This is our first time here and I am really happy we decided to stop in. It is a very clean and inviting location and the waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. We started off with an order of the fried green tomatoes, to share. Who would have thunk it? The best fried green tomato we have ever had, would be in Baltimore, well it was. For our main dishes, my wife ordered the Cy Young omelette, with Applewood-Smoked Bacon, Spinach & White Cheddar, and I got the Eddie's two cage free eggs, with sausage and shredded potatoes and onion hash browns. Miss Shirley's is a Baltimore staple for breakfast and brunch. There is a very extensive menu of freshly prepared and delicious food, some with a more southern twist, like fried green tomatoes and barbecue. I've been several times on weekends, and the place is always hoppin', but even still you don't seem to wait long for a table. Efficient staff are knowledgeable about the menu and friendly to chat to. Disclaimer: I am only able to review vegan options due to my dietary restrictions. Meat and cheese products may be of a different quality than the vegan ones. With that being said, I was excited to go to Miss Shirley's as they had a dedicated vegan menu. I was particularly excited about the Griddle Cakes as I LOVE a good vegan griddle or pancake. That being said, the food was hit or miss. Hits: Chia Pudding and Virgin Mojito! The chia pudding was so delicious, refreshing and light that I literally could've bathed in it. It was sweet without being overly so and it hit all of the right notes on the palate. It was a beautiful experience! The Virgin Mojito was fruity and minty without tasting like diabetes in a glass. It was so refreshing and well done that I didn't mind the $10 price tag. I would actually pay that again gladly for that drink!! The Misses: the hash browns and the griddle cakes The Hash Browns were a miss because there was literally no seasoning in it. Once you put salt, pepper, Hot Sauce and Old Bay on them, they were good. But it was weird to have to doctor them that much. The biggest miss was the griddle cakes. While I know it's difficult to cook gluten free dishes that don't have the mouth feel of saw dust, these griddle cakes are very saw dusty. They were very weird on the palate as well. A solid breakfast/brunch spot. First time at this location yesterday. A decent size parking lot available at the back of the restaurant. Met up with some friends for brunch. Didn't have too long of a wait for us to be seated. I know when we think of brunch these days, we think bottomless mimosas. Well, this isn't that type of vibe. They do offer your basic mimosas and a few select cocktails. I got the apple cider mimosa. It was tasty but it's not strong to get you tipsy. For my meal, I had the savory chicken and waffles. The food was good, but the service was very disappointing. Our waitress was noticeably rude. When I asked for cream for my coffee, she rolled her eyes, and when she finally brought it, the creamer dispenser was dirty and appeared to have mold on it. We let her know, and she didn't seem to care -- she only asked if I wanted more creamer. My coffee was already cold, and when I requested a refill, she made me wait another five minutes before bringing it. Parking was a bit tight but there is a parking lot out back which helped. I truly enjoyed my food and the service. Myself and my partner arrived at 10am on a Sunday and there was no wait for a table. Shortly after being seated our waitress came to our table to take our order. The cran-apple cider mimosa was good. The shrimp and grits with fried green tomatoes along with the buffalo fried chicken mashed potatoes were scrumptious and filling. What put the service over the top for us was having not one but two managers/supervisors come to our table to check in with us. They are known for their ridiculous stuff French toast that is probably the size of 6 slices of normal bread. Pancakes with various fruit are always great. I almost always get some dish with grits as that is hard to find when you're not in the South. Deviled eggs are great. Coffee was refilled a couple times quickly. Service is stellar. So it starts like this: I'm reading the menu and I utter the lords name. The menu was inciting and inviting causing the wife and I with decisions. I chose the Chicken and Waffles and she chose the Breakfast Slammer Sandwich. The meals come and my wife takes mine as her sandwich well, looked like a sandwich. She's in heaven and I'm like, meeeh. The best part of my meal was the pancakes. The eggs looked like they were liquid eggs from the carton. They looked more orange than yellow to me and there was no seasoning added to the eggs at all. The chicken sausage was dried out. The pancakes were okay I've definitely had better. Unimpressed and I doubt I'll order again. read more

I visited another Miss Shirley's over 10 years ago and it wasn't all that it was made out to be. I had the "famous" monkey bread and my thoughts were less than stellar. Fast forward to this past Sunday when we went to this location and had brunch. We had no reservations, but the wait was no more than 15 minutes. The staff was very pleasant and our table and environment was clean. The waitress - Ashley was AMAZING!!!! So amazing that I had to call the manager and sing her praises. Come to find out, she had only worked for them for 1 WEEK! They must have great training there because the service was excellent. Ok, so I said all of that and didn't talk about the food yet. Ummmm let's just say that plates were clean. I had the chicken and waffles which offered a little sweet and a little savory, but done perfectly. We also ordered the devil eggs for appetizers and they were great. All parties were satisfied and I will definitely be back. read more

