the back texting. Only one of them was actually bringing tables their drinks and doing his job. All in all, I'd probably come back for the coffee cake - it was DELICIOUS, actually might've been more moist than Millie's used to have it. But the rest definitely didn't satisfy my simple diner breakfast craving. read more

Such a feeling of nostalgia with Millie's, went to Miramonte so would frequent this spot in my younger years. I'm now in my early 40's and finally returned today with my sisters! The service was impeccable. The new owner was witty, kind and sincere! Our server was also very warm and welcoming, brought back those warm , fuzzy feelings. The food was fantastic! My go to is the breakfast burrito, I added bacon, avocado, and and the chipotle sauce. It was a 10/10, I'm craving it now as I write this review. My sisters ordered the chilliquille, lol, I know I'm butchering the name, the avocado toast, roasted potatoes, and the side of bacon! I tried all of the food and it was delish!! Great, HUGE mimosas! Found this when looking for family breakfast places I kind of don't want to make a review because then it would get even busier! We have been twice now and they remembered us which is always a nice feeling. The food was just as good as last time and the service great. Not too cloying just the right level. The kids menus is great and the food is always fresh. I particularly like the Benedict's because they use great eggs. We always have take home so that's dinner sorted! We will be back for sure! I was surprised to find that the folks from American Kitchen take over and refresh Millie's. The location is about the same. The dining room is basically a repurposed house from the 40s. A dusty Jewel. The addition of outdoor seating is a real plus as it eliminates the historic lines. The Menu is a blend of American Kitchen fare with some of Millie's staples. Get the Coffee cake for the table along with your order. Had a mexican scrabble. well prepared, nice portion but a bit too small for two dudes to split. While sitting with my PhD Nurse practitioner Kenyan wife, the server felt the need to tell me the option she wanted was going to make the order "more expensive" I have never as a white man been informed so plainly that someone feels that I can't afford my meal. This bias was so obvious to me. I hope the server takes a moment to review his own conscious/unconscious bias but we aren't coming back. (post reply) I should have the read the reviews, I'm not a local, maybe I mistook the extremely bad communication skills and inherent crappy attitude for unconscious bias, but Victor needs to work on his "give his customers a warm feeling". I think it's worth noting that the lovely woman who started visiting our table was lovely and the whole reason we tipped. if I didn't know better, I'd say she knows about the, I'm guessing the owners, tone and thinly veiled resentment of customers. Customer service includes the term "service" because that's why customers pay 3-5x the cost for food then it costs to make it at home. You're customers keep you open and without some appreciation that people show up at all maybe you should just stay in the office and let your staff deal with the public. Oh another note, lambasting a customer for a negative review is about as smart as dumping gasoline in a pond because a fish jumped your hook. There is a pattern of behavior here and based on the conversation I've just had outside of public review, Victor will 100% resent anyone that isn't thankful for his presence. This use to be our go to place when the kid was little & she missed breakfast at school, so we'd stop by for the coffee cake & eggs. Today - of course we had the coffee cake, it seems like they've kept the original recipe with the exception of powdered sugar on top, doesn't need the extra sugar. Onto the mains, scrambled eggs with crispy bacon & country potatoes - I forgot to ask that they use real eggs, I ended up with the ones out of a mix of sorts, meh . Then there were the potatoes, a tad greasy. The kid had an omelette, again the fake egg product was meh, along with the greasy potatoes. Let's not forget the drinks, one coffee regular & one latte. So the latte was missing the chocolate powder, they use chocolate syrup again meh I feel the art of making a decent cafe latte or cappuccino has been lost; the drinks are meant to be layered & light. The service was punctual. The ambiance, the new owners have really lightened the room, actually quite nice. I can't really comment on the food because I'm vegan and the only thing on the menu I can eat is the avocado toast which is amazing so 2 thumbs up there. Our family were regulars at the old American Kitchen location and I loved their Beyond Burgers and fries. Unfortunately that is not on the new location's menu, but they can't cater to me so I understand. Is the owner a little gruff? Yes, but I grew up in NY so it doesn't shock or offend me, I find it comical, like the SNL Soup Guy skit but he's not that bad. The wait staff is friendly and pleasant. Give it a try! read more

