Made a list of places that I would like to try in Medford and after flipping a coin, decided on Misoya Bistro. Arrived a few minutes after they opened and ordered some Bulgogi, Teriyaki Chicken, Sushi Mix, and Tempura. Did not personally like the dressing on my salad nor did I enjoy the tempura. Neither did my mom who came along with me. What we did agree though was that the Bulgogi, Chicken, and Sushi were great. Her teriyaki was just spicy and teriyaki enough while the bulgogi was a nice mix of meat and veggies, and while not the best in town, it was still great. Our server, forgot his name, was also friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend. read more

Joined the after-church, Sunday crowd. Were able to get a nice table on their patio. Service was prompt. Ordered a "custom meal" (sorry) but the staff pulled it together for me. Meal featured the teriyaki chicken -- which was very good. Wife had one of the dinner salads, which was also very good. Both plates were HUGE (doggie bag required). Two complaints keep this from being a four/five-star seating for me. First was the pick-up truck immediately next to the seating area and parked next to our table. At first I just thought a careless citizen left it there on the brick patio. Then I learned that it belonged to one of the owners of the restaurant. How arrogant to think that their parking space was more important than their customer's dining environment! Who wants to eat lunch in a parking lot?!? And second, it took FOREVER for them to get us our check so we could pay at the end of the meal. After 30 minutes, we got up and went inside to pay only to be told we needed to wait at our table. Our first visit, I dined in with a friend and our kids. I was very happy with the salmon bento box and gyoza--which even my picky toddler ate!--but the service wasn't great. Not really terrible, but not great, either. I'd kept going back for takeout against my better judgement, because I really do like the food. I would usually pass on returning to a restaurant where the service didn't really meet my standards, but I figured it wasn't a big deal since we'd just be picking up food. But the last few times we ordered takeout I didn't get the teriyaki sauce for my salmon, so I haven't been back in a while. read more

The first time I went with my granddaughter the service was slow and I finally received my dinner when she was finished with hers. The second time I tried this place I had called for reservations which I was told was fine, when we arrived we were told they were not suppose to take reservations and it would be about 5 min, well 45 min later we were still standing outside(with a baby) and there were empty tables both in side and out side, we had checked several times about the wait and were told just a couple more minutes. Good food, interesting menu, bad service, probably won't return. My friends and I, three of us all told, found the food prepared well, but the service was downright awful. The wait staff, when present, was forgetful, negligent and bordering on rude. Absolutely fantastic! Misoya Bistro easily puts the other sushi spots in the valley to shame. Fish was the freshest I've had in Jackson county, very nice people and the drinks were always overflowing. I suggest starting out with a rainbow roll to get the feel for the selection and follow your tongue after that. It was perfect and it's finally somewhere that's open late (Fridays and saturdays) My word of advice: don't hesitate, just go. This is place isn't going to be a secret for long. read more

I have been to Misoya several times and have always received poor service. Decided to go again the other night and had such a bad experience it will be my last time ever at this establishment. The food has always been good but it is not worth the aggravation of an inept wait staff. Rather than bore you with the details of the service I will tell you how my visit ended. As we were preparing to leave the owner came over and asked is everything OK? I replied "No" and she said "Ok, can I refill your water?" And when we declined she said "have a nice night" and walked away. Totally unaware of the problem, even when I attempted to discuss. Indifferent owner leads to an indifferent staff. Don't waste your time unless you like to support a business that does not care for customer service. read more

