This place is absolutely fantastic. Came here on accident thinking it was some other restaurant that someone recommended, but ended up staying because we were too hungry to move. The inside has a rather nice ambiance and calming decor. Of course, I didn't pay too much attention to that in my current state of hunger. There was one person who was doing everything short of cooking, including cleaning and orders, so he was scrambling everywhere but surprisingly did a good job. The food was very satisfying. I had the spicy tofu soup, which on the menu was only offered in a seafood version, but I asked the waiter to switch it out with beef (which they said was fine). The taste was spicy (of course) but still flavorful. There were plenty of sides served as well. I had a taste of other dishes such as the katsu and the bibimbap, and both were pretty good as well. Had dinner here for the first time last night and I was impressed. Now that I know how good it is I don't think I will miss Rosie's Pho (which used to occupy this space) as much. It's a little expensive, but the food and service is good enough that we will be returning. The miso soup was great and for such a simple soup I was surprised how much better theirs is than other places. I guess it should be great though, given the name of the restaurant. However, $2.50 for a small bowl (a la carte price) is a little too much. The Ahi Tuna Tower was good too, but the best dish of the night was the Grilled Mackerel. My girlfriend and I both love mackerel and this was easily the best we've ever had. It was grilled to perfection and easy to eat. Sometimes there are a lot of small bones in mackerel that are difficult to remove or eat around, but not with the piece that we were served. I will definitely order this again. The restaurant and bathrooms are clean. I wouldn't call it upscale, but they definitely made some improvements since Rosie's Pho left the space. The design is more modern and the music was good too, just the right volume. I am a sucker for bulgogi and totally rate a restaurant by that, but.....The SQUID DISH CAUGHT MY EYE!!! I just could not take my eyes off the idea and my belly shouted, "you must try!!!" I ordered it. My expectations were exceeded and I had no choice, but to finish this deliciously savory dish. My family loved their dish as well. We would definitely come back and try something else. My brother, who is a chef. Did not say a word....hint that he likes it. He usually starts tearing the dish apart. Must try for sure! He is nota picky eater, more particular. He can enjoy fast food and other stuff, but always has to critique the texture, flavors, aroma, et al. The parking lot is large and we did not have to wait on the weekend. Hint: we did go later. I've been in the La Frontera area many times throughout the years and I just recently found out about this place! My sister and I came in around noon on a Saturday and were promptly seated. The place had a traditional vibe, soothing classical background music, and an overall nice ambience. Instead of thinking with our brains, we thought with our stomaches and ended up over ordering. -Okonomiyaki @ $13: it was nice watching the bonito flakes flutter for a couple of seconds, but the taste was somewhat disappointing. The first bite started out alright; it tasted like takoyaki in pancake form, had nice crunch from the cabbage, the batter was light, and it had a nice mixture of shrimp and squid. As time went on, it just got saltier with every bite and I ended up downing a whole glass of water before the main dish even arrived. -Dosolt Bibimbap @ $12: the taste and presentation was pretty standard- rice in a hotstone topped with various assorted vegetables, meat, and a raw egg yolk. I'm a big fan of the crispy rice stuck on the bottom of the hotstone, so I usually let it sit for a bit. I felt like it was lacking some flavor and ended up drenching my bibimbap in quite a bit sauce. -Mandookook + Rice Cakes @ $12: the rice cakes were soft and mildly chewy, but somewhat bland. I really liked the pulled meat and meaty flavor from the dumplings, but the skin was so thin, it started falling apart. They serve on a sizzling hot plate (like fajitas) w/ white rice and various cold sides (my favorites are spicy cucumbers and kimchi). We did apocalypse delivery for our 15th anniversary. Miso combo is a decent deal at $55. We're both so full. It included sashimi and nigiri of chefs choice plus two rolls. Its was excellent! Wasabi and soy sauce was included which literally made it a full meal from a box. The quality of the fish was great. I'd say the only down side was some of our sashimi was cut very strangely which seems odd if they have professional sushi chefs. It was about .5 inches wide and had several deep cuts across the top. It was still super fresh and melt in your mouth though. We normally order from Miso but this is our first sushi experience from there. Aside from an odd dish like fajitas, I've never had anything from there that was bad. For lunch, they have a great Bento Box option. Uniquely, it comes with your choice of boiling hot Korean soup, miso soup, etc. banchan and a sizzling plate of chicken, beef, galbi, etc. I think here, Sugar Pine and Odaku would be my recommendations for lunch set in Austin. As for the sushi, we've had sashimi and the UN bunch of times and aside from the "fake" wasabi that most restaurants serve, it always comes fresh. If you usually get the Rainbow Roll, opt for the UN. It's an entirely upgraded version since there are three types and color roe. Kim Chi Bacon Fried Rice is the filler if you're concern