Hot Chocolate has been on my list of restaurants to get to for a while. We finally got there recently and I'm glad we did. The restaurant is a short walk from the Damen Blue Line stop. It has an eclectic feel and is known for their desserts. Their menu is limited but everyone should be able to find something they'd like. For our appetizer we ordered the grilled octopus. The octopus was excellent! The octopus was flavorful but the accompanying giant beans and marinade weren't. Tables on both sides of us ordered the cheddar biscuits for their appetizers. They looked delicious. For dinner my fiancé ordered the Mac and Cheese and I ordered the burger. He enjoyed his dinner. I enjoyed the burger but found the cheese on top to be really rich. It reminded me of Merkts cheese on cheese fries. We of course couldn't leave without having dessert. We split the dark hot chocolate and the apple pie topped with salted caramel ice cream. The hot chocolate was delicious, but again very rich. Splitting the drink turned out to be the right decision, even with the $3 split fee which resulted in the drink being split into two cups each with its own fresh marshmallow. The pie was also good. Overall, I'm glad we gave the restaurant a try. If I'm in the area I would stop in again. read more

This place is really delightful. I heeded the warning of my fellow Yelpers and showed up bright and early for brunch one Saturday (and by "bright and early" I mean 11am). There are no bottomless (or cheap) mimosas here, like I'm used to so I only got one brunch cocktail called a "Good Lookin' Bird". The cocktail was made with vodka, passion fruit puree, lime, and cava and it was a little sweet but it also packed a punch. I wanted another one but it was $10 so that wasn't going to work. To eat, I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon. The portion was a little on the small side but the flavors of the egg, cheese, arugla, tomato, aioli...and bacon, all went well. Then again, it is next to impossible to mess up a breakfast sandwich. The potatoes that came with it were a little on the dry side but that's nothing a little ketchup won't fix. To end my meal, I had the chai hot chocolate. There was no way I was leaving the restaurant without trying what they're famous for and it did not disappoint! Out of the 10 or so flavors of hot chocolates, I chose the chai hot chocolate because I thought the flavors of the chai would go well with the richness of the chocolate and I was proven correct. We were in the wicker park area, so we decided to stop in for a bit and maybe some coffee. As soon as we walked in, the restaurant seemed a lot more sophisticated and trendy than we had expected. The walls were visually stimulating, with interesting paintings, sculptures, etc. The longer you look, the more you see. I tried the breakfast sandwich ($14) and my guest had a latte. The breakfast sandwich was definitely something special; the bacon jam was alluring and tasty without being overpowering and the breakfast potatoes were perfectly cooked. In a perfect world I wouldn't pay $14 + tax for a breakfast sandwich, but given the area it was to be expected. My guest really enjoyed their latter, and they even made a cute little heart shape. I wish the restaurant had more breathing room, as we didn't mind eating at the bar, but it was quite crowded overall. Also, I wanted to try the hot chocolate but I couldn't justify paying $8 for a cup of hot chocolate. Overall, a cute and trendy restaurant with a great menu selection and drink options, although a bit pricey. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a cozy and relaxing couch-type coffee place. It's more of a fast-paced and bustling restaurant. read more

Wow. Just wow. From the first initial sip to the next day after finishing the rest of my hot chocolate I got to go... I did not stop raving about how delicious and rich (in a good way) their hot chocolate was. We came here after dinner to get some drinks and a dessert. We got the Dark Oat Milk Hot and the Old Fashioned Hot chocolates. We also got the S'mores Pie. Service was kind of slow, but it was also really busy too. I am still blown away by how good it was. NOTE: This review is solely based on the Hot Chocolate @ Mindy's Hot Chocolate. My husband and I just paid $18+ for two hot chocolate drinks to-go at Mindy's. Were we insane to pay this much for two drinks? Maybe. Despite the expensive price tag, the hot chocolate was worth every penny. We ordered the following. Medium-Milk chocolate with a touch of dark chocolate and caramel. This drink is topped with their made in house marshmallow. The rich milk chocolate has a velvety texture and is mid-level sweet. Definitely a safe choice for your virgin visit to Mindy's. If the Medium is too sweet for your tastes, I'd go with the Dark. Old Fashioned- This one was created for the ultimate sweet tooth! The OF is a sinfully sweet concoction consisting of milk chocolate with a touch of dark. There are hints of caramel and what sets this drink apart -hence commanding the exorbitant price tag- is the addition of milk chocolate cocoa nib whipped ganache. This was so rich and creamy and adds an extra level of luxurious to an already decadent treat! The inviting space has ample seating for at least 60 guests, if not more. