I have been to to this establishment a number of times now. The service is really a hit or miss. I've had times where a small group of us sat outside and had someone consistently asking if we needed anything. Other times we are ignored completely. On one occasion I had a distastful encounter with some of the patrons of the night. When I go to a bar it doesn't give drunkards permission to say whatever might pop into their heads about what they would like to do to me. And boy is it nervy when my husband is clearly standing right next to me. This was a complete turnoff although I can't completely blame Mister Tramps for this. I do have to admire Mr. Tramps for their fine selection of beers. They have one of the widest selections I have seen so far in Austin. My favorite is Old Chub. Very dark and intimidating to view, it has a smooth raisin like quality to it and isn't as bitter as most dark beers tend to be. They have a beer for every mood and sampling off of the beer menu is a lot of fun. They also seem to cater to gaming events and hold convention like meetings here for people interested in making video games. They have a great set up for this with their back room equipped with a projector and screen and are good about filling glasses without interrupting the talks. I have to say I was extremely disappointed by the food. So bland, it seemed like there was no seasoning to it at all. I ordered the eggplant parmesan and the sauce tasted like it came straight out of a can labeled tomato paste. It did NOTHING for me. My friend ordered the fried calimari. I would have thought it hard to screw up this order since the batter usually covers up most of the taste but even this lacked complete flavor and was the blandest crap I have ever tasted. All and all, I will probably be back to this place. My friends tend to like to go here and I usually go for the company and the beer selection although I wouldn't be the one to suggest going back. read more

Fun and grungy sports bar. Came here for Cowboy playoff game. Crowd was fun and loud. Service was good if you order early. Otherwise had to wait a bit. I may go here for Super Bowl based on crowd vibe. They have a good selection of beers on tap and bottles. Food was also good. We had appetizers. I've held off on writing a review for a number of reasons. The main reason being that most of my visits involved coming here after the ingestion of mass amounts of ethyl alcohol. Well, I can proudly say that my last visit was a sober one...at least, it started out that way. Televisions adorn every corner of this great little pub, making it a great destination to watch various sporting events of your choice. I've come in the past to watch football (the European variety...probably better known to you as soccer). This visit was for Monday night football. Cowgirls vs Redskins. I won't get into the details about he game...I'm sure it's common knowledge. We were able to procure a large table in the back room, directly under the glow of the projection screen. Along with the screen and a number of televisions, one is ensured a view of the game, no matter which way you are facing. This makes it possible to face the person across from you, who may or may not be engaging you in conversation, thus allowing you to make occasional eye contact to give the impression that you are actually paying attention to what they are saying when in reality, your gaze is past their ear, directed at the game. Now guys...this still takes skill. Mr Tramps is the place to practice that skill. Monday night is $5 pitcher night. That would be $5 pitchers of mixed drinks. Now, they are actually half pitchers and are not heavy pours, but for $5, it's still a decent deal. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is good. The queso is spicy and rich. The calamari perfectly fried...not greasy and still tender. A fellow sports enthusiast and I decided to try a pizza. We agreed on the Vagabond. Leeks, bacon, goat cheese, and pesto...sounds like a winner! The pizza had great flavor and was enough to satisfy the both of us. The only shortcoming for me was the crust. It was almost cracker like. Nothing wrong with that type of crust, I just prefer a slightly chewier crust...but like I said...it was still a damn good pizza. There were a number of other intriguing items on the menu in addition to a great beer selection. So, Monday night football with a yet unexplored menu will bring me back for sure... read more

The two starts "Meh. I've experienced better" is a pretty good description. The food is the last thing you'll want to go there for. Overpriced, weak portions and has a charming brown/yellow fried coloring on 90% of their dishes. The location isn't great either and they're way too crowded on trivia nights. OK, I'm hooked! Had no idea what to expect from Mister Tramps. Heck, I'd driven by it (or over it) on 183 so many times... I never expected a place this good even existed down there below the highway. And boy is it good! Yes, it's a great pub and it has over 130 beers on tap (the owner Alfredo told me he had that many beers to mask his favorite one so nobody else would drink it!). But the food was truly the surprise. We were helped along by Rob who made excellent suggestions. I had the Lasagna, which is hand made in limited numbers every day. It truly was the finest lasagna I've tasted. Vegetarian style... no meat, and also not a lot of sauce. But the cheese mixture was out of this world! I also tried a cup of the corn and crawfish chowder to start. Fantastic flavor, and just the right amount of BAMMM! Sherri had a chicken salad sandwich with fries which she also enjoyed very much. The atmosphere is very nice. Lot's of plasma screens to take in the sports. I assume they have WI-FI because I saw a lot of people working on their laptops. Just writing this makes me want to go try something new! After showing up late and being rejected by Pluckers, my trivia posse wandered down 183 to get our trivia on with the Geeks Who Drink crew. We sat in the "champagne room" which is just that back room with couches, folding plastic tables, and projectors playing very entertaining soccer clips on to the wall. We enjoyed the whole bar food experience: the pizza was good, they have beer by the pitcher, and the wings were super spicy - I ordered mild and spent my time crying onto my celery sticks, convincing everyone that I was accidentally given the wrong order. Our server seemed pretty disinterested in us at first but he warmed up eventually, I really appreciated that they do separate checks! And oh my god, so much parking. read more

