Ming's has improved greatly since its opening and has now become a staple for the Chinese community in Quincy. They now are much better staffed and the food is solid and consistent each time I visit. Given I've dined here for dim sum and dinner countless times, it's about time to give an all inclusive review. I'll admit, when these guys first opened their doors a few years back, I thought "eh - nothing special", about 3 stars. In fact, the extremely long wait times for dim sum (2 hrs+) and mediocre dinner service back then were a bit of a turnoff but no one could ever say that the decor was anything but nice and modern, especially for a Chinese restaurant. Then sometime around last summer, something changed for the better. I think they must've hired a new main chef because starting with our dinner on my dad's birthday in August 2022, the food was much better in terms of taste and quality, much to our surprise. Since then, we've had takeout via Doordash on other days (including heavy Christmas dinner rollout) and dinner again last night for my nephew's birthday and the flavor was consistent and delicious. I also went for dim sum a couple weeks ago and I forgot how many pescatarian options they had on their menu which was a definite plus. It appears that they no longer stroll around with the steaming carts anymore but that didn't really matter to us in any way so yeah, welcome back into the rolodex of local Chinese restaurant options, Ming! I visited Ming's last week for dim sum brunch. It is a banquet hall, so tables are generally filled with groups of families throughout. I went at around 11 AM, so there wasn't a wait for a table, but afterward, a huge line started forming. They have a large selection of dishes, my favorites were: the honeycomb tripe, shrimp dumpling, shumai, and chicken feet. The xiao long bao was too oversteamed, so it lost all of its juice. My table definitely ordered a bunch of dishes and everyone was satisfied with it. However, I wish they were a bit more giving with their spicy mustard, they only gave us two ramekins worth. For dessert, I tried the mango pudding that were shaped like rubber ducks. Refreshing and not to osweet. I think I would definitely return if I am in the area, especially for another big family meal. Still a solid 4 star review! I've been back a couple of times for dine-in service. Air ventilation/CO2 level is pretty good. I just can't believe the overall dim sum price has increased so much over the past couple of years! A shrimp dumpling or shu mai is priced at $6.50 per dish. Pro tip: if you come here on the weekends, make sure to arrive at 9:45 AM to grab a ticket first. Also grab a pencil and menu to select your orders while you wait. When they officially open at 10 AM, your party must be present to be seated. They will bring you to a table and you can just hand off your selection with little wait time. There is no traditional push cart. You order from the menu (they have photos!!) and they bring out your food on a push cart. I actually like this process much better! Much more efficient. Definitely scratched the dim sum itch. We came around 11am on a weekend, expecting a crazy line for a group of 5, but we didn't have to wait at all, which was a nice surprise. I had high hopes of seeing old ladies pushing around the carts (a dim sum tradition) but then saw something even better - a robot on wheels ferrying takeout orders from the kitchen to the front desk. It was an amazing sight. You put in an order for drinks and then they give you an enormous menu and a pencil to mark down on a sheet what you want. We basically got one of all the buns, which were the standouts. Food came out super quickly and was warm. Next time, definitely want to try more options, as well as the congee and noodle dishes. My favorites - Brown sugar walnut buns. I loved how they made the buns actually look like walnuts when you crack them open. Sweet pork buns. Lots of pork filling and the bun was so soft and delicate. Jellyfish. This was my favorite dim sum dish as a kid. I liked how they added slivers of radish. The portion was enormous, really good at the price point. Baked egg tarts. Loved how layered the pastry crust was, and how the filling was so delicate and not too sweet. We staggered past several thresholds of fullness to manage to clean almost everything off the Lazy Susan. Price came out to be about $36 including tip per person, which seems on the higher end for dim sum, but we did order a lot. Docking one star for how neither the menu nor the paper sheet listed prices, so we only found out how much everything was at the end when we paid. This is probably going to be the best