about still being hungry after sushi. Because I love their Kim Chi (they're not as sour as the ones that come straight from a store-bought jar) I really like the acidity against the fattiness of the bacon - it tastes actually like well-flavored sliced pork shoulder/belly. Service can be a bit "slow" and I say it with quotations because, in most Korean restaurants, the culture is to simply flag down your waiter when you need something. This was the first Korean restaurant I tried after moving to Austin and have absolutely loved the food each time I went. I don't believe I have ever had a bad experience. It is a smaller restaurant so tables fill up quickly but the servers are always friendly. I usually get donkatsu or dolsot bibimbap. All the food I have tried tastes pretty close to authentic. We came back again during the holidays. The food was very delicious and on point. We got two adult meals and they let us split a kids meal since our kids don't each much at times. However one kids plate was enough for our two little ones. The staff here are always welcoming. They updated the place since our last visit. It's very elegant and modern inside. Very conveniently located if you live in the Round Rock area, as it's right off of I-35. My friend and I went for lunch, and I got the Dolsot Bibimbap with Kimchi Stew while she got the Sushi and Roll #2. Food came out very quickly, with both of us getting served a small but tasty salad first. The salad wasn't creamy, so it was nice and light before our main meals. The Dolsot Bibimbap came out sizzling, and the vegetables inside were very tasty. The side dishes that came with the meal were also very flavorful, so they disappeared quickly too. However, the kimchi stew was pretty disappointing, as the kimchi didn't seem to be of very good quality, and I think they skimped out on adding softer tofu/gochujang/doenjang/other flavorful ingredients, so it ended up just tasted sour. I used this as an opportunity to eat some Korean food locally since my favorite place is in Austin and I couldn't wait since we were hungry. I have been here a few times and the food was not disappointing. The first few times I was here, I usually get the salad bibimyun. That's always been on point and good. The last time I came here I had soup and tonight I went with soup (spicy soft tofu soup). I asked if they could make the soup extra spicy. To me, it could have been spicier but the soup hit the spot. The soup broth had good flavor. My friend enjoyed her galbi and sushi roll. As far as banchan (side dishes), they give you a few pieces in one dish. We had to ask three times for a refill. There are four of us so the struggle was real. The first time, they only gave us specific dishes we asked for and the second time she gave us one of each side dish. I don't blame them since they probably don't want people wasting it, but we are down with all of the side dishes. All of the sides were pretty tasty. I am always skeptical to try places that are both korean and japanese food. I always feel like they try to be a "jack of all trades", but not specialized in anything. Miso was a pleasant surprise. I came at lunch time and tried a dolsot bibimbap, sexy lazy roll, and a spicy tuna roll. The bibimbap came with a choice of Jigae (korean soup) and also a few banchan items. Everything tasted fresh, and the spicy tuna was some of the best I have tasted in awhile. Lately I have been totally turned off by Spicy Tuna because most places have made a warm gooey paste out of the tuna which isn't appealing at all. Miso's spicy tuna was not this way at all. My only possible suggestions. No Korean meal should come without a healthy portion of Kim Chi. I was not served any. My favorite part of a Dolsot Bibimbap is the crispy rice that sticks to the clay pot that you have to scrape off with a spoon. This one could have porbably been cooked a little longer to get that crisp, just on the edge of burnt rice. "Miso" just opened up. It is the famous soup born in Japan but also, it means "smile" in Korean. Located at the old "Rosie's Pan Asian noodle", this hard-to-notice restaurant just opened up in my neighborhood so I decided to check it out. Since my work place is VERY close and could not find a decent Korean restaurant nearby, opening of this restaurant was a great news for me. Since I am a Korean, I could be a harsh judge of my mother country's own cuisine(I love cooking Korean food myself), but this place definitely satisfied my expectations and some more. I tried their Pork Katsu, recommended by the owner, who is the only server on floor at the moment. I tried many Pork katsu variations in my life, but this one really topped my list. The pork was tenderized enough, and the best part was the sauce. Unlike any generic katsu sauce available in store, they cooked up their own sauce which had more rich, creamy taste to it. I have been here 3 times this week, and I already ordered this dish 2 times. I highly recommend it. Lunch Special: they offer 5 "tray specials" ranging from $10.50 to $12.50. It comes with tofu salad, rice, daily 3 side dishes and your choice of soup(either spicy tofu or kimchi). The term "tray" threw me off a little at first, but when it came out, it was almost like the bento box you would get from other Korean/Japanese restaurants but with little dishes. I had ordered a beef bulgogi tray special with spicy tofu soup and it hit the spot like no other, just like my mom's cooking(Mmmmm). Additionally, lunch menu included three bibimbab options(vegetarian, beef or dolsot-which is served in clay pot). Full(Dinner) Menu: they have "typical" soup/salad/appetizer options. One notable appetizer dish would be kimch/seafood pancake. Glazing through the menu, the one category that caught my attention was their "signature plate" which included Okonomiyaki(so good), Bulgogi Slider, seafood cheese dukboki(spicy rice cake stir-fried with seafood), and bossam(marinated pork with vegetables). Noodle Option: Today, I tried their bibimkuksu which is a spicy buckwheat noodle dish, also recommended by the owner. A bit too spicy for me but if you are a spicy food enthusiast, I highly recommend this bad boy. It has that wasabi-ish kick in your nostril which is probably from mustard oil but that's just my opinion. They also offer jjampong(spicy seafood noodle), Udon, yakisoba, japchae, and miso ramen. Other: they offer traditional korean soup such as kimch stew and yookgaejang. Next time, I want to try their sashimi bibimbob(a.k.a. Hoiduhbob) which is one of my favorite korean food. I guess... I can no longer use the "miso horny" joke in respect for this place. Instead, I will say "miso hungry~~~~" Pros: Great taste, good price, good "Korean" lounge music, and good service(so far). Miso makes us happy. As our neighborhood favorite, it always seems to be the first place someone thinks of, or what we all immediately agree on. For us, its a Korean place in the greater Austin area that doesn't underwhelm. Some of the signature dishes are Texas-sized and typically we get our fill with leftovers. [What we consistently order/enjoy] 1.The pork katsu: that son of a monster is like chicken fried steak-sized with a good meat to breading ratio (pretty meaty). Took me forever and day to finish the first time. House salad always fresh. 2.Banchan (side dishes)- are ok. Really depends on what's the side of the day since they seem to switch a few options out. I don't believe I've ever seen the braised mackerel here, or my favorite Koreanized potato salad. The sides are so essential since they ARE the meal, rather as something additional. 3.Jap chae- usually we enjoy this as a side, but they offer it on the menu as a stand alone plate. Portions are a lot, and its pretty good. 4.Bibimbap- Delicious. Filling. Solid choice. 5.Sweet & Spicy chicken- the team likes this, but I think its fair. Its crispy, sweet/zesty, and can go great with lunch for work. [Extras] -The volcano roll is not bad at all! I used to LOVEEE this place, it was my go to restaurant and I would eat here at least once a week. I enjoyed their bentos, mandoo and chicken teriyaki. The service ther was great, everyone was very nice but staff seemed a little over worked and understaffed but personally I didn't mind. I'm going to be honest I always look at Yelp before trying a restaurant just to see what the food looks like and see if there is any helpful information. I did see a few review about roaches but they seemed like they were from a while ago so I thought maybe it wasn't a problem in the restaurant anymore....NOPE... I was wrong. After a few months of going there on a regular basic I was sitting in one of the booths in the middle of eating my bento box . When my boyfriend sees a ROACH on the wall near the soy sauce. He picked is it up and throws it in a trash can without making a scene. I personally can't do bugs, but I avoided making a scene because we really did love this restaurant. After that we both just lost our appetite, and tried leaving as quickly as we could. When the waiter came to pick up our check we discreetly told her about the incident ( just so they knew, which they probably did but it could save a Karen from seeing it and yelling at them idk) , the waiter was very apologetic about the incident. I understand things happen and bugs are part of nature and get into restaurants, but seeing other reviews on this same problem makes me think of the sanitary measures this restaurant neglects to take . Regardless the sympathy we feel for this restaurant have not been there since. For a little background knowledge, as someone who works in the food industry I know that seeing bugs especially roaches is not normal and a very bad sign especially if you see a roach during the day. Cockroaches are nocturnal creature, seeing them at day time looking for food is a sign of an infestation. Miso - This is very similar to what I saw in the restaurant except the roach was bigger - Japanese Near Me - Round Rock, Texas

We couldn't decide if we wanted sushi or Mexican. My old lady has never had Korean and we had this spot bookmarked, let's do it!! Walking in it smelled a little funny, like old cleaning rags. It was completely empty, uh oh bad sign. We did arrive after lunch rush though. The atmosphere was nice though, modern and clean. We look over the menu and order seafood pancake to start, I advised I'm allergic to eggplant. She brings it out and says they didn't use egg, I told her egg was fine it's the plant one that kills me. lol, honest mistake, she took it back and they re cooked it with egg, man oh man!! Amazing way to start your meal. Highly recommend it. For main dish I got the spicy pork bulgogi and my wifey got the Hawaiian chicken. The pork is slammin, so flavorful and spicy. Comes with four side dishes, veggie pancake, spicy cucumber, fish cake, potato. Rice was also included and a miso soup. The miso was luke warm and so so. But the rest was awesome!! The Hawaiian chicken was good as well but I'm sure Dani L. will describe it better than I would since I only had a tiny bite. Service was great our waitress was very apologetic about the egg/eggplant thing lol. Prices here are very reasonable. Going to frequent this place for sure! read more
