I want to start by saying they're a breakfast spot and I dined at Mimi's Cafe for dinner unplanned (it was raining and I was nearby.) I decided to try their dinner menu since I've enjoyed their breakfast in the past. Well, their dinner is just not it. I don't recommend it. Also, the bathrooms need major maintenance. Even my six year old mentioned how dirty they were. Anyway, would I go back? Yes, only for breakfast and they should really update and clean their restrooms.

I came here for lunch with a friend. It wasn't too hard to find parking. However, we had to wait for a table since it seems there wasn't too many employees although there were plenty of tables. Service was good although it was a little slow. The seating was a little tight. We ordered the Crab, Shrimp & Bacon Pasta and Chicken Pot Pie. Both were delicious. There was so much pasta that I was stuffed by the time we were done. Very great spot for lunch with great company!

Good value for breakfast. Service is good. Try the buttermilk spice muffin, cut in half and spread butter ooooffffff... soft, buttery and melts in your mouth. Pain Purdue bfast comes w an orange creme French toast w berry toppings; delicious. The orange creme is not overpowering you might not even taste it and this order comes w eggs and a side of protein. The bacon perfect; crunchy but not all over. The ham was thick and juicy everyone's fav right. Ambiance is a French bakery feel. Wait is usually 20 min or less.

Great food and service . Our server Sean was very attentive and pleasant. The great food quality and service is the reason we always return to Mimis Cafe . I have dined at this location for over 25 years and I always have a positive experience. The french onion soup is delicious. All the servers are always outgoing and ready to accommodate my food order if needed . Hold the mayo, etc.. Thank you Mimis for always giving me a pleasant dining experience.

So much food to choose from! I love the seasonal menus too. Love the $7 mimosas and the sweet plates for breakfast. Only one thing to point out, some savory dishes may have a little too much salt for me like the salmon and onion soup. Other than that, the place is very cute inside. Love all the French vibes and service was quick and waiter was kind. Parking can be a bit challenging during busy days but doable.

Pot Roast is not the same anymore. It's more like a Vegetable Beef stew with Mashed Potatoes. I guess that's why they are calling it French Pot Roast The Pot Roast used to be served as a big mountain of Beef that would be so tender that you just pull apart with your fork to eat it. But now the meat is almost shredded and drowned in an overflow of Vegetables and dark gravy. Smaller portion of Beef but the price isn't way over the top. It's a 3 course meal for approximately $30 ... The bread is still the BEST thing ever! The flavor of the Beef and gravy is more bland than it used to be. I noticed the crowd of patrons has even changed. The ambiance reminded me of going to see my grandma in her elderly housing complex. So, it really gave off safe, comfy and grandparent vibes. I love it! Overall, the meal wasn't bad but will NEVER get this again Next time I think I'll get the RibEye

When your best friend and mom finds out that you're going to have a brain surgery , they picks you up and takes you to Mimi's Café for breakfast . There's truly nothing that Mimi's café honey Bran muffin can't fix. OK well maybe not a brain aneurysm but seriously it can fix everything else ! Been a loyal Customer for years just because of that honey bran muffin. All Downey girls love the honey bran muffin.!

It sad to see what Mimi's has become. Stopped by today with a friend for breakfast. We got sat a table that was wet. After about 5 minutes waiting a waiter show up and I asked him to please wipe the table dry. He couldn't hide his attitude as if seating on a wet table was acceptable. We asked for two coffees and he dropped them without leaving napkins or spoons. After a while he came back to take the order and again, gave me attitude for asking for utensils and napkins. We got two roll ups that seemed to have been rolled by a 5 year old, no care about the esthetics or appearance, just a wrinkled napkin probably done by someone who hates their job. Got our food, we ate and when he picked up the plates, I asked him for the check. He took 15 minutes to drop it. I'm so glad Downey has so many other options for dining now, it's time for Mimi's to close it's doors.... read more