dim sum one would find in the Boston area. It's located in this great shopping center with a 99 Ranch Market. The grocery store has a great selection and right next to it, is a restaurant worthy of coexisting in the same plaza. The food is always fresh and the portions are generous. There's a huge selection of every imaginable Cantonese dim sum dish, with a huge emphasis on seafood, as the name suggests. Service is pretty good too, which is worth mentioning because sometimes the service at these sorts of restaurants is hit or miss. We come here once every few weeks. A little on the pricey end for sure but you get what you pay for. Be sure to get the shrimp balls attached to the crab legs - epic! So the last time I dine here was for dim sum and this time we had a large dinner get together. 22 for the party and had to split into 2 tables. Ordered approximately 14 dishes duplicated the same dishes for both tables. Dishes was ok. A few better than others. And a large bowl of rice was ordered for each table and have not shown up. So half way through dinner and no rice! Where is the rice? How are we supposed to enjoy our dishes without white rice? This is crazy I had to ask the waitress twice and nothing. I saw her ask a waiter after my second time asking. So another 10 mins and still no rice, now nobody's eating because we're waiting on the rice. First off, there is a location in Malden and Quincy, MA. We're frequent eaters of the Malden location since my family lives there. We decided to try the Quincy location for dim sum today as we were going to be shopping in the area. If you're not from Quincy, note that there is *always* traffic to get in or out of Quincy on 93...all times of the day, every day. I used to live in Quincy and know from experience. As for the restaurant, it is conveniently located off Hancock street, where the really old Hannafords market used to be (I think). Its shares the same parking lot as 99 Ranch. The place looks nice and clean as its new. They have nice clear speakers to call your waiting numbers while you wait outside. The announcer says your number in multiple dialects of Chinese and also in English. The bathrooms are clean, and the layout of the tables are pretty spacious. As for the dim sum experience, they have carts pushed around like traditional dim sum places have, but we were given a menu and a pencil. We marked down how many of each item we wanted and they brought it out. It didn't come at once...some of the cart ladies would drop some things off at our table, some others came from waiters etc. Just sitting down was $4 in tea, for the 4 of us. There is also a jug of hot water. We appreciated the picture menus as it really helps if you don't know your way around a traditional Chinese dim sum menu. However, there were no prices on them, so you could get a surprise if your eyes are larger than your stomach. The service was good with friendly staff. The food presentation looks great in the pictures, and they come out looking pretty accurate. For the taste, however, it left a lot to be desired. The Malden location has excellent food and we were expecting at least the same. The dishes came out between cold to lukewarm, at best. The first clam I picked up, the shell felt cool to the touch. The clam inside was no warmer than room temperature. It was $20, but at least this dish tasted pretty good. The soup dumplings were super dry, and it was insulting that the lady came by with soup spoons for those soup dumplings. Its not needed. Jellyfish - came out cold as expected, but tasted bland/flavorless. Pork Intestines - There was a strong smell to it, more so than we are used to as this is a normal dish we order. Chicken feet (white ones) - Not cooked well, it was hard and tough to eat. My daughter orders this all the time and said the wine flavor was stronger than she's used to. Rices rolls - They were good, but they room temperature. It would've tasted good if it were hot. Beef tripe & chicken feet black bean sauce - These were decent...to good. The A1 (Dim Sum Kingdom sampler) - Looks great, good for instagram, but didn't know it costs $25 for 9 pieces. Wife strongly feels this was overpriced. None of it tasted special. Its something you'd order once and never again. In summary, convenient location for Quincy, easy free parking, friendly staff and nice decor, but food tasted mostly poor and the prices (we felt) were unjustified for that level of quality. Service felt inadequate with the condescending tone and explanation when we just wanted an update on our food. They also forgot one of our orders which we had to ask to be taken off the bill. The radish cake also did not have a