We dined in today for Mother's Day. It was very busy, which is expected because it is a holiday. The host in the front were so kind and sweet assuring us that we would be seated. Its tough to downgrade a restaurant that used to be a standard for reliable food, but they have written their own epitaph. What was once cuisine that was tasty and carefully crafted is now simply non-descript, poorly executed food. Where did they go wrong? In an effort to bring their menu back to a French bistro feel, a few years back they changed their menu and recipes, eliminating some of their best menu choices because "they weren't French sounding". It didn't affect us that much because we were not frequenting them after the change for several years. But this year, we made an attempt to renew our friendship. Their basket of baguettes and petite carrot loaves was still a nice touch for starters. Where we first noticed it was going south was their cutting their whipped butter with margarine. The Mimi's chain seem to have a love affair with margarine and vile tasting, artificially flavored cooking fats. Their sauteed vegetables are all cooked in it, and most recently, my Tuscan chicken dish (touted as a "Mimi's favorite") was swimming in a "French-inspired" sauce that screamed of artificial flavoring. Anybody in Corporate ever hear of olive oil? We have eaten there at least 3 times in recent history, hoping that we were wrong, that our poor quality meals were a fluke. Each time we ended up sending much of the food back. Their efforts to re-cook our dishes were in vain. Their apologies were hollow. Mediterranean Salad with Roasted Chicken - I was not impressed with the chicken. Overcooked. The menu indicated there were artichokes mixed with the greens. Laughable. There were a few mini leaves (no hearts) that reminded me of how many I would get if I already had emptied out the can; I believe they used an set of tweezers to populate this salad. Tuscan Style Grilled Chicken - The chicken breast was an insult, gross overcooking in spite of my strict instructions not to. Also disappointing, the same issue with minuscule particles of artichokes, or should I have brought a magnifying glass to locate them? This was the dish that also had the disgusting artificial tasting sauce. At least they dared not to infer a buttery content. Roasted half Chicken - Again, grossly overcooked and unpalatable unless you love chicken jerky. Liver and Onions - Yep, overcooked. The only part of this dish that was edible was the two paper-thin slices of crisp bacon. Call us a glutton for punishment, but we tried this on 2 separate occasions. Mimi's Ribeye Steak with herbes de Provence butter - Of course, overcooked. Every time. Their "10 oz" steak is very thinly cut ( I would dare to say it is also suspect for its actual weight), making it nearly impossible to cook to the requested temperature. Provence Butter, it's not, certifiably artificial. Stop calling it butter, for chrissake! And then there is the feedback from the daughter who used to love their corn chowder. Guess what? Not the same, not good. Mimi's. Try again. You can be as cute as a button visually, but if you continue to serve this kind of food, I can guarantee you I will never return in spite of your offers to give me a great deal on your muffins. You will probably hear a great relief from the managers who, to their credit, come over to see what the problem is, but apparently have no clue of what the kitchen dares to put out. read more

Decent food for a franchise cafe. My friend was raving about the French onion soup so that's what we came for, as well as the notorious muffins. We also ordered and shared the quiche with potatoes. Concerning covid, it seems like the staff is keeping everything sanitized. I like the patio area since there is open air, otherwise I wouldn't have ate there. The customer service, our waiter, was very kind and all around great. The buttermilk spice muffin was dry, the blueberry was average, and my friend said that the carrot raisin was really good. Went for Mother's Day brunch with a 12pm reservation. I booked it almost a week in advance. Got told it was an hour wait even with a reservation. Nope. Two+ hour wait and then they skipped over my party and started sitting other people with later reservation times. I get it is one of the busiest holidays, but we told the bartender and the host and another woman who worked there our parties name and where we were sitting for when they call us. They lied about calling us because even the bartender said they didn't. We went to the booth to ask if they called us literally several times and each time they said no. I found out they sat a party the same size as us with a later reservation before us when I was in the restroom, almost 45 minutes before we got sat. Restroom was packed and people were asking each other about their reservation info. We did not get food until around 2:30.m. They did not even a want to sit us until I sent my husband over because they were sitting other people since they skipped us. Insane and I will never come back it was a nightmare. I don't understand why they allow walk-ins plus reservations if the staff can't handle the insane amount of people. I mean we had a handicapped person with chronic pain and a pregnant woman in our party standing around for over 2 hours. read more

My husband and I visited the Corona location yesterday afternoon...... as we often do, and was very disappointed with our food this time. My muffin was cold And the portion size of our food was like a kids meal I thought to myself "maybe their cutting down on food because of the wage increase " but when I see the waitress bringing food to the table next to ours and they had a full plate of food I realize that wasn't the case. I brought it to our waitresses attention and she nodded her head in agreement with me and took $4 off our bill.... Needing to eat a healthy meal, I chose Mimi's Cafe today. I wasn't excited about my food but I wasn't disappointed either. The grilled salmon was good and the broccoli was steamed almost perfectly but the rice was described as brown with quinoa and it fell short of my expectations. My server left a sour taste in my mouth with his dry efforts but I tipped him accordingly. I used to frequent Mimi's but not so much anymore. It will be a minute, but maybe next time. read more
