I want to start by saying they're a breakfast spot and I dined at Mimi's Cafe for dinner unplanned (it was raining and I was nearby.) I decided to try their dinner menu since I've enjoyed their breakfast in the past. Well, their dinner is just not it. I don't recommend it. Also, the bathrooms need major maintenance. Even my six year old mentioned how dirty they were. Anyway, would I go back? Yes, only for breakfast and they should really update and clean their restrooms.

I came here for lunch with a friend. It wasn't too hard to find parking. However, we had to wait for a table since it seems there wasn't too many employees although there were plenty of tables. Service was good although it was a little slow. The seating was a little tight. We ordered the Crab, Shrimp & Bacon Pasta and Chicken Pot Pie. Both were delicious. There was so much pasta that I was stuffed by the time we were done. Very great spot for lunch with great company!

Great food and service . Our server Sean was very attentive and pleasant. The great food quality and service is the reason we always return to Mimis Cafe . I have dined at this location for over 25 years and I always have a positive experience. The french onion soup is delicious. All the servers are always outgoing and ready to accommodate my food order if needed . Hold the mayo, etc.. Thank you Mimis for always giving me a pleasant dining experience.

Good value for breakfast. Service is good. Try the buttermilk spice muffin, cut in half and spread butter ooooffffff... soft, buttery and melts in your mouth. Pain Purdue bfast comes w an orange creme French toast w berry toppings; delicious. The orange creme is not overpowering you might not even taste it and this order comes w eggs and a side of protein. The bacon perfect; crunchy but not all over. The ham was thick and juicy everyone's fav right. Ambiance is a French bakery feel. Wait is usually 20 min or less.

So much food to choose from! I love the seasonal menus too. Love the $7 mimosas and the sweet plates for breakfast. Only one thing to point out, some savory dishes may have a little too much salt for me like the salmon and onion soup. Other than that, the place is very cute inside. Love all the French vibes and service was quick and waiter was kind. Parking can be a bit challenging during busy days but doable.

Pot Roast is not the same anymore. It's more like a Vegetable Beef stew with Mashed Potatoes. I guess that's why they are calling it French Pot Roast The Pot Roast used to be served as a big mountain of Beef that would be so tender that you just pull apart with your fork to eat it. But now the meat is almost shredded and drowned in an overflow of Vegetables and dark gravy. Smaller portion of Beef but the price isn't way over the top. It's a 3 course meal for approximately $30 ... The bread is still the BEST thing ever! The flavor of the Beef and gravy is more bland than it used to be. I noticed the crowd of patrons has even changed. The ambiance reminded me of going to see my grandma in her elderly housing complex. So, it really gave off safe, comfy and grandparent vibes. I love it! Overall, the meal wasn't bad but will NEVER get this again Next time I think I'll get the RibEye

When your best friend and mom finds out that you're going to have a brain surgery , they picks you up and takes you to Mimi's Café for breakfast . There's truly nothing that Mimi's café honey Bran muffin can't fix. OK well maybe not a brain aneurysm but seriously it can fix everything else ! Been a loyal Customer for years just because of that honey bran muffin. All Downey girls love the honey bran muffin.!

Have not been here since before pandemic and had been meaning to come since they opened back again. Today was the day came to breakfast with my friend who is my buddy to come to mimis . As soon as we came in we were so happy and the person who served us was Milly. We were both soo happy to be back at our breakfast spot I ordered the stuffed french toast and my friend oatmeal with fruit. The French toast was delicious as always and the servers very nice. I will definitely continue to come Thank You Mimis for opening again!! read more

Worse experience ever , no kind of cleanliness. I understand under staff but the staff has to use the facility. Disgusting if the place to wash your hands is so disgusting you can't wash your hand restroom seems un touched. I walked out I was going to wash it just human Decency Hopefully this will change I would always come here but mow I will never forget my new experience. Band from my book read more