My husband and I visited Miss Shirley's Cafe during the week for brunch. This was my second visit to the restaurant and was equally as good as the first. I can see why this restaurant has these locations and is often talked about amongst the foodie community. This go 'round I tried the meal, I can't recall the name, with the fried chicken, grits and eggs. It was so tasty. The chicken was very crispy! The biscuit was fluffy and the grits were cooked perfectly. The fried green tomatoes are a must, I will order them every time I visited the restaurant!! The restaurant was packed and buzzing with families. The menu had some great options and we opted for the donuts and the shrimp and grits. Both were highly recommended by our waitress, Emily who was very kind and attentive. We loved our meals and will be back again to try a few other items we had our eye on such as the Chicken and Waffles. I appreciated how engaged the manager was, helping bring out and clear plates and check on tables. They do not take reservations but do send text message alerts when your tables are ready. Finally found a day to take my 3 kids to Ms. Shirley's in Roland Park. I knew it would be a hit based on the menu and I was not wrong. First, they give kids not only paper kids menus and crayons but also each gets their own etch a sketch! What a fun blast from the past for me, and a ton of fun for them. I had the chicken and waffles based on rave Yelp reviews, my oldest had the pulled pork Mac and cheese, and the two younger ones had the kids boxes, one with waffles and strawberries, the other with pancakes and chocolate chips. The boxes also come with scrambled eggs, fruit, and either vanilla yogurt or apple sauce. For $11 (an extra dollar for the strawberries or chocolate chips) it's quite a deal. And we all shared the monkey bread. The chicken and waffles was very good. I didn't think the honey mustard aioli paired all that well with the peppadew butter. Next time I'll get it with some honey on top. But still very good. The Mac and cheese was delicious. Very very rich so don't be fooled by the relatively normal portion size. It fills you up quickly! The cornbread on the bottom of the skillet really hit the spot. The little ones seemed to really like their boxes and the monkey bread was, of course, a real treat. At $18 it's a bit overpriced, and I think it would be better with caramelized bananas than just regular ones, but still very good. We had a wonderful morning at Miss Shirley's. The service was incredible, our server Hernan was timely, friendly, and answered all our questions about menu items. He was on top of our table's needs as well as others in the room. The food was delivered quickly and tasted phenomenal. I got the birthday cake pancakes which were sweet and delicious. My mom got the Coconut French Toast and was blown away by how filling and tasty it was. The presentation was also impressive. My dad is a big fan of collards and got those on the side with a traditional breakfast and said they were some of the best collards he'd had. I went recently and tried this amazing pumpkin stuffed French toast. Literally they served us a loaf of fluffy bread with a creamy pumpkin mixture in between two slices. It was HUGE. Absolutely delicious but very decadent. The unexpected hit though was the vegetable omelet. It was fluffy and the veggies inside were absolutely delicious. I was amazed at how this simple dish was just so good. I might need to order this every time I go!!! A tip about this location is that they have parking in the back of the restaurant. Met my dad here for breakfast today. It's street parking, luckily, I was able to park in front of the restaurant with no issues. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by a hostess and were seated. The service here was great. We had no issues with our order and our server was able to help my dad navigate the menu. The food came out at a decent time. I had the Get your grits on from the menu without the bacon. Essentially, it's shrimp and grits but I loved the presentation of this dish. I've never seen it made like this. On the bottom it had a fried green tomato, layered with grits then shrimp on top. It looks really good but I wasn't a big fan of it. It was good enough not to send back though but I would try something else the next time I visit. My dad had eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes and a biscuit. He enjoyed his meal. He ate all of it!! This is my second time visiting Miss Shirley's. Went here for afternoon brunch with a friend. At Saturday afternoon around 2pm the place had plenty of open tables and no waiting time. Service was attentive and friendly. One thing I do appreciate about the decor was the lighting; it was abundant enough but not to overwhelming. Ordered a C.Y.Young omelette (egg white, bacon, cheddar, and spinach). The seasoning was done well, I could still taste the flavor of egg white but it was not bland. I