I'm from Hawai'i and I have to eat ramen at least once a month to satisfy my "wish I was home" cravings. I heard about this place from my manager and it was really good for a first time experience. The soup base was awesome! Despite having onions in my ramen when I asked for no onions (because I Hate onions), it was still good. My boyfriend got the bento box and he really liked the chicken. One of our favorite Japanese restaurants in the area. Food is amazing and the staff - from Tony in the front to everyone in the back - makes you feel welcome and part of the family. Everything is fresh and wonderful and there is absolutely nothing on the menu that isn't spectacular! Is this the same place? Maybe I'm spoiled by great sushi in my home town, plus, I've had sushi in Japan, so I found this place very unauthentic. The fish wasn't *that* fresh (the tuna had the texture of something that was once frozen, then thawed, then re-frozen), and the fish pieces were so large, it was hard to eat it in one bite. The tempura batter was definitely not up to par either and the wasabi came out of a tube. At least the ginger pickle had a nice bite to it and the rice was nicely done. Service was good. This is definitely a "roll" place rather than an authentic Japanese sushi joint. read more

Probably some of the absolutely worst sushi I have ever had! (Raw fish isn't supposed to smell. Crab, especially real crab shouldn't be mixed with mayo!) My son had the soup, it looked great he was happy. Meanwhile, I left hungry and somewhat upset. Even when the server asked how it was and we told her how unhappy I was, she shrugged and walked away. Our drinks were empty and unrefilled 95% of the time. Save your money and time. read more

Yummy! I love their crispy rolls. Very unique types of rolls and a cool menu to fill out and hand back to the server. The menu items were quite vast and had a great amount of different selections. Sushi cuts were OK. Good cuts of ika, not bad tamago (it had some brown sugar I think it is). Several belly cuts but no O Toro. Tako was a little too chewy. What I didn't like was some guy walking up to the bar to talk to one of the workers and handing him a paper in middle of the him making someone's roll. I really hope that guy wasn't asking for a job. I think thats what it was since he kinda ignored the other staff like he knew the guy. Separately, it's been a while since someone took the menus from me before I was ready to atop ordering. Apparently among the locals, not all Mio's are the same. It's a chain (which was the first red flag for me) but everyone assured me that this place was the best location out of the group. And it's the truth! We've been here 2 times within a 3 day period because it was that good and we cannot wait to go back. We love the affordability, quality, and options for sushi here. I like how tightly they are wrapped so that the fillings aren't oozing everywhere as I've had elsewhere. The fish is fresh and plentiful for the rolls. We also like the salmon garlic nigiri and the sea bass. So good, so refreshing, so yummy! The nigiri rice is so flavorful, there's a touch of sesame, a bit of vinegary crispness....so good! For 2 people, we typically spend 30-40 dollars and leave pretty stuffed. For me, that's a good deal. I don't typically order bento. Usually we order raw rolls, one cooked roll, and some orders of nigiri. I'd be interested in trying specials next time now that I know it's some place that I want to come back to. It's a small shop and there aren't a whole lot of seats. If you come early, 5 or so in the evening, there won't be as much of a crowd. It does take longer to get your order but I attribute that to them taking their time to make really good food so I don't mind it. It took a while to get our check and when the place is busy, it's hard to get that water refill or that next order of sushi. It's so good that I don't want to detract a star though because the wait staff was very apologetic. 2 people to wait tables in a full house is difficult and I can understand the hustle. read more

My husband and I eat here at least once a week when in town. Best sushi around in our opinion. It's a definite must if you enjoy sushi.

First off we love this place and I can explain the rating as well. This was the first time my wife and I came to this place. First off they were really nice here and accommodating knew how to fix us exactly what we wanted even though it wasn't on the menu but they had the ingredients to make us what we wanted so it was great, and I had a food allergy so they made sure to accommodate that for us. We will be sure to come back we absolutely love them. Plus the rolls were nice and tight and stayed together you could pick it up with your fingers or your chopsticks or a fork whichever you like. I took the fingers and chopsticks methods to eat my food. So we got some Sushi Rolls. A Bento Box with three items and a Yakisoba. We loved all the food. The prices actually aren't bad we just bought a lot of food so it costed us, but we were having a little data night via at home with some great takeout, since currently their location isn't open to diner's. Good stuff. Mrs. K. and I went here last night while we were waiting for the shop to finish the brakes on my car. It is located in a (one of the many) strip mall(s) off 185th (on the west side). The service was friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. We had (if memory serves): chicken yakitori, spicy tuna roll, philadelphia roll, veggie roll, miso soup and one other sushi roll which I am now forgetting. The miso soup was served hot and was delicious. The yakitori was overcooked, unfortunately. The sushi was delicious. I am used to (and prefer) smoked salmon in my philadelphia roll, and they use regular salmon. It was very good, just different than what I'm used to. The ingredients were fresh and high quality. It is a little on the spendy side ($28-ish including tip for two people, no leftovers). Would definitely go here again. read more

I'm not even going to try to argue that this is the best sushi in town, but it is consistently great, especially if you are into rolls. I could definitely get into eating my way through their entire menu. The prices are decent enough and the service is fast enough, this wouldn't be hard to pull off in one sitting if I had an extra stomach or four. Our favorites so far include the Goma-veggie/avocado roll, Vegas, Beauty and the Beast, Mio and tuna rolls. Their fish is always fresh and of good quality as well. As a former San Franciscan, sushi bars have a hard time winning me over. However, Mio Sushi has some of the best Tuna Sashimi I've ever had. Ever. The atmosphere is plain jane, and it is located in a strip mall. When it is busy, it is very loud and they sadly play American Top 40 radio tunes. What is with that? This place is a sufficient substitute for my favorite sushi restaurant on NW 23rd (see my review of Yuki Sushi). While I don't eat anything but veggie sushi, I really enjoyed my sweet veggie roll here. I also got the Inari roll, which I liked very much. Good proportions of veggies to rice, and it was quite delectable. Since I was also in the need for some protein I ordered a chicken yakitori appetizer. Many years ago, a friend shared something with me of great importance. We were out with a group of friends to dinner at a Chinese restaurant and I was in the mood for a burger. Nobody else was, so majority ruled. The Chinese restaurant had a burger on their menu, and while I am completely against this normally, I was actually considering ordering it because I was craving one so badly. My friend looked me in the eye and said "Chey. Get what they can do." The chicken yakitori reminded me of this story, as it was completely overcooked. It was like trying to chew a rubber hose in half. Too bad. Lesson learned...stick with the sushi. You won't be disappointed. read more

Thank the food gods for Mio. Fun fact: all their sauces are made with Tamari (a gluten-free soy sauce, because soy sauce just has to contain wheat, which I'm allergic to) but you can't even taste the difference. Why does that matter, you ask? That means I can stuff my face with rolls covered in eel sauce again - a definite cause for celebration! They also make a good number of their rolls with real crab as opposed to krab (it also contains wheat, because everything does). I always get the Ahi Tataki with an extra side of eel sauce....ok maybe two Ahi Tatakis. Or three. I've never actually eaten in this location, just in Vancouver, but they're always super friendly on the phone and when I come to pick up. If I stop in without calling first, they're always really fast to get my order ready. I have more options for sushi here than anywhere else in the world, outside of Japan.....well, maybe not, but that's what I'm going with. For this wheat-allergic sushi lover, Mio is my haven. I really enjoyed this place when my friend first introduced it to me, since then, not so much. The food is good, not great. I almost feel like going through the motion of eatintg rather than enjoying. I can tell the waitress recognizes us, but everytime we go to pay it's a 15 minute waiting game to get our bills correctly charged.