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon. Customer flow was steady with a few unoccupied tables towards the kitchen. I'm not sure how weekends are but I plan on returning. Went out with a friend late last night and stumbled across this place. I've seen it around in a few best of lists so we were both excited to try. I got a vanilla latte and she ordered a medium hot chocolate. We get our drinks and mine was fabulous. Hers she said was kinda spicy so I tasted it and it definitely was the Mexican hot chocolate. We tell our server and his response was oh well I'm not sure if that was my mistake or if you told me the wrong thing but the Mexican hot chocolate is the best one and at that point my friend was feeling awkward so she just left it at that. It doesn't matter who got what wrong. He should have taken it away and got her the right drink. This service just kinda blew my mind but we are the type of people that aren't really confrontational and don't speak up so the 2 star experience I will admit is probably mostly on us because we should have insisted he remake it. We also got the chocolate cake and the ice cream trio which were both fabulous but the service left a bad taste in my mouth unfortunately. -3 stars for the sad hot chocolate experience. read more

Must try the BUTTERSCOTCH HOT CHOCOLATE is the absolutely best. Oh my gosh. Even the marshmallow tastes delicious and melts In the hot chocolate. My 2nd favorite is the Mexican hot Chocolate. Going out in -47 degree weather? Oh hell no, don't do that but when it warms up Uber, limp or skip over to Mindy's Hot Chocolate. Now the name would lead one to believe all that is done here is the classic hot coco we all grew up on but that isn't so. This is a full restaurant that even serves spirits. While I haven't tried food items, I did come here for the namesake - and oh boi did it de-live-ERRRRH! Honestly, I have been herer twice. The first time the door Hostess was so rude I didn't bother with a review. I came back because of the good drink and the super Server I'd had. As fate would have it, he served my guest and I this time and made the time very enjoyable! We arrived about 30 minutes before close, so the goal was just a nice quick drink. We both went with the classic medium hot chocolate. Medium does not refer to the size but the blend of chocolate (milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and caramel). To get that full Mindy's hot chocolate fantasy, we boozed it up. I went with a shot of cognac. Normally, that's way too​ adult of a drink for this here lightweight​ but I thought the coco would lighten things up. No mama, no mama. My guest went with whiskey. Other options to booze up your drink are brandy or rum. The presentation was so nice. The drink was accompanied by a homemade marshmallow and the cutest little glass to poor you booze into your drink. First things first, the drink alone was unlike any other. I've never had a hot chocolate that was so rich and tasty. They got Swiss Miss beat. The drink was so thick and chocolatey it felt filling and intoxicating without even adding the alcohol. Okay so then I added the cognac - it was full throttle and with a few sips and five mere minutes later I was in a low-key coma and smiling ear to ear. The conversation was cool​​​, the ​ambiance was great and the drink merged it all together. $13 might seem a little steep for a hot coco but the drink again is incomparable and this truly is an experience. They even have a premade little kit you can take home or gift to someone, neat. The only reason I am giving four not five stars is that​ I haven't yet had the full Mindy's experience. Mindy's makes delicious, high quality, unique baked goods with lots of care and great ingredients. It is a pricey place so I wouldn't let my kids go crazy in here by any means due to the cost...but it's excellent stuff. It is high end and you get what you pay for. My main qualm is with the bagels - which, by the way, for the quality of the bread and bagel itself, can't be beat in Chicago. The way the bagels are served is pretty odd though, to me. If you buy a half dozen or so bagels to go, they just throw them in the bottom of your bag with other food on top (so powdered sugar donut directly on the bagel). I was buying them to save them for the next day and asked if they had a plastic bag and zip tie to try to preserve them, and was told they don't carry anything to put bagels in. I know loose bagels are a normal thing but it was odd to me they had no options to help "keep" relatively pricey bagels. Just kind of weird, next time I'll know to ask for a separate bag at least. read more

