The bagels are unbelievable. The vegan protein everything bagel is beyond anything I've ever tried. And they have non-dairy cream cheese!

I'd like to thank Gabe from Mission Bagel for the opportunity to give this another try. My second bagel was a better texture with a nice crust chew and soft interior. I prefer the scallion schmear to plain as the plain schmear was a bit tart. Although parking was still difficult (I saw some customers park at the church next door, which may not be allowed but is convenient), my experience was smooth. I wish a bagel and schmear was cheaper (it's $6.50 but you can add free toppings like capers and onions), but I understand that prices have risen since the days when I could get a $3 bagel. read more

Mission Bagel - Sesame bagel with plain cream cheese - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - San Diego, California

Mission Bagel has finally settled into a brick-and-mortar address in the heart of PB instead of occupying a street corner as a popup trailer. The space on Garnet Ave has seen multiple businesses (e.g. pizza shop, burger spot, etc) cycle through its premises. Diagonal parking spaces were available on that side of the street with parallel curbside spots on the opposite side. An outdoor front patio had some tables for seating. The inside was very spacious, almost too much for a bagel operation. A menu board was posted behind the service counter where the daily inventory was on display. Six kinds of bagels, four toppings, four schmears, and three salads made up the food offerings. Each bagel cost $3.50, however if you purchased half a dozen, the price was only $20. A schmear cost almost as much as a bagel at $3 which seemed pricey to me. Depending on the type, you could buy a half pint schmear between $7 and $9.50. The Everything bagel was still available during my visit. I bought one of those, asked for the item to be toasted, and then paired it with a scallion cream cheese schmear for $6.50. The dough had a nice chewiness while the exterior had plenty of poppy and sesame seeds sprinkled on it. The quality of the schmear was very good as the scallion flavor was strong. I do believe that Mission Bagel serves one of the better NY style bagels in town, therefore my rating was at 4.5 stars. read more

This little bagel trailer make some tasty bagels and offer some equally tasty schmears and toppings to go along with them. I had the sesame bagel toasted with a lox schmear and capers. The bagel with a schmear and added toppings, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, capers, and sprouts for $6.50, but mine cost $7.50 because the smear or cream cheese had smoked salmon mixed into the cream cheese. The bagel came nicely toasted with a generous amount of the aforementioned schmear. The smoked salmon in the cream cheese was very good, and they put a very good amount of it on the bagel. The bagel itself was very good, too. I loved that it had a good chew. The service was very friendly. They do not offer coffee here. For now, this little food trailer is churning out some tasty bagels. read more

The bagel scene in San Diego is popping right now, but I think the crown goes to Mission Bagel. In the last two weeks, I've tried bagels at Marigold, Desperado and Mission- what feel like the current holy trinity of NY style bagels in SD. The consistency of the Mission bagels feels like the perfect chew. For me, Marigold went heavy on the chewy end and Desperado went heavy on the soft end. Mission Bagel is right in the middle. Perfect amount of chew, but not so chewy that it requires work to get through. You can find these bagels in a small trailer in the parking lot connected to the PB Coffee Cycle. The menu is simple. A variety of plain, sweet and savory bagels along with different schmears or egg, tuna or white fish salad! All toppings (cucumber, tomato, onion, caper) are also included which makes it an extra special treat! I got an everything with lox schmear ($1 extra but worth it) with tomato and cucumber. IT WAS PERFECT. If you want something even more complex, you can get the lox bagel! They also sell bagels by the half dozen as well as tubs of schmear. I'll have to spring for that next time because I'm already sad my bagel is gone. A little grateful that this place is still new and the droves of people haven't shown up just yet. So good I kinda want to gatekeep this, but we gotta support local to keep these spots in business so I'll share. read more

No wait at 8:30 am on a Monday for pick-up order. I was excited to try these bagels given all the 5 star reviews. The chive cream cheese was excellent, smooth and bursting with chive flavor. What I'm most grateful about regarding the bagels themselves was officially learning that I prefer Montreal style bagels over NY style. Mission Bagels are large, perfect for topping with loads of ingredients but too thick and bready for my personal preference. After seeing how quickly they sell out, I placed an order to pick up. My bagel was ready when I walked up and I didn't have to wait at all. The poppyseed bagel had smaller poppyseeds than I typically see on bagels but I loved it. There was a nice crunch to the outside but a soft inside. I'm hoping to go back this week to stock up and try some more flavors. read more

FINALLY! Good bagels in San Diego! We visited this morning about 5 min after opening and there was already a pretty lengthy line. No worries- it's worth the wait. We ordered the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese (actually ordered three of these) cinnamon raisin with regular cream cheese and a plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese. I asked for one everything to be lightly toasted and one to be without cream cheese- instead I got 3 identical everything bagels except one with very light cream cheese, but that's LITERALLY my only gripe. They're still new so I think figuring these things out. If I could suggest labeling the bagels somehow so you don't have to open to determine whose is whose (nightmare if you can't wait to dive in to just one on the ride home). Regardless the ratio of schmear to bagel is on par with the east coast norm. There's a perfect outside crunch and inside softness that you don't get with the chains. Will absolutely be coming back- just wish I didn't have to drive into PB to do it! read more

Best bagels in Pacific Beach without a doubt. Just the right amount of cheweyness. Ngl, they could go a little heavier on the everything seasoning but the bagel is so good itself that I'll let it slide & not gonna knock a star off. Service is phenomenal, friendly staff who remember you if you come in often. Yes, they are closed on Saturdays.... I assume they're Jewish owned so that makes sense. Saturday is their day of rest. Authentic bagels & whatnot. I like that they don't have a HUGE selection of bagel flavors... they do the classics and they do them well. I'd rather a bagel shop only have a handful of classic flavors done right than 30 flavors of mediocre bagels. Only additional flavor I wish they had was a jalapeño cheddar but mostly because I think they'd do well offering that particular flavor in San Diego. Overall I would recommend. read more

Went for the first time today. We had toasted everything bagels with plain cream cheese and a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese. From the first bite you can tell these are different from mass produced bagels. They are well seasoned and the texture is more chewy while there is a crust on the outside. The owner, Gabe, took our order and was very friendly. He chatted about how we found him and made sure he spelled my name correctly. Mission Bagels is the real deal. The flavor and texture of their bagels are as close to New York as it gets--perfectly chewy with that signature crust. Their deli-style tuna salad, egg salad, and whitefish salad are always fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The lox shmear is a must-try--creamy, rich, and balanced just right. I love that you can add fresh sprouts for a little extra crunch and color. The staff is always warm and welcoming, which makes every visit even better.
