Tried out the sukiyaki don today, and it did not disappoint, especially for the price of $9. While lacking in creativity, this meal was quite delicious and filling. The sukiyaki comes with fried tofu, some noodles, thinly sliced beef and some green onion topped over rice. A sweet soy sauce is also drizzled over the meal for flavor. There are a bunch of other items worth trying, including the pork cutlet curry, and some of the other don bowls. My husband and I came here to check out the food court. The supermarket is pretty empty. You will see that everyone that walks in goes straight to the food court for the food. We got there before 6:30pm and it was already pretty busy there. My husband went to order Santouka while I went to try Misasa. Some dishes come with a disclaimer that the dish may look different than the (plastic) one displayed. This doesn't make sense as the plastic food is meant for you to choose the food you want...?! The result, I ordered #10 KaKiage shrimp with vegetables $7.50 and I get a big bowl of rice and 5 less shrimp than the plastic dish had. And I'm not sure a bunch of tempura onion and a few "bits" of green beans counts as vegetables. So, with a dissatisfied belly I went back up to order more food. Since the other restaurants were closed I went back to Misasa and got the beef udon $6.95. This plastic matched the dish. Thank you! Suggestion - just change the price on #10 so you can deliver the dish as immortalized in plastic. Better than keeping prices low and be stingy on the shrimp. So yummy! It here are a lot of great options here, but I always gravitate toward the curry. Comfort food! The plate with the salad is only .55 cents more--so worth it. Adds a lightness to the meal and the ginger dressing is good! (It's in a self-serve bottle near the counter.) For the generous portion of the meal (the plate is huge!! It cover the entire tray!), it's a reasonable price. My only complaint is that they close so early! Yelp shows 8:30pm as closing time, but there is a sign at the counter that says they close for dinner at 7:00 pm. The posted hours are: 11:00-1:00 for lunch and 4:30-7:00 for dinner. This place is open from 11:00AM-7:00PM. I arrived at 6:50PM and was the only one in line. The employee at the cash register just stood there handing out to-go orders without looking my direction once, even though I was less than 4 feet from him. My favorite go-to place in the Mitsuwa food court. I know people would argue with me about Santouka - but sometimes that line is too long and the service at Misasa is great! Everybody that's helped me has been really nice and makes me feel a little bit better since I usually come here by myself on my lunch breaks. I like both their soba and udon choices (not particularly the tempura one though - too much fried for me - the rest are good!) Also good for to-go orders. They pack everything so nicely! Came here for a quick dinner the other night. Misasa is located in the Mitsuwa marketplace food court. Definitely a much smaller food court than the Costa Mesa location. Best place to park is in the rear entrance which leads right into the food court. I was feeling some katsu curry, so I ended up going for the katsu don with soba combo. The katsu don bowl was pretty tasty and the soba was pretty good too. Nothing extraordinary, but still solid. Other than there being very little amount of seating in the food court and having to hawk around for a table, pretty good experience overall and a nice spot to hit if you're limited for time. It's been a long time since the last time I have food here. They haven't change much, today I decided to try something different than my favorite Sukiyaki Bowl, which was Tempura Soba. Fyi, you can also choose Udon Noodle instead of Soba. Order two tempura soba for $17.83 and got them after just 5-10 minutes which was pretty fast as usual. Most people come here for pork katsu or curry rice but i suggest not to play it safe and open yourself for other options. I was right for picking something different. The soba got shredded seaweeds on top and lots of tempura. The dipping sauce was more than Oki Doki too, the portion was actually plentiful. Sauce was slightly more salty than the soba place I used to try. Soba was chewy, but kinda watery since they just boil it. Tempura was good and very crispy. I wish they do a rice bowl combo option with the soba. I know they have rice bowl combo with a small soba but not the other way around though! One more crucial thing is with cold soba, we need the boiling broth to drink the leftover sauce at the end but they don't offer it here, kinda disappointing since it's a traditional way of eating cold soba! read more

