Place is amazing..Our waitress was a doll..moved us to a different table to accommodate my aunt who walks with a cane even though it was jamming. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!! Table of four..From pumpkin pancakes with cinnamon whip cream, to Western Omelet, meat lovers omelet, to Irish eggs Benedict..with amazing corn beef hash was delicious. If I was ever in the mood for a big home made breakfast I would always go to the Miss Florence diner. If you are into old fashioned diners this place is pretty amazing! It was originally a boxcar but has more built onto it with cozy little red booths to sit in or their front counters are always great as well. The sign that greets you from the road is an old fashion neon retro sign that looks like it should be on a postcard (which I actually bought a postcard of this place because it's so awesome)! The waitresses are very friendly and make you feel very welcomed. I was always greeted with "hi hon, how are you." I highly recommend the breakfast, for me that was always the best. I have had their lunch sandwiches a couple times and they were OK. But the breakfast food is always excellent! read more

I had not, until last week, ever sat by myself at a diner counter. The prospect was daunting: Wouldn't I get bored? What if the other diners thought I was a friendless weirdo? Would they be mad if I tried to share their homefries? I was forced to face these demons when at 10am I left my hair appointment and realized I had an hour to kill before my friend met me in Northampton. The scene at Flo's is diner-typical; I encountered the usual assortment of townfolk you'd expect to find at a diner on a weekday: retirees (10am is, after all, prime time for a "late lunch") and mothers with small children. I cautiously made my way to the counter, expecting alarms to sound at any minute, alerting customers and staff alike to the "solo diner" in their midst. Alas, I was greeted not by sirens but by a sweet waitress, who told me my hair looked "perfect." Having left the salon convinced I looked like the cover of "Ramona Quimby, Age 8" (See Exhibit 1.) I appreciated that at the very least, the waitress had compassion enough to lie to me. The giant fountain Diet Coke she brought me a few minutes later soothed any remaining solo-dining anxieties I had. Because I was already in untrodden territory, when it came to the menu, I stuck with what I knew: veggie omelet, pumpernickel toast. And a side of homefries so that I wouldn't eat someone else's and be asked to leave. The food was solid diner fare, and I enjoyed it. I'm writing this as I am still drooling in my booth, and no: the lovely waitress is not pointing a gun at my head. Lovely nostalgic diner from 1941, the wonderful atmosphere is matched by great honest diner food. I had an excellent pastrami sandwich with nice (crisp!) onion rings. The coffee is also excellent, as is the French toast my wife had. we couldn't decide: is it time for breakfast or lunch? So we had both, and would come back to Miss Florence's in a heartbeat at any time of day. read more

Miss Flo's is my favorite diner! My girlfriend and I come here for brunch almost every weekend. Super cozy atmosphere decorated like an old fashioned diner and plays oldies from the 40s & 50s makes for a intimate and nostalgic dining experience. Gets pretty busy around noon on the weekends so if you can't snag a booth you can always sit at the counter. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Definitely try the mozzarella sticks, the marinara sauce is homemade and to die for!! Some of my other faves off the menu include the thanksgiving sandwich, cheeseburger with fried onions, and also the roast beef sandwich. My gf is a vegetarian so I've tried a few bites of her veggie burger and it was delicious! The onion rings are also worth ordering, you can get them as a side instead of fries. Miss Floe, I think I love you. Okay, maybe not, but you do have my attention. So this 4 star rating, is at the entry point of the 4 star. But, this was only the first time to go. Let us journey through this from the front door. It is an old converted passenger train car. It is great on the inside. Counter almost from end to end. The booths are comfy. They outside is very retro with lots of neon lights, you cant miss it. You are greeted when you come through the door. They are all very warm and welcoming. The place is very clean and, they accept credit cards. So the food: To start with, we ordered a corn muffin. It came sliced, grilled nicely and lots of butter on the side. They are made daily on site and were nice and sweet. Two thumbs up. Wife had a hamburger. As she puts it, it was not a frufru burger, but very good. She is kind of picky on the burgers, so if she says it was good, I will believe her. I have to after all because she would not let me have a bite to try for my self. I had a southern dixey thing. It is the corn muffin, sliced, grilled, two large sausage patties placed on top with white cream gravy, and I added the two eggs. So, you may be thinking, oh my god. If you are from the south, biscuits, sausage and gravy are a staple. So this was a great twist. It is creative and very tasty. Corn muffin and gravy made from scratch. You can not go wrong. So, flavor AND creativity, thumbs up, way up. Daughter had a hot dog and we also had a side of onion rings. They are made on site but they were cooked in a fryer that had been used for their fish / clam specials. So was not happy with that, but, they were still better than most I have tasted. Maybe if I had breakfast here I'd be impressed. As for lunch? I had a Reuben. It was OK. Not great. Not big. A little greasy/soggy. It could have used more cheese and 'kraut. It was served with a couple pickle chips and one lonely slice of banana - a sloppy mistake, I presume. French fries... standard fare. The GF's salt soup... I mean pea soup? Too salty to really judge. Cute interior. Great sign outside. Open 24 hours... If I were stuck, I'd try this place again, but in general I'll stick with the Route 9 Diner. Have I mentioned how much I love diners? The Miss Florence Diner is a cute little place that has been open since 1941. It's a bit of a tight fit when they get busy (you may find yourself waiting for a table at lunchtime), but the service is decent and the food is cheap! I've had a couple of chicken/turkey sandwiches here and they've been good. I love their fries, which are delightfully crispy and hot. I have yet to try the Diner for breakfast, but I've heard nothing but good things about their breakfast (which you can get all day). If I could give half stars, I'd make this a three-and-a-half star rating. What's holding it back from being four stars is that the last couple of times I went there were little things that could use fixing: the table-side jukeboxes were broken (jukeboxes are part of the charm of a diner), our order came out missing something, the bathroom was out of soap and the hand dryer didn't work, etc. But, for a greasy spoon, the Miss Florence Diner isn't bad and you can't beat the price. I'll still go back and try the breakfast options one of these days. :o) read more

