West Seattle restaurant review: Mio Posto. Date night. Friday. In an effort to get rid of my zero pack, I'd been dieting all week. We both wanted to use this as our cheat meal. First rule of cheat meal is never waste cheat meal. We pick Mio Posto. Upon entering I'm struck by the scent of kid-less adults craving salty carbohydrates and a parent buzz. These are my people. After telling the hostess we'll gladly split our 6 top with others if she screens for personality, we are seated. The atmosphere is 1940's antique shop meets a space the cast of Friends would hang out in. Neon, bricks, wood, liquor bottles and the crack like odor of artisan pizza being emitted by the oven in the middle of the room. Combined with the humidity I feel a Boozy Bikram flash mob might erupt. Our waitress appears. Her style portends the work of mouth art we are soon to receive. She's cool, hip and sassy and her service as thoughtful as her smile. Her recommendation: the pancetta and egg pizza. Some scotch, chickpeas, a nitro pour porter, blah blah blah. All foreplay. And then it came. No pomp. No circumstance. Just pizza. I took a bite. The house lights dimmed. God music began playing. Angels circled the room. A 12" golden glow enveloped our table. Pretentious bacon, loads of EVO, hot sauce, a crust teleported from Sicily and...fried eggs. OH GAWD. How good was it? 16 hours later and it's all I want, all I need. Like a positive form of PTSD, I can't stop thinking about it. Lee's Asian's seven flavor beef, Buddha Ruska's crack chicken, Jack's burger, Ovio Bistro's fried chicken, Bakery Nouveau's twice baked croissant, you have been challenged. And beaten. I was skeptical to visit a Mioposto location again since my first visit years ago was awful. To be fair, my bad experience (see previous Yelp) was at a different location but the food was amazing. I decided to give Mioposto another try since my GF and I just moved down the block from this location and I was impressed with the food during my first visit. My thoughts about Mioposto now: SO good!!! Such great service and the food was once again, beyond delicious. My mind has definitely changed about this place and I am definitely a fan now. This was one of the best pizzas I have ever had. Combine this with good service and a hip decor, and you're in for a cool evening. We had a group of people, and we were greeted and seated promptly. The waitress never let our water run out, and she brought our drinks quickly. She also struck that good balance of making sure we were okay, but not being annoying. She was also quick with the check and the cash out. The real star of the show was the pizza. Dear GOD that was some great stuff! I had the La Bianca, and it was absolutely amazing. The cheese blend was brilliant, the wood fired crust was perfectly tasty and had a great texture, and the carmelized onions were brilliant! I think the balance of flavors and textures was what really set this pizza apart from others I have had. I walked out of the restaurant thinking about when I could come back next. Also, all of their pizzas can be gluten free for an additional charge ($5.50, I think), so I would be curious to come back with one of my gluten free peeps and see if it's good. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is becuase of the parking. While it could be worse, I had to park a couple blocks away in the dark, and while West Seattle isn't notorious for crime, it would have been nice to have been closer. A good local offering that is at least on par if not a bit above the many other pizza places in the neighborhood. Long lines on Fri and Sat are the norm and not simply a product of this place being new and garnering first look from locals. There's a lot to still be excited about, though the menu tilts heavily toward pizza and not other traditional Italian favorites. Sitting at the bar is a better-than-expected option. Service is fast and friendly, and there's no need to duck taps and waitstaff if you position yourself at the right part of the bar. And it pays to be closer to the bartender on busy nights. There's no entryway, so the line at the door hovers over diners in an incredibly overbearing way. Not good on cold nights with sleeves from heavy coats flinging everywhere for those unlucky enough to get a table by the entrance. Hostess is polite and keeps things moving. Parking is street-side and completely hit and miss, depending on the night. Walking may be a better bet. HH prices are fair, but not a big lure in themselves. Recommend and will return. read more

