I went to the NEW MISSION BBQ today to get lunch and it turned into a total experience ! I usually wear my Vietnam Vets baseball cap and when I was walking up to order one of the employees took my hand and took me to a side register and said YOU don't need to wait in line. It was about 5 minutes before noon... I walk over to a table to wait for my to go order and just before I sat down the loud speaker came on and the voice said; "WILL EVERYONE PLEASE STAND FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM". At that point the anthem started and almost immediately everyone joined in singing. Right after it ended, my name got called out for my order and before I could even get to the door to leave SEVERAL people came up to me saying thank you for your service ! By the way... Surprise AZ location. Had hand-rubbed steak. Worst ever!! Fatty, very chewy, had to throw most away. The corn bread was dry and cold, asked for butter it was cold and wouldn't melt on cornbread. Fries came lukewarm warm, only so-so. S/O had brisket, it was cold, dry and not much taste so use plenty of bbq sauce. The only good were the bbq beans. Not sure we'll ever go back! read more

The first time i ordered the pulled pork when they first opened, it was ok. Today, i feel like i was given left overs from 3 days ago. The meat was so dry and must've reheated over and over, i had to keep drinking water after chewing it. I didn't have time to go back and exchange it so i just tossed it out. The cornbread and mac and cheese were tasty though. Will i go back for the pricey/dry meat? No. I'll keep ordering the sides and get my meat somewhere else read more

I'm so excited we have this excellent bbq joint in Surprise! The place was pretty crowded when we got there but the line moved quickly. We had an amazing girl, Saleen, at the register that helped with questions and she was so friendly! Seeing that it was our first time, we wanted to try a little bit of everything. I ordered the brisket, you get an option of "lean" or "juicy".....of course I went juicy...give me that fat and flavor! The brisket was amazing - and VERY juicy. Hubby had the baby back ribs, which he enjoyed. But the star was definitely the grilled shrimp. Shrimp were huge, cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing! The only part we didn't care for was the sauce....we are not huge fans of the Carolina vinegar sauce. Food came out quickly, hot and delicious! We will definitely be back. Saleen also came around and asked how everything was and if we needed anything else - so nice! She was definitely a highlight as well! read more

Upon entering, was disappointed to learn there wasn't a military discounted offered. However, Dakota--the manager--provided us a free dessert and most importantly, sat down with us to explain the Veteran's VIP program. This program is like a veteran discount on steroids. Mission BBQ is incredibly fortunate to have such a committed and competent manager in Dakota. She represents everything an organization desires in its workforce. Whatever you're paying her, double it! She truly deserves it. She turned a disappointment into an excitement. Oh, by the way, the food and service were fantastic. This was my first visit and this was a good experience. The BBQ WAS GREAT, I had a brisket sandwich and sweet potato fries. The sauce was good without overly spicy. The place was very well organized, very clean and staffed with attendants were great. A very interesting event at noon when all activities ceased and all staff and customers stood for the US anthem. Wow, yet another expensive restaurant in the Surprise area that misses the mark. $45. For two people to have a mediocre lunch is just a bridge too far. A brisket that was supposed to be their moist version, was as dry as an overcooked cheap roast. Part of the problem could have been it wasn't carved properly and served in stringy pieces. Baked beans that tasted like a can of Bushes with a couple of leftover chunks of dry brisket thrown in. The hamburger appeared undercooked but was actually dry and tasted like sawdust. I would have given this overpriced dive one star but I liked the French fries and lemonade. read more

Overall, the food was great. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly too! They had an abundance of BBQ sauces to choose from. Most were fantastic. The sides were all delicious and I recommend the Mac and cheese to anyone. Only four stars because the pork was a little too salty for my liking. But overall I was impressed! Let's talk about how good it smells in there. Smoked meat and it makes your stomach grumble. The cornbread is to die for. Mac and cheese is amazing. The green beans taste like a holiday you never want to forget. Six sauces to choose from to add to the already great meat. Oh and the fries. You gotta get them. read more

