Finally a ramen spot in JC! I was so excited, until I tried the food. So lets start from the beginning, I after there for dinner after a long shift at the hospital with my SO. Relatively empty on a Tuesday night, only one other table occupied. We were seated quickly. So I went with the scallion pancakes (Free check in item), and the seafood ramen and my SO went with the chicken ramen. Both ramen's had the miso chicken broth, which was decent. Nothing spectacular about it, tasted like box broth I could have made it home & saved $30 with. The ramen was cooking al dente, nothing to complain about, however I was expecting soft and decadent noodles. Seafood ramen: It basically was the box mix, with the boxed ramen, with boiled seafood. I was expecting a little bit more than 1 shrimp and 2 pieces of mussels for the $16 price tag though. Chicken ramen: My SO is the easiest person to feed so he ate it happily, however his one complaint was that it was a bit bland. Scallion pancakes: A little bit oily, but absolutely amazing! #1 reason why this this place got an extra star was because of this pancakes. I give props to the store opener for trying to open a ramen spot in JC, but please for the prices you're asking for, deliver a little better. I probably will not be back as there is an amazing place near my job in Montclair and I was lazy to drive, but never again, going to remain loyal to "AR", super worth the drive and price. Like many others, I was excited to hear about Miso Ramen opening up in downtown JC. An "authentic" ramen spot had yet to make its presence, and after hearing that the chef hailed from Japan and hardly spoke a word of English, I started counting down the days until their anticipated opening. Miso Ramen is optimally located along the busy stretch of restaurants and bars along Newark Avenue. The interior boasts a number of two-tops and counter seats, as well as several larger tables for groups and families. Seating is walk-in only; while lengthy waits were the norm shortly after opening, it doesn't appear to be an issue of late, especially as the restaurant is relatively large. Ideally, though, it's better suited for smaller groups, especially given the nature of the food served. As promised, Miso Ramen serves up a number of traditional ramen bowls, as well as a handful of unique ones. There's the standard Chashu and Pork options, as well as a Kalbi Ramen and an enticing "Wild Pepper Spicy Ramen" - quite a draw for those who are fellow capsicum lovers. They all come with a handful of toppings, including menma, scallions, kikurage mushrooms, and a nitamago (soft-boiled egg), which several ramen-yas will charge extra for. I ordered the Chashu Ramen on my visit here, and was presented with a well-sized bowl of noodles submerged in an opaque broth, topped with three slices of pork belly, a nitamago egg half, sesame seeds, bamboo, scallions, mushrooms, and a dash of black garlic oil. The broth, which I believe is made from a base of chicken and pork bones, was creamy and rich with just the right amount of seasoning, and resembled a traditional tonkotsu base. What threw me off, however, were the noodles used; they actually appeared to be more like the Shanghai noodles used in Chinese soup dishes, and lacked the chew and alkalinity necessary in a ramen dish. That, coupled with a tougher texture on the chashu, made for a less than impressive bowl. Miso Ramen has since added on a number of sides and appetizers and have expanded their operating hours. While I've had a fair number of ramen bowls that I'd deem as better, I wouldn't turn down the opportunity to return and try one of their more creative concoctions, if only for the convenient location. read more

I dined here on a Saturday around 7pm the restaurant was packed so the wait was expected. I was impressed by the interior of the restaurant it was very nicely decorated and quite roomy. Service was good and the owner greeted us warmly explaining in detail the food on the menu. The food arrived promptly and we ordered 3 side dishes, the scallion pancake had a little spicy flavor that I was not expecting. The pork bun taste was overpowered by the bun and needed more flavor in the meat. The pork dumpling was great & done very well. Marbled pork is deliciously fatty, and the kalbi is good. Individual toppings are solid, but there's a lot to improve: noodles taste a bit undercooked (not springy, undercooked); tonkotsu broth is heavy and gelatinous and not porky and rich like better tonkotsu broths; and service is awkward (servers seem to overlap sections, a soapy spoon was delivered to our table, the server couldn't remember which order was less spicy when he delivered it). This feels like a trendy place that hasn't learned how to be sticky yet. It's newness makes it appealing, but the food is just okay. There aren't many other ramen places in Jersey City, so the bar is lower than in NYC, but this place could be really great! We were in Jersey city, looking for sustenance on a chilly Sunday evening and we happened upon Miso Ramen. Who can turn down ramen when it's cold and blustery out? That unctuous broth just warms up the old bones, you know? Miso Ramen did not disappoint. My boyfriend got the Beef stew ramen and I got the extra spicy chashu pork ramen, both were absolutely delicious. Not too salty. Not too rich. Just hot soup goodness. The noodles were perfectly cooked too. Not too soggy and not too firm. Gosh, I sound like a ramen goldilocks here. Why 4 stars and not 5, you ask? Well, there was a fruit fly that kept flying around us. No matter what we did, we couldn't catch the bugger. The waiter even came over and apologized about our winged intruder. He said that the management has tried everything