I know the owners are trying hard to make it feel like home for everyone, and the patio space will be wonderful as the weather warms up. If you have even the slightest idea of what quality food is then you'll avoid this place. Everything is plain and dry, bedsides there soggy fried chicken on their eggs Bennie. Not to mention enough sauce to bathe a ant. I had to lace this thing with hot sauce and it's still gross.The bfast sandwich was basically two buns with a bite of ham and egg on it. This morning was our first visit to the new site for AK. Other than the physical surroundings, nothing too much has changed. The menu is very diverse for both breakfast (all day) and lunch (after 11:00!) and the portions large and very reasonably priced. Service was terrific. One of the owners even recognized us from their previous location after almost a year and we received a very friendly greeting. We had the Patty Melt and the BLLT, which were both delicious and large enough to require us to bring half of each sandwich home for dinner tonight. You can't beat that for value! The inside dining area is a bit small with chairs for about 36 patrons, so a wait may be involved depending on the level of business at the time - it's worth it. read more

Entering the restaurant the host, manager owner or whoever asked us to wait outside, granted there were literally two tables occupied ( put my name on the list) party of 2 and NO ONE ELSE WAITING... no prob that's fine can't multitask??? There is parking lot/patio seating which I thought cool we can dine outside in the sun! Well not so fast, stuck us in the shade at the front door in the waiting area...I asked would you mind if we either dine in the other patio ( 8-10 tables available) or inside! The person in charge preceded to ask me in a condescending manner " what's wrong with this table?" I said really? Never mind we will go eat elsewhere... So in a nutshell- rude, not hospitable, obviously NOT the legendary MILLIES we all loved, too bad people don't know how to create a culture of community and relationships with guests! Wanted to check out the new Millie's with the understanding that the coffee cake was the only carryover from the former restaurant. Didn't even make it inside before being turned off by the terse and rude behavior of the manger or owner. At no point would I expect the restaurant to have to conform to Millie's Kitchen, and I imagine the manager or owner has had to deal with people frustrated by the changes. That's not on him. What is on him is his response to people. My impression is the manager or owner has become so tired of being compared to a friendlier, probably tastier and certainly less expensive local favorite that he has no patience. It's too bad. And as I'm sure many have said, the new owner(s) should have taken the time to see why Millie's was such a success and followed in those footsteps instead of taking over the property and forcing their own brand of business onto the clientele. But oftentimes those in charge have to big an ego and can't have the humility to try and see things from a different perspective. This weekend's experience made the loss of the original Millie's Kitchen a glaring loss; it's almost depressing that part is the name is used for a place that is so different. My apologies for the lack of specifics as to the menu, but service and the proper treatment of a customer is just as important as the food--I can make my own brunch at home; I go out for the full day experience, and the new Millie's seems to lack severely in the service department. read more

I ordered my favorite, the Traditional Eggs Benedict, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they now come with fresh Country Potatoes and not Hash Browns. My wife and I had breakfast at MAK last weekend. The place has been stripped bare and nicely repainted, but the noise level was very high in this impersonal bare space. Our server approached and was wearing dark sunglasses, a baseball cap, flip flops, and a heavy coat, which was just weird inside on a warm summer day. My wife had eggs Benedict and I ordered corned beef hash. I should have known it was a bad choice when it was served to me in a soup bowl. Somehow a simple dish was made too complicated plus it had a mustard sauce that melted and made a soupy mess of the dish. It was not pleasant to eat, but it was what I ordered. The coffee was nice and strong. We asked for water and the sun glass gal brought us a bottle with 2 plastic cups on top. Ordered food to go. I walked in to pick it up and was greeted by an angry owner. Who yelled at me to wait outside. He never greeted me or asked how he could help me. He was yelling at all the customers coming to get orders. If you don't want to do to go orders then don't offer them. My order was missing all the condiments and no silverware. I had to go back to ask for them. The owner never apologized or thanked me. He could care less. The food is mediocre at best and the owner is a complete ass. Just came back from breakfast at Millie's American Kitchen. It took a few minutes to be seated on the outside deck ( no line, no acknowledgement either). We were seated by the new owner who assured us the food is "much better" than the old Millie's ever was!! Well, he lied. The coffee was terrible for starters. I ordered a "build your own" omlette. It was miniscule ( if they used 3 eggs, they had to be very small eggs and I could barely see the cheddar cheese). We won't even discuss the potatoes that were cold and greasy and filled 3/4 of the plate (they are using full small plates as well). My husband ordered the hash. It did not look appetizing but he said it was edible. The bill was $40.00 (without a tip). We visited the old Millies pretty often....needless to say, we won't be returning to Millie's American Kitchen. read more

What a disappointment! The old Millie's and the old American Kitchen we're among our local favorites, and the new MAK has none of their former qualities. Service was terse and abrupt - just want to get you in, out, and on to the next customers. Wait staff was inadequate and overworked, but bussing staff was everywhere. Food was marginal to poor. English muffin was over-toasted, yet still cold, and just inedible. Actually everything was cold - it didn't take long to deliver, but it was just cold - almost as if the parts are mass produced, then assembled to meet orders. Building got a nice face lift and the new deck looks nice. Too bad we didn't go there to enjoy the architecture. There's a lot they have to fix before we go back. read more

