I am so disappointed that I have to write this review because I used to really like this place and recommended it all the time. But my most recent experience has me incredibly upset with the lack of care towards good service. A few weeks back I ordered food for delivery. When it arrived the lamb shawarma was completely raw and inedible. I've ordered it before and had never experienced that before. I called to see what could be done and the manager apologized and offered me a refund. I appreciated her immediate response towards a solution, but what I don't appreciate is that it's now been close to a month and there is still no refund! Initially, I gave it a few days and called back when I didn't see the refund and they asked me to email them a copy of the order (I made it through Grubhub), which I did immediately. Nothing happened. I then proceeded to email them several times and got NO RESPONSE ... until I called one last time and mentioned how rude it is that no one is even getting back to me. I could understand them needing time to figure out how to provide the refund--but to simply ignore me?!! That's not okay. After that last call I finally got a reply to my many emails ensuring me that they are working on it, but I have given up. And what makes me the most upset is the lack of communication and terrible customer service. I won't be going back. read more

Miriam is a very class, semi-upscale Middle Eastern restaurant with an inviting bar counter and mouth watering dishes! My hubby and I walked in without a reservation on a Sunday afternoon and were still able to be seated fairly quickly. Hubby ordered the Chicken Schwarma and I had the Middle Eastern Sambusak. While waiting, we couldn't help but notice that every other table had pitchers of water with mint sprigs in it. Coincidentally, we were also the only table of Asians in the whole restaurant. It was a strange observation, but I didn't want to assume the worst. We also finished the water and waited to see if they would replace it with a mint filled pitcher but it wasn't. The food was amazing!! Each of our plates came with a side of Israeli salad. There's nothing like bites of fresh cucumber, tomato, and onion to cleanse the palate. My Middle Eastern Sambusak was a closed pita stuffed with cheese and avocado. The pita was soft with a crispy exterior. Overall, it was a very nourishing brunch dish, and I ate it with bites of my eggs. My husband's chicken shwarma was brimming with grilled, charred flavor. All the blended spices melded to create a scintillating flavor. The chicken was so juicy and tender, made even more perfect with the tahini dipping sauce and the toum drizzle. For those who love spices and bold flavors in their food, the chicken shwarma is a must try. My brunch dish was a more mild dish, but still delicious, healthy, and light. I'd definitely stop by again if I was in the area. Maybe this time, I'd be embolded to ask for a pitcher of mint water :) read more

Finally had a chance to stop in to Miriam restaurant behind Beacon Theatre for an early dinner and I am in love with their Grilled Halloumi Cheese & Artichoke Heart Salad $16 for lunch/brunch and $18 for dinner. Ever since I started seeing a new naturopath who ordered me on a detailed anti-cancer deep nutrition diet (yes I've been busy with the big C all year) I've had to be very meticulous about what I eat. But Miriam's salad is packed with superfoods - baby arugula with string beans, walnuts, mushrooms. spritzed with walnut vinaigrette plus I can add a protein next time $10 chicken / $12 shrimp / $16 branzino. Okay the halloumi cheese is an indulgence but my doctor says I can eat dairy in moderation. We also ordered the Spiced Fall Vegetables $14 which came with roasted cauliflower, eggplant, carrots and squash over green tahini sauce. Green tahini sauce is delightful if you love sesame which I do! For two hungry girls on a health kick, the salad and roasted veggies along with a pot of tea and a latte were perfect. Next time I'm bringing my husband to help sample even more dishes. Service from the hostess to the table server is kind and caring and you cannot beat the location on the UWS. This place used to be an Indian restaurant, then a bakery and now Miriam! This is a great place to have a quick meal of "small plates" in the Middle Eastern/Mediterranean style and still get to a concert at the Beacon or walk briskly to Lincoln Center for the opera, the Beaumont Theatre and be in your seats on time without ever having to order an entree. The food is well prepared and professionally plated so that you are absolutely convinced that you ordered the right dish. The difficulty would be deciding which among the options to set aside for your next visit. The falafel was excellent (5 to the portion) and the grilled brussel sprouts were perfect with more than a hint of sweetness (definitely honey) and the amount was barely contained in the oval platter. The whole eggplant, enough to serve two or three, depending on whose fork got there first, was properly cooked, no metallic taste here, and served under an excellent white and yellow sauce. But the spanikopita was the absolute winner in our dinner last night. Served on a large plate was what seemed to be a pastry rose made of phyllo petals encasing a marvel of spinach, feta,etc placed on a roasted tomato sauce. The wine list was simple, touching on vineyards from the Mediterranean and closer to home, so anyone who needed alcohol would be well served. The prices for a single glass or a bottle were comparable to that charged by other restaurants in the upper west side neighborhood, meaning no real bargains. Ditto for the cost of the food, but on balance well worth it because the food is special. Our server was cordial, could explain how the different dishes were prepared and attentive to us during the meal. We felt well cared for. We were there for a 5:30 reservation for two which we hoped would give us enough time to get to Lincoln Center before the curtain went up and it worked. We had an unrushed meal (only the eggplant arrived late but then our small table could not have held all four dishes and the water carafe and our plates and utensils). Our table was in a remote corner of the restaurant, far from the crowded center aisle and banquet seating. Even that location proved very noisy as the restaurant filled up with other diners. There is nothing in the decor that would absorb the sounds from nearby diners plus there was less than discrete music playing above the conversations. This is not new to restaurants of this type throughout the city and patrons elevate their individual chats in an effort to be heard. We were glad to leave the restaurant and it would be the only negative in our returning again during the dinner hours. Perhaps breakfast or brunch would more likely be quieter, but definitely not on weekends. On balance, Miriam on the Upper West Side is worth a visit. Go. And go soon. read more