I visited this establishment with a party of four based on recommendations from friends. Upon arrival, we were met with an unwelcoming experience. The hostess, Marylyn, had her back turned to us as we entered. After waiting a few minutes, my wife approached her to inquire about seating. She responded with, "Okay, for a party of four," asked for our name, and provided no estimated wait time or further information. She then turned her back to us once again. When my wife followed up to ask how long the wait might be, the only response we received was around 30 minutes after which the hostess again turned away without offering any additional assistance or courtesy. The interaction came across as unprofessional and dismissive, which led us to leave. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we do not plan to return. Bye read more

I ordered the same bowl of corn chowder 3 days apart and the second time I ordered, I got half the size. When I asked the woman about this, she told me they shrunk the soup sizes. I feel like I was lied to because the item I got looks like the cup size of soup. If the bowl was reduced to the cup size, then the cup of soup must be only a few spoonfuls. $10.49 seems crazy for a small cup of soup. The hot chocolate also had little pieces of stuff at the bottom. Not sure what it is but I think it was some sort of plastic. Not ordering from here again. read more

Just heads-up...if you order an extra shot of espresso on their cappuccino, it's going to be $5.29 more, which brings it to over $11 for the drink and over $12 after taxes. Their cappuccino is more like steam milk and not worth ordering without the extra shot. They have absolutely no idea how to price it as it's way more expensive than even Starbucks. read more

I hate to give Mimi's a bad review because I genuinely think their food is pretty good but for the 4th time in a row we order takeout and they either don't have muffins ready or some are not prepared. Part of the reason we order from here is the muffins and the last 3 times we had to settle for toast with our meals. Our experience today was that they were still preparing them and only had a select few, I went with what they had but when I got home they were cold, dry and stale and I'm pretty sure they were yesterday's left over muffins. I don't understand how at 9:30 am they still don't have fresh muffins prepared. read more

Visited on a Father's Day weekend and came in at about lunch time. My family and I were seated pretty fast but our food took a while to come out was the only downside of the visit. food is good! But no where in the menu it says they have limited servings on mimosas and be careful and look at your bill because they tend to charge you more than what it is. From 1-2 pm on Saturday and Sunday's only classics are $7 but they charge you regular price .... Not coming back here tbh.. my own raza be giving attitude and trying to overcharge you ... It's been a while since our last time here. Glad we came back. Everything was top-notch. Food was good and portions. our server did a great job, we will be regulars. This time, I had the pot roast and my wife had a 1/2 soup and sandwich, which had real turkey. not processed presliced stuff . You rarely see that anymore. I was so excited cause I remember it was so tender and had grill marks so it tasted like it had been grilled. But it was beyond disappointing. The food was definitely the highlight! They brought out their house green sauce with fresh bread, and that sauce was SO good. We also tried the Batata Harra, which had a nice kick but was packed with flavor. The *Filet Mignon Sliders with goat cheese** were easily one of my favorites. OMG! The combination was so good. We also ordered the Grilled Filet Mignon Kabob, chicken kabob plate, and steak plate with rice and a side salad. Everything we tried was flavorful and enjoyable. Overall, I had a really good experience here. Great food, good drinks, a nice atmosphere, and quality time with a friend. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu!

