***This Mimi's features consistently strong service and warm and tasty muffins, but a lot of their breakfast items are just okay; Mimi's Cafe has recently been overhauled to be more French-like; I am not sure yet if this is going to result in significantly better food*** Mimi's Cafe is a family-oriented, homestyle breakfast and lunch restaurant that is similar to Marie Calendar's in California or Bob Evans in the midwest. To me, Mimi's feels more like a breakfast place than a restaurant you would go to for dinner, but if you read about the history of Mimi's, you will see that its original inspiration was French food. That being said, it has never really felt that French to me. There are a few French staples here and there like French onion soup, but a lot of the cuisine feels homestyle American cuisine to me. Mimi's Cafe has recently undergone an ownership change though and the menu has been completely overhauled. They have kept a lot of Mimi's longstanding signature items to appease their many regulars, but French items are all over the menu now. For breakfast, they now offer pain au chocolat as well as Croque Madame-themed items. For lunch, you can get a nicoise salad, bouillabaise and a Croque Madame. For dinner, you will find mussels and coq au vin. I have not been for lunch or dinner (at the old Mimi's or the recently revamped Mimi's), but I have been for breakfast quite a few times. Their breakfast items like their quiche, brioche French toast and eggs benedict are all okay but nothing spectacular. Their muffins though are nicely warm and they feature a wide variety of them as well as seasonal flavors like pumpkin in the fall. Service is consistently good here--very friendly servers that are polite, professional and very attentive (necessary for a restaurant with a lot of regulars). The decor and seating is very family chain style restaurant--comfortable though it is very similar to all the other homestyle chains out there. Prices are not bad. You can get out of here without spending too much money and they have specials every now and again. Mimi's is an okay breakfast spot. The food seems to be consistently okay here. The food is better sometimes than others, but you never really get very poorly prepared breakfast food or cold food here (and sometimes they poach the eggs in the eggs benedict very nicely). Overall, it is not a bad spot for breakfast though you will probably not find anything really delicious or exciting here (the muffins might be their most satisfying items). If you do come here for breakfast on weekends, make sure you get here early. Otherwise, you might be in for a long wait. This Mimi's is part of a retail plaza that has its own free parking lot. My family came here for the thanksgiving dinner today. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. They had the traditional Thanksgiving dinner with a choice of dark, white or combination of turkey meat. A choice of soups (I think it was French onion, Corn chowder, and a couple of other type of soup). A choice of pies (I think the choices were pecan or pumpkin pie. Each plate had stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, and green beans in a sauce mixture. They also gave you gravy and cranberry sauce for your meal. The thanksgiving meal was $19. Everything was very good. I couldn't eat it all and had to take some home with me. They had a full house and were able to serve us quickly. All of the servers were pleasant and nice to us and every one of our needs. Since they had so many people at their restaurant, that they sat us at fold up tables. It was allright, but it was kind of hard to get around because our seats were backed up right next to the people behind us. My brother has a new diet where he needs to eat gluten free because of a health condition of his. They did not have a gluten free menu for him. The server told him that the only thing that is gluten free is the turkey meat. He ordered the turkey meal and just ate what he thought had the least amount of gluten in it. I ordered a diet coke. The server was going to refill my drink and asked me what kind of drink I had. I told her that I had a diet Coke. Then she handed me a new drink and it was a regular non diet Coke. I could tell by the taste that it was sugared Coke. I am not diabetic, but it may have been a problem for a diabetic. Overall we had a very good time and really enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner. Dear Lord-does anyone care about the food being served or the SERVICE?? My friend and I decided to have a late lunch or early dinner ---call it what you may, we wanted to avoid the rush. We got there at 2:30"isn" BAD IDEA---some stuff must be sitting around from LUNCH! We were seated immediately=both the parking lot and the restaurant were empty--maybe people at 3 to 4 tables MAXIMUM. The house wine is $5.00 a glass so we each ordered one- not too bad--it was at least cold. 1. Ordered calamari as a starter - I have never seen calamari where every piece was exactly the SAME size. First thing we noticed was the size. Second thing we noticed was a very rough dark brown --VERY dark-as in dried out and burnt coating, sitting in grease. We each tasted one and sent in back. NASTY NASTY! 2. Second order came- I chose not to eat any-it looked the same to me-my friend said at least this was hot. It is served with a warm marinara sauce. I asked for some COLD cocktail sauce. Our server brought us a small container of COLD marinara...exactly the same stuff-but right out of the fridge! 