but they cant seem to rid themselves of the fly problem. The place seemed impeccably clean. You pass by the open kitchen on the way to the bathroom and everything seemed to be on the up and up, a Department of Health "A" rating, so to speak. Host: He smiled and informed me that it would be a 10-15 minute wait. BAM! Got me a table for 2 in 5 mins! Waiter/waitresses: they were friendly, but they were definitely off. We received our ramen about 25 minutes after ordering, which isn't that bad, but the owner apologized stating he knows we waited awhile, which means he wanted the food out faster. I also noticed they would forget about some of the tables, which happened to the table beside us- they waited 40 minutes until the host noticed and checked in with the kitchen. They finally got their ramen 10 minutes later. (Yep! We timed it since they ordered about the same time we did and the owner actually came out and apologized to them as well.) Also, they seemed a bit slow clearing the tables and since the host is dealing with the people waiting, he would step in sometimes to speed things up. Food: pork buns were okay. The pork and the bun itself weren't as soft as I'd like. The Oxtail Ramen would've been an hour wait so I opted for the Chasu Ramen in the Tonkatsu broth. The broth was pretty good. As a whole, I'd give it almost 4 stars. Boyfriend had the Pork Ramen in the Miso broth and he says he'd give it 3 stars. The Tonkatsu broth was definitely better than the Miso broth btw. Overall: 4 stars since there's no 3.75 stars. We went here earlier than our usual dinner time and were lucky enough to be the last people to be seated without a wait. You come in here at 6:20 pm on a Saturday, and have to wait for 15 mins. Check out the negative reviews to date and you'll notice a trend - a lot of complaining about long waits or getting turned away. I had the same experience opening night. That's what happens when you go to a small restaurant opening week. This isn't rocket science! When I went back and was actually qualified to rate the food and service, I enjoyed the meal. Yes, there's room for improvement on overall taste when comparing against the best places around, but the food is certainly in the "good/enjoyable" category - add on the BYOB and suddenly it's a great deal, in my opinion. This is on my list to try from the Downtown Jersey City food scene. Short walk from the PATH and across the street from an ATM. They've got a nice prime spot. Nice clean decor. Neat and woodsy finish. Exposed brick walls are a nice touch. We got there before it was busy so no line. I can tell they are expecting a lot of people for a Thursday night, always a good sign. Ordered the veggie ramen. It came with a seaweed broth. Presentation was good. All the bowls are the same. I sort of like having a different bowl for different types of ramen. I came here on a Thursday Night. We got sat down quick because we just sat at the bar. They do not have alcohol, but I believe it is BYOB. The interior looks nice and the ambience was chill. We started off with the pork buns. I wasn't impressed by it. Something about the bun was not good and I do not like the pork part they used. It is definitely different from other ramen joints, but I would stick with the Pork Belly when it comes to these kind of buns. The bun as well was it bit tougher than what I am used to. We've been coming here since it opened. The food is always consistently good. They make their noodles in-house, and it shows. We eat a lot of ramen, and we still compare this place's noodles to everywhere else we go. The wild pepper spicy is my favorite thing on this menu, and if you ask them very nicely, they'll kick up the heat one to several notches. My wife's go-to is the chashu, which unsurprisingly is a pork broth served with several slices of their delightful chashu. Prices are much more reasonable than a lot of of other ramen shops around NY and NJ, averaging around $12-13. They usually include a marinated soft-boiled egg, which is the part that makes my heart sing. I've been waiting to try this place for months! I saw the sign go up early fall about a ramen place opening up and I was extremely excited. When I saw that it opened a few weeks ago, I knew I had to make my way over here. The decor is nice, very clean and modern looking with a touch of Asian accents. Our waiter must have been new because when we asked for Gyoza as an appetizer, he wasn't too sure what we meant. I ordered the Chasu ramen with the Tonkatsu broth and Gary ordered the Pork ramen with the Tonkatsu broth. We're both not a fan of miso. I enjoyed the Chasu ramen, the pork was good, the broth was nice and the noodles were perfect. My ramen did have a slight sour odor to it at first, but after a few minutes, it didn't bother me. My boyfriend enjoyed his ramen as well, but he liked the pork in my dish much better than his. The gyoza though was delicious, it was perfection. Although they were dinged for service opening week, I thought the service was great - quick, attentive, maybe even bordering on obsessively hovering. First off, the food was solid. Me and the lady had chasu and kalbi ramen. Started the meal off with the Pork buns, tasty overall but pork was too overdone and on the saltier than need be side Chasu miso ramen was what you'd expect, thick broth, tasty noodles decent roasted pork. 3.5/5 Kalbi ramen isn't too spicy, very tasty broth with nice veggies (bamboo sprouts and mushrooms). The kalbi beef tasted similar to what id find in a Szechuan style beef broth noodles so I wasn't impressed w that, the broth though was really good. We lucked out coming here on a Friday night before 7pm as around 730 it went from a 20 minute wait to an hour wait!
