Went here for dinner on a Friday night. I ordered the chicken aristocrat and I really liked the chicken, the pasta was well cooked with great texture. I feel the dish could have used more eggplant and the sauce was missing something in the flavor, maybe some pepper? The bread that came with our order was great and of a couple different types. My partner ordered a dish that was available online but not on the physical menu and we learned why, it wasn't very good, just too bland. Don't try to order the chicken picatta. Otherwise, the service was great for how busy the restaurant was and the atmosphere was pretty alright. Mostly bland walls with framed historical photos and old menus or other documents. Bf and I visited for our weekly date night because I saw this place mentioned multiple times on r/Plano as one of the best Italian places around. Bf and I both got salad with our dishes, and it was good for what it was. Dressing and lettuce was yummy, and you get one (1) slice of tomato on top. Could've used more toppings or at least more tomato, but I enjoyed it. The garlic cheese bread we accidentally ordered because we thought they didn't serve complimentary bread was pretty good. The garlic flavor was strong and I enjoyed it. It was also $6, which I do not believe it was worth. I will fully go out there and say I ordered something technically not on the menu. I had seen Piccata as a dish on their online order, which is my favorite meal, so I asked the server if it was available. If not, I was totally happy to just order something off the menu. She said it was available and as such, that's what I got. I've had a lot of Piccata, since it's my favorite, and this... sucked, frankly. It was one of the blandest meals I've ever had at a restaurant. The sauce tasted like nothing. The noodles tasted and had the texture of overcooked ramen noodles without the flavor packet. The chicken was good, with a good breading and texture for piccata and a bit more lemon flavor (but not by much). I threw in a decent amount of salt and butter from the bread and it did not save it. Was it gross? No, but it was also $20. I could've gotten cheesecake factory's top tier version of this dish for only $3 more. Now, I know, this was off menu, which is why I'm not completely dinging them for it. Bf got one of the signature dishes which came with both eggplant and chicken. He said he couldn't taste the eggplant much and the pasta had a funny texture. I enjoyed his sauce well enough, but it was bland for him, who wanted a bit more kick. He also noted that the chicken was pretty good in his dish also. Overall, our meal came out to $75, which is more than I usually spend at restaurants of a similar style and audience. This food was not worth $75. I estimate the worth being perhaps $30 max for the value. I really wanted to like this place more. It was homey and the staff was really friendly. But the food fell flat in value for price. Bf had said there's a few other things there he wants to try, mainly seafood dishes, but were it up to me alone, I wouldn't be back. You'll likely see Joe himself at the door--not a sexy "cast member," but the owner greeting regulars like family. No Reservations & No Penalties: While you can't book a table, they also don't threaten you with a $75 fee for having a life or put a time limit on your dining experience. The "first-come, first-served" policy creates a natural neighborhood vibe where you might actually talk to the person waiting next to you. I've been regularly dinning at Covino's for probably 30 years. I have never been disappointed. A few of my personal favorites are the muscles marinara, the eggplant parm. and the pizza. I wouldn't necessarily describe it as authentic Italian, it's more Italian American. It tastes very reminiscent of the Italian you find on the east coast. Yum! The owner Joe is super nice and usually always there to greet you and say hi. It's BYOB so I love to bring a bottle of wine. The portions are generous but try to save room for a cannoli. Very popular Italian restaurant on independence Parkway in Plano. in the corner of a strip mall, which gave it the opportunity to have covered patio seating, which is nice. Very friendly and attentive service. Don't let the waitlist scare you. Ours was supposed to be 30 minutes and ended up being only 15. Just depends. Two of us split a pizza, which is what Covino's is known for. Very good New York style pizza. We also had two of the chicken entrées. The Aristocat dinner is chicken and eggplant Parmesan and I thought pretty good. It comes with a side of pasta and all covered with a vodka type sauce. However, beware of the Agnolotti Chicken dinner unless you like the taste of bacon, which my wife doesn't in many things. It is tender slices of smoked chicken with a bacon flavor, covered in a cream sauce. Wasn't crazy they charged us 4 corkage fees ($2 pp) even though one of us only had beer and drank out of the bottle. Not a big deal as I love the BYOB. There were no Area Codes then and if you wanted to call long distance, you had to raise an AT&T operator to put the call through. There is a long standing family heritage at work here and the food reflects the pride this family has in serving guests for generations of the Covino family. We grew up in New Jersey and have sampled many Italian restaurants in the Plano area, searching for a real authentic New York area pizza. Covino's serves the only pizza we would give a 100 percent authentic rating so far. We haven't hit them all yet, of course. Both came with salad and bread (the latter was both Italian white and focaccia). Call to order and head inside to pickup. They limit the number of people waiting in the lobby, so they try to get you in and out quickly. Covino's is a restaurant I've gotten delicious to-go pizzas from for years, but I just recently tried dining in. My only regret was not dining in sooner! Familiar with Covino's popularity, we didn't mind waiting for our table while sipping on our BYOB wine on their warm fire-lit patio. There is a small and reasonable corkage fee and I love that just about everyone else waiting for their table also had their bottle of wine handy. Clearly a neighborhood favorite, many of the parties waiting struck up conversations with each other as well as the owner who was personally seating parties, cleaning tables, and opening bottles. When we made it to our table we settled on the calamari as our app. It was tender and delicious, served with a bright marinara sauce. For my main I ordered the chicken aristocrat and it was incredible. The chicken was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. It paired amazingly with the eggplant and tomato cream sauce. Obviously we couldn't pass on dessert and their tiramisu always hits. Clearly I've been missing out here by ordering my meals to-go from Covino's and I can't wait to dine in again! read more

The flavor was great, but as with many Italian restaurants, the pasta was way overdone. I assume in a restaurant environment, keeping the lasagna pasta al dente is pretty difficult.