Miss Flo's is one of my favorite places in MA, and I had spent many an evening there studying over a hot meal while attending UMass. The waitresses are very sweet and attentive, and their food is the typical classic not-so-healthy diner fare which I love. The only drawback is their hours; to me a diner should be 24hrs or close to it. I understand that Florence isn't the most lively town, but their hours state they are open until 8PM which isn't really accurate. They have been known to close early if no one is in the dining room (which was also confirmed by one of the waitresses), I tried to take my family one evening to find the doors locked at quarter to seven. Regardless the food and feel of the place keep me coming back, even now that I live in Eastern MA. read more

As several others have stated, this place is not only iconic, but was also once famous for having amazing food. Now, quite not. Nothing I've seen has been disgusting, but nothing has looked or tasted better than diner par either. Also, portions are small... and, at least the last time I was here, they weren't doing coffee, soup, salad and dessert combos to compensate. Too bad. If the food isn't going to be good, it should at least be bountiful. On another note, the decor is great and the diner car is well-preserved. Also, they do a lot of cooking. I am so sad to share my experience at the beloved Florence Diner. I LOVE diners but today's experience was absolutely horrible! I chose the banana bread French toast which was described as being served with sliced strawberries. When I got it, the banana bread was thinly sliced and covered in strawberry slop! The "sliced " strawberries were old, mushy and swimming is strawberry juice. There was so much juice that the banana bread was soggy like an old sponge! The visual presentation was unappetizing and the taste was not far behind! To make matters worse, the waitress never even came back to check on us, just slapped the bill on the table and left! When she came to clear the table , my plate was barely touched so she asked if I wanted to take the disgusting soggy French toast home. Naturally I did not and she didn't even care that the breakfast was unsatisfactory! Expensive ,very disappointing and poor customer service! Total let down!! read more

This place is nice. It has good food, and the best coleslaw I've ever had. Definitely recommend it, but it closes at 3:00pm.

Great bang for your buck. The waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. It is a fairly small diner, and if you go during certain times it is incredibly busy (so choose wisely!) and you may have to wait a bit for seating. If you go there, go for the breakfasts. My personal favorite is eggs benedict. Every diner I go to I try out their eggs benedict. Their eggs benedict far surpasses any other I have eaten. The yolk is still runny, the sauce is creamy (and they dont skimp on the hollandaise!), and the english muffin is toasted to perfection. Went to Miss Florence Diner for the second time on our recent trip to Amherst, Northampton, Hadley, Florence, etc., when we went our to visit UMass for my middle son. I took my kids there for breakfast last year, and they asked to go back. This time we had lunch - Monte cristo, cheeseburger, onion rings, etc. The food was so good! I looooove onion rings, and these were fantastic (the whole onion slice never slid out of the batter). Our waitress was very friendly, but the one we saw on the way in, not so much. I like the ambiance in this tiny boxcar-feeling diner; there just isn't a whole lot of room to get comfortable. If you go for breakfast order bacon, and try sitting at the counter for a homey feeling. read more