I just love this place ! I used to go to the one in Los Feliz and I liked it a lot! But I drive to Downey to Mimis in Firestone Blvd because the food, ambiance is just great but what makes so special and lovely is the amazing service, specially Juan ! boss decided to take me here for dinner. reason one is that the is right next to out hotel, reason 2 he is a creature of habit and when ever he comes to this part of CA he comes here for dinner. he had the salmon frites and it looked very good. I had the steak frites and it was very good. the steak was cooked to the way I liked it and was topped with a nice chive butter which melted perfectly into the steak, I was very happy with my food. read more

I have been going to Mimi's in the Firestone, Downey location for some time now. The breakfast is amazing and I have usually had amazing servers. However, when my family and I went out for a birthday dinner and our waitress was extremely rude for no reason! My family and I were patient and spoke to her with respect but she kept giving us snarky remarks over getting us refills. She would say "I already got you a refill but okay I guess I'll get you another one" and when she asked if all of our plates had arrived, I said mine hadn't and she says "Well yeah I can't carry all the plates or do you want me to drop it?" Completely unprofessional!! We were all uncomfortable and did not leave a tip. And she literally ran out the establishment, pointing out how we "forgot" to leave her a tip. Unbelievable. I myself work in customer service and cannot believe this waitress still has a job. I was not able to get this woman's name. She was an older lady in her mid to early 40's, reddish brown hair up in a pony tail, and with an attitude. read more

I haven't been here for a while now since Covid happened :/. Came in this morning with a big appetite and waited practically nothing to be seated. Dined at restaurant with a friend and had the worst experience at this location. Took a long time to put our name on the list and get seated. Then once we got to our table, we had to wait about 20 minutes before we were able to order. It then took another 30 to 45 minutes to get our food. Seemed like the server was overwhelmed. Food was sub par. Worse experience I have ever had with this brand!!! read more

The menu has lots of delicious options, from my favorite Santa Fe Omelette to yummy Salmon Eggs Benedict, and of course you can't leave without getting a warm and fresh muffin- I recommend the the carrot raisin! Food was good, as expected. Service fell short. Decided to come her to celebrate our 5 year old's preschool graduation. She's been wanting to try crepes and this was the only spot I could think of that had decent ones. It's a bummer that their revamped menu (due to the pandemic) only has the ham and cheese crepe. Upon arrival, we're greeted and sat by the host. My partner and I receive the regular menus but no kids' menu was provided to us. I tried to understand that maybe the host was busy and forgot to grab one or maybe it was expected that our server would provide us one. When our server arrived (without a kids' menu), he took our drink orders. My partner and I order a water and coffee each. I asked for a water for my daughter. 3 waters, 2 coffees in total, but we only received the drink orders my partner and I asked for and had to shar water with our thirsty daughter, which warranted more refilling--manageable. Since I realized we weren't getting a kids' menu, I wanted to see online if they still had a kids' menu as an option. Looking at their online ordering menu, I was able to find the menu for kids and had her pick from those options. She decided on the Kid's Eggs, Potatoes, and Bacon. The online menu didn't specify what kind of eggs, so we assumed we'd be able to inform the server on how she'd want them prepared. When we ordered her meal, the server thought it was best to correct us and say it is the Kid's Eggs and Bacon (despite what it says online and NOT having a kids' menu physically in front of us to refer to). He hadn't asked how she wanted her eggs prepared and they came scrambled. She ate them just fine, even if she wanted them a different way. Aside from setting the table for 3 people, it felt as if they wanted to go about this experience ignoring the 5 year old at the table. It was only more bothersome since the outting was for her. And while I could have been more vocal about these concerns, knowing how busy a restaurant--that is possibly understaffed during a breakfast rush--could be made me want to just keep this complaint quiet. I understand there are more pressing concerns for the service, as a whole. Just an FYI to parents of little ones who might decide to stop by. read more