Was running late and need food quickly. Misasa sounds like a good choice. Got the wafu hamburg plate. When it came, unlike Miyabi in Costa mesa, it was a pile of mess. I have been to santouka a bunch of times and absolutely love their spicy miso ramen. Each time I have been to santouka I feel like they are calling out numbers for misasa more that santouka. For a long time I have been wanting to try something from misasa but have never been able to pull myself from the awesome ramen at santouka. Finally, one day we decided to try misasa. I got their special which was udon and a small bowl of poke. The poke was ok, didn't seem like the freshest fish but was definitely edible. My biggest problem was with the udon. This was a complete disappointment! It was bland and lacked any distinct or good flavor. The noodles were fine but I just couldn't get over how boring the broth was. I also split the pork cutlet bowl with my wife and that was quite delicious. I liked whatever brown sauce was over the rice. It was slightly sweet and salty which in combination with the fried pork, made quite a tasty dish. I like this place because it reminds me of small restaurants in Japan where the food is displayed outside and it's mostly dishes that most people don't know about because everyone thinks Japanese food is only sushi and ramen. I've been coming here regularly for years, now. I'm not sure how or why there are so many negative reviews. It's a lot of food for very cheap, tastes delicious, and the staff is incredibly friendly as long as you're polite. Sometimes they're a bit distracted, so you might have to speak up if you approach during their less busy times. The food is done within minutes, and if you're a regular, the employees do their best to remember your face and greet you accordingly. My two favorite dishes are their Chicken Teriyaki bowl and their Egg Flour Udon. Both are fantastic regardless of whether you get in-house or to-go, and are a lot of food for a very fair price. I came over for lunch and the wait can be long around noon. Their service is quick and food is made to order usually. I had the pork cutlet with curry here and the rice was a bit hard but pricing is unbeatable. For only about $8, you get a whole place of curry and rice along with katsu pork cutlet.. What a deal?! There's many options here around the same price too! Also, I would say NOT to get the grilled mackerel fish if you don't want to keep picking bones out of it. There's quite a few dishes to choose from, such as noodle dishes, curry, and katsu. They have great tempura, and their dishes taste authentically Japanese. The combos are a nice way to try different items and get your fill. The wait time was not that quick, but it was okay. Cash only. Prices are reasonable for what you get. My wife and I wanted to be a bit more adventurous yesterday evening, and decided to skip Santouka Ramen (one of our favorites) and try out next-door Misasa instead. The shop is located inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court, and like the other vendors, accepts only cash. They have displays showcasing the various meals available for order. I picked up the Chicken Egg Bowl, and my wife the Misasa Bento Special. The Chicken Egg Bowl was initially delicious and moist -- but as I dug deeper into the rice, it was quite dry and forgettable. Don't know why the ratings are so low, but this is a pretty decent place to get a decent fix of Japanese food. They have a lot of dons (rice with different stuff on top), different types of fish, udon, soba, small dishes, and the best--bento boxes! Maybe it's because it's being compared to Miyabi-Tei in Costa Mesa, but there aren't very many places that have a nice selection of traditional Japanese food, especially one that's grab and go. When I go, I usually get the bento box with sashimi and tempura. This comes with mixed vegetables, miso soup, sashimi, rice, and assorted tempura. It's of decent quality. The miso soup is a pretty good way to start off your meal. It's nice and hot when you get it, and it has the nice fresh miso flavor. The mixed vegetables are like the ones you would find during traditional Japanese meals, which is nice. I then alternate between the sashimi and tempura. The sashimi is pretty fresh, and the radish that it comes with pairs extremely well with the sashimi. The tempura comes out a bit oily sometimes, but if you dab it with a napkin, it's fine. It's fried food, and it comes out fast, so no complaining. The tempura is pretty decent quality as well. It's crunchy for the most part and not soggy like some tempura comes out to be. It's quick, tasty, and traditional Japanese food at a decent price. Can't complain too much about that! read more