3. We both ordered baked "Chicken under a brick" The chicken was good, the salad was warm, the scalloped potatoes were cold. Sent THEM back! GOOD LORD! 4. Began the day early with my mother and we decided to have breakfast here. Once we arrived, we were seated almost right away, which is a plus. Our server was very kind and patient with us since my mom had a hard time deciding on what to order. After she decided, I ordered their Florentine quiche and my mom order pancakes and eggs (simple I know). The quiche was amazing! I loved it! We visited on the morning of 10/21/2018 with a large party for my Fiances birthday. We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation and to our delight, the table was already waiting for us. Luis was our server and he was very polite and the meal went well. Our food was prepared well and anytime we needed anything Luis was there to provide it. The problem happened when it was time for us to pay our tab. Luis explained that they could only split it a few ways and two couples would need to double up and split their bills between themselves with cash. Okay, not a problem. Well, once we got our checks they were all mixed up and the items were all on the wrong checks. Again, no problem. We wrote down on the receipts what each bill should contain and sent them back with Luis. He again tried and this time they were almost worse. He explained they recently started using a new computer system and was having trouble. We understood and told him to take his time and we would wait. An hour passes and Luis has asked his manager Frances for help. I personally observed her being very rude to Luis, repeatedly telling him that we have our bill, go give it to us. Even when he told her it was incorrect her attitude simply got worse. Frances didn't approach our table to apologize or even attempt to intervene, after all she is the manager and should be able to straiten it out without much problem, right? Instead, I watched her stand behind her little register and give attitude to our server who at this point is sweating and clearly overwhelmed. He was simply trying his best and the system wouldn't allow him to correct it. She was no help and no manager in my opinion. In the end, over an hour later, Luis instructed the last two parties in our group that hadn't been able to get checks to pay what we thought our meal was worth and apologized for the issues. By finding a menu, adding up each cost, factoring tax etc and a tip for Luis we left the restaurant, truly not knowing what happened or if we over payed or didn't pay enough and completely unhappy. The quality of the food was better than the Fountain Valley location in my opinion. The service was much better. We were there for 2+ hours catching up with each other and our waitress didn't try to rush us and kept asking us if we needed refills on our drinks during that time as well. We went to Mimi's with a group of 13 for a family brunch. We were lucky to be promptly seated, though only half our party had arrived. When we sat down, our drink orders were promptly taken. Well, for some reason, the drinks came one or two at a time, if at all...even the waters were forgotten. Our server kept coming back saying the drinks were coming, but as the others in our party arrived, she seemed to become even more confused. My husband and I shared our same glass of water until the person busing our table brought us another. My cousin and I both ordered coffee. We were given one between the two of us. She passed it on to me, and waited a long time for her own. After being there nearly a half hour , with our entire party there for at least 15 minutes, we still didn't get all of our drinks, and our server had not even taken our breakfast order. The room we were in was nearly empty except our group, and our server was looking a bit apathetic as her stand in the corner. Despite the long wait, I like Mimi''s food, and it was the same as any other Mimi's. I ordered the egg white and veggie omelet with a delicious bran muffin. Dropped in on Mother's Day around 6 p.m. for my usual French onion soup, chicken breast, side of pot roast and Caesars salad. This was NOT a very stellar experience for the following reasons: 1. Salad came out un-tossed with just a blob of dressing in the center of the lettuce. What line cook is that lazy? 2. Chicken breast was flat and tiny, NOT anything like the great, plump looking ones in the photo on the menu. 3. Side of pot roast was filled with nasty FAT. 4. No refill on my coffee 5. Mass confusion on the kitchen and my same meal was brought out TWICE. 6. The main reason for my irritation is that after 15+ years of coming to this location and spending $30,000+ on me, my girlfriends and my business clients, the manager informed me (via her assistant) that they would NO longer allow me to order the pot roast as a side as I have been doing for years at the normal $3.79. Only full pot roast dinners will now be allowed. WHAT? It only costs $3.79 for a full pound of chuck roast and I only need a 1/4-pound portion.....a sweet 300% mark-up or 25% food cost. What restaurant is not happy with that?. To alienate a Veteran diabetic customer who does NOT need the mashed or French fried potatoes and Veggies that come with the full meal is crazy to me. In this day of tough restaurant wars and marginal profits, it seems like super poor business to kiss a $30,000 customer goodbye, but with the manager's decision today, that is what she just did!! Its been awhile since ive eaten at Mimi's cafe and typically when I do, its usually for breakfast. Came here the other day with a friend and ordered the beef dip with a ceasar salad as my side. I was really supprise by how good the sandwich was. The bread was nice and chewy and held together well with the au jous and the beef was thinly sliced so that the meat didnt taste rubbery or overcooked. The sandwich did seem a little small but was still enough to keep me full. In the end i was extremely satified with my dish. read more

What a thoroughly disappointing dining experience. It has been quite a while since I have last eaten here, and I guess that probably should have been my first clue that this would not be a pleasurable lunch. Upon entering the restaurant the host turned his back to dig for menus before inquiring how many were in the party. We