Whatever the case, it's one of my favorite activities. This location of MingHin gets 5-stars for two reasons the other MingHin's do not have. 1. They take reservations!!!! If you know Chinatown's location... it's nearly impossible to get a table on your own and you have to wait for hours on a busy Sunday. Having this feature makes this location far superior! 2. Their view into the city is breathtaking! Its a hidden gem of the city. Food is delicious! You have so many options! They give you an digital tablet menu, a paper dimsum menu, and their full menu. Options are endless. For dimsum, get their sweet top egg custard buns! Super popular and fresh out of the oven! Other favorite dimsum items: shrimp crepes, shrimp dumplings, shrimp and chive, mini crispy spring rolls, yu choy, and bbq pork buns. Non-dimsum favorite, shrimp fried rice! While visiting Chicago from NY, my friends and I actually came here TWICE bc the food was so good! Unlike the more traditional dim sum with carts, this place is made to order and each item really comes out fresh and delicious! The beef steamed crepe and the shu mai tasted so fresh and exceptionally good. I really also love the creamy egg yolk bun! It's not as common, and so addicting. The prices are relatively fair. The bill came out to about $15 per person, which is pretty standard for most dim sum places I've been to. I would definitely recommend them when in Chicago. The prices are amazing!!! That is the reason for the stars. Other than the prices, I pretty much didn't care for anything that we ate. Everything was one note; it all tasted the same. We had a group of about 12 and they were able to easily accommodate us. The waitresses and waiters were really friendly and helped us all order together. It was our first time eating dim sum for the most part. The food came out hot and faster than expected. You could tell they were made to order, but again, everything was one note. You really can't beat these prices though. They are definitely affordable. Place seems like it would be really hard to find, but we found it easy enough. We won't go back though. read more

If you're craving tasty Dim Sum, this is a great place to come get it! Easy walk from Millennium Park up Randolph Street past Aon Center. Looks deceptively small from the outside but, it's actually pretty sizable with a really nice view at the back of the restaurant. The food and service really shines here and I believe they do Dim Sum all day. There is also a full menu but we've only come here for Dim Sum. Just check off what you want on the menu and it starts coming out quickly. Yes, some items are fabulous & others not quite what I expected. My first Asian food experience in Chicago and I was impressed! Came pretty much at opening on a Wednesday morning and was only the third party there. Staff members wore masks at all times. Some of them wore gloves. Overall, very nice decor and clean. They give you a tablet that has the regular menu and then the dimsum is on a paper menu that you can check off what you want. We came here specifically for the Dim sum. We ordered the chicken feet, steamed pork spare ribs, Shu mai, shrimp dumplings, egg tarts, shrimp rice roll, beef rice roll and the beef tripe. Everything was very good and tasted very clean. NO overpowering of MSG or salt or anything. Just tasted like clean fresh ingredients. My favorite was the egg tart. The custard was perfectly sweet and the puff pastry on the outside was so good. The only complaint maybe that the spareribs was mostly bone and not enough meat on them. They do give you tea, with crispy noodles, peanuts and pickled radish for your starters. Staff was very nice. Great place in the heart of the city for authentic Chinese food! read more

The best chinese food restaurant in Chicago! I loved it so much i came back twice in one weekend! Had I lived in chicago, I'd be a frequent here. I love their dim sum! and it's served all day! you can't go wrong. Highly recommend the Har Gow (shrimp dumplings), chicken feet, spare ribs, definitely the salty egg custard bun that flows out when you bite into it (the yolk can be a bit salty-- so what I did was let most of it flow out and used it as a zip to get the consistency I like) We also tried their oysters (because they ran out of giant clams) made canton style with garlic and scallions. This was also excellent. Even though we were only able to try their dim sum I have no doubts their regulator meals are delicious too! Hits the spot if you're looking for Dim Sum outside of Chicago. This was close to the airport and on our way up to Milwaukee, so it was a perfect, convenient stop. Clean environment and bathrooms. Cool ordering experience (they give you iPads with the menu and it's like online shopping where you add things to your cart, then your waiter will come around and put the order in). My only complaint would be that the service wasn't very attentive, which is why I gave it a 4/5, but it wasn't the worst. i have been