I never write reviews, but this restaurant compels one. There are a few basic things a new restaurant should do well: greet patrons, seat patrons quickly (or indicate a wait), and provide menus and water nearly immediately. After two trips here, the seemingly overwhelmed staff seems incapable of doing so. The food is good, atmosphere is better than the average in W-SEA, but Mioposto has plenty of competition in pizzerias in the neighborhood, so I can only hope they'll find their legs from a service standpoint. Bottom line: don't come here planning to dine and make it on time to your next social engagement on time. Fantastic Happy Hour! No wonder this place was crowded. We enjoyed the calamari (not fried) and the salumi plate as apps and then had the clam pizza and the sausage pizza. I just dined at Mioposto for the first time on a Thursday evening. We obviously have a great deal of pizza here in west seattle, but here are a few reasons this place is a standout: 1. The menu has more than pizza, it includes sandwiches, several salads, steak, and small plates. 2. The restaurant is well designed with windows that open, keeping it cool despite the large wood fired oven and plenty of bar seating. 3. Service was very friendly and attentive 4. The food was really good and I believe most items are made in house. I watched how fastidious they were with plating. The attention to detail is certainly nice to see. So overall a great dining experience. For a new restaurant they certainly had no kinks to work through that I observed. read more

Hubs and I continue to not too fixated on our regular spots not far from where we are in West Seattle, so we ventured north and stumbled upon this place in Admiral. Great ambiance here, and we've now been back a few times. I've tried the prosciutto and arugula pizza, the lasagna, the eggplant parmigiana, and last night, a mushroom pizza. I've also tried the calamari appetizer, which to my surprise, wasn't the usual breaded and fried kind, but rather, kind of sautéed I suppose, in a red sauce. Different, but savory and delish. They do a nice job here. I'm not sure I love, love, love this place, but it's definitely a nice, Italianesque change of pace from our usual Admiral routine. If you want to avoid the mad dinner rush, just wait till after 7 or so, after all the families have come and gone. It gets a lot more quiet and tables open up. Quite popular for brunch too, and we haven't quite figured out just the right time to go where it isn't mobbed. Great brunch options too! read more

So pleased Mioposto expanded into West Seattle, and in particular to my neighborhood. Its our new go-to place for the 4-5-6 (Happy Hour 4-6 with prices to match: $4 Manny's (a darn fine beer!) $4 house wines, $5 wells, and $6 pizzas). But the regular menu is so good we find ourselves more often than not ordering from it. The Quattro Formaggi (mozzarella, gorgonzola, fontina & grana), Con Le Patate (olive oil, fontina, grana, garlic, roasted potatoes, & caramelized onions), and Zucca Balsamica (amazing roasted butternut squash, pancetta, caramelized onions, garlic, rosemary, goat cheese, and a balsamic reduction) are the standards we play here. We also love the wood oven baked lasagna with its delectable and savory fennel-loaded sausage. I've yet to try the wood oven fired ribeye but will on a special occasion for a splurge. This place is a small neighborhood spot and its new, and therefore popular, so happy hour is happiest closer to 4pm. Otherwise time your dinner to coincide with the turn of the first service. The wait is never too long and its worth it. They are still working out a few kinks with the level of service (otherwise my review would be a 5). Service is always pleasant and sincere, but not always timely or attentive. If you aren't in a hurry then just relax and "seguire la corrente" and you're sure to have a lovely and satisfying evening that will bring you back to Mioposto. read more

West Seattle has some tough competition for pizza and this place stands out. I live in the neighborhood and have come in a few times. Service is always good. The only complaint is that there drinks are pretty pricey compared to other places in the neighborhood or even down in the Alaska Junction. Also, breakfast pizza. read more