Miriam is a Mediterranean restaurant on the Upper West Side. The restaurant has an enclosed terrace outdoors. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful meal together. I had Lamb Shawarma Terracotta - baked flatbread with lamb, yellow rice, chickpeas, and tomatoes. It was such a unique dining experience as it was prepared right in front of me. Nice Middle Eastern / Mediterranean restuarant with quality food. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma, which was pretty tasty with lots of chicken and veggies on a fluffy flatbread. The sauce on the side was a bit too sour though. I also got the Flatbread starter, which, like the flatbread in the shawarma, was nice and soft and seasoned with oil and some herbs. The prices were a bit elevated but still reasonable ($28 for the shawarma and $4 for a couple pieces of flatbread). Interestingly, the menu had 3 pages of drink options and only 1 page of food, so the food options were a bit limited, relatively speaking. The restaurant itself is clean with a simple yet elegant design. There is dim lighting inside which leads to a more intimate atmosphere. There is lots of seating inside and some outdoor seating as well. There is also a comfortable amount of space between the tables, which I appreciated. The staff were friendly and moderately attentive. The service speed was pretty quick. We were seated right away without a reservation on a Sunday night. Overall, Miriam is on the slightly nicer end of Middle Eastern restaurants and the food is solid quality. It filled up really quickly, shortly after I arrived for my 5:15pm reservation. Because there was five of us, we really had the chance to sample the menu. Oh, and don't skip the cocktails, they are REALLY tasty. I started with a mezcal cocktail that had a slice of chocolate on top -- perfectly smokey and delicious. As for food... - Jerusalem bagel (get 2, trust me) - Grilled halloumi cheese and artichoke heart salad: delicious - Dipping plate: Odd that hummus isn't part of the dip, the matbucha was a personal fav of the trio - Hummus: must order item - Kadaif wrapped shrimp: heaven - Spiced fall vegetables: tasty eggplant - Lamb Shawarma: MUST order. They also stored my family's car seat out of the way so the area around our table wasn't crowded. They offered to do this without us even asking, which was very appreciated. I noticed a hiring sign on their front door so I wondered if they were understaffed, but was still confused because they only seemed 20-30% full at the time. I got the green shakshuka, and shared labneh + burekas with the table. The shakshuka was yummy, but I wished the eggs had been just a bit more runny. My first egg was runny, my second was jammy. It's possible the latent heat from the dish just ended up cooking my second egg more by the time I got to it though. I thought the tomatillos and poblanos would give the dish a sort of Mexican twist, but that was not the case. The flavor profile still felt Mediterranean. The burekas were delicious. The olive flavor was well balanced, and the burekas were soft but flaky as expected. A+ labneh and pita. Ive had some pretty bland labneh before, but this was not that. Subtle, but flavorful. The staff are attentive and responsive, and the food is fresh and flavorful. We were seeing a show at the Beacon Theater, so I needed a spot to have dinner before the show. After some Yelp searching, I decided on Miriam. X and I are huge Mediterranean food fans, so this was perfect. I made reservations a few weeks out, which I highly recommend. The restaurant was absolutely packed during our entire time there. Despite being packed, we were able to get in/out within 1.5 hours and our waitress was great. I had the Chicken Shawarma platter and X had their lamb shawarma that came in a huge pita bowl. Both were fantastic - super flavorful and full of spices. We also split an order of their honey beets and they were so good. The little fried goat cheese balls were phenomenal. For dessert, we tried their Kunafe, which was very good. If you're in the area for a show - or even if you're seeing a show down at Lincoln Center, Miriam is absolutely a solid and great choice. read more

This place is awesome. If you are heading to the Beacon Theater for a show, this is the place to hang out while you wait. It's very light, bright and airy. Yet the textured walls, wood accents and plants on the walls make it feel cozy. We started with drinks and they were awesome. There are some creative, Mediterranean inspired options to choose from. I swear I had the best espresso martini of my life here! I think they add a cinnamon syrup to it that complimented the coffee perfectly and did not make it taste like Red Hots or Big Red gum, as you might expect. We got an assortment of meze to share. I loved them all except for the Pomegranate meatballs. They were a little too dry and lacking in flavor for me. Otherwise, the shrimp kadaif, warm hummus, lentil croquettes and Brussels sprouts were all excellent. My favorite was the shrimp. It's located on the corner of 74th and Amsterdam and has been busy every time I've passed by. By the time we arrived around 1pm, the place was packed, so we sat at the bar. The tables were set up quite close to each other, so we were happy to have more space at the bar. They had a range of Mediterranean and Israeli brunch dishes around $20+ each and we ordered: - Falafel Platter ($20+) - Chicken Shawarma ($21+) Overall, the food was delightful and I loved the Falafel Platter. The falafels were crispy on the outside and light and flavorful inside. The hummus and pita bread that came with it were delicious, too. I didn't enjoy the Chicken Shawarma as much (it felt more average), but it was still good. The only downside is the price--brunch in general has a status and you're there for the whole experience, so $20+ is average for a brunch. However, while the food was amazing, it is pricey for what you actually get. They do have more dishes on their dinner menu, so I'm keen to try them, hopefully soon. read more

Indoor and outdoor seating available, and since we were not picky, we were seated outside, where heat lamps kept the tent nice and cozy. Loved the vibe of this restaurant. The bar was super aesthetic and vibey. The lights were dim & there were florals and vines hanging which is always so pretty. The staff was very friendly when we walked in and our server was very sweet. Wish I got her name.