Toast has been on my list of places to check out for a couple of years, and a friend put it back on…read moremy radar back in April. Just a couple of weeks ago, my friends and I were considering our options for where to have brunch to celebrate one of our friend's retirement. Toast was one of the names I dropped in the metaphorical hat, and it won the vote of a few. My friends were surprised that I had named a spot I hadn't yet tried since I'm usually the "foodie" of the group. However, another girl in the group who had been here before vouched for it. I'm glad I finally got to try this place this past weekend, and I cannot wait to return! There were so many things on their menu that I wanted to try. A couple of the ladies ordered green chilaquiles, the friend we were celebrating ordered the Spanish Omelet, another woman I'd met that day had the bacon and eggs, another one ordered the Biscuits and grave with a side of bacon that looked perfectly crispy. I wish I had taken pictures of the plates as it all looked so lovely! I didn't even take a picture of my own food haha. I had my eyes on an omelet, one of the Benedicts or the Chicken n Waffle. In the end, the chicken and waffle won. It comes served with a little container of maple syrup with bacon pieces. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The waffle was delicious, though I did request for some extra syrup on the side. To drink, a few ladies ordered mimosas, one ordered an iced caramel coffee, and I ordered the Carajillo. I fell in love with this drink last summer in Mexico and do not often see it on the menu. I love the subtle citrus notes the Licor 43 adds to this espresso drink. It is very similar to an espresso martini, and theirs comes topped with a toasted marshmallow. I honestly wanted to try almost every item in their Tipsy Barista section of their drinks. I'll just have to come back that many more times :) Plenty of parking in the mall lot. It does get pretty packed during peak hours. Fortunately I had called ahead to put our group of 6 down. We went in on Saturday around 11:30. It slowed down a bit while we were eating, but started to get busy again after 1. Otherwise, we might have been forced to honor their 90-minute rule. All in all, a great experience from everyone in our group. No complaints on the wait, service or food. That certainly deserves a toast. Great job, Toast!

I only tried a piece of it without the syrup which I think was a mistake because the kumquat syrup was my friend's favorite. I definitely need to try it again with the syrup. Best for last, mango curd French toast was my favorite! I fell in love with sweetness and tanginess of the mango curd. The French toast was soft and you can taste the butter. I had eagerly anticipated our Mother's Day outing at Mimi's with my one-year-old and extended family. It was meant to be a memorable celebration, a joyful gathering over delicious food. However, our experience at Mimi's was a far cry from what we had hoped for. My sister-in-law had made reservations for our party of 14 at 12:30 pm, yet we were not seated until a full hour later. Disappointingly, there was no acknowledgment of the delay or recognition of our patience during this wait. Once seated, we were greeted by the server after fifteen minutes had passed. To our dismay, we discovered that the meal was a pre-fixe arrangement, a detail overlooked during the reservation process. When we inquired about ordering from the regular menu, our server's response lacked accommodation, cautioning us against making any demanding requests due to the apparent kitchen workload. Our disappointment grew as half of our table remained without water for an extended period. When the food finally arrived at around 2:30 pm--two hours after our reservation time--it was evident that the restaurant was struggling to manage the influx of customers. This delay in service was further exacerbated by the staggered arrival of our meals, with some members of our party receiving their food much later than others. The server attributed this delay to a shortage of clean dishes, a concerning revelation that hinted at inadequate preparation for the busy Mother's Day rush. Adding to our frustration, our desired dessert option was unavailable, a disappointment only exacerbated by the lengthy wait. By the time we received our bill, it was nearly 4pm and our family had been there for over 3.5 hours! The confusion surrounding the managerial staff further compounded our dissatisfaction, as we initially mistook one of the servers for the manager. Although the management attempted to rectify the situation by offering a discount on our bill and providing gift cards for a future visit, the overall experience fell short of our expectations. Mimi's Bistro & Bakery never fails to disappoint, this time it's the service. The new menu is great and has brought us back several times especially the two new fish entrees that feature cod cooked just right. However the twenty minute wait for a table is disappointing especially when a third of the tables in the man dining room are unoccupied and not cleared. Then there was the ten minute wait for a waitress, maybe that why they call them waitresses. She was unfamiliar with the menu which added additional confusion. Our orders took another twenty minutes to get out of the kitchen. All of the above problems and disappointments revolve around indifferent management with a poorly trained and poorly scheduled staff. We only saw one person busing tables. The waitresses had to step in and bus their tables own which took them away from their primary duty of serving customers. This is with at least ten people waiting in the entrance waiting area to be seated. I want to be quick to add we've never had a bad meal at Mimi's but it seems such a shame to see a restaurant with an outstanding menu, priced right, fail because of an inability to deliver their product to a hungry clientele. In summary, Mimi's Bistro & Bakery in Downey is about waiting.. If you got the time to wait and don't mind...you'll experience a great meal properly prepared and reasonably priced. This location, Downey, has to be the worst for Mimi's Cafe. How sad this location ruins the name of the business in whole. The staff are incompenent fools! Asked for Iced Tea the girl brings out Raspberry Iced Tea.. after I finish the Raspberry Iced Tea I ask for regular Iced Tea.. she brings out Raspberry Iced Tea again. SMH! I sat across the kitchen and I noticed the server picking fries off the plate and throwing it somewhere for a good couple minutes.. later she brings that same plate she was picking fries off of and gives it to me. LOL wow. I confront her but she just brushes me off and walks away. When I picked up my sandwhich I noticed the plate was dirty. Hard crusted crap on the plate. I thought it was mustard and I checked the sandwhich but it had no mustard and I also saw some green stuff caked on the plate as well.. couldn't eat.. lost my appetite. F-ing DISGUSTING!!! what the hell is wrong with these people. I should've walked away when I saw the B rating on the window.. but my Grandma loves there French Onion Soup. :0 so we stayed. We've lived in Downey for 30 years and have been going to Mimi"s for about as long as I can remember. Mimi"s was the go-to place for dining back in the days before Downey Landing and Downey Promenade. The menu back then was so much better. They had the best clam chowder and they would serve the bread basket with the carrot raisin cake free of charge. You sat down at a table and bam-- there's a basket of breads unfortunately, however, not only do you not get a complimentary bread basket, you don't get good service either. Back in the days, Mimi"s was packed with an average wait time of 30 minutes. Those days are long gone, just like their clam chowder. We quit going there long ago, with just an occasional visit when we want a cup of French onion soup, which is still as good as it was long ago. We went this evening because we knew there would be no wait. We ordered the French Pot Roast as part of their 3-course meal. It was awful!! The meat was unseasoned and so dry, it tasted old and beefy and the dessert was chocolate molten cake which did not ooze with chocolate and the ice cream had ice crystals sorry, Mimi"s, but even your French onion soup won't entice us to visit again! read more

