Proceed at your own risk, as the vegetable dyes and hand knotted wool can be irreparably damaged by the wrong technique and/or chemicals. I'd done quite a bit of research before settling on Artistic Associates oriental rug cleaners. My first try (like many people) was the "other" Sacramento rug cleaning place. By far the cheapest, I didn't feel comfortable with their cleaning techniques, nor with the less-than-stellar reviews. Another local company appears quite competent, but I just couldn't pull the trigger based on their $400+ estimate. Here's the price range I found for cleaning our 8x10.5 rug: $125-$450. At $250, Artistic Associates oriental rug cleaning was right in the middle, but several discussions with the owner, Marion, made me feel this was the right place. Their cleaning process is thorough, effective and gentle. Nominal pickup/delivery fee got me a professional team with a trailer doing all the heavy lifting.
