The roast duck with rice was pretty standard. I would say it's worth getting the roast duck here. The special rice noodle roll, however, was extremely disappointing. And that's saying a lot coming from me because I love rice noodle rolls. I grew up eating them regularly because my dad, who was from Hong Kong, would often buy them for me as a kid. This version came with roast duck, vegetables, corn, char siu, and egg mixed in. Unfortunately, the dish had almost no flavor. I added soy sauce, but that barely helped. I just gave up and threw it away. If you're specifically craving rice noodle rolls, I'd recommend going to Rice Roll Express instead. If you're looking for roast duck, this place is fine. read more

No complaints about the service, swift but noticeably less frosty than the actual air temp or the usual casual Cantonese counter service restaurant (where your choices are to have your order and payment immediately ready or probably just leave in disgrace after the withering look of contempt you would be issued). No, in contrast at Ming Hing they did not rush us and made funny faces at our kid to boot. Very charming but did not detract from the working-class canto cafe vibes. I had a great lunch today at Ming Hing. I was getting acupuncture up the street and my acupuncturist recommended I check this place out. This place is so affordable and the food is so tasty! They operate both a sit down area and their counter service, so this place can feel a bit chaotic and loud. It doesn't really bother me, but don't expect it to be a quiet experience eating here. I ordered a Roast Duck with rice plate. I am always so intrigued by the way they make Cantonese style roast duck. It has such a delicious, savory flair to it and the meat is so moist and tender. I always ask for vinegar when ordering such fatty foods as this, and I actually love the sour taste with the meat. They serve the duck meat with a hefty amount of rice and cabbage. Last review of this place was 5 stars they have fallen down to 1 star because I can't give 0 stars. This place advertised they accept credit cards not only online like google and yahoo, but they even have the stickers in the window when you walk up telling you what form of payment they accept. Sticker shows all major credit cards accepted here!!! But the last two times we have tried to buy a whole duck from them they say cash only!! It has happened twice in two different months. I wanted to try their rice noodle rolls, but from what I noticed it looked like the ingredients were just placed on top of the rice rolls, rather than actually being rolled within the rice rolls. I guess it's an easier shortcut for them. Portion leans a bit on the smaller side, but not inadequate. Reasonably priced. Restaurant was clean. Workers were pretty friendly, especially compared to other restaurants of similar ilk. Apparently, they're known for their Chinese BBQ. I didn't get to try, but they did look good and legit. Finally got to try out this chang fun / rice noodle roll place in Portola! I stopped by Sunday evening around 6 pm to grab some chang fun to go. I called while I was on the way and my order was ready when I arrived. I got the fish chang fun with egg added for a little over $6. Such good value! By the time I got home, it had already cooled down, but it was still good. I did think the rice noodle layer was a bit on the thick side, so I'm only giving 4 stars instead of 5. I need to come back again and eat it fresh out of the kitchen! Usually parking is hard to find in this area, but I was lucky and snagged a metered spot right in front of the restaurant. I love coming here for Chinese bbq. They have some of the best roast duck in the city! I usually order DoorDash to go and pick it up on my way home. It's usually ready quickly and I haven't had any issues. Just make sure you leave time to try to find a parking spot. The roast pork was also tasty and the skin was perfectly crispy and crunchy. My go-to for Peking duck. They have 2 options. The traditional whole roasted duck, and a spatchcocked version that they just call the "flat duck". The flat version has crisper skin than the traditional and is my favorite. A plate of that over rice with the customary cabbage....10/10. Most of the time, I don't even use the sauce, it's that good. All the other food I've tried there is just as tasty. No complaints about anything I've had. Service is fast & friendly. Prices are reasonable. Was in the area getting a coffee and found a parking spot so decided to try some food in the area. Parking can be quite difficult here so if you find a meter on a Sunday especially consider yourself lucky. I like Cheung fan / rice noodle with meat and they have their own version here made to order that I wanted to try but also got the roast duck as reviews said that was good. My friend and I arrived here at 3PM and were seated immediately. Most locals buy the bbq or meats at the counter and take it to go, but you can ask to be seated. Most workers here are most comfortable speaking Cantonese, so having a Cantonese speaker at this restaurant helps but definitely not mandatory! The rice noodle rolls were silky smooth, and a bottle of sweet soy sauce was given to dip to your liking. I thought the egg gave the noodle rolls a new texture and a bit of flavor, but personally not worth an extra dollar. The shrimp was also not very generous and were on top of the rice noodle rolls instead of within the folds. Overall, a great local joint with great flavor and value!