Came here before Swan Lake at the Criterion ... it was okay. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and the Harry Potter Roll and a dirty martini. Service was pretty good, unremarkable really but not bad. They were super packed and did manage to get things out quickly. The spicy tuna roll had a mayonnaise based sauce that I was not expecting and I am personally not a fan of so that through me off a bit. I felt like I couldn't really give a review of the freshness of the fish because the sauce was over powering. The Harry Potter roll was really good but I got it without the crab because I (thank goodness) remembered to double check if it was real or imitation as it just said crab on the menu. The waitress informed me ALL their rolls were made with imitation and it was $4 extra for real. Now for something like a cheap California roll I would expect that but this but this was $13 roll already so I just ordered it without any crab. It would be nice if they put this on the menu as I would have likely rethought my order a bit. I would have been super bummed if I hadn't asked because I really really dislike the fake crab. Ate here once before, had the jalapeno/cream cheese/tuna thing that was really good but one bite was randomly so hot I thought I might die. My friend and I really wanted bloody marys and were having a difficult time finding a place to eat and get one so we asked before we sat down and they said no problem but after we ordered they came out and said they couldn't make one. They had a full bar so I was surprised. Later the guy came out with two "bloody marys" and said the bartender worked something up.... pretty sure it was made with ketchup... not sure if we were being laughed at (lets see if they will drink these ketchup drinks) or they were really just trying to please. Any who, put enough vodka in it and anything is drinkable! I just had to keep telling myself it wasn't ketchup and in the moment (long story) the alcohol was the most import part. Reading the reviews suggests that all the positive comments are about sushi, while all the negative comments are about everything else. Unfortunately, since this restaurant presents itself as an Asian Fusion and not just a Sushi Bar, it earns only 2 stars, since there are only 2 positive things that I can say about it: + Green tea was good. + Bulgogi was average. The rest of our experience was very disappointing: - The service was terribly slow. It took the waitress 15 minutes to take our order (there were only 10 people in the restaurant). When she brought the sizzling bulgogi, the oil splattered not only all over the table (and into my tea), but also over me. No comment from her. - Edamame was over-salted. - Soft Tofu soup had no broth, only under-salted, over-peppered water. - Deep-fried tofu wasn't salted. Unsalted tofu, really? - Tempura was over-fried and too oily. Instead of the tentsuyu dipping sauce, it came with... *drumroll* teriyaki sauce. That was weird. Visited today. Only patrons in restaurant although 3 staff ate over the course of our meal). Fair sushi (what we went for, because Wasabe was closed today). Inconsistent sizes. One roll had slices that were the size of a hacky sack ball and one had slices that were the diameter of a tennis ball. Kinda hard to get in your mouth. Miso was watery/watered down, so it lacked much flavor. The staff were friendly and took good care of us, but also expected us to say how good it was, which it really wasn't. Prices were fine. Took a while to find this place, but it was worth it. Far better than EVERY SINGLE OTHER PLACE I have tried from Redding to Grants Pass. Originally form LA- where there is FANTASTIC sushi- I have been on a SUSHI QUEST trying out every place within a 2 hour drive from Yreka (the equivalent of the Sahara Desert when it comes to quality food). I'm not totally done yet, but this place tops the list so far. I had great service - plenty of water! LOL. Sushi came out spaced perfectly. The rolls were generously sized, well made and the fish very fresh. Had the Red Dragon,, TNT, Dragon rolls & CSRT. When they say spicy- they mean it. I love spicy, so this is a good thing! Didn't care for the CSRT - wouldn't order it again.The miso was spot on. Can't wait to go back & try some more. read more

My family brought me to this restaurant and they recommended the Japanese Steak with tempura. I assumed I would get a few tempura but they brought a pretty big bowl and they also gave a salad, Korean kimchi appetizer plate, a bowl of rice and a pretty large portion of Steak still sizzling with a teriyaki sauce. It was very good and well worth the money. My sister had a Harry Potter roll and she let me try her Harry Potter roll and it was really good as well. The waitresses were very friendly and great with the children in our party. I wish I was in town longer to try more items. read more

This sushi/teriyaki/Japanese restaurant just opened in Medford a few days ago. A couple of my friends and I decided to give it a try, and we're so glad we did! The decor is really nice. Asian, but contemporary. They have a pretty good selection of food. It seems like many of us have at least one friend who doesn't like Sushi, and for them, there are definitely some good choices (yakisoba, teriyaki, udon, etc.). The prices aren't bad. They're just about what you'd expect for a good sushi place. I ordered the Amber Roll (tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumber, crab meat topped with crunchy rice and spicy sauce) and the Salmon Roll. Both were awesome! The quality of fish is really good here. Also, a big plus -- they're open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays! A godsend in a place like Medford, where it seems no one is open past 9! Overall, a really great find! I can't wait to eat here again! Worst service I have ever received in my life. The only reason there is a star is because the food was decent. Also, they require I put a star to write this review. There was nobody seating guests. We were eventually handed menus and pointed to a table. After about 15 minutes, we got water. After another 20 minutes, they came and took our order. Food came in a good amount of time. We didn't get refills of water until our food was practically gone. We watched our waitress greet and refill other tables waters and completely ignore us as much as possible. Not once were we greeted until we were getting the bill and she thought a tip was coming. Little did she know, her tip was as nonexistent as her service. Once we ordered it took over an hour for them to bring us our food...people who came in 30 minutes after we did had their food before us..My date ordered wine and they brought her something different than what she ordered. I came here on a Monday night and wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but I just wasn't that impressed. I ordered miso soup and the Imperial Roll. They give you a bowl of edamame on the house, which is a nice touch. But the miso soup came out SUPER brown and grainy... definitely not a fan of that. Additionally, it took a REALLY long time for my sushi roll to come out, and it wasn't even that busy in the restaurant. The waitress excused the slow service because "sushi usually takes longer to prepare" than the other dishes, which is the same excuse she told the guests next to me. But really.... 25 minutes for one roll of sushi to come out? I was a little grumpy when my food came out! The Imperial Roll itself isn't bad at all. Beautiful presentation and it wasn't bad. Pretty standard sushi, I think. But the carrots inside made it seem like I was biting into fish bones, so I kept picking it out. I also don't think the sushi roll was worth $15.95!! Ouch. read more