I've been there 4 times since in 2 months since it has opened in Surprise. It was great the first couple of times but things never seem to stay the same after they open. I always get the moist brisket which has been fabulous until tonight. It was so dry that I could bearly swallow it and it was tough. I was so disappointed. I should have taken it back and showed them because there was no way it was the moist one which you have to pay extra for. Some of the pieces were huge and seemed to be burn ends. My bun even seemed a little hard. I had to get a knife to slice the huge chunk to put on my sandwich . This is where I say things always change. It was after a holiday so maybe they were trying to get rid of what they had left over, idk. I felt like they thought I wouldn't know or the person who made my sandwich didn't know the difference between moist and regular. It was really awful compared to how good they used to be and what I had there several times before. So very disappointing and for that reason I won't be going back for a very long time. Really wanted to like this place. Not many options for BBQ on the west side. But this was not it. Staff was super friendly, inviting, and I got my food rather quickly. Burger was good. No complaints there. (Which is the only reason I didn't rate even lower!) Also ordered brisket, chicken, and pork. All were super dry and tasted like it was cooked in an oven, and maybe sat in smoke after it was pulled. Had a Smokey flavor.... But was not what you expect when you want real BBQ. Thought the Brisket and Smoked Turkey had great flavor but unfortunately when you order takeout, the portions seemed to be small and not worth the price of the 3 meat platter. We were excited to see a BBQ place near us. My husband and I both enjoy great BBQ, we looked up the reviews and they were pretty good. The atmosphere is relaxing and there is ample seating. You need to walk up to the counter and place your order like any fast food restaurant. We were each given a cup to self-serve the drink of our choice. Straws and sweeteners are hidden in drawers, we had to ask for them. There are no servers, when your name is called you walk up to the counter and pick up your order. My husband had a turkey sandwich with beans and string beans sides. I had pulled pork (which I love) and a side of beans. Both of us had iced tea. $32. We didn't mind the cost, when the food and service are good, we're happy to pay the price. So, the pulled pork is plenty stacked but was cold and dry. The roll was so stale it literally fell apart, after the first bite. It was so dry. My husband's turkey sandwich was dry. He never complains about food, to him just about everything is tasty. There are condiments on the table but no real BBQ sauce. A roll of brown rough paper towels was on the table. What the? No class. I lived in TX for many years and know what great BBQ is. No comparison. He was not a happy camper. He looked at me and said "Do you think you want to come back here"? I said "No" He was relieved at my response. When we left, we both said that we wished we had a better experience because we wanted to have another good place to eat around here, (Surprise). I do want to add, just before we left the restaurant, eight people walked in together. After they gave their order, they complained that they didn't expect such a high "price" and no table service. They had to put tables and chairs together so that they could all sit at the same table and complained that they had to get their own orders. I'm not sure they will be returning, either. Really nice to have a good bbq restaurant in surprise again. The Mac and cheese, pulled pork, chicken, and turkey are excellent. Very good potato salad, burgers, and fries as well. Good service the two times I've been there. Only issue is it could use a slight bit more seating inside, but that seems to be a common issue with the newer restaurants opening up in Surprise. read more

Great food. Outstanding Customer Service. I was celebrating my B-Day at the Surprise AZ location with family members. Aside from the food being very, very good, we had the extreme pleasure of being helped by a young lady at the counter by the name of Deba. She was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, had a great smile, and had an overall wonderful demeanor about herself. My son, after seeing the materials at the counter relating to D-Bay Club and your support of Military/Law Enforcement/First Responders happened to mention to her that not only were we celebrating my B-Day but also explained that I was ex Law Enforcement. Deba immediately congratulated me on my B-Day as well as thanking me for the LE service. She then provided me with info on how to sign up for a M-BBQ account as well as providing me with her opinion ( I asked her ) on the different sides you serve. With all the stresses and chaos that many folks are dealing with these days, it sure was extremely nice to be assisted by a person with a fantastic outlook on life in general. Shaking my head as I write this. Not sure how this place has 4 stars. So, let's begin with this debacle. Ordered online, wife arrived just 2 mins after the time stated "ready for pickup". Spent 18 mins talking to several employees, 1 young lady, was absolutely clueless, as too where pick up orders are kept??? Really? Sent my wife the order receipt, finally found it. Arrived home, gosh they forgot to give us a pulled pork sandwich. Called store talked with Mgr who said he needed to talk with GM and would personally call me back( wanna guess if he did?) Now onto the food.LOL..Let's start there -LOL. 2 Meats, are 4 slices of thin meat, not big slices mind you, thin and small. I've been waiting to try this place for a while, mainly so they could iron out WRINKLES restaurants tend to have. Well, a LOT OF WRINKLES. So, if you want over priced, dry small portion, POOR to non existent service and same for MGMT, then you'll love my review. Pretty sad this place supports FIRST RESPONDERS. I'll make sure to donate the funds i would have spent at this AWFUL place. **Update, we did get a refund. I wasn't asking for one nor was expecting since I believed the manager forgot, like my order.
