As a local resident, I have been a customer of Mission Hardware for over 25 years. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and they do their best to help. After all these years I am still greeted by name and a smile. The store carries everything needed for home maintenance and repairs, including a wide selection of specialty plumbing parts. I have always been happy with the quality of their products and they can special order anything not stocked at the store. I am the manager of a few rental properties and even though it would be more convenient to shop at orange box store, I am happy to support the neighborhood store. Though I regularly shop at Mission Hardware, I used to purchase my water heaters from another store until Linda in plumbing told me that I should buy my water heaters from Mission Hardware because if I had any failures while under warrantee then I could simply bring the non-functional water heater back to the for an exchange. Firstly, I am glad I took her advice because the water heaters from Mission Hardware last longer and have fewer failures than water heaters from orange box store. Secondly, Mission Hardware water heater exchange under warrantee policy is fantastic because standard procedure is to call the water heater manufacturer after which you will receive a box of parts in a week to repair yourself. This water heater exchange policy was routine for over 20 years until yesterday, Tuesday July 16, 2024. I had a 40 gallon gas water heater fail while under warrantee so I went to Mission Hardware for an exchange. This time, Manager Gil helped me. Gil had processed a few water heater exchanges for me this past month (an unusual number of failed burners in water heaters made Fall 2019- perhaps lapse in quality control due to COVID-19?). After taking down my information Gil, Gil disappeared to an employee-only area for 10 minutes. When Gil returned, he told me that he would no longer exchange any water heaters for me because I have had too many exchanges recently and that from now on I would need to call the manufacturer first. I explained that I have Mission Hardware water heaters installed in about 30 units which means I buy about 3-4 new water heaters every year so of course I would experience a greater number of annual failures than someone who purchased one water heater every 7 years. Regardless, I had no problem with the policy as long as I was not being singled out and this policy was equally applied to everyone. Just so that I understood, I asked Gil to confirm that in the future I would not be allowed to exchange water heaters without calling the manufacturer first. Gil affirmed this. I then asked Gil if this was applied to everyone and Gil refused to answer. I asked Gil whether the next person who walked in requesting a water heater exchange would be directed to call the manufacture first. Gil replied with "I refuse to answer hypotheticals" At about 1:15pm, I asked to speak with you Joe, the owner, to clarify the policy because I literally spoke to you 3 weeks ago while you were washing out the gutters on the roof and I told you at the time how much I appreciated your water heater exchange policy and you shared with me that you adopted this policy after you saw an Asian customer go into the store with facial burns from trying to repair his own water heater decades ago. This time, I was told that you were out to lunch and so I spoke to Manager Nester. Nester is super cool, helpful, and a great value to the team. Nester patiently explained that the water heater sales rep had visited recently and that my recent exchange of 3 failures under warrantee had prompted the store to implement a new policy. Completely fair and again I wanted to make sure this was a general policy for everyone and that I was not being penalized for in essence buying too many water heaters. Nester assured me this was a new policy for everyone. I spoke with the manufacture on the phone and I did not have 6 days to wait for a new burner from Tennessee so I purchased a new water heater, installed it, and returned to the store @ 4:00pm again looking for Joe because the two "authorities" aka Managers, told me two different things and I wanted to know what the official store policy is. Nester told me that the new policy of calling the manufacture first applied to everyone. However, Gil told me that he does not answer hypotheticals? You can understand my confusion. But once again Joe sent Nester down @ 4:15pm to talk to me and so my question remains unanswered. I still respectfully look forward to clarification of the matter. Thank you read more

I came to purchase their paints. The paint is extremely LOW QUALITY and PEELS OFF my wall like crazy. I've never seen paint peel off this much before. I paid a lot of money and spent so much time painting my entire living room only to have this cheap paint peel off and ruin my walls. I even paid extra compared to other hardware stores. The paint claims to have primer but doesn't do it's job at all! I asked for a refund for the gallons of paint that I haven't opened but they refused to give me my money back. They came up with a bunch of excuses to not give me a refund. Look at the photos and see for yourself. Never coming back here again! Be honest when doing business. Be responsible for your products. Mission Hardware has been in San Gabriel for many years. I like coming here for different reasons. 1). I like the service here. The employees go out of their ways to try helping you. 2). It's not nearly as crowded as a huge home center, and Mission Hardware can accomplish your material needs. 3). Duplicating keys here is only .50 cents. What a deal!! Each time I come here, I feel the coziness from the help I get. Of course you must ask for help the majority of the times... but, the workers sometimes will ask you if you needed assistance. I have bought primer, paint, touch up paint, paint brushes, metal screens for windows, locks, made keys, automatic electric timers, etc. at Mission. They will take your returns with no questions asked, and even if you wanted to explain to them... they don't care. As long as the returned item is in its container and you have a receipt will do. There is an Ace hardware inside that makes keys. Only 65 cents! Compare that to the key machines in the supermarkets that charge $7.99, this is a steal. The key making process is also manually done, so it's pretty cool to watch to them make it. The guys there are super nice and they'll still cut keys five min before close! read more

If you need help on anything DIY, this is the place. Unlike like Home Depot or Lowe's where no one knows anything or wants to help, Mission hardware is a gem go to where you can understand what you actually need and use. Everyone in this store is super knowledgeable from helping and teaching me about cutting special mail box keys to frosting privacy glass, I seriously learn so much from the folks here! They actually ask you what you need help with instead of running the other direction like Home Depot! Wow! So glad we have a hardware store like this in town. The only down side is their selection less than that Home Depot but that is expected as it's a smaller place specializing in imparting knowledge and helpful tips to their customers. My father and I frequent this place a lot and hope they stay open for many years to come! read more