We tried to enjoy some brunch at Miss Florence's, but sadly, it didn't come to fruition. When we arrived there was a small line out the door with no clear directions about whether we put in our names, took our own seats, or were seated. We waded through the line only to be told to go back to the end of the line because "you just wait your turn" by a particularly haughty server. We became friendly with the party of four in front of us, and slowly some tables started to clear off. After about ten minutes of no one doing anything to clean the empty tables, we assumed we were supposed to just go sit down. We part ways with our new friends and take a seat. Ten more minutes goes by, no one comes to clean the table. Eventually the same waitress who was initially rude to us came to deliver food to the table behind us. My husband asked her politely if someone could clear the table and take our drink orders. She proceeded to blow us off, not stop walking, rolled her eyes as though we just tipped her a penny after a four course meal, and said, "Uhh you're gonna be waiting a little while" as she brushed passed us. What should have been a straightforward meal became an awkward and uncomfortable wait with ultimately no service. We walked out and we will not be back. The food looked good, and we only interacted with the one waitress--but it was enough to turn our stomachs. We went to Jakes in Northampton where we know we will be treated well (and will tip well in return) and enjoy a delicious meal. Won't make this mistake again. read more

My husband and I found our way into Florence by chance this past weekend. We initially were searching for a different restaurant in the vicinity which did not seem to exist anymore and happened upon this diner. The neon sign and warm glow from the windows drew us in. We are huge fans of diners and were extremely impressed with Miss Florence's. The tiled floors, the stools & booths, the WOOD, and a rotating dessert fridge! AND they have working jukeboxes at every table that have some oldies and some updated tracks. So nostalgic. We later found out that this old train car is a historic sight, it has been impeccably preserved. We both ordered pot roast dinner and I cannot rave enough about it. The meat was tender & juicy - no fork needed. The veggies were good but lacking a bit of flavor. Hubby thought his potatoes were bland, but it turned out that it was the gravy. The owner happened to be on staff that evening and checking on every table, discussing what they thought of the food, etc. So we brought up the gravy and she mentioned how the previous owner hoped that the coffee and gravy recipes would not be changed. I'm guessing some the regulars may have a bland pallet and loved it, but she & the kitchen staff agreed it needed some tweaking. I appreciated having this discussion because it shows how flexible and eager the new owners are to accommodate their patrons and making improvements. I wish them all the best. Miss Florence's is a hidden gem and the next time we found ourselves out this way we'll be sure to pop in again and hopefully try the brunch. On a side note: we overheard a table close to us talk about how delicious their burgers and meatloaf were. Come to find out they use grass fed beef but don't advertise it. We were in the area for a wedding and were up super early. My pregnant belly was VERY hungry. Miss Flo's did not disappoint. Super cute place, homey, towns of townies and regulars. Waitresses were the stereotypical diner type you would expect and added to the experience. Prices were awesome. My eggs, sausage, potatoes and english muffin were all prepared perfectly. Is there a way to give half a star, I just had a horrible brekfast at what used to be one of my favorite places to eat in florence. They have changed owners and now the food is sub par. I ordered the eggs Benedict with a side of home fries. The first thing is that they have changed the hollandaise sauce it used to be made from scratch and be better than other restaurants, now its not what it used to be. The eggs came overcooked and there were little chips of shell in the egg. The toast was over butterd and butterd on both sides. The presintation was bad as well. It looked as if they unwrapped the whole meal from a bag and cooked it in a microwave. I am very disappointed in this place now. For the meal i got i also was disappointed with the bill. The small 8oz OJ is now $3 a glass, i could see paying that if the oj was fresh squeezed. $5 for a side of over cooked bacon, I wish i could talk with the new owner and tell her or him that i can not recommend this restaurant to anyone anymore. Don't be fooled, this place isn't a find. It looks neat and has a heavy reputation, but the original owners sold Flo's and the new ones cut corners in a lot of places. The food is hit or miss. Be careful you don't catch the owner belching as you eat. read more

The best corned beef hash in New England!

We visited this diner on vacation to the area recently and loved it. The Miss Florence Diner is like walking into an America that doesnt exist anymore. All of the staff are friendly and make you feel almost like a regular. Food is very good. We had macaroni and cheese, hot pastromi, chicken pot pie, cole slaw and a roast beef with aus jus dipping sauce. All of the food was excellent even the cole slaw which had a nice taste and was not plain and boring as is so often the case. We recommend this place for superb genuine service, fantastic well prepared food at very affordable prices read more

Ahhh diners, one of my favorite things on Earth. Came here before a show at the adjoining rock club, and I'm really happy I did. The beer was cheap and cold, the burger was a classic diner burger, and the onion rings were incredible. Sorry Miss Florence - when I try out a diner for the first time I ask for my old stand-by Reuben and I have to admit that what I received was a poor and disappointing fat & connective-tissue riddled pile of sliced meat that I found difficult to chew.