also loved the fact that the omelette was cheesy enough to be tender on the inside, and with each bite the egg white was literally melting in the mouth, but at the same time it was not so overly cheesy that the outside looked oily as if dripping with melted cheese, and the knife had trouble cutting through the omelette (as was usually the case in so many other brunch places). My only complaint was that the omelette was a bit watery, probably because either the spinach was put in too early, or too much spinach was used, and the water fromthe spinach soaked the omelette. Hash browns and coffee tasted standard. Also ordered a side dish of fried chicken. It came with three stripes of chicken tenders. Two pieces were seasoned well and fried nicely, one thicker piece was a bit dry and bland. Overall, 4-4.5 stars. read more

I've been reading about Miss Shirley's on Yelp for a bit now. This morning I finally got myself up for a breakfast date. There's metered parking up front. I didn't really have to worry about it much as it was early and not too crowded. It's about $0.50/hour. I was seated immediately by the host and soon after I began browsing the online menu, my waiter Brian came to take drink orders. Very attentive as well-mannered. I had a mimosa (why, of course). My meal included the house special, Get Your Grits On. Mimosa had just the right blend of OJ and champagne. I was sipping before my meal came and had to slow it down. My only wish is that the glass was bigger. The famous grits surprised me. I was expecting a bowl of grits with everything mixed in. But it came out as three little scoops. Presentation was great, don't get me wrong. The grits sat on the fried green tomatoes and the shrimp atop that. My initial thought was man this is tiny so I ordered a side of bacon. I tried the fried green tomato but ehhhh, not a fan. So I moved it aside and tackled the grits and shrimp. Super flavorful and to my surprise, also filling. I preferred a full booth and we were seated at a half booth facing the kitchen. I did not ask to move as we were simply hungry. Buffalo shrimp deviled eggs opened the meal no cornbread or biscuits. At $12 for four deviled eggs which are two eggs cut in half; pricey yet delicious. I had a hankering for deviled eggs and was not motivated to prepare. To decide on a three egg omlett or French toast? I went with French toast and a side of Applewood bacon, only three pieces. The meal and presentation were delicious. Believe every good thing that you've heard about Miss Shirley's. I can't speak for the other locations, but we went to the original in Roland Park and I was not disappointed at all. They excelled in EVERY area. The Food, Service, Vibe, all A+ The have a lot of odd pairings of food that just.... Work together, and as someone from the New Orleans area, this is something I am used to and appreciate a lot when I encounter it outside of NOLA. Excellent food, excellent quality. I could say more, but you literally cannot go wrong with anything on the menu and luckily my party was big enough for me to have a sample of almost everything they serve. My entree was the Cheddar Chicken and Waffles, and it did not disappoint at all. Our waiter was amazing and the staff is super welcoming. Management often comes by to ensure that customers are happy and this is a good thing. This place is a staple in the Baltimore Area, and rightfully so. 5 stars for me! i've been to miss shirley's a few times, and every time the staff is just extremely pleasant. the inside of the restaurant is very spacious, so although it's a popular place, i've gone both saturdays and sundays and have been seated immediately. they are well-staffed, so the service is always quick. i've had the pancakes with strawberries (not pictured), the maple bacon pancakes (october special), and the banana bread french toast. one thing i love about their pancake batter is that i can eat the entire stack of four and not feel like i'm being weighed down after. the raspberry plate glaze they give you with the pancakes is really good, and i appreciate the quality and volume of their maple syrup. as a native vermonter, that is something that is REALLY important to me and surprisingly hard to come by in maryland. i can drown my food in syrup and still have some left. the maple bacon pancakes were stuffed AND topped with bacon, so you had a bit in every bite. the banana bread french toast is really good, but not the best i've ever had. miss shirley's can be pricey depending on what you get, but i think it's worth it. i regularly walk 45 minutes to go here, and would highly recommend others check it out. read more

A short drive from Loyola, this restaurant provided a nice lunch, even in these pandemic times. Inside is bright and colorful, with booths and tables, all spaced on this day. We ordered 2 sandwiches, the Cuban Huevos sandwich and the Southern slammer! Both fantastic. The Cuban Huevos is a blend of Smokey pulled pork, creole mustard, sweet and sour pickles and eggs with cheese the blend is a fabulous mix of sweet, tangy on a ciabatta bun. The Southern Slammer has applewood bacon, mashed avocado and a fried egg, cheese, on pumpernickel. For sides we had a decadent grits, yes really, with mascarpone and cream. The hash browns look hand shredded, fried crispy with salt and pepper. We paid online from our phone. Pretty cool. read more