going here with my family for years, and i finally brought my partner down to chicago for a romantic dinner (aka, we stuff our faces with dim sum!). we loved it so much we ended up going again for lunch!! TLDR:, it's delicious and you'll leave stuffed. however, few things to keep in mind- the food itself is always great imo! some people on yelp have had not so great experiences but i have never had any issues. could be flukes! my personal favorites include the sticky rice (upgrade instead of plain white rice!), egg yolk bun/muffins, mango pudding, and the beef on a stick. everything is flavorful and i love being able to try many different dishes in one meal. you will get 3ish of each item when you order for reference. the prices are good. partner and i spent maybe 50 in total including tip, not so bad for a nice dinner! the service when we went was just okay. i hadn't been in a while so i didn't know about the ipad ordering and no one explained it which could've been helpful! they took our ipad away though we wanted to order more. we got another one but it was just mildly confusing. the staff were mostly focused on cleaning and bringing the dishes and such, which was great because the food came fast! but if you're used to a "i'll be taking care of you" type of waiter, you won't get that since it's dimsum and you order with the ipad. not bad tbh just different than a typical place! great if you're feeling anti social lol. all in all- ask about the ipad ordering system if you're unsure, order as much as you can off the dim sum menu, GET A DESSERT PUDDING!!! I needed this meal so badly. I didn't even know how much I needed it until I took the first bite. I rarely get the chance to have good dimsum, so I convinced my friends to come here. I know this is a dessert but I just have to talk about it first. I have to. The Baked Egg Yolk Bun you guys. I have never had an experience like this before. So fresh and so good. The filling is warm and rich while the outside is a little crisp. It melts in your mouth and the flavors come together beautifully. It felt as if I were ascending. Definitely was the star of the meal, HOWEVER I am not downplaying any of the other things we tried. We got pork & preserved egg congee, pan fried pork & veg bun, fried veggie roll, spare ribs in xo sauce, stuffed tofu skin, and a veggie rice crepe. Everything was phenomenal, but my favorite out of those was the pan fried pork and veggie bun. The bun was so soft and fluffy. and the filling was so juicy and satisfying. My least favorite was probably the fried veggie roll. It was a bit too oily for me. I haven't been to the Chinatown location, but this one was closer to where my husband and I were staying, so we decided to go here instead. It's definitely the prettiest and most modern dim sum place that I've been to. We were seated at a small 2 person table, so when the dishes started coming in, it became challenging to stack and place them all of the table. They don't do carts here, it's just ordering off the menu which I'm fine with. I feel like it's fresher that way anyway. It's nice that the menu has pictures too along with the words, so for those who aren't familiar with dimsum can still see what the dishes look like before ordering them. My favorite dish was the pineapple buns with the stuffing inside!! The shrimp dumplings (har gao) and shui mai were mediocre. Chicken feet and char sui steam buns aren't recommended. The noodle wrapped fried donut was not crispy at all. That totally takes the fun away. It wasn't great, but not bad. read more

Food is very good but service needs improvement! Some servers do not speak English hard to communicate. The blue colored seats near the high windows facing the park need to be replaced with new ones. They are torn apart and have nasty dirty appearance! They need improvement in cleaning the area. Dishes are brought out when ordered, as do most of the dimsum houses in HK these days. Ordered all the classics for the fam and my parents (TW) were more than pleased. Here's the rundown: - Har gao / hsia jiao / shrimp dumplings: excellent - Siu mai / shao mai / steamed pork dumplings: a classic done well - Luo buo gao / turnip cake: hands down stole the show for me, chunks of fresh turnip and not oily. WINNER. - Luo mi ji / sticky rice: well-made sticky rice and healthy ingredient ratio, didn't skimp on the filling - Pan-fried shredded taro cake - incredibly fragrant. Pure taro ftw. Highly satisfying - Braised bean curd rolls - light, refreshing - Pan-fried chive dumplings - tasty but the rice dumpling skin was a bit thick - Pan-fried udon with BBQ pork - loved the tasty veggies this was stir-fried with - yellow chives, bean sprouts, scallions. Fresh, tasty, not too heavy. Bottom-line: $66 for a hangry party of 5 and we were stuffed. A total steal. Protip: Location is a tad hard to find, but it is immediately next door to Mariano's. Had dim sum here around noon on a Saturday. I was nervous that there was no wait and