Immediately responded at the counter. Asked for the first time ever how fatty I wanted it and knew I was in the right place. Living dangerous, I wanted taste and went fat. Melted in my mouth...and it was saucy, too! Came with -6- sauces. Loved the spicy one, but once you remove one lid...they all tasted excellent. We went on a Friday night and there were quite a few people in line and in the dining area but things moved fast and we had no problem getting a clean table. My friend and I ordered the exact same thing: brisket (moist). Hers was sliced nicely with very little fat. Mine was a slop of fatty mush. That said, the pieces I was able to eat were good and it is fun to try the different sauces. The sides we had were cheesy baked potato, Mac and cheese and baked beans which we all thought were just ok. One person had the green beans which he said were really good. My husband had ribs. They were heavily seasoned. So heavily seasoned that he had trouble enjoying the flavor of the ribs. And putting bbq sauce on top of the seasoning was not his cup of tea. Stopped into Mission BBQ in Surprise and was seriously impressed. The brisket was lean, moist, and honestly some of the best I've had in a long time. The turkey was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor without drying out. The sauces really stood out too, especially the Tupelo sauce which had the perfect balance of sweet and heat. What made the visit even better was the service. The team was friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. You can tell they care about the experience as much as the food. Just beat the lunch crowd today, arriving at 11:20 am for an early lunch. This is our second time in and everything even better than last time. Customer service here is always top notch. A hostess walked by our booth today and saw Hub's Jalapeño Sausage. She recommended a mustard that goes really well with it, Georgiaah Mustard, then brought it over. Hubs agreed it was very good! Like a honey mustard. I ordered the moist brisket and smothered it in NC Vinegar Sauce that sits in a glass bottle on every table and it was delicious! A roll of paper towels and a six-pack of bbq sauces from different regions is on every table too. We ordered: - Bottle of Cheerwine - Fountain Drink - Brisket, Moist with Corn Bread, sides of Granny's Sweet Potato Mash, Kickin' Collard Greens. My large pile of sliced fresh and hot moist brisket really hit the spot today. These Collard Greens are THE BEST. You must try them. The whipped airy and creamy Sweet Potato mash with browned breadcrumbs on top was very good as well. - 3 Meat Sampler (Pulled Pork, Brisket, Jalapeño Sausage) with Corn Bread, Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese, Kickin' Collard Greens. Came for lunch and unbeknownst to us, got there right when they opened. The line was immediately to the door and rightfully so. Best BBQ in town. We shared the two meat tray with brisket and pulled pork. The meat was so tender and I loved trying all the BBQ sauces. We got fries and mac and cheese for sides. I'm usually not impressed with mac and cheese at restaurants but this one was so good! Super cheesy! And the hand cut fries, fav. The free cornbread was a nice touch but it was a little dry. I love the hero cup program that they do and it's nice you can pick $1 off a combo or a 99 cent refill if you bring the cup back in. Customer service was great. We found our way over to the newly open Mission BBQ restaurant last month and we've been back several times since. Their new location in Surprise, AZ is welcoming, the food and service are top notch!! We had the pulled pork & brisket and went back to try their burgers & fries-yum, and recently tried the shrimp special. There's plenty of parking and as of 8/2025 there is some construction going on so be cautious of changing traffic signs. As you enter through the main doors, there is a space dedicated to the memory of the events of 9/11/2001. This heartfelt space is a special, and thoughtful remembrance specially since we are a 9/11 Family living in AZ. During the usual lunch & dinner times expect this place to be hoping and extremely busy. The BBQ meat here is good, but not great. You stand in line and place your order at one of the available registers at the counter, like you would at Rudy's, and then find your seat and listen for your name. The smell inside is fantastic with all of their smoked air. The tables have brown paper towels on a holder, and a small box holding 6 different sauces. There's even some vinegar to put some sour on your puss. The verdict on the food, which will be compared to Naked Q at Westgate, as they have the best meat on this side of the valley, is as follows: - Baby Back Ribs: Too salty and overcooked. I appreciate fall off the bone meat, but there's a point of no return with ribs. - Brisket Burnt Ends: The flavor and the texture are not there, which is weird, as they seemed more meaty than Naked Q, but having less fat means less flavor. - Pulled Pork: Just as good as Naked Q. - Mac-n-Cheese: Very creamy with a sharp tang and breadcrumb top. Better than Naked Q. - Baked Beans: Disappointing, as they seemed like a sweet, canned, product, like Bush's. They did have some meat, and are better than Naked Q. Hubby and I went in to eat since we did take out the first time. I love the happy faces and great service, definitely starts the experience right when you open the door! I got the lean brisket which truly was lean and so flavorful. It also had a nice smoke ring too! He got the smoked burger and enjoyed it. I got the 3 meat sampler with brisket (I asked for lean), pulled pork, and turkey. The plate comes with a piece if cornbread, and I upgraded it to a combo and added Mac n cheese & green beans. The full combo & the drink came out to around $32. The proteins: 5/5 - all had great flavor and nothing was too dry. Mac & cheese: 5/5 - rich cheese, overall great side Green beans: 3/5 - meh, just average tasting Cornbread: 3.5/5 - again, kind of average, a bit dry - but good. BBQ Sauces - an actual wide range of different sauces and flavor profiles. My favorites were the Baja and Tupelo. Brownie - maybe the best restaurant brownie I've ever had. Rich but not. Chewy but a little bit of crunch on the edge. 4 Stars Jalapeño & Cheese Sausage - nice balance of heat and sweet. Not too spicy at all. Really nice overall flavor. Classic Sausage - A quality, well prepared, simple piece of sausage. Baby Back Ribs (not pictured) - in the middle of fall off the bone and doesn't fall off the bone. I enjoyed the texture difference. Nice subtle flavors. Fries - lightly salted, crispy and had unique flavor and texture. Pulled Pork - nice smoke flavor with little parts charred providing texture and more flavor. 