First of all, the name Millie's should be taken out of the restaurant name. The food is NOT the same as the old Millie's Restaurant. When entering this establishment, no staff stops to greet you or ask for proof of vaccination. The walls are bare white, now resembling a hospital. Breakfast is mediocre with heavy amounts of powdered sugar. The coffee is bland and lacks taste. Instead of coffee, it should be called Hot Dishwater. I wish the new owner would keep some of the food the same. The owner's name is Victor. He walks around without a mask and doesn't greet the customers. You might remember that he owned American Kitchen in Lafayette. That restaurant was half decent, but is now boarded up. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger. If you can't make a cheeseburger taste good, go back to the previous menu. The food is either over seasoned or not seasoned at all. One thing is for sure... They can make skinny French fries! Also, the world is in a pandemic now. All chefs and staff should be required to wear masks properly. Masks covering mouth and nose specifically. Nothing like the thought of COVID droplets showering your food before you eat your meal. I'd be willing to come back if there were some serious changes made. The old waitresses were so kind and assertive. The new help needs more training. This is supposed to be a family American food style restaurant. We weren't aware there were new owners! I ordered an omelet. What I got was 2 pieces of bacon with an overhard egg on top with a piece of avocado on top of that, it came with 1 piece of toast (the heel) and cold potatoes. The other omelets were the same way. None of the meat was placed in the eggs or chopped. My son got the salmon eggs Benedict. He said his salmon tasted funny. This is not the Millie's we loved. Our bill was $85 and they charged $8 for an iced coffee. Do yourself a favor, try somewhere else! I ordered the stuffed French toast. The flavor was amazing. It was unfortunately not properly cooked. It was raw, white bread. The outside was slightly browned and other than the outside 1/16 of an inch that was cooked, it was like eating a piece of bread that was pulled right out of the wrapper. My dining partner was also not pleased, but that's their story. The coffee was excellent. As a frequent visitor to the now defunct Millie's over the last two decades, almost daily during the week, I went there yesterday and was taken aback by the cheesy attempt to modernize the charming old restaurant. First you are struck by the garish, dark laminated wood floor. So much for charm. Then you are led to a wobbly, obviously repurposed table. The walls are bare. It feels like an institution of some sort. The food was poorly cooked. Ordered french toast and it was not saturated with the normal egg treatment. Then I specified 'crisp' bacon. What I got was far from crisp. I was in a hurry, so I did not send it back but it was a clear indication that the cooks were inept. Lastly, they set up an outdoor patio. As pandemic rules loosened and Eva tried to keep Millie's afloat, she put some tents in the parking lot for outdoor eating. The noise from the adjacent freeway was simply awful. We went here today and loved our experience! We prefer the new establishment to the old Millies. It's nice to see such an extensive breakfast menu with so many options. I hope they keep it that way. So many breakfast places have about six items on their menu and that's it. Service was fantastic and friendly. Coffee and espresso drinks were nice and strong, the way we like. I was excited to try the new Millie's American kitchen, after seeing that American kitchen from downtown Lafayette had taken over the space. Ambience was way better than the old millies and the service was good, But the food was very disappointing. Potatoes way overcooked ( like the starch turned into plastic) on one side, somewhat uncooked on the other side, Pancake batter was so dense you couldn't easily cut the pancakes with a fork, like they were rubber. The potatoes were devoid of any type of seasoning. My corn beef hash was tough and it seemed like they poached the potatoes with the corned beef and those were mushy. Odd pickled peppers in the mix. Mine had an odd mustard sauce on it which didn't go together with the potatoes or the eggs at all. Benedict was dry and skimped on the hollandaise. Owner said they are just starting up so I'll give it another try after a few months. read more

Such a great place to eat. We always feel so welcome and watching the other patrons it seems we are not alone. The service is spot on every time. Today we went a little later and decided on the lunch menu instead of breakfast. My husband has ordered the hamburger previously and really enjoyed it saying it one of the best hamburgers around so I decided to give it a try today. I was not disappointed. Making to my taste with the way it's cooked, toppings and condiments really made it incredibly delicious. Their fries are addictive making it hard not to finish them. My husband ordered Joe's Spicy Chicken Sandwich with Truffle Fries. He was very impressed and didn't leave any leftovers. What a great experience today. Never are we disappointed. American Kitchen is one of my family's favorite spots. The food is delicious, and the owners, Victor and Aimee, are good people. We love the fried chicken sandwich, veggie burger, and mac and cheese the most, but everything we've tried has been fresh and flavorful. It kind of feels like the food we'd eat at home if we had the time and energy to cook. The owners and staff feel like family or neighbors. When my kids were babies, everyone would coo over them. The feel of the place was that of a small town diner. It was authentic. It was also the last restaurant in Lafayette where you could get a simple breakfast, sandwich, burger or salad. The new Millie's is like every other overpriced restaurant in Lafayette. They all try too hard to be "special." Went to the new Millie's today and had a burger, fries, and soda. After taxes and tip I paid over $23. The ambiance was farm house chic, between sterile and funky. I won't be going back. What Lafayette really needs is a place to go that serves simple items and decent prices. A plain grilled sandwich anywhere? Maybe simple scrambled eggs and toast? read more