crispy exterior, instead being a goop. For solid dishes, the beef short ribs seemed tender; the tripe absorbed the chicken broth well. This place is usually packed and would have a long wait time. Due to the recent arctic freezing winds, there weren't many people and we were able to get seated almost immediately. The dim sum here is very aesthetically pleasing. Foodwise, half was great and the other half was barely decent. They heavily advertise the beet colored shrimp roll and black truffles shrimp dumplings. The shrimp roll is very tasty, however, the black truffles shrimp dumpling tasted sour; it was bad. The rest of the food was decent, nothing overwhelming, but good enough for gatherings. We arrived at 11:30 for a table for 4 and had to wait 30-40 min for a table, so it was quite busy. They take your temperature before they walk you to your table and all staff wear masks. They don't have carts during covid (precovid they had carts) so you order off a paper menu. I went here with a large group of friends (party of 10) and was originally worried that we wouldn't be able to be seated as they don't take reservations. However, we were seated immediately and even our dishes came out with impressive speed as we ordered. They even have adorable little robots moving around the restaurant! Ordering Process: To order the dimsum, we received a sheet of paper with all the items and a plastic menu with images of each dish and their respective names. Everything was clearly labelled and made ordering a breeze. My only critique is there were no prices shown on either of the menus. Food: All were delicious and the portions of each were very reasonable. There was a huge variety, I counted up to over 70 dishes available that we could order. Of the dishes ordered, my favorite were the rice rolls, especially the ones with beef and cilantro. They're a dimsum staple and Ming's doesn't hold back on the amount given and also doesn't sacrifice quality. One main complaint is that after we finished our dishes, we wanted to order more. We flagged down a waiter and asked to add some dishes to our order and they confirmed it and went into the kitchen. We waited for a while (~20 minutes?) with none of the extra dishes we ordered coming out before we asked another waiter about the order, only to discover that it hadn't been taken at all. Luckily, we were already pretty full so we decided to just pay the bill and leave. I docked a star for that but otherwise, it was a largely pleasant experience. Had a great dim sum lunch here w a party of six, and ordered a little bit of everything (we went a little overboard in hunger and excitement and really ordered almost everything lol) - TASTE: 5/5 - all of the dishes were honestly good, and comparable to my experiences at Hei La Moon and Winsor Dim Sun Cafe. Classic favorites are the pork & shrimp dumplings and steamed BBQ pork buns. Great flavors in the spicy garlic crispy chicken wings, and the beef chow fun (dry version) was tasty w soy sauce. The choy sum w oyster sauce wasn't too bitter, and the sticky rice w chicken & wrapped in lotus leaf was very savory. Never seen a crispy shrimp red rice roll before, so it was nice to try something new too TEXTURE: 5/5 - highlights included the classic pan-fried turnip cakes, very crispy salt & pepper calamari tentacles, gooeyness of the steamed salty egg yolk lava buns (can't go wrong w buns that look like minions or cute pigs), steamed rice rolls (had both the crispy fried dough and beef & cilantro), and extra-extra-flaky baked Portuguese egg tarts. Steamed spareribs aren't my personal favorite, but my group enjoyed today's. The ducky mango pudding and little ram cola pudding were the best part of dessert -- so jiggly and almost too cute to eat! This is the only dim sum restaurant open during Covid-19 Phase 3 for indoor dining that I know of. And they are doing a great job following those guidelines: the tables are generously spaced apart, the bathrooms are regularly deep cleaned, and the staff wear double masks for extra measures. Also, the holiday decorations adds festivity, an excellent touch to lift spirits. I came to dine with my grandma, who, for the first time in decades has not been able to have her regular dimsum. While the Boston dim sum scene can't compete with Hong Kong's, Guangdong's, nor Vancouver's... Ming's beats not having any dim sum at all. The carts, the dishes, the cleanliness were all a very welcome sight. The food itself is decent. Can't go wrong with the popular har-gow and siu mai nor the shrimp and beef rice rolls. I thought the chicken feet was better than the tripe. The egg tarts are better here than many of the bakeries.
