Home Depot's nursery section is a fantastic place to shop for plants, with knowledgeable and friendly staff who are always willing to help. The selection is excellent, with beautiful shrubs, herbs, and flowers that are in full bloom. Everything looked well-maintained and thriving, making it a great spot for gardeners of all levels. Right now, they have great deals on ever-bearing strawberries--$3.88 for a six-pack (normally $5.98). Their garden performance plants come primarily from the Burpee brand, which is known for quality. The pot and planter selection is also extensive, though not necessarily the cheapest. However, if you're looking for soil, this is a great place to buy. The Miracle-Gro garden soil deal of 3 for $10 is better than what I've seen at other stores. On a Friday afternoon, the store was busy, and the checkout lines were long, but the efficiency of the staff helped keep things moving. There's plenty of parking available, though the lot itself didn't feel the safest. I noticed groups of people--likely construction workers looking for gigs--wandering around, along with some unhoused individuals near the area. While this didn't directly affect my experience, it's something to be aware of if you're shopping here alone or at night.

Employees are friendly and will help you look for the item you need! Good selection. Garden section is cute.

My tree all assembled so easy and waiting for the ornaments.

I went in last night to buy a Christmas tree that was on sale. There were none on the floor of that model. So I asked an associate, Angel, if they were out of them. He went to the floor and there were none to be found...then he went to aisle five and looked on the high stacked ones for it...none there. Then he went out in the garden area and found some on a pallet. This very happy customer walked out with the Christmas tree I wanted and very impressed with the customer service from Angel !

I went to the Home Depot at 9700 Lower Azusa Rd, El Monte, CA to buy a tool that was clearly priced on the rack, but manager Fernando D refused to sell it to me at that price. When I asked why, he wouldn't give an answer and instead refused me service and told me to leave the store. He kept threatening to call the police but never did -- because there was no reason to. I stayed calm and respectful the entire time. At the end, he even said, "It's fine, I'll wait until I close and you can't buy anything." This was unprofessional, discriminatory, and humiliating. No customer deserves to be treated this way. I hope Home Depot reviews this incident seriously and holds this manager accountable.

COVID-19: Social distancing is not enforced at this establishment. Some of the staff wears a mask. All customers are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. None of the staff wears gloves. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is open and available with no limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing some stuff from this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is fricken huge. Some spots are smaller than others so be careful where you park. Store & Staff: The store itself is very neat, clean, tidy, and organized. The staff here are very kind, friendly, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum.

What can I say. They're there when I need something and they are fairly organized and pleasant. Their app helps with the lack of service, but sometimes it's easier with technology than finding someone.

I also got a healthy cucumber plant and received some coupons, which was a nice bonus. I forgot to ask the name of the tall older gentleman at the register, but he was incredibly helpful. Thank you! I'll definitely be back for the orchids--they're beautiful, and the nursery has an amazing selection of plants.

There are several major north-south roads in this area, and Rosemead Boulevard is one of them. San Gabriel Boulevard is another. The road is wide and easy to drive. The nursery is right across the street from Com Tam Kieu Restaurant, one of the better Vietnamese broken rice restaurants in Southern California. On the way there, I passed a construction site, probably a new apartment building. It strongly gave me the impression of an EB-5 green card project, the kind of real estate development marketed less as a normal apartment building and more as an immigration investment package for Chinese buyers. In the middle of the SGV, that feeling was hard to miss. After that came the nursery. I drove from north to south, made a left turn onto a smaller street, and parked outside. The entrance is tiny. You walk through it and immediately reach the counter, where there was even a line. After that, you pass into an indoor room stocked with fertilizers, plant stakes, soil, mulch, and other gardening supplies. Beyond that is the back garden, which is much larger than expected and quite elegant. The plants are clearly well cared for, and the stone sculptures give the place a strong hint of Chinese culture. Along the edge of the main building, there are stacks of Buddha heads, seated Buddhas, and other stone figures, mostly in Chinese Buddhist or imagined Buddhist styles, though not necessarily following any strict traditional standard. There are Chinese signs everywhere, which makes sense for a nursery in the middle of the SGV. Many of the plants have bilingual names. The prices are not cheap, but they are fair. The orchids are much more expensive than what you would find at Trader Joe's or Costco, but they are also more beautiful and much stronger, so I would not call them overpriced. The plants use different colored tags, similar to what you see in many American discount stores. Some are very cost-effective. It is definitely worth stopping by, and even more worth it if you happen to find some good discounted plants. The cashier was a little rude, but as a Chinese person, I found it completely acceptable. I have seen much worse. Even though she was in a rush, the service was not bad. She even gave me an extra bag so the soil would not spill in my car. Overall, this is a good nursery and I would recommend it. It is even better if you understand Chinese culture, because many of the details will make more sense.

The nursery is not a retail establishment; however, if you are planning to redo your yard and need a lot of plants, you can send your landscaper to Sakaida and Mike will work with him, or you. Or if you want a couple of big trees. If you want just a few plants, go to San Gabriel Nursery; they are a great outfit. Sure, you can get plants cheaper at Home Depot, but their sales people aren't nurserymen and they really don't know anything about plants, soils, fertilizer, growing seasons, watering, etc. If you want to buy a tree, Mike is going to ask "Where are you going to plant it?" I was going to buy a couple of large mulberry trees and plant them in the front yard and he warned: "Don't plant it near the driveway or sidewalk...as it gets older, it is going to raise them!" Mike saved me from a disaster. You won't get this kind of advice at Home Depot.

I've picked up a miracle fruit tree, passion fruit, and wax apples here, and I'm already planning to come back for a sapodilla and sugar apple if he has them in stock. If you're into rare fruit trees, you'll probably find yourself wandering around longer than you planned. The owner reminds me of Deebo from Friday (the movie). He's usually cruising around the nursery on his beach cruiser with a serious look on his face, making rounds and checking on the trees. He isn't the type to walk you through the nursery or give you a guided tour. If you have questions, you'll probably need to flag him down yourself. The funny thing is he kind of grows on you. His answers are usually short and to the point, and if you're serious about varieties, you'll want to do your own research because the labeling can be a little sketchy and his answers aren't always crystal clear. What won me over is that he's fair on pricing and willing to negotiate. On larger trees, I've been able to bargain him down close to 30%, often even a lot more. That's getting harder and harder to find these days at other nurseries. It's definitely not the polished nursery experience you'll get at some of the other places, but that's part of the charm. Good inventory, good deals, and a memorable owner. I'm not making this stuff up. You just have to come experience it yourself. Maybe go on a Friday! :P