I've lived in South Gate FOREVER!!! And I said one day I'm going to go in and try it someday sooooo I chose FATHERS DAY LOL... This place is good! I came here for brunch , but service was very slow. However, our server was friendly and polite. I got the bacon and avocado omelette with a gingerberry muffin. It was super tasty. I got an iced mocha , which could've been sweeter. That's my preference, though. read more

We had just come back from Arizona, and I'm so pleased to say my family and i had a great experience, from the moment we walked in, until then moment we stepped out of Mimi's. Place is clean, our order came out at a decent time, the portions on our plates were decent as well. but.. what can make you feel better after a long drive from Arizona to LA county? Great service our server Veronica didn't make us feel like costumers, she made us feel like family members, the most polite and sweet server we could of have today, thank you so much for your great service and the laughs, you're definitely awesome and hopefully she can serve us again when we go back to Mimi's read more

So when we walked in I was super impressed with the quality of decor and quantity of seating! **just be careful of their swinging door- swings fast & both directions -DONT STAND TOO CLOSE ** We were seated almost immediately and then assisted by Carolina who was nice , eager and knowledgeable. We got YUMMY drinks , kinda reminiscent of Aguas frescas ! I recommend the cucumber lemonade!! Then we ordered our food also pictured! The French toast I got well done and it was so yummy like a hint of vanilla or something! The omelette was yummy fresh and perfect! Thanks to the chefs !! ** they have a large bar with tvs and drink specials (I saw all the fifa specials) - they also have outside seating and I can totally see them getting packed during games ** Thank you to everybody who brought our food and welcomed us in. Once we were ready she had our table already prepared. We have to order inside first before you can be seated. Once seated our food came out not too long after. Everything looked and tasted delicious! We ordered the chilaquiles verde, short rib omelette, tropical pancakes (seasonal), and the mango curd french toast (seasonal). The chilaquiles verde was savory and tangy. It wasn't soggy at all and definitely one of my favorite dishes. The short rib omelette was savory but didn't give me any wow factor compared to the other dishes I ordered. The tropical pancakes were so pretty. I only tried a piece of it without the syrup which I think was a mistake because the kumquat syrup was my friend's favorite. I definitely need to try it again with the syrup. Best for last, mango curd French toast was my favorite! I fell in love with sweetness and tanginess of the mango curd. The French toast was soft and you can taste the butter. I wish it was a main menu item. I'll definitely be sad to see it go. They have lots of seating inside and outside.

The moment I took my first bite, I immediately noticed that the ricotta tasted sour and spoiled. I drove back to the restaurant to request a refund. Unfortunately, my refund was not honored because the manager, Aimee, was not present. Karely, the lead on duty, seemed unsure of how to handle the situation and attempted to explain that the sour taste was simply the lemon in the ricotta. That explanation was disappointing because there is a clear difference between the intended lemon flavor and the taste of spoiled dairy. What upset me most was the lack of concern, apology, or effort to make the situation right. As a customer, I expected the issue to be taken seriously, especially when food safety is involved. If a manager is unavailable, staff should be properly trained and empowered to handle customer concerns appropriately. I am currently four months pregnant, which made this experience even more concerning. I wasted my time, gas, and energy driving back to the restaurant, only to leave without a refund or any resolution. This was by far the worst experience I have had at a restaurant in Downey, and unfortunately, I will not be returning.

