Have eaten here numerous times and the food has always been very good. I have been a chef for over 30 years and am very passionate about food and entertaining. Unfortunately, my recent visit was quite unpleasant. The food was as good as always but the owner was extremely rude. When I got the bill I noticed that the glass of wine I had as listed on the bill was not only not what I ordered it was more expensive. Then I noticed that the 2 Lemon Drop Martini's my wife had were list as premium pours. The well brand here is Nikolai, one of the better less expensive Vodkas on the market and I was very specific about my preference when I ordered them. I wrote it of as a simple mistake until I questioned the waiter who just happened to be the owner, and his reaction spoke volumes. He was angry and extremely defensive. His reaction only confirmed what was in the back of my mind all along that I didn't want to consider as plausible and that was that the bill had been padded. He was very rude and defiantly announced that he would be back with all the details. He comes back to the table with a new register print-out and tries to school me on what is involved in making a Lemon Drop while the same detailed bill sitting to my right reads "Belvedere", a premium pour. I used some colorful language and called him out as he childishly storms away from the table. He makes us wait over 10 minutes before returning with our new bill, all while standing at the back of his restaurant having a starring contest with one my teenage sons. The bill comes and he has only adjusted the wine. He leans over and whispers in my ear " you should be ashamed of yourself" and storms off again. My tip expressed my sentiments. So where ever you dine check your bill! This happens more often than you think. And sometimes as subtle as substituting a well brand when you ordered a call brand or in my case visa versa. read more

Its been a while since i have been to mio nonno. But i just had to write my experience here. I have never had such wonderful Italian food. I really truly mean that. The service has always been great as well. The only complaint that i could have is that the place was small, and cant handle too many people. But i have returned over and over again for anniversaries, birthdays, and any event i could make an excuse to come visit this place. I would suggest the ala crema or the russia. Fresh ingredients, simple, and savory are my best descriptions for this restaurant. We went on a Saturday night around 630p. The restaurant is cozy and 5 other tables were occupied (I think the light crowd was due to a holiday weekend). There were couples and also families with small children--seemed the restaurant can equally be a good date night place or a good family restaurant. They had a guy playing guitar accompanied by pre-recorded background music (he was very good). There is a small bar area with about 4 or 5 chairs. The waitress offered to take our drinks right away and she brought out 3 small slices of dense bread and peppered olive oil. We weren't super hungry so we decided against appetizers. We shared the rucola salad (arugula, apples, walnuts and fried goat cheese). It was dressed in a vinaigrette. It was a little on the small side for the $9 price and not meant for sharing. My husband had the lasagna and I had the primavera (roasted veggies, pomodoro sauce, topped with pesto). My husband's lasagna was small, but he barely finished and was stuffed at the end. He said it was very filling and tasted outstanding. My pasta was excellent, the pesto sauce was dolloped on top of the roasted broccolini, so it did not overwhelm the subtleness of the pomodoro sauce. The roasted vegetables were cooked just right and each of the flavors just popped. We did not try dessert because we were too full, but they offered creme brûlée and something else that I can't recall. I would like to comeback and try their pizza because you can see the guy behind the counter making them fresh and putting it in the wood-fired oven. We love this place. There is almost always a wait but it's well worth it. We ordered salmon tartare as an appetizer. It was delicious. My favorite dish is the Argosta- lobster ravioli. Food is hands down delicious. I went around the time it first opened. I have tried to go back recently and it's always packed. I liked the quant intimate setting but since they've added a bar it's just uber packed and people hang around more so it's a long wait. They need to get a bigger space. I've tried to go back twice in the last few months and I had to turn around both times. I will try again maybe on a weekday to beat the crowd because the food is awesome. read more