Went here a very long time ago (maybe 10-13 years) and just came back the other day. Inside is cute and cozy. Service was a little slow, though our server was nice. It was a weekday lunch period. We ordered hot chocolate before our dishes and these took a good while to come out. Food also took a while to come out. We got the "Shrimp Louie" (which they are subbing with iceberg lettuce rn due to the romaine recall) and the Quiche special. I think we both enjoyed our dishes, but I found a light brown eyebrow hair at the end of mine after eating all of it. My eyebrows are pretty dark so it definitely wasn't mine. This didn't ruin it however, didn't feel obligated to make a fuss over this. I would come back for hot chocolate or boozy hot chocolate, but maybe not to eat since the food is not necessarily memorable. My husband took me here for my birthday and it was a lovely time. We went on a Saturday morning, and with a reservation, were in pretty quickly. I had a salad and it was quite succulent. I also tried the hot chocolate (although it was summer) and it was VERY rich and sweet. Great place for chocolate lovers, I was only able to drink some of the drink as it is very heavy (and tasty)! Great food, not such a good name. When I first heard that we were coming here, I thought it was going to be "sweets only" type of breakfast place. You know french toast, pancakes, Nutella filled crepes, ugh. I need that savory food in my body! Mindy's Hot Chocolate has a great Gastro Pub style decor, along with a giant open window that faces the street so you can sip and snack while people-watching and possibly get some sun. We sat down very quickly which I'm told was crazy considering the time of day we arrived, so definitely make a reservation to save yourself a headache. I ordered the special of the morning, which was a three cheese quiche with Canadian bacon? I'm not quite sure of the protein used, but this was ridiculous. First off the size of this thing was perfect, about an inch and a half of eggy goodness. This dish boarded on runny/creamy, the eggs were incredibly fluffy, and the three-cheese combination created a light and creamy texture, it was probably the best quiche I've ever had. My brunch buddies, both ordered the Burger and offered me a sample; it was breathtaking. The burger was juicy, flavored packed and came stacked with bacon, cheddar cheese, and house made pickles. If you're wavering between the burger and anything else on the menu, go with the burger. Only if the quiche isn't available! Father day! Took my dad here and the food was amazing. We didn't make reservations, so we waited for a few min. He really loved the atmosphere and the vibe and so did I. This place was pretty great! Went with a pal on a cold day for dinner and sat by the big windows up front because of the beautiful dusk lighting (daylight savings helped us out with that), and had a nice little dinner. The staff was very friendly and kind, and super attentive with my ginger allergy (what a sucky allergy to have, right?). The drinks were fantastic. The food was pretty good! The cheddar on the burger was my favorite part (aside from the cheese board obvi). The Steak Agnolotti was Slagel flank steak, potato Parmesan stuffed pasta, taleggio cream, and chive oil. The flavors of this dish were really nice, however the taleggio cream was extremely salty and really overpowered the pasta. I had to leave behind the last piece just because I couldn't handle how salty it was. The steak was cooked perfectly but had minimal flavor. the was similar to the burger. Cooked perfectly, but lacking flavor. The flavor on the burger came from the heaping pile of cheddar that sat on top of it. tldr: wonderful staff, great drinks, would definitely return to try the chocolates/drinks/desserts. read more

When did hot chocolate ever get this good?! Mindy is my girl for reals. After a year of bookmarking this place, I finally brought a friend out here to see what the hype was all about. Its namesake implies that you'll be drinking some euphoric hot chocolate, but what about its food items? That's what we were about to find out. Desserts first though. After being seated, I ordered an Old Fashioned.. no no, not the one with the bitters, although that IS my usual go-to drink. This time, it was milk hot chocolate with a little bit of dark, caramel, and chocolate ganache thrown in. It was piping hot and deliciously creamy and smooth. My friend ordered the Medium which was absolutely perfect as well... over ice. Yes, these are perfect for the summer too. Food wise- we each split the Octopus and went with the Pork Chop and Frascarelli for each of us. The grilled octopus was amazing and probably my favorite item off the menu. It was extremely tender and came in large portions. The pork chop my friend had was phenomenal as well- already pre sliced and juicy. Being one of the few times I've had rabbit, the frascarelli was also very good! All of the ingredients on the plate blended together so well. Yum. While I could see dinner being a little pricier than usual, the hot chocolate desserts are more than enough of a reason to stop on by and sip on Mindy's tea- err, coco, err.... chocolate! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday in January and I loved that it was dim because it creates this cozy yet exclusive atmosphere when you walk in. We didn't make reservations, but they had some seating at the bar. So, definitely make reservations in advance for the weekends! I got the medium hot chocolate and he got the boozy butterscotch with cognac. I loved how rich and creamy it was, not to mention you get a huge fluffy marshmallow! My boyfriend enjoyed his, and the butterscotch was very light. Seriously, just trust me and get the Mac and cheese because it is one of the best I've ever had, and it comes in a large portion! They have different specials going on for different days, and our bartender told us that the fried chicken special is really good. I like having a dish that is particular to that day, so we got it and it was delicious. The chicken was really juicy and crispy, but the sides weren't memorable. Note that you can't get dessert to go! I didn't realize this or else I would have gotten dessert instead of an entree. I joined a cluster of ladies brunching in pairs when I got seated by the open front window. I joined in the general atmosphere by ordering a decadent lunch and following ti up with a large mug of hot chocolate. The perfect place to take in the last days of summer and treat yourself to something sweet. I had the BLT, which was served on the softest brioche bread I've even encountered. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and bright to balance out the salty crisp bacon. The homemade crisps served as a side was an unexpected delight. Wafer thin flakes of potatoes that ruffle if the wind blows past at all. Not oily at all and snaps with each bite. The Mexican hot chocolate was creamy and aromatic with spices. I think particular blend of spices leaves a slightly flat aftertaste on my tongue, which I didn't like. It wasn't as spicy or dark as I would have liked it, but that didn't stop me from enjoying every last drop. Maybe I'll try the dark hot chocolate next time instead. read more

The hostess was a little snappy which almost ruined it for Mindy. Luckily the "baristo" & another young lady working the line were life preservers during my visit. Had it not been for the sheer coolness, apologies and good service of these 2 I'd give this place a huge thumbs down. There was not a line but somewhat of a crowd totally unorganized in the small space located at the entrance. If this sounds like a cluster F, that's exactly what I'm intending to convey. The seating/waiting/name taking system was terrible. There was no destination of who was waiting to be seated, who was trying to squeeze out the door or who was simply waiting for a drink to be made. All of these groups stood in the same area. And the hostess had the audacity to snap at me for asking if I could put my name down! "Ummm she can take your name over there, she's over there with the clipboard." Wow...your sitting here at the podium in front of the iPad smart ass. Anyway, the "baristo" was full of positive energy and I appreciated that. He explained the steps of making my dark hot chocolate and recommended my nephew & I split its richness. I also grabbed a couple mini treats from the display case. The dark chocolate thumbprint was delicious. In interior decor was nice and offered a good amount of seating. WOW- this place smells better than my neighborhood!! And if you're wondering why my neighborhood smells so good it's cause I live right near the Bloomer Chocolate Factory. I smell chocolate morning, afternoon, and night!! Hot Chocolate smells so good because pastry guru, Mindy Segal, and her staff are busy whipping up delicious desserts. They even have a little bakery up front and let's just say I pretty much wanted everything in the glass case. Chocoholic in the house!! My friend and I came for a Sunday brunch. I had called at 10 AM and asked how long the wait was and the gal who answered the phone said "it's pretty much empty so come on over sista!" An hour later me and another "sista" met up here and the place had filled up! We were told we could eat at the bar or wait about 20 minutes for a table. Table please! 40 minutes later we were still waiting, but the hostess was very sweet and apologetic, which made the wait less painful... Once we finally sat down we soon learned that the food was worth the wait! We both ordered the medium hot chocolate because you can't come to Hot Chocolate and not get the hot chocolate! Duh!! The medium was made up of milk chocolate with a touch of dark chocolate and a hint of caramel (i think the caramel is what really sold me on it). Oh, and I can't forget the homemade marshmallows! It was as good as it sounds- and the fluffy homemade marshmallow was the key to making this extra tasty! As for our meals I ordered the homemade granola- a small serving, but perfect for me since I was pretty full from the hot chocolate. And I was stoked when my friend ordered the buttermilk pancakes so I could have a few bites- cinnamon pancake with pumpkin cheesecake cream and graham cracker crust! YUM! These very rich pancakes could give Bongo Room a run for their money... I noticed at a few tables nearby that the brioche french toast looked pretty tasty as well! So perhaps I'll get the french toast next time...although the next time i step foot in Hot Chocolate I'm hoping it will be for dessert! read more

