Mink River has a slightly rowdy "biker bar" vibe to it, and just about borders on what I'd call the maximum before not being child/family-friendly. Mostly because the bartender was cursing up a storm with the patrons sitting at the bar. We could have really done without that. Aside from that, the service was good and so was the food. We stopped in for dinner after leaving Washington Island. It's a quaint little bar with a large dining room. We sat in the small dining room near the bar. Our waitress wasn't the most pleasant person I ever met, but was polite and not rude. I ordered a Basin Burger and fries. This was a 1/3 pound burger fried with mushrooms, onions, and cheese, served on a toasted bun with tomato, lettuce, and pickles on the side. An unassuming spot off the main drag in Ellison bay. Huge fun bar with seasoned tenders making friendly convos with locals. Menu had traditional pub fare, but included more extensive meals like prime rib after 5. Real standouts here are the extensive beer and whiskey menus. Unique IPAs and seasonal taps from dozens of breweries. We stopped in for a late snack of afternoon nachos and beers. Nachos were loaded with fresh toppings, and included a great house made pico. I have driven by this place about a hundred times and always wanted to stop in--there is something about the way it looks--an older, unpretentious, and cool looking exterior combined with the supper club moniker made me think it would have some character. On a recent trip we dropped by for an after dinner drink one night and then decided to return the next night for dinner. The service was friendly--we liked the waitress and bartender--but the food was lackluster and we definitely did not feel like we got what we paid for. We started with the salad bar which was fine for what it was--small but with all of the staples and two choices of soup. We ordered a bucket of shrimp for the appetizer and while it tasted all right, the shrimp were really really soggy--we had to ring them out before eating them. I imagine they had been defrosting in cold water until about a minute before they came out in the bucket. My wife ordered a "potato crusted" whitefish. We should have known better as the waitress made a point of warning us that the potato crust was potato chips. The fact that she had to provide the disclaimer made it obvious that other people had complained before, probably that night. My wife really wanted the whitefish though, so she went ahead and ordered it. The waitress wasn't joking. I thought she meant that the potato crusting was made with potato chips, but it in fact was potato chips. It looked and tasted like they had poured out the bottom of a ruffles bag over the fish before baking. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't so wonderful either. I ordered the shrimp and veggies over pasta. When my dish came out there was a plate of shrimp and veggies, but no past underneath. (Really???) I asked the waitress if I had misread the menu.(Not sarcastically--I really thought I must have). Nope, there was supposed to be pasta. She took the dish back to the kitchen. So my wife had her food and I didn't have mine. My dish came back out pretty quickly, but I was not impressed with the meager amount of pasta mixed in with what they had already made for me. When I think of something served as a pasta dish, there is a solid base of noodles, not just a couple of bow ties thrown in the mix. The waitress said she would take a dollar off the bill, due to the mix-up (a dollar???), but I told her not to worry about it. Altogether, it wasn't awful or anything--we both finished our plates--but as we walked out we had that feeling of "ehhh..." I really wanted to like this place--the old fashioned double entrance for dining room on one side and bar on the other was a great start. Maybe we just came on an off-night. We will probably be back for drinks, although we would need some convincing for the dinner. read more

this would be four stars but this is not a safe place to eat. my egg rolls were good and the sweet chili sauce really made the dish. we were there on pasta night and my wife really liked her shrimp alfredo. none of the staff wear masks. the big problem is the lack of social distancing at the hostess stand where you order your food. they need to make people line up on the porch. menus are reused without being cleaned. once they get a customer with covid everyone will get sick read more