3 Stars Brisket - On two separate days, the brisket here was just okay. Okay flavor. The moist cuts and lean cuts were dry and lacked a good bark (for my liking), and not much of a smoke ring. CornBread - this is hit or miss. Day one is was dry, day two it was softer. Both days it was just cornbread, nothing special. Strawberry Shortcake - the strawberries were sliced to a perfect size. The cake was not dry. It was good, but like the cornbread, it was simply okay. Overall, the prices are more than reasonable compared to other BBQ restaurants. Their sides and brownies are absolutely delicious. I hope the Brisket gets better. Open for 2 days now! My sister picked up lunch for me so I wasn't able to go to the restaurant, but she had nothing but reviews about the staff, the inside, and the overall vibe. She got me a two meat combo, and I got turkey and the cheddar jalapeño sausage, and also tried the green beans and the baked potato casserole. It's nice to see a large chain restaurant put good food, service, country and Veterans as their priorities. I usually eat my BBQ at Rudy's in Goodyear but a friend told me to try Mission BBQ which is closer to both of us. Mission BBQ delivered big time. The ordering is easy, the staff is very helpful and the restaurant is clean. The prices are fair, not excessive/not cheap, but very fair for delicious bbq'd meats. The portions in my view are large enough to satisfy. The thing that keeps you coming back are the amazing flavors. The moist brisket, pulled pork, sausage and turkey are all moist and delicious. You want to keep eating it to be blunt! The sides are ok, the cornbread was surprisingly moist and the staff comes around to check on you while eating. The place was incredibly busy, which is good for them, however it does dampen the experience as you don't have a place to sit and have to take your food to go. So you don't really get the fresh, hot. Food experience. We got a mix of meats and fries. By the time we got home the meat was kind of dry and the fries soggy and lukewarm. The brisket still had great flavor, as did the turkey. The pork was very dry. We tried each of their sauces and found the store bought bbq sauce was better, but to each their own. I'd like the official score to be 3.5/5, but yelp won't allow it. I tried this place for the first time Today for lunch. 1pm on a Friday. I ordered online, it was ready when I got there and the service was fast, friendly, and all around good. I ordered: 3 meat sampler, turkey, lean brisket, pulled pork, side of Mac and cheese, side of fries, and a Jalapeño cheddar sausage. When I picked up they asked what type of sauce I'd like, I said all, and they provided! That was great, I got 6 different sauces. The Great: The value, $42 for my order was a steal IMO, my favorite BBQ spot in the valley this would have been $100, so definitely a great value. Jalapeño cheddar sausage, the star of the meat show, smoky, flavorful, cheesy, good texture and snap. Mac and Cheese, usually I'm incredibly underwhelmed by bbq restaurants Mac and cheese, I also typically hate a bread crumb topping. This was a 10/10, after my first bite I actually thought "wow that's the best restaurant Mac and cheese I've ever had" All 6 sauces were surprisingly unique and delicious. Great sweet, smoky, spicy. Honestly super impressed they could have 6 different sauces that are this good. Good: The pulled pork was good, definitely not great though. It was moist, tender, and had some flavor. But lacked any real flavor other than "smoky meat", not the worst, not the best, but a solid choice I'd try again. French fries, fries to-go are never great, but these were seasoned well and were made from real potato with the skin. Very good. Not so good: I understand that I had the choice of moist or lean brisket. I may have chosen wrong, but even though I didn't choose moist I don't think that any BBQ restaurant should be serving brisket this dry. I took a decent sized bite without sauce and it was hard to get down because it was dry. Though I will say the flavor was great, I'll try moist next time, but again, I don't think anyone wants brisket this dry. Turkey, just kinda bland, and again pretty dry. Sliced pretty thin so the outer seasoning wasn't enough to carry the seasoning throughout the bite. The cornbread, a nice (free) surprise. It was just too dry to really enjoy. Overall, I'll be back. I never the guy that comes in 10 minutes to close but almost an hour to close is acceptable. Ordered my food and the bill was just over $25. Actually way overpriced for what it was. I could go to Longhorn and sit down with way better food and atmosphere for that. Anyways food arrived and man you could tell they were trying to close shop. Cornbread was stale, mac n' cheese was sitting in the warmer for too long, sausage wasn't very warm, brisket was supposed to be lean and it was very fatty. Today was my first day trying out a Mission BBQ. Wow! Everything about it was Top Notch. Service was great, staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was amazing. Best barbecue I've had in the Phoenix area. The General Manager was there and working the counter with other staff. She came to my table and asked if I was a veteran. I said yes and she gave me one of their veteran VIP cards, and then we chatted a little bit about the restaurant and the new one that's going up in Goodyear soon. I can't say enough about what a great lunch experience this was, and I can't wait to go back. I understand the Goodyear restaurant is having a grand opening on February 6th and I plan to be there. read more