I had such high hopes for this place but it did not meet my expectation. We went on a Sunday around 11am for brunch without reservations and the wait was 1.5 hours for a table and no wait for the bar. We of course sat at the bar but if you're with a larger party make reservations or try to avoid peak times. We had a simple order, medium hot chocolate and avocado toast. The hot chocolate was good but not $8 worth. There as nothing about it that makes me want it again. I can get something similar somewhere else for a lot cheap. The marshmallow was probably the better part of the hot chocolate. It was very light and not overly sweet. The avocado toast was also good but could use some adjustments. First of all, you get an entire avocado sliced on top of two very thin pieces of toast. The avocado to toast ratio didn't work. There was so much avocado on the toast that you barely felt like you were eating any toast. I had a really hard time even picking it up and taking a bite out of it. My toast was also slightly burnt so that make it hard to cut and/or bite. The honey ricotta and pistachios were the perfect amount and went so well with the avocado. I did wish I had a little more ricotta. My suggestions would be to have a thicker toast or have less avocado. I wouldn't say we didn't' like this place but we also didn't love it. Oh my the Bucktown Buckeye was AMAZING. I am so glad I chose to share this dessert with my friend, because it was definitely one of the best desserts I've ever had. The whiskey taste wasn't too prevalent as I could barely taste it, but the textures of the dessert were nicely balanced and wasn't overly sweet. The creamy top layer with the crunchier bottom layer were both delicious, and the presentation of the dessert was very nicely done as well. My friend and I also ordered 2 hot chocolates: medium and black&tan. I regret ordering 2 because it was definitely way too sweet and I could not finish the medium at all. The hot chocolate here is so thick that I wouldn't even call it hot chocolate; I would call it drinking chocolate instead, as it really resembles the drinking chocolate I had in Portland. It was definitely really good and really rich, but since it's so rich, I think it would be nice if they had smaller sizes for people to order if they don't want to drink that much or if they would want to dry a couple different flavors. I would definitely recommend this place to others and be prepared for a little bit of a wait for seating! read more

I recently went to Mindy's Hot Chocolate after wanting to go for a while and with Mindy just winning the James Beard as best pastry chef, I was all over that. Service was great and are our waitress was well informed. We started with the mac & cheese which they say never changes and is $10. Skip this. It's okay but honestly nothing special and I consider myself and macaroni and cheese aficionado. I had the Argula salad as my main entree and it was tasty. Small in size and not much pork belly in it, but it was good. I would probably order something else during my next trip and skip this though because it wasn't a salad that knocked my socks off. Then on to what I was waiting for all night! The dessert was amazzzzzzing! I had the Skillet Souffle which is a chocolate souffle served in a small skillet dish with salted ice cream and a pretzel. This dish was amazing and I absolutely loved it. The people at my table that got the donuts (also amazing) agreed that the Skillet was the best dessert of the night. It was so rich & gooey & delicious & chocolatey. If you don't like chocolate, I don't recommend this because the chocolate is so intense. The salted caramel ice cream mixed with the souffle was just a perfect bite and balance of flavors. Overall, I'd go back just for dessert or maybe an appetizer and a dessert. Everyone at our table was disappointed with their main entrees and I was the only one truly blown away by my dessert. I'm a bit disappointed in my Hot Chocolate experience after wanting to go for a couple years! Came here for the famous hot chocolate. Oh man oh man that is RICH. Be prepared to be assaulted by rich chocolate-y goodness. Prior to coming here, I was under the misconception that this is a casual hot chocolate joint with food. [WRONG] This might have to do with the fact that we came on a Friday night around 7pm (prime dinner time but it was desserts for us). Anyways despite the name, the establishment is more of a sit-down intimate place. Entrees are not cheap, and hot chocolates start from $7 for the basic ones, more if you want something fancier. Heads-up: If you came here solely for the hot chocolate (like me), they do ask you and try to seat you separately from people who are there for dinner. There's also the option to take-out! But if you opt to sit down, keep in mind that there is a $1 charge to split any of the hot chocolates, and there is a waiter so you would have to pay tip like in a normal restaurant. My advice? Food is a 3, but ambiance pushed it up to 4 stars. This small but very well decorated space is cute, cozy, trendy, and artsy all at the same time. Not only are there animal heads (moose or deer head--couldn't tell) mounted on the wall but weird and eclectic art as well. Glad we had made reservations because the place was packed at 9:30 on a Saturday night. Service was prompt and professional. Here's what we ordered: Appetizer: shrimp and grits--good Entrees: pork belly salad--not good hamburger--good tuna melt--not good Dessert: warm doughnuts served with hot fudge--good My biggest gripe was with the pork belly salad I ordered. I've had a pork belly sandwich elsewhere and it was delicious and not all fatty, but the two tiny pieces of pork belly here were all fat and no meat whatsoever. Plus, don't let the name fool you!!! This is by no means a salad. Four pieces of arugula a salad does not make!!! Good selection of beer and wine. I ordered the milk stout, which was excellent. This place is definitely worth a visit, but I'd recommend that you skip dinner and just go for drinks and dessert. read more