We stopped here with the boys (16&11). It was wonderful. There was a table of seniors behind us and one with little ones in the bar room. All ages. I had a delicious/fresh arugula & grilled chicken salad. Their beer list is massive. Since We're in Door county I had to try the New Glarus Belgian Red https://newglarusbrewing.com/beers/OurBeers/Beer/wisconsin-belgian-red made with Wisconsin wheat and Door county cherries. YUM! The others had burgers and fries and said they were good. TVs had the US women's FIFA win over Sweden. Fun to watch. There is a game room if the kids got bored. Found this gem on our last trip to Door County. Warm and welcoming. 200 types of whiskey. I don't recall all the beers on tap. We were staying across the point and decided to take our food back to our room. O. M. G. For take out, driving 10 minutes back to our room, they did not disappoint. When we first walked in with our family of 6 it did not seem family friendly. But we ate outside on the patio and had blast playing outdoor jenga and connect 4. The burgers were great, very juicy. And, no hostess to direct us but eventually a patron advised us to just pick a table in the bar area for lunch. They have a great beer list. Ahh, the Mink. Giver at the River. You've heard the commercials and hopefully some locals talking about this diamond in the rough. We stopped here after hiking and were SO glad we did. The snow started to fall just as we sat down at the bar. It was beautiful to watch through the windows. We had burgers, which honestly were the BEST burgers we've had. I had sweet potato fries with mine which are thick cut. Huz had regular fries. We were tempted by the homemade Oreo cheesecake, which was like a fluffy Oreo cheesecake fluff on an Oreo crust. It was insanely delish, you guys. There were two young dudes next to us that ordered it to share and we all grooved on how good it was. We even considered canceling our dinner reservations at a fine dining place up the street to have another meal here. Honestly, wish we would have! The Mink River Basin gets you away of the often overly crowded and long waits of Sister Bay with better food and a huge craft beer and whiskey selection. My family and extended family always make sure to have a big dinner on the outside patio with all of our kids, ages 3-14 and would highly recommend for larger families. **Tip** once done with dinner, send the kiddos home with the grandparents or older ones and have an absolute blast at the bar for a late night, great music, great drinks!! read more

We were heading in to Sister Bay for lunch...too crowded!! So we went a bit further north and had lunch at the Mink River Basin. It was our first visit and it was great. My boyfriend and I took a weekend to go camping in Door County a few months ago and found this place during a crappy thunderstorm that stalled out outdoor activities. WOW. At first we were at this little bar/restaurant across the street but were really looking for an old pub with some nice bar food. After leaving the other place, we were about to head back to the tent, but decided to stop in here. At first I was a little thrown off because on the sign it said "Supper Club". I really just wanted to sit at a low key bar, have a nice beer, and get some appetizers. When we walked in, there was a large dining hall to the left, but to the right was a comfortably filled bar with the TV's on and people watching the London Olympics. It wasn't filled with rich stuffy people vacationing for the weekend, which is something we were trying to get away from. Overall, we had finally found our place. We sat down at the bar which was pretty much at capacity and took at look at the beer selection. Right off the bat, the beer on tap was a mix of craft, imports and domestics. Finally, a place where I could get a nice craft beer on tap. We took a look at the menu and noticed they had chicken wings. I had been craving chicken wings for a month or so, so I was really happy to be able to try a new place and what they had to offer. When we got them, they looked amazing.... And they were, the best chicken wings, we had ever had. I kid you not. Perfectly spiced, a light crispness on the outside, good quality chicken. It was heaven. I did not want to leave, I wanted to order another basket but I was soo full. Above all else, come here to try the wings. Ate here last night. Everything was excellent! Had a very good server named Christy. Very attentive and friendly. I had two sliders, Italian beef and cheddar and pasta salad. My husband had a burger (can't remember which one) and potato salad. The sliders were wonderful and the pasta salad one of the best I've ever had. This funky night spot has EXCELLENT nachos. I have tried them twice now and am amazed at the size and flavor of this tasty dish which is more than enough for two people. You have a choice of chicken or beef. Both are good. Sit on the bar-side rather than in the dining room. It is a bit noiser (depending on the juke box pics) but it has A LOT more atmosphere. Two years ago my husband and I ate at Mink River Basin and had the world's worst fish fry. We went back tonight and I ordered the all you can eat haddock fish fry. I began to eat it and realized I had been given battered chicken tenders. The server replaced the meal, and the small haddock pieces were crisply fried and moist and delicious. I got another serving of two tiny pieces and was never asked if I wanted more. It came with a tiny cup of literally two bites of cole slaw (I asked for more, was told the cole slaw was NOT all you can eat but someone did bring another two bite container.) French fries do not accompany this fish fry (I missed setting that on the menu), but house made chips. They were so greasy and bent in half rather than snapped apart. I did say something about thus, and at the end of the meager meal was asked if I'd like an order of fries. I declined as we were done. But this cost $15, which we both found to be a monumental ripoff. To be fair, my husband had a cheeseburger and fries and said the burger was outstanding.