I wouldn't come here again. I eat a carb-free diet. There were no hearty breakfast options without carbs, and substitutions are not allowed. So I paid for toast I didn't get, and I chose salad instead of potatoes, with the intention of making a breakfast salad. I ordered eggs and bacon, with salad. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Sadly, the salad cane pre-dressed with a sweet dressing. Not good with eggs. I asked for water, and it came with a disposable plastic cup. The server came by a few times and asked how things were, but she wasn't approachable in a way that made me want to bring it up. She was brusk and hurried, and wore dark sunglasses, even indoors. I read through some of the previous reviews, and it saddens me to see that the business's responses to poor reviews are defensive and lack grace. I wish they hadn't used the Millie's name. We were here today. We were served a runny yogurt parfait in an ice cream sundae glass. This made the parfait very hard to eat. We also ordered the Huevos Rancheros. It was disgusting and we left hungry. To top it off the owner was very short and rude. The other owner was friendly and she was the only positive experience from this restaurant. Despite being a longtime fan of the old Millie's, I absolutely LOVE the new Millie's! They have an updated menu with lots of options. At this point, I've enjoyed: - Huevos Rancheros...ordered many times and have a hard time NOT ordering this when I go - breakfast burrito... includes beans and generous amounts of avocado - spinach and tomato bennie... you can get crispy and delicious polenta on the bottom instead of an English muffin- awesome twist! Got this today, and it might be my new favorite. Customer service, which is usually the owner and another woman who might also be an owner(?), has never been anything short of terrific. I am always greeted pleasantly and warmly. While dining, the coffee keeps coming, they always ask if everything is tasting okay, and seem to sincerely enjoy a little friendly chatting! We always feel very welcome when we come here, even when we bring our kiddos (ages 3 and 6), something we really appreciate. Ingredients also seem top-notch. I'm picky about my eggs, and I can tell they only use the freshest and likely free range. The avocado and the vegetables are always flavorful, the coffee is great. Side note: One time I thought we left my daughter's sweatshirt there. I called, but while the phone was ringing, located said sweatshirt, so ended the call before anyone was able to answer. Within 5 minutes, the owner called me back to ask if everything was okay! Wow! So nice! Thank you Millie's American Kitchen! You are our favorite breakfast place. read more

A gem. Old Millies was overpriced bland senior breakfast charging double for half sized portions of exotic, cosmopolitan creations like "eggs with cheese," for cash-only no less. New ownership did it right... cleaned it up, revamped menu with food from the actual 21rst century, plus they take.... CREDIT CARDS! New staff greet with warmth and work hard to keep it easy for you, not a sad death spiral transference like before. Serves up delicious, reasonably healthy fare without making you feel like you should have arrived in a suit/lulu garb like everything else in town. Does NOT deserve the shade being thrown, these negative reviews are unfounded and yet another example of people taking out their lack of therapy on defenseless services. Let's start off with the service at this establishment. First off, you're greeted by Victor and shown to your table. There is occasionally a small wait but you're always seated quickly and shown to your table. The inside of the restaurant is a cute and homey feeling space that has fantastic ambiance and is a great place to spend a morning on a weekday or weekend. The coffee cake is an absolute must order and the eggs Benedict is also fantastic. The breakfast sandwiches are always great and the pancakes and French toast are as well. Great omelettes too. Well, the AK owner has brought what is in my view a miserable management style up the hill, and few are charmed by it. I've noticed the contentious tone of the elderly man in the review responses. On this page he told one dissatisfied customer "we won't miss you", he says on this page that he "will not tolerate customers who miss the old Millie's". There is nothing casual or relaxing about this location anymore. The extra star is for the Equator coffee and the coffee cake- at least that's still there, and it was good. I thought it was closed. Now I just wish it was. Everyone in Lafayette knows there are three places you don't try to replace. One of them is Millie's and one of them is Freddie's. And one of them is Johnny's. Go to the one place left in Lafayette that's a delicious original with nice service, and a quick, affordable in and out- Johnny's. read more

My husband and I came for brunch on a Sunday. We had a little bit of a wait but the place is pretty small so I expected it. When we were sat down, all the staff was very nice and friendly. Even though it is a small restaurant with few tables, it did take a very long time for us to get our meal. I ordered a scramble and my husband ordered a sandwich so I don't think it was our order that held things up. If I could give a minus I would. I ordered eggs Benedict. There was only a drizzle of hollandaise sauce. The egg yolks were hard and over cooked. My butter knife could not cut thru the ham. It had the texture of jerky. I could only eat a few bites. The cost was 17 dollars for this inedible meal. By the way the fruit was excellent. We got a to go container and took the meal home and fed it to the dog. Sadly I grew up eating at this place thru a few owners and none of them would serve a dish like this. Our waiter was the owner a surly man who took our order and delivered the food. Never came by to check on us. I hate to be so negative but that is the vibe now. Victor was our server and we enjoyed hearing about the restaurant's transition from venerable Lafayette landmark to what it is today. Even though I loved the old Millie's, I wanted to give them a try under new ownership. To start, we were greeted with exceptional service and respect, the staff was very friendly and attentive. We waited a little and we're sat inside. The inside was updated so the ambiance was nice. We then ordered our food shortly after, and received our food in a timely manner. After beginning to eat our food, we noticed that on the grilled cheese, it was overly oily and the cheese was not melted. It lacked flavor, but the bread was good. The chicken sandwich had little to no meat, and the texture of the breading was almost like sand paper. BUT the truffle fries were absolutely delicious! We did finish our food because we were really hungry, but I wish we had chose other options. The breakfast looked delicious and I would love to come back to try their French toast. Prices are still good but higher than before, and our omelettes had a slight "burnt pan" taste to them - my steak omelette had about 3 strips of steak inside. Got our bread choice wrong as well. My chai latte was pretty much just a glass of hot foamed milk, and the server felt very rushed. Very happy they kept the coffee cake around - it was the highlight of the meal and felt like home. This place should change its name. It is no longer Millie's Kitchen. Before the pandemic, I went here for brunch on a regular basis, for more than 10 years. We went here with my friends and our toddlers today and we felt so unwelcome. (It was a friendly place before) The new owner looked annoyed mostly from the moment we got to the front door of the restaurant until we left. Now seeing the recent reviews, I agree. The person who served us was way nicer. Food wasn't the same either... super disappointing overall.
