What made the experience even more memorable was the hospitality. The owner was there, took the time to chat with guests, and was incredibly kind. As a nice surprise, he even treated us to complimentary turon, which was such a thoughtful gesture and a perfect way to end the meal. It's little moments like that that make a restaurant stand out. Great food, warm hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere make Ludi's an easy recommendation for anyone visiting downtown Seattle. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town.

The ube pancakes lived up to the hype! not too sweet, perfect texture, and a flavor that was so perfect. The combo plate was amazing and I could eat a ton of their lumpia. Ambiance is homey and comfy, with photos all over the walls and a lively atmosphere. The owner himself came to chat with us about the food. We saw him walking around and being present with plenty of customers and that added a very special touch. he even gave us a magnet souvenir to take home. Both counter folks were personable and welcoming. I was able to sit at a two top and remain cool during my brief visit on that hot Tuesday early afternoon. They've been an indie (Cafe Hagen/Freya) that has expanded to many locations: here in SLU, two on Queen Anne, downtown on 5th, at Dexter, the Waterfront, Freya in Pike Place Market and Nordic Museum in Ballard, plus sites over in Bellevue and Kirkland. Easily found, easily parked (street parking only) easily seated (lucky as it is a cozy spot) and enjoyed everything about the visit. My wife loves the new location style and I can see this working for the urban hipster demographics that doesn't look for steak and baked potato. I believe Jak's use to be whole primal cuts--primarily Nebraska corn-fed beef--and committed to dry aging in-house for a full 28 days minimum. The new Brandt and Greater Omaha are perfectly fine steaks, respectable brands, but I think the steaks would be better if they were further dry aged and/or high heat seared. I can see the menu evolve to more of bistro food than a steak place in the future. That said, Happy Hour is definitely the sweet spot for me with reasonable prices and some great entrees. They have great drink options and good food combinations on the Happy Hour menu. If you're coming for casual drinks and bites it's a solid choice. If you're looking for that old-school steak dinner, it doesn't really hit the mark anymore and you need to switch to El Gaucho in Seattle that hits that mark.