The food here is amazing. Although my wife and I are constantly here the food runner has been less focused on the customer. Tonight he tipped my glass over (im thinking accidentally) but never returned to clean up the mess which left me to do it on my own. The young man that always runs the food has been less concerned with the well being of the customer the last month or so. Idk if it's the staff but he needs to be consulted immediately. Full disclosure: we constrain ourselves to eating at the bar, sans views. First time here. We arrive just after 6:00 on a Friday and the place is packed. There are serendipitously two seats at the bar and we are set. We each taste several wines and settled on the malbec over the cabernet or the merlot. I use the word 'the' because there is only one option for each. Our bartender serves up a dipping plate of very good olive oil and flat bread. Save for failing to introduce himself when we first arrive, the he is a credit to his profession in that he never failed to appear to address a need. Though we normally split an entree, being the first time, we each order our own. My Fresca is light and very flavorful. My wife has the Paesano, which is a little heavier but like the Fresca, has a great blend of flavors. Interesting, the entrée portions are slightly too large for one, and not large enough for two. It is either that or we are both very hungry. The meal, the wine, and the service are topped off by the evening entertainment; a singer whose voice is reveals the influences of Billy Joel and the late great Dean Martin. We will be back! Positives - Almost too many to list: Foods have very well-balanced flavors. Nice bar with great service and good customer camaraderie, warm atmosphere, and excellent entertainment that does not interfere with the meal. Hooks under the bar for the ladies (a telltale sign of attention to detail.) Cons: Sparse selection of wines by the glass. Bar is small. Parking is a premium. read more

Got re-routed due to road work today and discovered Mio Nonno has opened! We ate here for the first time and are so pleased to find a restaurant of this caliber in Allen. Best Italian I've had in a long time and very affordable. It was $10 for the lunch special I believe and the portions are generous. They use fresh ingredients and everything we ordered was delicious. The lasagna was amazing! We will definitely be back and trying everything on the menu. I noticed the wood burning stove so am curious about the pizza. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Came here for lunch a couple of times. It's a really small place but nicely appointed. The first time we had the calamari, the mediterraneo salad, and the nonno's pasta. The calamari was really good. A little spicy, nice and crispy. Salad and pasta were good too but portion seemed small to me. The second time we ordered the margherita pizza and the chicken parm. My husband LOVED the chicken parm. Pizza was really fresh and flavorful too. On Valentines day we ordered the margherita pizza and chicken parm to go. It was not as good but I guess it was to go and they were really busy. read more

They had a kids menu and were friendly but I think the atmosphere is better suited to kid-free date night simply because the dining area is cozy. Caesar salad was great. Pasta was very good. You know this is a good restaurant. It would be a great restaurant we're it not for the Ass hole owner. He is an arrogant, pompous and has absolutely no people skills! Four of us showed up at 5:30 pm, only two tables were occupied...we ask the hostess for a table for 6 and were curtly told that we would have to wait for the rest of our party. Another member of our party arrived and they still would not seat us. The owner came over and told us "story " about his seating policy! Such BS....it is now 6:00, we have not been seared yet.....just think we could have had a bottle of wine and some appetizers during this wait.....he lost at least $50.00 because of his story! Well here it is 6:10 and we are finally seated. No matter how good the food is tonight it will probably taste like shit due to the experience. read more

Update. Just had dinner there last night & brought friends who had never been here before. We did show up at 9:30 and they close at 10, so we wanted to be respectful and not go past the 10:00 mark too much (meaning when we were rushed to order I was okay with that because they were closing). Food was good as usual, but when I asked for the fresh Parmesan that they normally serve, I was brought the fake Parmesan and told that this is the left over Parmesan that they had tonight. Me: Wait, what? You are serving me left over Parmesan? You are out of fresh Parmesan?" Waiter: no, but we already put away the fresh Parmesan tonight. Me: So your fridge is a vault that only opens tomorrow morning? WTH? I'm sorry, but my wife & I always spend $85 to $90 per meal there & had just expected more. Guess they are having way too much success and are cutting corners now. I was hoping my friends would enjoy the place so we all could come back, but after last night it appears not......to be continued.....maybe?? read more

I went to this restaurant after looking at reviews in Yelp. The food was ok, but not amazing. I am Italian, and just recently visited Italy, and this def seems to have an American flare and was a bit heavy. Also, they did not notify us that they don't listen to accept AMEX. I was here for a business trip, and the management first said AMEX owed them money (seems odd a restaurant using their services would get paid by a credit company) in March and then changed it to last week. At the end of the day, pretty good place if you are in the area, but a manager should never say "everyone has a visa" when attempting to pay. read more
