Part of coming here is enjoying a part of North Dallas history, as this place is one of is not the first Chinese owned businesses to set foot in the area-- it was founded way back in 1984. The other part is getting a great haircut! Both those pieces come together and explain how this salon is able to gain a loyal, longstanding, and ever-growing clientele. I am extremely pleased with my haircut and the amount of time and care that was put into it. I have long, thick hair and the cut was only $20! I got long layers with face framing bangs and throughout the cut, the hairdresser was checking with me to see if I was happy with the length she was about to cut before proceeding. My hair is now much healthier than it was before, and I'm pleased that I was able to keep all the length while losing all my split ends and uneven growth. I will say that if you are in a rush, you will need to communicate that so your hairdresser can accommodate. My haircut took about an hour, as she periodically checked to see if everything was even and if anything needed to be thinned out, especially after blowdrying smooth. Tl;dr great haircut, extremely affordable price for what you're getting. They accept walk-ins and are very accessible on the phone if you need to ask if there'll be wait time. read more

I went for a hair cut ($20 for long hair) and deep conditioning ($30) and had a great experience. Angie was my stylist, and she was super nice and attentive. I went a little late that day, yet she did not rush and still spent like a lot of time on my hair. I can tell that she takes her job seriously and really cares about customer's satisfaction, and I really appreciate that. First time, I got my hair cut by Ann! She nailed it! Definitely what I was looking for my hair but at a cheap price and good care! Walk in welcome if you don't mind to wait. However, the second time there was completely different. I got another woman cut my hair. She said my hair is too thick and then she handled it in rush, careless, like she just wants to finish with me to turn to another customer. She cut it in only about 15 minutes without checking if I'm feel satisfied with it. I gave 5 stars to Ann and 1 star to the second woman so now it is three as an average. read more

Long time to write this review. Had my hair dyed purple back in November and it started to fade within a few days. Not because I showered too much, I took proper care of it. Waiting a few days etc. but within a week it was ratty looking. Charged me over $300 for it and it didn't even last. Also after posting this review I received a rather rude text. I went here based on Yelp reviews and they were spot on. Don't let the location fool you, these ladies know what they are doing when it comes to men, women, and children's haircuts. I'm a no frills, no thrills kind of person when it comes to getting my haircut. I don't need you to spend hours washing, cutting and styling my hair. Just give me want and send me on my merry little way, and that's exactly what I got at Mimi's Salon. My hair was already clean (no shampoo needed), but Judy wet my hair to make it easier to cut. She then asked how I wanted my haircut (should length, texture, and to take some of the weight off), and with a precision to detail she gave me exactly what I asked for!! A quick blow dry, I paid ($21+tip), and then I was out the door with a perfect haircut. The salon was easy to find, parking was easy, and Judy was so kind and attention detailed. MIMI'S IS GREAT! They always pick up the phone and even if you don't speak Chinese, they can easily handle english with you. With long hours and good prices, it's the best place around. My entire family (cousins and nephews too) has been going for years and ANN has cut all of our haircuts. She's fluent in English and Vietnamese and will give you the most modern cut or whatever you ask for. She's very charming and nice and I've always had her cut my hair, despite the many different hairstyles I've had over the years. Even after I've gone to college in California, I still wait for Ann to cut my hair every time I come home. Try to call ahead to get an appointment if you want Ann because she doesn't work everyday. Very good price for such great haircuts from their entire staff (I've gotten haircuts from Judy too and they were also great but she isn't as fluent in english) Men's haircut is anywhere from $11-14. OH EM GEEEEEE! Yass Queen! My hair was so long, and heavy and just UGH. Walked in on a Tues at 1130 looking like a sheep dog, walked out at 1158 feeling FABULOUS! Derek was ahmazing. I went there last week after reading so many good reviews about that place! Place is small but clean and nice. I don't trust people with my hair but I wanted to give it a try and needed a hair cut badly so I scheduled an appointment with Angie! I explained her how I wanted my hair and showed her the picture of bangs too that I wanted. She listened to me and trimmed my hair just how I wanted it then she said I will have to do deep conditioning first then cut your bangs we went for that and then after deep conditioning she started cutting my bangs and her another client came so she started rushing me and just cut my one side bangs and said okay that's it I was like no I need my other side cut too then she cut the bangs on other side too but honestly that time I was like ok it's cool but that not how I wanted my bangs to be! For my styling she told someone else to do it, that girl didn't even use any heat protector and started curling my hair even tho all I asked for was a nice blow dry. well long story short everyone was nice even the owner but my experience w my hair wasn't good! And deep conditioning was super bad! 2 stars are for the customer service! Not going back there tho! read more