were then seated quickly. Too quickly it seems for noon on a weekday in an area with many businesses. Once seated we were left alone for quite some time before we were approached regarding a beverage order, while simultaneously being informed that he would not be our server. "Someone else will take your order." He stated. Adding weight to that statement a server finally did approach the table to take our order. No greeting. No introduction of himself. I placed an order for a French Dip sandwich with caramelized onions and mozzarella cheese on a baguette with a house salad. My dining companion ordered a Bacon, blue cheese salad and added on a sliced, grilled chicken breast for an additional $2.50. The seasonal appetizer menu looked good so we decided to try the Deviled Egg sampler. A trio of flavors that arrived with 3 out of the 9 eggs in pieces on the plate, all 3 variations were jumbled on the dish and there was no explanation from the server about what had just been placed before us. Iced tea glasses repeatedly sat empty before we would have to request refills. As well as the server ignoring the empty appetizer dish sitting on the table. When our entrees arrived we tucked in as we were both hungry. I began on the green salad which was sparingly dressed with Blue Cheese dressing, only to discover that it was warm. Immediately I thought that the salad had been plated on a warm plate straight from under a heat lamp. But I quickly discovered that it must have been played before the hot sandwich and heat lamp as there were lettuce leaves beneath the sandwich. The sandwich was no less disappointing. The sliced beef was obviously a processed meat product rather than the fresh that the menu promised and there was more sautéed onion as opposed to caramelized onion than there was meat. The cheese was primarily on one half of the sandwich. I've got to say it will be a long time before I return, if at all. read more

Multiple times we visited this location due to food being good. One day I decided place a to go order for my work pot luck for 5:30 pm pick up. Person who took my order gladly guaranteed of my preferred pick up time. Hubby showed up on time to pick up, was told no order was placed but if he can wait half hour it will be done. 45 minutes after order is ready. :( Fast forward 1 1/2 month I placed another to go order (another work pot luck) only this time lesson learned we asked for assurance that the order be ready by 5:30 pm. To my disgust order was nowhere near ready come pick up time, their excuse "oh we dont want the food to get cold so we prep them as soon as the picker walks in"...hhmm so all customers request of specific time of pick up meant nothing to this location's management. I mentioned good food (not outstandingly good food) coupled with bad customer service I just made my final transaction with Mimi's Cafe Corona. What a joke! New menu is so so. The place was empty. The service was slow. We waited 40 minutes for our food. They brought out all four dishes about 3-5 minutes apart. She then recommended items on the menu and helped us decide what is worth trying. The food came out in 15 minutes and was very flavorful and filling. I feel when it comes to chain restaurants, my review is more on the experience, since we already know what the food is all about. When we arrive we are seated immediately, great, I'd rather sit in the lobby and wait, then at the table for 10 minutes with ants in my pants wondering when I will get my diet coke and the bread that is going to take away my feeling of starvation! Are waitress seemed.....slow, when a different waitress brought us our drinks, she warned us that our waitress is training.... DON"T TELL ME THAT I! I am so going to judge her and criticize her lack of performance now! Geesh! It is unfortunate that she lived up to the criticism...=(. Came here for some brunch on Sunday with the family. Pretty simple, it's a nice restaurant with a lot to choose from the menu. I just got a regular ham and egg breakfast and everything was fine. Never Again! Service here is terrible! We went here for breakfast on Saturday morning and were seated immediately, but left after 10 minutes. We sat there waiting for our server and no one even came by to say, "I'll be right with you" or anything. They literally just ignored us. It's not like the restaurant was even busy. There were only three other tables with customers in our area and the restaurant wasn't very busy at all. We routinely visit this Mimi's when we want to get away from it all & enjoy a nice, quiet meal. The staff has always been very friendly & accommodating. Yesterday's waitress had us "figured out", after about 10 seconds and made the dining experience truly unforgettable. And yes, we ended up with two carry-out boxes because we couldn't finish all of the food. And at the end of the main course, when they ask you "Would you like some dessert?", and you don't want dessert because you can't move from all of the great food, never ask " Well, what do you recommend?". They're going to fly their dessert tray, right under your noses and there is NO WAY that you can refuse. In the football world, we call that either unsportsmenlike conduct or illegal procedure. I was a bit surprised to see such an average rating for a Mimi's café. Not that I'm a huge fan, but it was just a little bit better than the local Denny's. I almost didn't come here. I was greeted and seated right away. The hostess could see that my server was busy, so she offered to get me my drink (coffee). But then I sat there for about seven minutes, and nobody greeted me to take my order. I got up and told the hostess and the manager that nobody had come to my table yet. I was immediately approached by a server took my order and delivered my food exactly as I had ordered it. Hot eggs and ham. Turns out, because the hostess got my coffee for me, all the servers in the restaurant, thought someone else was taking care of me. They were quick to serve me, provided very nice service, with friendly smiles, big apologies, and great food. read more