that it was in Chicago. (I live close to the San Gabriel Valley in the LA area where authentic Cantonese style dim sum is easy to come by.) I was pleasantly surprised that MingHin Cuisine did a good job. The flavors were good. We had Siu Mai, char Siu Bao, ly wong Bao, har gow, shrimp chow fun, the Macau style pork belly, pork and veggie pot stickers, and gylon. Hopefully you understood that, I don't know the English name for some if the dishes. ;) It was solid dim sum for Chicago. I'm sad they didn't have the push carts, because I love ordering with my eyes and the instant gratification, but it was fine. The outdoor space was killer. The inside was really modern and clean. A wonderful place! Food: excellent. Everything came out fresh. The Baked Creamy Egg Yolk Bun was especially delicious. A shout out to the Har Gao skins - the perfect thickness and consistency. One suggestion: provide chili oil instead of sriracha sauce. Service: really good, especially for a dim sum place! Everyone was friendly, we got our plates changed, and we never ran out of tea. The staff was very attentive. Other: the food came so fast! The only way it could have come out quicker is if it was ordered off a cart. It's really easy to make an online reservation. Also, I noticed that the staff seemed happy - they chatted with each other, joked around, and while they were busy, they never seemed stressed. Their good cheer added to the ambience, and made the experience thoroughly enjoyable. Don't listen to that Michelin Food Critic person - who is simultaneously so insecure and pretentious that they need to call their Yelp account "Michelin"? First, the food. The two restaurants specialize in different foods - one is primarily a Cantonese dim sum restaurant, while the other specializes in Sichuan food, and happens to also serve dim sum. It's like comparing a Spanish restaurant with a Portuguese restaurant. Anyone who tries to draw a direct comparison needs to learn a bit more about culture as geography. Let's draw a direct comparison! While MingHin's food is authentic, Lao Tze Chuan's is not. I don't have direct examples to draw on, but everything I had with MingHin tasted like what I could get in Hong Kong. In comparison, Lao Tze Chuan's stuff is made to cater to American tastes. The sliced pork with chili oil isn't made with garlic, and instead has a beany taste. Its cumin lamb looks more like twice-cooked pork, and foregoes a generous portion of Sichuan style dried chili peppers in favor of a more western bed of stir fried bell peppers. Second, the service. At MingHin, the smiles are genuine. At Lao Tze Chuan, the smiles are fake and overly enthusiastic. One member of the staff affectionately called me an "old man" - I'm 26, but I've been called "old" since I was a toddler, so it didn't bother me, but it's just a showing of how over the top Lao Tze Chuan's staff are. Also, Lao Tze Chuan charges $1 for a bowl of rice. What self respecting Chinese restaurant charges for RICE?! Not only are the food styles entirely different, Lao Tze Chuan is impossibly contrived, from its unauthentic food to its insincere service. It's perfectly fitting that someone whose ego is so bloated that they stylize themselves a "Michelin" food reviewer would prefer the artificial and overpriced Lao Tze Chuan to reasonably priced and genuine MingHin. read more

Crispy Pork Belly 0/5- The most disappointing dish. The Pork belly was pale & looked like no efforts were put in to make it crispy & everything a crispy pork belly should be. One of the "fun" parts about this location is trying to find the d@mn place!! Came here to meet up a client for lunch and good thing i arrived early cuz it took a couple twists and turns to figure out this location. But it was all worth it at the end. Great variety of all the dim sum that you can think of. From baos, shumai, dumplings, fish cakes, you name it, they got it! All prepared nice and fresh and coming to your table at full speed ahead. The service was amazing. They kept the food coming in a very timely manner. Our party ordered tons of different kinds of dim sum and we were able to enjoy them all without having to really wait too long before the next one arrived. The location seems a little tiny at first but there is a bigger area towards the back for larger parties. We were craving some Dim Sum after a great day at the Blues Festival and had bookmarked MingHin some time ago. Seemed fortuitous that it was a short walk away. And wow, am I glad we went!!! A little deceiving from the outside because it's very well done and much larger inside than it looks. We were seated all the way against the windows in the back and had a terrific view of the park like setting. As hungry as we were, we went right to work on the dim sum menu and the food started coming out fast and furious. Barely had time to wash my hands after I initially sat down. As always, we tend to over order (read that as over eat) when we get Dim Sum. In this case, it was so