We met a group of our friends for a pre-holiday get together here. The service was okay but thankfully the delicious food made up for it. My boyfriend and I each ordered a side salad. He had the Cesar salad; the dressing was fantastic and the lettuce actually tasted like lettuce which could only mean what thing; (hold on to your hats!) they use fresh ingredients!!!!! I ordered the beet salad ( I wonder if the beets where from Schrute farms) it was so good. I loved the mixture of lettuce, beets and goat cheese with every bite. Oh let's not forget the almonds for an added crunch! For the main dish we ordered the Spring Lamb pizza. Again with the goat cheese but what can I say, it's freaking amazing. The lamb sausage was really good and the pesto sauce was just right. The bits of chili flakes added a bit of a kick but I still added a bit of their chili paste / oil on every bite and it was heavenly. read more

This place was really great. I had the meatball sandwich, which was wonderful. Not too heavy. The bread was fabulous but nicely balanced. I did not leave feeling like I had just eaten a weeks worth of carbs and cheese! My boyfriend had a salad, which had an entire garden full of arugula on it. Also super good. I love Mioposto, I do. But this location is not good. Something is always off when I come to this one, & this past Saturday was no exception. While the pizza was fine, the greens in my beet salad were so slimy. The salad had definitely been made far ahead of my ordering it. The music they were playing incredibly dorky & soft, almost Christian sounding pop. (According to Shazam, one of the bands was called The Script?) Unfortunately, it got on my nerves so badly, I had a panic attack. My brain chemistry is NOT their fault, but throughout the meal, we were both so completely turned off by the music. Why not just play some whatever downtempo instead of something some customers would find obnoxious? In all of the years I've been eating there (primarily at the one in Mount Baker), I've never heard anything like it. Imagine the soundtrack from a Hallmark movie. Will definitely try again. We were there for happy hour and want to give Mioposto 3.5-4 stars. The place was packed on a Saturday and I think we got there around 4:30pm. Husband ordered the calamari and said it was good, he had a Mannys and I had happy hour red wine (was just ok but heck, also $4 a glass). We had just come from a wine event so I was fine with what I ordered. LOVED the Caesar salad. Also ordered the $6 personal sized happy hour pizzas. Margherita and Pepperoni. I'm watching my carb intake but my husband gobbled them both up, but then again he had just done a 20 mile training run. The server forgot our order for olives but we were actually full with everything we ordered. Parking was hard to find, there was a line of people waiting to get in, will try for dinner next time. And will walk from Alki. Just glad to see another restaurant in West Seattle. read more

I'll start by saying the food is good. We used to go for brunch and really liked the breakfast pizza, and especially the French toast thing (can't remember what's its called). However, the service here is usually terrible. We've been here at least 10 times and I'd say at least half of those visits were about an hour fifteen to an hour and s half in length. Even when there are only about 10 other people in the place, our food takes about 30-40 minutes to get. Once we watched the kitchen staff but my wife's food on a shelf and it sat there for 20 minutes because they forgot about it. The last time we were there for brunch the place was about 3/4 full. We took our usual spot at the bar and sat there for 20 minutes. The wait staff saw us and never even acknowledged we were there. No menus, no hello, no "I'll be with you in a moment". Nothing. We always tip 25%, so no way they remember us as bad tippers. We always just sit at the bar, eat and leave. I'd say we have got to be the easiest customers to wait on. Such a disappointment since this place was in our usual Sunday brunch rotation. We might go back someday, but our last 3 trips here really left a bad taste in our mouths solely based on the service and wait time after sitting down. 2 stars only because we enjoy the food, but there are way too many places in Admiral and Alaska Junctions with good food to sit around for bad service. read more