I had eagerly anticipated our Mother's Day outing at Mimi's with my one-year-old and extended family. It was meant to be a memorable celebration, a joyful gathering over delicious food. However, our experience at Mimi's was a far cry from what we had hoped for. My sister-in-law had made reservations for our party of 14 at 12:30 pm, yet we were not seated until a full hour later. Disappointingly, there was no acknowledgment of the delay or recognition of our patience during this wait. Once seated, we were greeted by the server after fifteen minutes had passed. To our dismay, we discovered that the meal was a pre-fixe arrangement, a detail overlooked during the reservation process. When we inquired about ordering from the regular menu, our server's response lacked accommodation, cautioning us against making any demanding requests due to the apparent kitchen workload. Our disappointment grew as half of our table remained without water for an extended period. When the food finally arrived at around 2:30 pm--two hours after our reservation time--it was evident that the restaurant was struggling to manage the influx of customers. This delay in service was further exacerbated by the staggered arrival of our meals, with some members of our party receiving their food much later than others. The server attributed this delay to a shortage of clean dishes, a concerning revelation that hinted at inadequate preparation for the busy Mother's Day rush. Adding to our frustration, our desired dessert option was unavailable, a disappointment only exacerbated by the lengthy wait. By the time we received our bill, it was nearly 4pm and our family had been there for over 3.5 hours! The confusion surrounding the managerial staff further compounded our dissatisfaction, as we initially mistook one of the servers for the manager. Although the management attempted to rectify the situation by offering a discount on our bill and providing gift cards for a future visit, the overall experience fell short of our expectations. Mimi's Bistro & Bakery never fails to disappoint, this time it's the service. The new menu is great and has brought us back several times especially the two new fish entrees that feature cod cooked just right. However the twenty minute wait for a table is disappointing especially when a third of the tables in the man dining room are unoccupied and not cleared. Then there was the ten minute wait for a waitress, maybe that why they call them waitresses. She was unfamiliar with the menu which added additional confusion. Our orders took another twenty minutes to get out of the kitchen. All of the above problems and disappointments revolve around indifferent management with a poorly trained and poorly scheduled staff. We only saw one person busing tables. The waitresses had to step in and bus their tables own which took them away from their primary duty of serving customers. This is with at least ten people waiting in the entrance waiting area to be seated. I want to be quick to add we've never had a bad meal at Mimi's but it seems such a shame to see a restaurant with an outstanding menu, priced right, fail because of an inability to deliver their product to a hungry clientele. In summary, Mimi's Bistro & Bakery in Downey is about waiting.. If you got the time to wait and don't mind...you'll experience a great meal properly prepared and reasonably priced. This location, Downey, has to be the worst for Mimi's Cafe. How sad this location ruins the name of the business in whole. The staff are incompenent fools! Asked for Iced Tea the girl brings out Raspberry Iced Tea.. after I finish the Raspberry Iced Tea I ask for regular Iced Tea.. she brings out Raspberry Iced Tea again. SMH! I sat across the kitchen and I noticed the server picking fries off the plate and throwing it somewhere for a good couple minutes.. later she brings that same plate she was picking fries off of and gives it to me. LOL wow. I confront her but she just brushes me off and walks away. When I picked up my sandwhich I noticed the plate was dirty. Hard crusted crap on the plate. I thought it was mustard and I checked the sandwhich but it had no mustard and I also saw some green stuff caked on the plate as well.. couldn't eat.. lost my appetite. F-ing DISGUSTING!!! what the hell is wrong with these people. I should've walked away when I saw the B rating on the window.. but my Grandma loves there French Onion Soup. :0 so we stayed. We've lived in Downey for 30 years and have been going to Mimi"s for about as long as I can remember. Mimi"s was the go-to place for dining back in the days before Downey Landing and Downey Promenade. The menu back then was so much better. They had the best clam chowder and they would serve the bread basket with the carrot raisin cake free of charge. You sat down at a table and bam-- there's a basket of breads unfortunately, however, not only do you not get a complimentary bread basket, you don't get good service either. Back in the days, Mimi"s was packed with an average wait time of 30 minutes. Those days are long gone, just like their clam chowder. We quit going there long ago, with just an occasional visit when we want a cup of French onion soup, which is still as good as it was long ago. We went this evening because we knew there would be no wait. We ordered the French Pot Roast as part of their 3-course meal. It was awful!! The meat was unseasoned and so dry, it tasted old and beefy and the dessert was chocolate molten cake which did not ooze with chocolate and the ice cream had ice crystals sorry, Mimi"s, but even your French onion soup won't entice us to visit again! read more

