First try for Mission and my wife and I were satisfied with the experience. The pork sandwich was served with an abundance of meat and side of cole slaw was good. The table had a variety of 6 barbecue sauces to choose from and clear warnings about any fire a particular sauce had. Testing each sauce on the meat gave a wide variety to the taste and the serving was filling for lunch. Service was very good and the staff made sure we were satisfied. read more

After my fourth time trying mission BBQ at this location, I've finally decided I could come to a conclusion on a review. I can only attest to the ribs and sides because it's the only things I've had here. I try not to be bias because of my love for ribs and from being from the south however, these ribs are just "ok". They are rather inconsistent. The four times I've been here were either for lunch, mid-afternoon, or dinner and the ribs vary exponentially. The best being lunch, the worst dinner. The ribs are very dry and over cooked with the later day ribs being the most dry and over cooked. Dry as in, your teeth stick together when chewing them and absorb all moister in your mouth. I know ribs can be subjective but these are just too dry. The fries were rather soggy and the taste of oil is very prominent. The cornbread is baffling. Not in a good way. I can't seem to pinpoint the taste but it's like no other corn bread I've ever had and want to have again. On a good note, the macaroni and cheese was great as was the sweet tea. The service was perfect each time. Very friendly and sincere. The environment is very clean and inviting. I really really want this place to find a consistency in the preparation of the ribs. I feel mission bbq can be so much better. read more

Went here hoping for the best. Food was mediocre at best, however the Mac and cheese...EXCELLENT. For the pricing, I was not too impressed. Meats were very dry and coleslaw was horrible. I realize it's a take out BBQ place but with that said, we spent about $30 and it was just okay. Decor was great, as was the location but we more than likely won't be back. For the same price Dickey's across the street offers more of what we are looking for. read more

I decided to try Mission as it is new and I'm always on the hunt for good BBQ. The meat and portions are good. Meat is very moist (chicken and pulled pork). I like the fresh lemonades and sweet and unsweetened tea section. Mac n cheese was good and I thought baked beans were ok. I like they have 6 sauces from various places but I unfortunately did not find 1 sauce that I enjoyed. Lastly, I like the theme of the restaurant because it supports military, law enforcement, fire etc. but what I did not enjoy so much was the political type advertisement on the table with the sauces. I noticed it towards the end of my meal and it just left me with a negative feeling of the place. It was good that I didn't enjoy the food more as I would have needed to make a call on whether to go back again. But the combination of all, let's me know I can pass going forward. read more

This is the best BBQ in a very long time! The meat is flavored so perfectly don't need sauce. The side dishes taste homemade, Coleslaw is seasoned perfectly and has a wonderful fresh taste, A perfect partner to the pulled-pork. The servers are friendly and upbeat, and atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. The cherry on top for this restaurant, is its support of veterans and first responders, which really takes this restaurant over the top!. read more

Ok it's quite a guy place but my wife the police mom fell in love. Service was above excellent and the food was ready quick. A couple minor negatives. The meat on the sampler was dry. Sauces made up for it somewhat but then again everything I had was dry (mac-n-cheese and corn bread). Straws were hard to find. Once you get the system it's obvious where to look but for newbies we had to hunt. Once I start nit picking it's hard to stop! Tad bit pricey but would have ok had the food been better. I like how the place builds in support for local law enforcement and firefighters to its pricing. I'll eat and pay for dry meat to support those guys. read more

The menu was kinda confusing. I didn't know which things came with cornbread. They didn't have a lof of vegetable options. But their ribs were alright. I've had better. Also the fries tasted a little burned. The mac n cheese was good!! read more

Was really hoping this would be a good BBQ option in the area but unfortunately it disappointed our family. Food was average and actually somewhat dry. Prices are high for what you get. Not happy with the cashier who automatically added the 'combo' sides/drink to each order without asking. Felt like the place just wanted to make extra money in an unprofessional way. We're not fans of Dickey's and unfortunately this place is really comparable. read more

Meh BBQ. Definitely better options out there. Go to Vernon hills for city barbecue or urban bbq. Both are a lot better.

This is the third Mission location I have been to and by far the worst. I had the meat market 3 meat XL meal. The brisket was flavorful but had equal parts meat to fat ratio and was a small serving minus the fat maybe 2 ounces of meat. The pulled pork lacked any smoke flavor and again a small serving and overly seasoned with powdered rub. The "spare ribs" were virtually not edible. Again small portion - three small bones from the thin end of the slab. The meat was like leather and chewy. The rub was so heavy all I tasted was salt and rub spices. I usually start with the brisket then ribs but the rbs were so bad I wound up tossing them in the trash. The cornbread tasted funky almost bitter and sweet - also was tossed in the trash. The fries were good crispy and seasoned well. All in all a bad meal. I'll go to Mission again but not this location. That's a good chunk of $ in the trash 2 stars for the fries and minuscule portion of edible brisket read more

If I had walked into Mission BBQ blindfolded and simply sampled the BBQ, I would have been thoroughly satisfied, but after sitting down and taking in the pro-military, pro-first responder memorabilia lining the walls, I must say the food tasted EVEN BETTER!! Finally, a business that gets it!! Every day at noon, the Star Spangled Banner is played, and imagine this, EVERYONE STANDS FOR THE ANTHEM!!! Aside from the great atmosphere, the food was outstanding. Ribs were fall-off-the-bone. Brisket was perfectly moist and the pulled pork was delicious. They also feature several different regional BBQ sauces to suit anyone's palate. Do yourself a favor. Head to Mission BBQ! Support a business that isn't afraid to support our troops!! I just wanted to say how very thankful I am for the team at Mission BBQ Gurnee, IL! I had a wedding at Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake, IL on 5/17/19 and we had Mission BBQ catered. I can honestly say that was our best decision for the entire wedding. We met with Alba on a few occasions for a tasting and to finalize details and she was beyond courteous and professional. At our tasting the food just kept getting better and better and it was very hard to decide what we would serve. Our original plan was to meet with MIssion BBQ and also two other caterers to decide who we wanted for our big day, but after our tasting here we did not even bother to go anywhere else. We knew what you had to offer here was better than anywhere else. Fast forward to the day of the wedding and all five of the staff members present were so helpful and kind. They even brought their own decorations and the setup was beautiful, better than I had imagined. Every staff member kept coming up to us and asking how they could help us. Our guests were raving about the food and people even went up for second and third helpings. The food was hands down the most talked about topic with our guests. We had very few leftovers but what we did have we chose which items we wanted to take home and the rest was offered to our guests to take home which was very special to me because we had many people come in from out of state and staying at the hotel. The icing on the cake is that food this delicious is so reasonably priced!! read more