worth it though. The shrimp Sui Mai was fabulous and so were the potstickers, steamed bbq pork buns, egg yolk paste buns (how do they make those things so addicting?), and almost every one of the 7-8 items we ordered. The only one I wouldn't order again was the short ribs with pepper. They were a bit of a disappointment but not enough to impact our experience. I ordered again from here and it was the gold standard for me. :) All of the food I served my guests were perfect. Everyone wanted seconds and complimented how fresh their food was. They are busy enough not to serve food that has been sitting all day, which is a major plus for me! My favorite dishes for dinner parties are: Salt and pepper squid - A great appetizer with subtle seasoning but it definitely packs a punch in freshness. Crab rangoon - A great appetizer but if you are allergic to crab like I am you can still order these for your guests without being worried about cross contamination. I have never been exposed to shellfish after eating here. General Tao's Chicken - This one was tricky sometimes it was great when I ordered it and other times it had a higher bread to meat ration than I liked, but my guests always loved it and ate multiple portions so why not! :) It was tasty but not on the level of the Kung Pao Chicken. Kung Pao Chicken - This is a second favorite the seasoning is excellent and the chicken is nicely cooked and fresh. Note: I can always tell when restaurants cook food and leave it on the burner the chicken is always dry that is never the case at MingHin. BBQ Duck and Udon Noodle w/ black pepper sauce - This is my absolute favorite thing on their menu. Those who know me are aware that I do not like Chinese food from restaurants. It is disgusting compared to authentic Chinese food prepared by Chinese in their homes. And then I have some delicious Chinese food at MingHin. Turnip cake. Salt and pepper shrimp. Shrimp in lobster sauce. Rum runner. There was no off-putting flavours, just great taste. The restaurant has a big box feel. I sat in the bar area, so I got to enjoy the dining experience without unruly children running around. This is the Lake Shore East location. Get the complimentary jasmine tea and dim sum plates obviously! Some of their main dishes are good too. A lot of the better dim sum dishes are shrink based. I recommend the shrimp dumpling, siu mai (pork and shrimp dumpling), cheong fan (steamed shrimp rice crepe), taro cake, and egg custard! I do not recommend the crispy pork belly. This review is mainly to comment on the COVID-19 dining experience. Outdoor and indoor dining is offered. They offer hand sanitizer at the hostess stand. Waiters also wear face masks. We came for dim sum on Sunday morning. Tables were somewhat far apart from each other, but it didn't stand out to me as very different than how it was spread out pre-COVID-19. Food was, as usual, on point, and very fast. Our waiter allowed us to add things on to what we had ordered, and everything came out quickly. Water was always regularly filled up on time as well. It doesn't seem like other restaurants are doing this, so I don't think it is fair - but I do kind of wish restaurants offered disposable utensils/plates, informed you how recent was the last customer at the table you are using, and shared if they clean the table beforehand. I do appreciate Minghin using disposable menus though since that is usually the dirtiest part of a restaurant. Overall there were no issues with the meal, and the experience was similar to pre-COVID-19 minus,of course, the face masks and sanitizer. read more

After an hour of searching for our last meal in Chicago, we found MingHin through the Micheline's Recognition List. The West Loop location was convenient since we were staying at the Palmer House. Service was excellent. There were multiple servers and they all provided great service. We had the following (see picture). I'd say the food is just about the same as the location in Chinatown. I haven't been to their other two locations. Kind of weird thing that happened: my SO had ordered hot black tea. He got carded, so we were like, ok that's weird but sure, whatever. The server comes back with a bottle of Budweiser. And I'm like, "Uh, we ordered hot black tea." I love the shrimp dumplings, the bbq pork buns, the shumai, and the fried sesame balls. Basically everything I tried, I loved. I'm not usually a big shumai or shrimp dumpling person, but they are really fresh tasting and still have a good texture and flavor to them at Minghin. The baked bbq pork buns are soft and buttery on the outside and warm and meaty on the inside. The fried sesame balls are crispy on the outside, and warm and gooey in the inside (rice cake) with a sweet paste in the center. The food is SO good and it keeps me coming back every time! The location is a little weird; it's located next to the Mariano's. If you come from the backside, you'll need to take the escalators all the way up to get to the restaurant.