Recently went back with a friend after I bragged about their food. We get their and the waitress is completely oblivious, she is not good at her job or customer service. She made feel incredibly uncomfortable from how awkward she was, basically she took our order, gave us our drinks and food, gave us a check and nothing in between. It was us and maybe 2 other couples in there and we got our food out at separate times, about 15 minute difference of waiting on my friends lunch to come out. Returned again Monday evening for dinner with friends. Our dishes were fantastic, I love the spicy ramen. But I ordered vegetarian tempura and there bits of shrimp stuck to the vegetables too. I will eat shrimp but it was the crunchy tail parts. Service was pretty good, forgot our drinks and chopsticks and water refills, but was very friendly and the food came out fast and hot. Let me start by saying that I've eaten here a number of times, and the food has never disappointed. However, tonight, what did disappoint was the customer service: we ordered our food - some tempura and a couple of rolls - and then asked to add another roll to our order. But because it was busy (and they seemed to be slightly understaffed), we were told it would be at least an hour and a half to get that roll (which was a spicy tuna roll - nothing fancy.) I understand to-go orders taking that long. But if you're a seated customer who simply wants to add something to their ticket, you should have some priority. Perhaps they should have made a last call for sushi!? And that brings up another issue: our server left us high and dry for quite a while. After the initial food delivery and check-in, we didn't hear from our server until we were finished with our original order, and snagged her to ask for the additional roll. Had she checked on us earlier, we might have been able to get that order in. The sad thing is, I do like their food. But the way we were dismissed left a very bad taste in my mouth. By the way, my partner manages a large number of hotel rooms in the area, and has decided that after a few bad service experiences, she will no longer be sending guests to this restaurant. read more

My wife and I have been going to Misoya for over 4 years now and I hate giving this place 3 stars. I feel compelled to because Misoya just isn't the same as it used to be. If you are new then this review won't matter as much, but give it a read anyway and I hope I can give you a view what you're going into. Three stars is the only middle ground I can give: try it if you want to, but if you've been here before its changes then I can't recommend it. First things first: consistency is key in restaurants. Even when changing chefs and staff, your restaurant lives and dies by its repeat service. Misoya has a new sushi chef and I appreciate that he wants to do things his way. But there are problems I have with what he has changed. Prices increase when the economy allows it. Misoya's price increases come with a catch. You're getting less than what you would have gotten a year ago. Much of what was lost is replaced with 'flair', which I find pointless. I realize some may not agree, but I feel it just bogs down the entire meal when there's inedible parts added in for presentation. The quality of the meals in taste has never gone down, which is good. Their fish is as fresh, clean, and flavorful as one can hope for in Southern Oregon. But I have difficulties accepting this new chef's take on Nigiri, or fish placed over rice. First off, the amount of fish is not 'more' as the waiter informed me. It is the same amount as what I got a little over a year ago. Second, the amount of rice couldn't even be seen under the fish. To say I could almost count the individual grains of rice is a bit of an understatement. Third, as far as I'm aware I couldn't see or taste any sort of wasabi under the fish. Nigiri is about the rice, the clean flavor of the fish, and the simplicity of what is sushi. While I certainly love a good, large slice of fish, if I wanted sashimi (just the fish) then I would have asked for sashimi. Telling me that I can have some extra rice on the side doesn't make up for the lack of rice served to me. On the plus side their miso soup and edamame have always been more flavorful than some competitor places. The variety of dishes and flavors they now serve is quite nice and they've even started serving ramen, though I have yet to try it (probably trying to compete with Tosu Medford). But I won't be recommending this spot as a sushi restaurant, not after the price increases (justifiable) and quantity decrease (unjustifiable), and it is with a heavy heart that I won't be returning to Misoya. read more

The food is phenominal. They are excellent not only at sushi preparation but at sushi etiquette, by preparing one plate at a time. This way , you don't have to wait for your entire order and can get started immeidately. The only problem with the restaurant is the loud music. I am not sure why they always have it on so loud and it's usually Korean rap. It certainly doesn't do well for a nice relaxing ambiance. This is the reason I took off a star. read more

Very good rolls (we ordered a variety of the standard sushis and sashimis) and a great price, just slooooow and not very attentive service. When they did come by though, they were very friendly. Rolls came out as they were prepared, but the miso didn't come until we reminded the waitress, and that was after the first round had already been cleared.