I like going to breakfast when I'm in America because I live in the UK 90% of the time and rural part at that so the EXTREMELY limited breakfast spots here only serve the Full English variety and I'm a vegetarian. My friend suggested Mimi's because it was the closest option and she likes their mimosas. Apparently she likes them a lot because she confessed that usually she's too tipsy to care what the food tastes like...which explains A LOT. THE GOOD: - Our waitress was friendly, attentive and witty. I left a generous tip because waitressing...sucks (I know, I used to do it!) and not only was she sweet but made my dining experience better with a few laughs. - The young man who greeted us did so warmly with a genuine smile and an almost comical yet somewhat endearingly pronounced 'Bonjour' which I greatly appreciate because as I said before, I know the struggle (I also know how little restaurant workers actually get paid stateside too). - The decor is nice. It's got an inviting vibe to it. THE BELOW AVERAGE: - I had the original french toast and my companion had the classic waffles and it was...basic, at best. My french toast was bland, tasted kind of weird and made iHop look like a fine dinning establishment. The waffles tasted like cardboard. - Everything in the fruit cup tasted like dirty/stale water. If they can't get plain waffles and french toast right then I'd hate to even see their more complex dinner items - some of which actually take a fair amount of skill and probably shouldn't be eaten in a chain restaurant with a more than dubious French connection. I'm French so this place to me is about as authentic as going to a fake 50's diner in a strip mall or I guess how Chinese people feel about P.F Changs (except their food has some taste, at least) which I fully expected and wasn't entirely bothered by. Still, a huge pet peeve of mine is when places claim to be 'French inspired' but make GLARINGLY obvious, albeit small grammatical and spelling errors - but this is my neurosis, and didn't actually factor into the rating because that would be fairly idiotic. My family & I randomly decided to come here for breakfast on New Year's Day. To our family Mimi's is just a casual place to grab a quick bite to eat. Nothing fancy, & we nvr go with super high expectations... We usually go when we want something other than Denny's. The food is just ok & we feel the portions are small. But I think that could b becuz we spoiled ourselves by eating at places that serve hugs potions like kickback jacks & Corky's. My wife and I are wondering if it has something to do with the night shift here, since I tend to think of Mimi's as a brunch/lunch place. When I worked in a restaurant, the GM was usually only around during the day. I suspect the night shift here is poorly run, because its always better when I come in for lunch. Received a coupon in the mail today so the family decided to give MiMi's a try. What a huge disappointment! I ordered the New York strip steak medium, it was over cooked & dry. My daughter ordered the Chicken Pot Pie. She said it tasted bland like it was poured out of a can. My grandson who absolutely loves french fries, wouldn't eat the fries or chicken tenders. The fries have to be really bad for my him not to eat them. We were going to order a To-Go plate for my SIL but decided to go to Wendy's to get him a Baconator Burger. While we were there ordered french fries for the little guy and he was so happy & ate them all. I will never go to MiMi's again and if I do shame on me! Total menu change and it isn't a good one. Most entre items are slightly more expensive and come with less food. Muffins do not cone with many of the entre's and you can "add-on" items (bacon/eggs) for a few dollars more. Wow -We normally go to the Tustin location but tonight came to the Corona location to find many changes to include the menu- the rolls which were hard enough you could have broken a window with them not to mention they don't serve their carrot cake magdelines anymore. We were only seated after I called them on the phone after waiting some time in the lobby- reception area. The worst part about our visit was to find they had eliminated so many dishes from the menu. They are a french restaurant and they don't even serve the crepe dish anymore. Mimies was one of the last places you could get a variety of dishes for a reasonable price. Not that any Mimi's is a gourmet experience, but it is a restaurant you used to prefer to something like Denny's or IHOP. We used to come here all the time with no complaints, however the past few times we've been here the food has been sub par. This morning we stopped in for breakfast and the hostess said "we have ONE booth available" located in their patio room. We didn't ask for a booth, so it wasn't as if they were doing us a favor. We sat down and the table was sticky and had powdered sugar from the last diners on it. The room was FULL of families with small children literally running in circles around the tables. We would've rather waited 10 minutes for a table than dine in a playground. I ordered a croissant sandwich with avocado. The avocado was maybe a tablespoon sized chunk and might as well have not even been there. The cheese was greasy and not even melted, I peeled it off with no issues..that's not how cheese should be. I couldn't eat more than half. I honestly would have rather had Jack in the Box. By the end of our meal, our waitress had given us our check by dropping it on the table, saying nothing, and walking away. Long story short, the quality of Mimi's has dropped significantly and is no better than a Denny's or IHOP. You're basically paying more for the same experience. It's a very disappointing thing to see a place devolve like that. We won't be returning. read more
