We were in town for a soccer tournament and wanted some dinner that would be good quality and not break the bank. We got a table right away without waiting on a Saturday night at 7:30. My daughter got pancakes (breakfast served all day) and my wife got an omelet. My daughter laughed when she saw the pancakes, they were huge!!!! I got the flat steak which was great. We actually returned the next day for a potato for lunch for my daughter to get some good carbs before soccer. The waitress was friendly as well. Apparently I like this place better than most. We stop here on the way back/to San Diego. Desserts are good, breakfasts are good and I've had a few really good sandwiches (pastrami and turkey). They serve breakfast all day which is great because I'll eat an omelette for dinner. I understand some people find it a bit pricey, but it seems right for a deli. This isn't any Langer's Deli or Katz Deli...that is fo sure... PASTRAMI SANDIE with Provolone cheese, Russian Dressing and Coleslaw. The meat is super thin machine cut (not hand sliced) which isn't a good start. The size is slightly above average. The taste is fine and plenty edible but not noteworthy. Katz is the king. Langer's is the queen. And this may be the joker. The SPLIT PEA SOUP is a nice portion and thick and good. However, the fact that that this is a Jewish entity and thus no cubed smoky pork is inside makes it less tasty. The MENU is pretty huge so you shouldn't have trouble finding something of interest. The COFFEE is pretty good and is brewed bold. I like the diner ambiance inside with super high ceilings. This place is all about Quality, and yes, you pay for it. It's a legit Jewish deli. It's also a prime piece of commercial real estate in Del Mar, so what do you expect? I prefer to just shop at the deli; you can buy a pound of the finest corned beef you've ever tasted for about the same price as a sandwich from the restaurant. The people working here have been consistently friendly & helpful too. Don't be scared off by some of these reviews if you want to try for some really exceptional food. They get bonus points for the paper tablecloth you can draw on and the tasty complimentary bread. *The hostess told us that in honor of national chicken soup day, said menu item would be 1/2 priced. It was the only reason my GF ordered it. It was full price on our bill and our humorless waiter told us (upon us telling him about the hostess) that she, "[didn't know what she was talking about]." He wasn't apologetic, just all "no." He finally came back with the soup discounted for LESS than 50% without so much as a smile and I'm sorry our hostess lied to you or that's our problem, not yours. Unless you live in NYC or Florida, you can't get deli this good! Living in the Pacific Northwest is great except there aren't any good kosher delis ANYWHERE in Oregon. But they have changed their menu and now we can't get some our our favorites (Reuben Rolls, Crabcake salad, and some others) AND they have reduced their portion sizes while raising prices. I have stopped here 5-6 times over multiple years when in San Diego. Usually for breakfast or early lunch. The service is hit or miss. Our most recent visit it was very poor (worst service of our 10 days in San Diego). I am not likely to return after this last visit. Both were well prepared but didn't exhibit the personality of many other C&W's I've had, and the same goes for the coffee. The food is pretty good, but pretty pricey. Sandwiches range from $12 to $20+. The sandwiches are tasty, but difficult to eat because they fall apart. The sandwiches come with a side of cole slaw, potato salad, or pasta salad. I had the potato salad and it was mediocre. It was kind of disappointing that the sandwiches didn't come with fries. The staff is friendly, but a little forgetful. You sometimes have to ask for things twice. The atmosphere is okay. The high ceilings and photos are nice, but the building is very loud. We could barely hear our waitress. The customers are mostly old white people in shorts. The tables are covered in butcher paper and have crayons for the kids to draw on the paper. read more

This 5 Star rating is based on customer service. I stopped by on Thanksgiving while I was on my way up to Orange County. I had ingredients in tow to make at my relative's house, but I realized 30 minutes into my drive that I forgot one important ingredient for the dish I was making: shredded swiss. Luckily with some quick thinking I exited and was glad they were open. In comes the counter person who helped me, Liban. I ordered and asked for the 1/2 lb of cheese not sliced, and realized I wasn't sure if my cousin even had a cheese grater at the house. So I made an odd request if they had a cheese shredder on hand. Liban disappeared to the kitchen for a bit and out he comes with it shredded. He told me he did it "the old fashioned way". I appreciate him going above and beyond for doing that for me! P.S. We had the greatest lunch at Miltons. Traveling with two families with young children dining out isn't always the most pleasurable experience but Miltons was just that! From a large menu of selections for all including kids, to the coloring on table, fuseball, and kids menu activities. But what really made our experience was the customer service. Shannon who came to check on our table was lovely and fun and whisked our boys away to the cookie counter. She was personable and made our experience very memorable.