I was able to get an appointment quickly however I wish I hadn't. It took over 1.5 hours and the lady butchered my hair. I just asked for a simple all one length cut. My hair is way shorter than I asked for and not even at all. I kept showing her the different lengths and she kept trying to tell me it was the same when there was like half an inch difference. I think I could have done better myself. I didn't see a flat iron or curling iron and they didn't style my hair. I was told to go home and style it and come back and she would fix the cut. Yeah right if I go back I'll probably leave bald. Also I was charged full price for this. I would give negative stars if I could. This is the worst haircut I've ever gotten by far. read more

Both me and my boyfriend are regulars here as the service is always quick and the price is always cheaper than other "fancy" salons. The ladies here are great at cutting and styling both men and women's hair. Don't let the appearance of the place on the outside and the inside fool you! Although their clientele are predominantly asian as it is located in small china town, many other ethnicities frequent here as well. Definitely try this place out. Judy is very friendly and tries her best to speak English even though it isn't her first language. The haircut was great, and she isn't afraid to give her own opinion on what would look good on you. She really pays attention to your hair and I stopped paying attention to my hair because every time I noticed something that I didn't like, she'd fix it without me even indicating it was an issue because clearly the cut was still a work in progress. I'm coming here every time I need a haircut because they always turn out great and my haircuts here are competitively priced. For context, the cut I usually go for is a short cut on the sides, rounded high, with the ever-popular side line separating a long but thinned out cut on the top. Keeps me from looking too much like a slob without requiring a lot of maintenance and upkeep, and the cut has longevity, too. The environment is acceptable, just be comfortable with not understanding everything they say and facing some language barriers. $10 men's haircut on Tuesday is an unbeatable deal. I got a great haircut for a steal. They take a lot of time to pay attention to detail and they don't get complacent. There were several times that I thought the haircut was done, but the stylist wasn't satisfied with her own work, so she kept fixing it until it was up to her standards. I expected a normal haircut, maybe even a crappy one for $10, but instead I got an exceptional one, and I will be back. read more

Have you ever mowed the lawn or washed your mop? If you have, I challenge you to the next level of cleaning --- trimming up that pile of stuff on MY HEAD. I applaud Mimi's effort in successfully delivering a haircut that I am not afraid to walk out in the open sun with for the next 2 months :) Came to Mimi's salon for a quick and much needed haircut (gotta look fresh on a daily basis!) and had a good time. First and foremost, my haircut lady (Judy? She was this older woman) was very nice and meticulous in her work. After telling her my "usual" haircut ("can you pls just give me a 2 on the sides and scissor off maybe an inch or 2 on top? thx"), she proceeded to very carefully comb through my hair and work through the cut. Unlike places I've been to where they instantly transform my head to what feels like a buzzed sheep-skin, she slowly scissored centimeters off and would regularly step back to observe my head from a distance. Thank you. Also, she was the first person ever to explain to me about my head/hair! I've always known I have a strangely shaped head (gotta blame the aliens who probed my head :P), but she's the first to talk to me about how to deal with my hair in such a way that my head doesn't look like a pine cone :D. Then, she pulled out this book with a bunch of diff "popular" asian hairstyles and tried to convince me for a very long time (in gentle Mandarin Chinese) to re-style my hair for a new look(what she would call "kuan3se4", which I think means "style"). I replied mostly with "yes", "ok", and smiles, but she was certainly very passionate (and vocal) about her opinion, which I actually appreciated! #transformationTuesdays?? After the haircut, she washed my head and shampooed (felt so good), all the while informing more about how to take care of my new look. All this for only $14 (+tip)! What a steal! I had to give her good tip for 1) her dedication 2) compensation for having to deal with my hair haha I'm pleased, and would recommend this place to all Asian dudes out there! There is hope, don't settle for the buzzcut or the bowlcut, boys! read more