Our server, Jose, stood out as a courteous and attentive individual, even though he appeared slightly overwhelmed. The main issue was the pacing of our meal. After ordering the carrot loaf as a starter, it took a bit longer than expected to arrive, and the main courses were served just three minutes after the bread. This quick turnaround left our small table crowded with food. The noise level in the restaurant was quite high, with the constant clattering of dishes by the bussers adding to the commotion. Additionally, our table was not properly cleaned when we were first seated, which was disappointing. Overall, my experience at Mimi's Cafe was less than satisfying. While the timing of the bread and food arrival was better than initially mentioned, the issues with pacing, the noisy environment, and the table cleanliness still impacted our overall dining experience. I had a really disappointing experience at Mimi's Cafe in Downey. I came in to redeem a birthday reward that clearly stated it could be used "per check" with a purchase. To follow that, I ordered muffins so I was making a purchase. However, the waiter refused to honor the reward and insisted it could only be used with an entrée--even though that requirement was nowhere in the email or fine print. I even showed him the actual reward details, and he still denied it. It's frustrating when a restaurant doesn't honor its own promotions, especially for something meant to make customers feel appreciated on their birthday. The lack of consistency and unwillingness to resolve the issue left a bad impression. I've enjoyed Mimi's in the past, but this experience definitely makes me hesitant to return. It's sad to say but this place does deserve 1 star. So me and my family decided to go out for some desserts on a Sunday evening. We figured we would come here instead of Porto's since Porto's always has a huge line and we were looking for a quick place to be seated. We got here on a Sunday and the greeter said it was only a "10" min await. However, it turned out to be a 20-30min wait and the restaurant wasn't even full, at all. it was obvious they were short on staff, the manager looked bothered. We finally were seated and we ordered our drinks, a wine, hot cocos and a coffee. They took forever to just bring us our drinks. We were confused as to why there were taking forever just to serve us. They didn't have a big selection on dinner or deserts. I won't be going back any time soon. Sorry. Service needs to improve alot. read more

Well let start by saying that this was my second time here but I did not review the first time because their food was not the memorable so I forgot to post my opinion. Thought my second time around would be better, unfortunately for me I was still disappointed. Like the first time their server were courteous and polite however their food was totally bland.I had Tuna sandwhich was ok but I had to add salt. My friend has shrimp and fries the fries seemed like they had been refried they were as hard as rocks. My other Friend provencial salmon salad Oh My that was horrible the Salad was very soggy and the greens were old. Had a taste, as you can tell I didnt like that at all. Oh Mimi's....a few co-workers in hungry fashion decided to give you a go during lunch...we should have reconsidered. First off, I know you are a chain, so with that said, although the food may not rock my world..I expect chain-like excellent and timely service. We completely were ignored for the first 10 minutes standing by the host stand... tsk tsk tsk. Then we just decided to seat ourselves at the bar, thinking 'okay this should be a least faster service... nope, dead slow. I understand the lunch rush, but this was very terrible. I recently enjoyed a delicious meal at this establishment. I ordered a ham, egg, sausage omelette and a flight of mimosas. Despite requesting no onions, the dish still had onions in it, but I have to admit, it was incredibly tasty. The potatoes were my absolute favorite part of the meal. The mimosas were also delightful, and they came in a nice set up of three for just $13. The ambiance of the place was calm and quiet, which added to the overall enjoyable experience. Today we had some excellent service we ordered liver with onions and mushrooms and that was delicious and for the desser we had some bread pudding... what i observed was a tall mgr.. never seem him before the whole 45m we were there he was talking to other tables asking them how is everithing?? My daughter, 10yrs old, and I came in for a mother daughter breakfast. We were greeted by our lovely server Millie. She made ordering easy and fun. Millie checkEd in on us often. My daughter ordered the Belgian waffles and she said "it was delicious!" She also thought they were big and fluffy. I ordered the Santa Fe omelette, my favorite.
