For lunch group meetings, this Mimi's Cafe staff is efficient in letting us have a table with empty chairs and gradually take our orders while each group member slowly arrives. In a time crunch, they did a good job in timing everyone's meals around the same time and allowing us to pay separate checks (there were about 5-6 of us). I ordered a cappuccino for a pick me up and it was okay-good. I ordered the French Onion soup because it was always savory and delicious with melted cheese at any Mimi's Cafe. Never coming back. Came at noon this Saturday for brunch. For two people we waited about 5 minutes to be seated at the worse table ever, right in front of the kitchen entrance where we can hear the employees yelling and cussing and goofing off. Was given obviously dirty and sticky menus. Ew. Ordered off the breakfast menu, asked for pancakes and were assured we'd receive the normal plain pancakes and syrup. Was given some type of crepe plate. Oh and my boyfriends French toast had a hair in the middle of the butter. Sent both back. Our server assured us it want her hair... doesn't matter that's still disgusting. Received a short visit from the manager who just said "thought I'd pass by and apologize for that." I don't expect a full speech but come on at least fake some sympathy. Our correct plates took about 10 mins to come out. They don't have hash browns here FYI. The bacon and potatoes were super salty. The food was alright. $5 mimosa was delicious but you can't really mess up a mimosa. Went to the women's restroom during my visit. Bathroom stall door locks are weird. I got out to wash my hands and couldn't because 2 employees were in front of the 2 sinks, talking and cussing talking about how they're on break and their work schedules. They can clearly see me behind them waiting to wash my hands. Uh hello??? I said excuse me and one of them said "oh shit my bad girl". Are you serious? In town for a dance competition next door at the convention center. Great location for a quick bite to eat in between all the busy performances. Our family really enjoyed their breakfast, my extremely picky son loved his pancakes. The menu has changed a bit versus other Mimi's we have been to, but over all it was still nice. Saturday night 1/21 was craving comfort food & quiet place & immediately said "Mimi's!" Got seated right away. Dinner bread was good & served with lots of butter except the long bread was a rock. I ordered Pot roast w/gravy & green peas, scallop cheese potatoes. Delicious. It was tender, not dry. It was perfect. Served hot & fresh. Ty for such a good meal. I brought my mom for the first time here, the service is great, the food is even better! I wish I would've taken pictures of everything but the food looked so delicious that I dove in quickly. Mimi's always transports me to a homey environment and a feeling of when I was a child. I've always thought that Mimi's looks like a building that would be located in the New Orleans Square in Disneyland. Food: I have to be honest, the best part of my breakfast was a blueberry muffin warmed to perfection and served with butter. I still think about them. My omelet and potatoes were average at best. My mom and I came in for a lunch date after a day of shopping. We were greeted with a warm smile and seated right away. Service was nice and very patient, in the beginning, as my mom was a little indecisive and had a ton of questions. Later on service was a quite sparse. We ended up ordering the Fire-grilled seafood skewers (I chose salmon and shrimp) and the French dip sandwich. The food came out fairly quickly but that was pretty much the last we saw of our server, which was a bummer when we needed refills on our drinks, etc. Everything seemed quite bland and lacked flavor. As a family we used to come here quite often and it is no longer the same in service and quality of the food, which is quite disappointing. Another bummer is parking...the lot in front of the restaurant is small and is shared with the Embassy Suites and the Downey Civic Light Opera. I fondly remember Mimi's Cafe from my childhood as the restaurant that gave free meal coupons to kids that did a good job in school, and I remember getting Mimi's Cafe pins after each complementary meal. Cut to the present, and it is much different. The charming pseudo-French decor is still there, but they've tried to streamline their menu to make it more modern. It seems like they did away with a lot of options too. Regardless it makes this chain restaurant even more generic. Honestly, trying to pass off a menu that consists of mainly burgers, sandwiches, and salads as "French inspired" is kind of silly. I eye-rolled so hard at the "Salade" and "Le Burger au Fromage;" for chrissakes, it's just a cheeseburger. Well, I doubt people come here expecting authentic French food anyway. I ordered "Le Duet" with the Tuna au Gratin and French Onion Soup. The soup was ok, but the tuna in my sandwich was - in the words of Gordon Ramsay - stone cold! I thought that a hot sandwich would have heated insides as well...maybe I was misinformed. The highlight of my meal was the complimentary bread, because that carrot cake loaf was just as good as I remembered it. I could have eaten a whole basket of that. I like Mimi's, especially when I get their deals through my email, buy an entree and 2 drinks and get the second entree for free. Score! Mind you, they send these deals all the time. We try going late during the week since this place gets pretty jammed pack on the weekend, especially during brunch time. Their employees are always friendly and their customer service is great! We've never waited on refills and they always come around the table asking if we were doing well or if we needed anything else. Their food is good and the facility if kept clean.