My recent visit to Mimi's Cafe left me with mixed feelings. Upon entering, we received a warm welcome and were promptly seated. Our server, Jose, stood out as a courteous and attentive individual, even though he appeared slightly overwhelmed. The main issue was the pacing of our meal. After ordering the carrot loaf as a starter, it took a bit longer than expected to arrive, and the main courses were served just three minutes after the bread. This quick turnaround left our small table crowded with food. The noise level in the restaurant was quite high, with the constant clattering of dishes by the bussers adding to the commotion. Additionally, our table was not properly cleaned when we were first seated, which was disappointing. Overall, my experience at Mimi's Cafe was less than satisfying. While the timing of the bread and food arrival was better than initially mentioned, the issues with pacing, the noisy environment, and the table cleanliness still impacted our overall dining experience. I had a really disappointing experience at Mimi's Cafe in Downey. I came in to redeem a birthday reward that clearly stated it could be used "per check" with a purchase. To follow that, I ordered muffins so I was making a purchase. However, the waiter refused to honor the reward and insisted it could only be used with an entrée--even though that requirement was nowhere in the email or fine print. I even showed him the actual reward details, and he still denied it. It's frustrating when a restaurant doesn't honor its own promotions, especially for something meant to make customers feel appreciated on their birthday. The lack of consistency and unwillingness to resolve the issue left a bad impression. I've enjoyed Mimi's in the past, but this experience definitely makes me hesitant to return. I hope management can clarify their policies and better train staff to avoid situations like this read more

It's sad to say but this place does deserve 1 star. So me and my family decided to go out for some desserts on a Sunday evening. We figured we would come here instead of Porto's since Porto's always has a huge line and we were looking for a quick place to be seated. We got here on a Sunday and the greeter said it was only a "10" min await. However, it turned out to be a 20-30min wait and the restaurant wasn't even full, at all. it was obvious they were short on staff, the manager looked bothered. We finally were seated and we ordered our drinks, a wine, hot cocos and a coffee. They took forever to just bring us our drinks. We were confused as to why there were taking forever just to serve us. They didn't have a big selection on dinner or deserts. I won't be going back any time soon. Sorry. Service needs to improve alot. read more