On phone told me they could cut down to proper size a plastic sleeve needed to keep an office chair from sliding all the way down the now airless hydraulic cylinder under the chair, which originally stayed put at whatever height you set it. Turned out today not to be the case. Instead I was told they wouldn't perform that service and that I needed to do it myself by purchasing lock down pliers to hold the plastic sleeve and a hacksaw. So I did and as you can see from the picture, the result is not pretty. A good hardware store should always be able to cut down to custom size what is basically a plastic plumbing sleeve or a pipe. Maybe when I called Thursday they had the time to do it, and not today, a busy Saturday? But then why not just tell me to come back when they have time? Now I am left with a hacksaw I'll probably never use again, lock down pliers I have no use for either, and a jagged plastic sleeve. Not a satisfied customer. read more

Somehow the window screen is not even, both side edge is attached, but middle is not attached and it leaves some space that allow fly to get in my house! The window screen is not made even when I get it in the store, it is like bended. Not really professional. I am not happy with this :( They don't adjust window screen or refined it. read more

Small place so it doesn't have the variety of things at a larger store but really good selection and prices for the size. I specifically needed a few bolts of specific sizes and they have a whole section of little shelves of nuts and bolts of various sizes that you can mix and match in a ziplock bag rather than having to buy a whole set of something when you only need one. Also, great customer service. Whenever I'm at Home Depot I have to chase down one of the workers to help me and it's kind of hit or miss how much they'll be able to help, but Mission Hardware really feels like a local store. Every single employee from the workers on the floor to the cashiers at the register go out of their way to be friendly and helpful to you. It really creates a different type of atmosphere than other stores. If you need something I highly recommend checking this place out before going to a big box hardware store. Parking is also plentiful in the lot and I've never seen it anywhere near full but there's also plenty of street parking around there if it is. Prices I would say are probably comparable to Home Depot so it's not a "discount" store, but it's definitely worth it to shop local. read more

I returned an unopen item to Mission Superhardware that l paid with my credit card 3 monthes ago, but the manager Master refused to credit back to my credit card , instead they issue me with their's own gift card ,they said it's after 3 monthes and only issue the gift card which is not fair for consumers . And also the bottom of the receipt said if you pay with a credit card then you will be refund with the same credit card , so you you buy anythings from there and return later you probably get a gift card instead of you your credit card . read more

Excellent Customer Service Experience with a Return!! I originally came to San Gabriel Mission Hardware, this past Wednesday, May 3, to have 3-Mailbox keys made, I got Home , the Keys(All 3) Did Not Work, they could Not even fit into the Mailbox, Lock. JRNL # F98053/1 I Returned to Mission Hardware, today, Sat, May 6, the First person to greet me as I Entered the Store was, Aaron, the Manager, Who asked me, "How Can We Help You?", I told him, I came in this Past Wednesday to have 3-keyes Copied, but they, All "3" Do Not Work", He told me to go back to the Key-Maker Desk and tell them the Copies Do Not Work and Jokingly to Smack the Back of the Key-makers Hands and ask for a "Re-Do". I explained my problem to the Key-maker Clerk, the Key-maker told me he did not have any more of the blanks in Stock for a "Re-Do" and that he could only offer me a Refund and the two of us walked toward the Cashier then Aaron asked to see to my original key, then Aaron asked the key-maker to verify there were No More blanks for mailbox keys, Aaron then told me that he give me a Full Refund and will Personally "Cut " me 3-copies of my mailbox key and to go directly to Cashier and he will take the keys up to the Cashier Desk. Amy the Cashier gave me My Cash Refund ($2.15), JRNL # F99818/1 a few minutes later Aaron presented me with 3-keys copies and Original keys. My bathtub started leaking.......drip......drip......drip.......and it was like this for a little while, then leaking more..drip..drip..drip..drip. It was getting so bad that the water would fill a small bucket in a few hours. My Dad and I decided to fix the leak and took apart the shower knobs and assembly. We head to Home Depot to buy the replacement parts (stems, flange, and handles), but they didn't sell a long enough stem. WHAT?!? HD doesn't sell something for the house? They should change their name! Fortunately, I knew about Mission Hardware although the HD employees suggested the company to us. We head to Mission Hardware (luckily only less than 10 minutes away) and they had the long stems we needed. Plus, the employees were very knowledgeable and friendly, which is why I give MSH 5 stars! I had been here previously to make keys and thought to myself, "How can they survive with HD and Lowes as competitors???" Well, I've found out. MSH carries items that are hard to find as well as everyday items and has SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! That's what sets them apart. After getting our parts and trying to install them, we found out that we needed other parts to make everything work. We went back to MSH first and bought the extender, longer screws, and handles to fit the bathroom. It worked perfectly! Thanks MSH. Yes, some items are more expensive than HD, but I did find the shower handles at MSH were much less. The item at MSH was $12.98 for two and at HD they were $19.98! Well, one day, I finished bathing my animals and I used the towel rack to hoist myself up (I know, really old-geezer of me :P) Surprise, my fatass broke the towel rack. After having my piano instructor/handyman check what was wrong, apparently, the last guy had used a too-short wood screw (whose threads were too wide) to hold the metal towel rack to the steel shower door. Home Depot failed me, telling me that the smallest screw they had was 4 metric, and I needed a 3 metric. Home Depot guy told me to go to Mission Hardware, so I did. It was only a few minutes before I flagged down a worker who led me to the hardware dude, who (dropped everything he was doing &) was promptly helpful, and who matched and found the 3 metric screw with finer threads. 17 cents and a short drive home later, the screw fit perfectly and the towel rack is as steady as it's every been, holding 2 thick and heavier towels.