Walked in last minute Friday night. Host was very appreciative and able to honestly provide outlook of wait. She stated about 20-30 minutes for family of 3. We went to bar, my daughter 5 year old stood behind the railing as I ordered drinks. Bartender acknowledged my presence quickly. So far the service people have been great. Actually able to be seated within 10 minutes as my drinks were finished. Sat at a community table meant for 6. We obviously used 3. The hostess asked of we would mind if 2 others were seated. I thought that was nice to ask but unneeded. People were very nice and acknowledge my daughter (my daughter is very experienced in proper behaviour when out as we eat out nearly every day at some.point). They gave my daughter some pizza dough to play with, she loved it. Food: appetizers were great and actually filling. Very reasonably priced. We had the cheese and meat board, meatballs, Caesar salad, and zucchini dish. Dinner was a shared pizza and the lasagna. All the appetizers were very tasty. However the small Caesar was really small. Essentially a child's portion. We should have ordered the medium. Pizza was fresh and sauce nice. Just a Marguerite cheese pizza. Lasagna was fresh and hot. Sausage was nice. One minor issue for me but could have been better: when we ordered appetizers we didn't know what we wanted for dinner yet. All the apps.looked.great so we wanted to try the variety for first visit a d really happy we did. The non pizza entres had fewer selections and thus we were unsure. But after apps and salad started to arrive we were ready to order dinner. The lasagna included a salad. I asked if the small Caesar we has ordered could just replace the entre salad. The waitress "wasn't sure". I could tell you that $6/dollars is.not a big deal overall but the simple gesture was more important towards service. In summary the hostess and bartender were great. Appetizers were really nice and tasty. Small salad was actually small to the point that the second entre salad was of use as my daughter was able finish the entre salad as well as her apps and dinner portions. The pizza was really fresh and on spot. Lasagna was hot and tasty. We will be coming back. This was our first visit but will now include as part of our routine rotation joints. read more

Decent pizza place in North admiral. We started with the ceci, and absolutely loved it. By then, things didn't live up to expectations and that great start. The pizza was very good. Many great neapolitan pizza places in Seattle, so the bar is high. We felt that the pizza here was above average, by comparison. read more

The bread is very good just with olive oil, as is the pizza, the crust is great. It's fun watching the cooks work with the wood stove. Love this place - it has become a go-to for my hubby and I. Always great pizza and great service. My favorite is the Quattro formaggio and the egg & pancetta pizza. I hate to leave such a negative review, but the responses you see on here from Jeremy the owner are what made me decide to do it as his claims of improving things appear to be empty words. We've been to Mioposto half a dozen times, with wildly differing experiences. Once, as a party of 4 we waited over two hours, no exaggeration. Yes, during a very busy time, however there were groups larger than our that came and went in that same window of time. The server was very apologetic and comped our entire meal, which was appreciated. At other times the food and service have been fine with no issues. However the most recent experience was truly unfortunate. We were a party of 9 that showed up around 12:30. With this size group I understand that you get what you get however there were only two other small groups at the time, which were wrapping up. Absolutely no problem getting a seat, and the server was friendly and attentive. She let us know that they were understaffed for the day, with only one person cooking. While this heads up is appreciated, it set off a warning light in my head and I should have listened. While there was almost no traffic in the restaurant, for the next 1-1/2 hours we: sent back food that contained raw eggs (I don't mean slightly under-cooked, I mean clear, runny eggs), waited on bread to be served that we had requested to be brought to the table before the food arrived, and we discovered that one persons meal hadn't been prepared because of miscommunication between the server and cook (when you see the cook look pissed because she realizes she needs to crank out some stromboli asap, you know somethings up). I say we "discovered" this because I had to go up to the server and ask if the meal hadn't been made because everyone else had received their food and was eating. She shot me a guilty look and then said, yes, it hadn't been made. So a big party didn't get all of their stuff, why such a negative review? For two reasons - first, the owner has said in some of his responses to other peoples reviews that they were going to improve their service, but it hasn't. Having your restaurant understaffed for brunch during the weekend is actually the opposite. Poor service always sucks, but understaffing is a management decision, and the customers are the ones who pay for it. My second reason - I would claim that the food is usually very good, but serving raw eggs floating on top of your food is a problem. Having given Mioposto multiple chances, I'm not going back. With the number of pizza places in West Seattle now as well as ones opening soon, I truly wonder if they'll be able to continue on. read more