Mindy's outshines all dessert places I've been to. For my LA friends, it's somewhere between a Max Brenner and Extraordinary Desserts but elevated. We ordered the: *72% Dark Hot Chocolate: I was a little scared because I'm not a fan of 70%+ chocolate bars..they kind of taste like dirt. However, this was delicious. Very rich with just the right amount of sweetness. It did have a thicker consistency but not as thick as drinking chocolate, which is typically way too thick & sweet. I didn't realize how "bitter" this was until I tried our other desserts. Then, it became a good compliment to the sweeter desserts. *Chocolate Chip Soufflé Tart (brown butter graham cracker, 1871 whole milk, cookie crisps): I am a Cookie Monster and I couldn't resist ordering this. If I could, I would eat this dessert everyday for the rest of my life. The warm fluff of the soufflé tart was soaking perfectly in the cool whole milk and all balanced out with the crunch of the cookie crisp. The plating was also so dynamic! The cookie crisps almost looked like truffles. *Cherry Crumble Bar (frozen cheesecake, sea salt streusel, Klug Farms cherries, clover honey, cherry soda): One of the more unique desserts I've had. It was like frozen cheesecake ice cream with streusel on top paired with a Cherry soda. I'm dreaming about those plump, honey coated cherries. Lastly, I didn't really know what to do with the Cherry soda but it was REALLY GOOD. Usually Cherry soda is really artificial but loved this. I only came here for dessert but the regular menu looks delightful! All menus are seasonal so try it before it's gone! read more

Oddly enough I first tried this place when my younger sister was visiting she worked in fine dining at Walt Disney World and got to work with Mindy Segal at the food and wine festival - we were not disappointed! Went here for dessert/drinks on a Saturday night and didn't love it. I arrived before my friend and asked if we could just sit at the bar but was told I couldn't until she arrived. I'm all for seating entire parties and whatnot...but even at the bar? But anyway it was fine, I was excited to be there and to see my friend so I didn't mind waiting. First off, for the drinks, we each ordered one and we didn't even drink half of them! One was the tequila/mezcal, one was the gin/IPA. Neither of us really liked our drinks. As for the dessert, we had the passion cheesecake. True story, my friend said she was excited because "it would HAVE to be a big piece since it was $13." I joked "watch it show up tiny, haha" and it did. It was good, complete with a cool champagne sorbet (that was very sweet, i think had some of the passionfruit flavor, too), a large piece of white chocolate, and passion fruit something on top of the small piece of cheesecake. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but it wasn't $13 good. Also, confused as to why all the desserts are priced $13. A creamsicle float for $13? Coffee and donuts for $13? I'm just not so sure they'd all be worth the price. As for our bartender, he was so uninterested in chatting. We wanted to inquire more about the drinks, the menu, the atmosphere of the restaurant and he really had nothing to say. Made for a pretty boring experience. For a place called "Hot Chocolate" we were surprised they didn't have any spiked hot chocolate options, not on their dessert menu nor on their drink menu (we checked both, thinking it had to be on one or the other, but there just isn't one, I guess). We did both agree the atmosphere was nice and the bar area wasn't too crowded or loud. We felt comfortable and didn't feel squished or like we were sitting with the people next to us. We both agreed the dinner menu seemed intriguing but not enough to draw us back after this experience. GLUTEN-FREE PARADISE. Ok, so most bakeries aren't in the business of serving up gluten free items, but Mindy not only offers a hand full of delicious delicacies, but she CRUSHES THEM. When's the last time you had an amazing GF bagel? Probably never until you came here. Plus she tips it over the edge with her cookies, brownies, tarts, etc. I can't vouch for cross contamination, as they are made in the facility, but I live on the wild side. I got a chance to visit this restaurant while I was visiting a friend in Chicago. I loved the ambience of the place. Dimly lit lights and each table was candle lit. Very romantic kinda feel if you ask me. The food was ok. We had their Steamed Mussels which were ok. We also got their Mac&Cheese but I thought it was average. Not sure why people raved about it. My friend got the Hamburger with the Fried Egg. I took a bite and I thought it was just an ok burger. My other friend got one of their sandwiches and thought it was meh. We got their hot chocolate for dessert. We got the Medium, Mexican, and Half&Half. It was just ok. I don't know. Since the restaurant is called Hot Chocolate I figured/expected the hot chocolates to be extraordinary. They were good but nothing beyond average.
