Mission BBQ, to me, is a streamlined version of classic American barbecue. Their menu is filled with classic barbecue items like brisket, pulled pork, turkey, ribs and sausage. Fixins include potato salad, baked beans with brisket, Mac and cheese, and green beans. Each table is adorned with a roll of paper towels, vinegar, and six varieties of barbecue sauce. We got the beef brisket (lean cut) along with potato salad and Mac and cheese. Brisket was cooked well- meat wasn't seasoned or smoked too much to let the sauces shine (our favorites were Tupelo Honey Heat and Smokey Mountain). The potato salad was deicious- the celery inside provided a nice crunch, and the sauce was slightly vinegary and mustardy. The Mac and cheese was pretty standard- sharp and gloppy with a very very light sprinkling of bread crumbs. The complimentary cornbread was nicely sweet and dense. Alongside the food, Mission BBQ is fantastic. Service was fast and efficient. Staff were friendly and attentive- while in line one waitstaff offered us guidance with the menu and the option of samples. This place has all the staples of an all American restaurant, from army and navy sports jerseys to their exit sign which reads 'Return with Honor'. This establishment may make a pit master angry due to the lack of smokiness or meat marinades, but this place delivers customizable and hearty portions of American barbecue essentials. This is where we take out of towners. It's always ready with a full busy crew. The food is instant, fries are great. We usually order the brisket and we like the honor given to first responders and military which is never over the top considering what these men and women do for us. I've been disappointed with our most recent experiences at this Mission BBQ location. We used to frequent the Perry Hall location often, but with our recent move, the Columbia location is much closer. On our two most recent visits to this location, they were out of baby back ribs. We prefer the moist brisket and baby back ribs because the meat is much more tender than the leaner cuts. We've found that even when ordering tender cuts, we are still being given leaner cuts. Mission BBQ is not particularly inexpensive and I know that they pride themselves on fantastic customer service, but we feel that the employees taking orders at the Columbia location have been a bit ambivalent and unable to answer questions about other cuts and amounts of meat, when we have had to change our order due to certain options being out of stock. I hate to leave a bad review because we love Mission BBQ but we really appreciate when our order reflects what we have actually chosen to order. We will probably visit the Glen Burnie location in the future. read more

There aren't any other places in the area that top Mission BBQ - especially not in their price range. Famous Dave's isn't even close to their level. Between several unique BBQ sauces, tons of menu selections, and a great variety of sugarcane sodas and beer, it's no problem finding something tasty to eat and something cold to wash it down with. I usually go with the pulled pork and it hasn't failed me yet. Mission also offers seasonal sides for those who enjoy a slightly rotating menu. Additionally, the food is fresh, hot, and I've never had a bad experience at this location. I'm personally not a huge fan of BBQ foods, but boy was this place good! Even me, someone who doesn't appreciate meat, know its value. If this place was open back then when I lived in the area, I probably would've been a BBQ fan! Now onto the food. It's a bit embarrassing to say, but, my favorite dish here was actually the mac n cheese. I don't know what they put in it, but it's straight up addicting. Easily the best mac and cheese I've ever had! I've tried their pulled pork, brisket, and baby back ribs (ribs and brisket were my favorite), and I loved them all - Even though I'm never going to be like, "OMG, I'm craving BBQ!", this is definitely going to be my first choice for BBQ. Walking in Mission BBQ you run into great pieces of Americana which pays tribute to not only the American culture but also the veterans who served. Resembling Chipotle, Mission BBQ serves their food a la carte style. Their servers were very pleasant and caring, even offering samples giving full platters of "freedom fires" to their customers. Like Chipotle their interior look is very industrial with metal sheet paneling and bench style tables for large parties. Not trying everything on the menu i can only speak about their brisket and pull pork. Both the brisket and the pull pork were delicious, tender and moist. What would be BBQ without the sauces, MIssion provides sauce styles from the major BBQ states. NC style being my favorite. Last week I had Mission barbecue for the first time. I had Salmon, Cheese potatoes and string beans for $14.87. It was worth every penny. Unbelievable! So I went back today unfortunately I didn't have the same experience. I tried the beef brisket and the same two sides. This time I had a small serving of brisket on a big roll. There was a lot of fat on the brisket. The string beans and potatoes were also small servings for almost $14. I like to see consistency when I go to restaurants. This is my last visit to Mission BBQ. Pretty much everything here is consistently good. From the entrees to the sides and desserts. My favs are the pork and chicken pulled bbq and turkey. If I were a big red meat eater, the brisket would be at the top of that list. Their roasted chicken is the only thing that I've ever been dissapointed with. I'm not big on BBQ so it takes a lot to impress me. I find Mission BBQ to be absurdly dissatisfying for how expensive they are. They slap an American flag up and talk about supporting local police and firefighters and all of a sudden, they get a big business. It was super tasty and tender and we got to try it with all 6 of their bbq sauces: each sooo good it would be too hard to choose a favorite The bbq beans had a very robust, smoky flavor, enhanced by sizable chunks of meat! The macaroni and cheese was amazing and obviously made with real, quality cheese! She responded back quickly letting me know that they could accommodate and was absolutely possible. I went in for pickup, they were ready for me and helped me load my car. I don't give out 5 stars very often. This place is just so good. I think its the best brisket I've ever had and its generous portion ensure I'll have leftovers. Even though its walk up and you pretty much serve yourself drinks, sauces and utensils: there are always one of two staff members walking around and helping make sure to give a cheerful hello and help with incidentals. Green beans top notch, corn bread checks out, but the meat is the star of the meal. I like the 6 pack of sauces, Memphis Bell is my favorite. I'm a fan of Mission BBQ as a whole. But I've had repeated issues at this particular location with one specific item: Fries. I nearly always have to ask for fresh fries... They always announce "fry down!" when you order, and that is supposed to be a signal to the kitchen staff to drop a fresh batch for your order. That's been the way it's worked at the other locations I've frequented (see my 5-star review for the Laurel location). However, at this location, more often than not they just give you whatever is in the hopper. I've even seen the guy drop fries from there back into the oil to re-heat them, and once he did so because someone requested no salt! It always seems to be the same guy on the fry station that does this, and I've had conversations with at least 2 different managers about it, but it has yet to change, so I'm deducting 2 stars. read more

I got the pulled pork sandwich, NC style, which just means it has coleslaw on it. I highly recommend the mac-n-cheese, it's amazing! Today a friend came to visit and I suggested Mission BBQ for lunch. I got the pulled pork sandwich combo with two sides, fries and baked beans. I enjoyed everything but would prefer bbq that is marinated and slathered in sauce while the food is prepared but they probably don't do that so that patrons can choose their own sauce. They have six different types of sauce to choose from. The Memphis Belle was suggested by Mame, one of the employees, to us and I liked the flavor. Mame by the way was exceptional. Not only was she welcoming, but she made the suggestion, offered us a brownie sample, and took away our trash for us. My husband asked for a sausage sample and she went out of her way to get it for him. If only all establishments had this type of customer service. My friend really enjoyed the food and if it was in her area she would be a regular customer. This is one of my husband's favorite dining spots. Hats off to Mission. read more

I was excited to try this place out as I am a big bbq fan and have had mission bbq at different locations. HOWEVER this was the worst meat I have ever had. I ordered the sampler with ribs and the brisket; in order to eat it though I had to drain it in bbq sauce. I'm not exaggerating when I say that. To drink I had a sweet tea which was actually pretty good. Another little tidbit that I find interesting is that this place loves the military and law enforcement has it all over the business but they don't even offer a military discount...shame will not being going ever again read more