Well let start by saying that this was my second time here but I did not review the first time because their food was not the memorable so I forgot to post my opinion. Thought my second time around would be better, unfortunately for me I was still disappointed. Like the first time their server were courteous and polite however their food was totally bland.I had Tuna sandwhich was ok but I had to add salt. My friend has shrimp and fries the fries seemed like they had been refried they were as hard as rocks. My other Friend provencial salmon salad Oh My that was horrible the Salad was very soggy and the greens were old. Had a taste, as you can tell I didnt like that at all. Oh Mimi's....a few co-workers in hungry fashion decided to give you a go during lunch...we should have reconsidered. First off, I know you are a chain, so with that said, although the food may not rock my world..I expect chain-like excellent and timely service. We completely were ignored for the first 10 minutes standing by the host stand... tsk tsk tsk. Then we just decided to seat ourselves at the bar, thinking 'okay this should be a least faster service... nope, dead slow. I understand the lunch rush, but this was very terrible. I had such a great experience at Mimi's Café in Downey! The food was fresh, delicious, and came out quickly, but what really made the visit memorable was the service. Our server, Tony, was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, and always made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. He had a great attitude and made the whole dining experience so enjoyable. It's not easy to find servers who are both professional and genuinely kind, but Tony definitely stood out. I recently enjoyed a delicious meal at this establishment. I ordered a ham, egg, sausage omelette and a flight of mimosas. Despite requesting no onions, the dish still had onions in it, but I have to admit, it was incredibly tasty. The potatoes were my absolute favorite part of the meal. The mimosas were also delightful, and they came in a nice set up of three for just $13. The ambiance of the place was calm and quiet, which added to the overall enjoyable experience. Today we had some excellent service we ordered liver with onions and mushrooms and that was delicious and for the desser we had some bread pudding... what i observed was a tall mgr.. never seem him before the whole 45m we were there he was talking to other tables asking them how is everithing?? He even told us if there is any issues to talk to him and hell make it right?? My daughter, 10yrs old, and I came in for a mother daughter breakfast. We were greeted by our lovely server Millie. She made ordering easy and fun. Millie checkEd in on us often. My daughter ordered the Belgian waffles and she said "it was delicious!" She also thought they were big and fluffy. I ordered the Santa Fe omelette, my favorite. The eggs are always cooked perfectly and the combination of scallions, cheese and chipotle sauce make every bite delicious. Mimi's cafe is our favorite restaurant especially for breakfast. read more

At its commercial peak in the early 1980s, Sizzler stood astride a $1 billion enterprise that canvassed 740 locations across 40 of the 50 United States. My much beloved Aunt, Auntie Jo, who helped raise me (your favorite Yelp correspondent) was an early and rabid lover of the restaurant she affectionately dubbed "Sizzler's." During her golden years in small town Klamath Falls, OR, a trip to Sizzler was a guaranteed and surefire way to clinch her day. Sheeeeeeit, her week! So when I heard that the Sizzler in Downey had recently reopened following an extensive renovation, it became the must-be venue for today's lunch w/ my lifelong best friend, Mick. While I, reeling from neck spasms, picked at a bowl of (excellent) potato cheddar broccoli soup and a bowl of fresh cut pineapple & honeydew melon, Mick incinerated a quartet of plates plus two bowls worth of buffet fare. Remember Louie Anderson, the cherub-faced, um, rotund comic who usta riff on how he'd personally shut down a trio of AYCE Chinese buffets? Well, what my buddy Mick lacks in Louie's girth, he more than matches the late, great funny man in appetite! I'd accord the spread at Sizzler 3 or 4 stars. While I may not have been overjoyed w/ today's selections, my hesitation to dive in had everything to do w/ my discomfort and nothing to do w/ the offerings. Judging from the expressions on my pal's face plus all of the other midday diners...the buffet must've been serviceable (at minimum). My takeout meal was very good.