I went to an early dinner here with some family. Wasn't expecting anything one way or the other, as far as quality. I just figured the pies sounded good. I was very pleasantly surprised. We ordered 4 pizzas between us, a Caesar salad and a carafe of table red during happy hour. Every pizza was excellent - kid's pepperoni, La Bianca, Le Patate Con Tartufo and Pinocchio. All totally different flavors, but with outstanding attention to detail and wonderful crust. Caesar salad was tasty and as it should be. Table red was good - I only had a sip of this, but it went with my La Bianca surprisingly well. I tried slices of the other pizzas and thought they were excellent as well. I would highly recommend Mioposto. Friendly service, very nice interior, excellent and delicious pizzas. All good things. read more

My boyfriend and I have been coming back here so many times I thought I should say something about this adorable place. First off, if you haven't tried you definitely should. We only have gone late at night but it's cute and candle lit, and can be packed at times. But their service has always been so nice and the wine options are great! We alwayssss get our own entree size caesar salsas (we love them so much!) then share a pizza, which are soooooo amazing! So much flavor plus they are from a wood fired oven! Yummy! P.s. I don't recommend taking their pizzas to-go because their crust is very thin so they can get soggy by the time you get home. Also great spot for large parties or small! read more

Posting here, because I couldn't find a contact email on miopostopizza.com-- would have preferred to contact directly with some thoughts I intend only to be helpful. We've been eating at the West Seattle Mio since it opened, enjoying dozens of meals-- HH, date nights, meals with friends and family-- spending thousands over the past few years. We've loved it, and it has been 'our place.' Couldn't say how many Spring Lambs and Pinocchios and Zucca Balsamicas and Margaritas we've put away. And the cocktails! We're probably in 2-3 times a month, at least. We have such clear memories of the early days after opening, because it felt like a restaurant that understood service finally came to West Seattle. Felt like we had gone to some other part of the city, though we live only a few blocks away. But over the past six months or so, and seemingly more acutely this summer, the experience has changed a lot. The most pronounced change is the service. It's now solidly mediocre, and often weirdly slow with odd comments from servers. More than a few times now, drink orders are taken, 10 minutes go by, and the server returns to take a food order while still no drinks. This happened just last night as we were taken care of by three servers at different points, two of whom we'd never seen before (one of whom kept mentioning, "Sorry, I'm new.") Drinks (one carafe of wine and two cocktails) took a very long time, then pizza was brought out while we were still eating salads; dessert menu was offered before we were done with pizza, and then our server returned to take our dessert order while all of our empty dinner dishes were still all over the table. He asked if we'd like "some of these plates cleared." We said, "Yes." The only real attentiveness throughout the meal was the question, "how's everyone doing on drinks," which, given service otherwise, just felt like an effort to raise our bill. This, plus barrel-aged cocktails (the manhattan is world-class) that are now at a price point that takes the fun out of it, plus the recent switch to a gas oven. The decision to no longer cook 100% with a wood fire is like swapping Coltrane's sax for a kazoo. Tragic loss of soul. All the pizza flavors are still there-- and they really are so good-- but the crust is rubbery now, not perfect as before. Quintessential bait-and-switch. We'll likely still visit Mio, because it remains our neighborhood's best pizza and we can walk there. And the happy hour is a great deal (reason you have to get there at 4 in the summer for a table). But there's sadness and frustration. Over time the service has done a 180 (there are a couple of servers who still do it right), prices have crept up at a noticeable rate, and... ugh... trading wood for gas. Someone needs to bring back the opening waitstaff or take a minute to teach the current crew what "I'll be taking of care you this evening" really means. My family loved this dinner! Professional, friendly service. Beautiful interior with an authentic wood stove. We found the Milanese Salad and Pinocchio pizza delicious and fresh. I would definitely order both of those again. Our kids loved having their own small pizzas. The crust is amazing; I love wood fired thin crust pizza. Another plus: they served my kids small juices for only $2.25 apiece, perfect. The only negative was the sound; the restaurant is incredibly loud all the time. Don't go to this restaurant expecting to have much of a conversation! Just go to eat delicious fresh high quality pizza! read more