Loving this new menu they have, the soups of the day are fantastic. Had some of the curry this week, during the snow. Great way to warm up. The new burgers are pretty good, the meat at least. The buns are eh. But the onion rings, oooooohhhhhh. Freaking yummy. I want this place to be terribly popular and busy all the time, but I also want to just keep it quiet so I can have the bar to my group of friends only. Mister Tramps- what a name! To be honest I was ready to ignore you just because of it. I thought- Is it a 'wanna-be' Gentleman's club without the license (do you need a license for that?)... Anyways, we just moved up north to 183 away from our cute East Side bungalow and I was feeling lonely and far away from culinary treats and libations. The Three-Stars is for the beer selection only, and that its north Austin. There isn't a whole lot of choices for beer places when you get that far north, so having an option is awesome. That said, their food ranges from meh to horrible with one exception. The brownie a la mode was fan-freaking-tastic. I want one right now as I'm typing this. The pizza was meh. The crust was thin, but way too thin. It was like eating it on a cracker, a soggy cracker. The flavors of the pizza was good, but that crust was not good. The salad was ok. The dressing - some kind of ranch - was super thick and very tasteless. But on par with bar food. Then a friend of mine ordered the peach cobbler. It was cobbler-esque and had a crust on top with a soupy sweet filling under it. My friend took one bite and refused to eat it. So I tried a bite to see just how bad it was. Had he not told me it was peach, I would never have known. There were maybe 3 little bits of peach in it. The predominate flavor of it was clove. It tasted like a sweet spicy brown sugar soup with so much clove that after 3 bites my mouth started to feel a little tingly. Very much not peach cobbler. I was really disappointed with the food as I read all the reviews on here and expected much better. The waitress did say they had a new chef. So this might be a sign of things to come. read more

Great place for Dallas Cowboys games! The servers were attentive and friendly, good prices, good food- I don't recommend the queso fries, but they weren't terrible. The fried pickles were delish, and the beer was cold! Plenty of tv screens to catch whatever you're trying to watch. We'll certainly go back!! read more

So, I've made it to Mister Tramps now a few times for the Wednesday Trivia. It's a great time in a unique location for a bar, i.e. a strip center housing Target and a number of Asian stores/restaurants. That said, and given the sad attendance even on trivia night, I cannot envision a scenario where this place will be around for the long haul...albeit, I'd be happy to be wrong. One slight irritant at the top. I understand it's a "European" sports bar. Great, I get it, ten TV's with futbol. Knock yourself out one guy in the Manchester United jersey. But, what's with five TV's set to bowling? There's nothing European, or entertaining for that matter, about bowling. Five TV's? An NBA playoff game, starring a team about sixty miles down I-35 was playing...like 'em or not, one shouldn't have to ask for ONE television to be playing said game. Now to the goods. The happy hour beer choices, which are available to 11:00, are adequate and the prices of these selections are good. Yet, it's a serious headscratcher that the local brews, notably those from Live Oak, cost $5.75. That's insanity...people, the brewery is about five miles away...so, it's not the transportation costs. How can that price possibly be justified? The same can be said for the 512 selections, and the Real Ale options to a lesser extent. The food is good in spots, and okay in others. One of the highlights is the Brie Pizza. The combination of brie, pesto, garlic, pecans and figs is mighty tasty. The pizza portions are also large enough that it can be split between two people. Another standout is the Club sandwich. Their version varies from the usual recipe in that they serve the sandwich with chicken, instead of ham, along with avocado and pesto mayo. Moving along to some of the less stellar options...the pork sliders are good, although they come in three bite size portions. The Drunken Chips and Cheese and Drunken Fries are pedestrian. The name is catchy and implies there is something unique going on, but in reality it's just chips and fries with their smoky queso poured over them. The wings, both the Hail Mary and BBQ flavors, were enjoyed by my trivia partner, but honestly, I didn't find anything memorable about them. The onion rings are equally passable, but not something that I'll seek out. The service is pretty spotty. When the servers are around they are very friendly, but you can go twenty minutes without seeing anybody...and then they'll be spells when they'll stop by twice within a five minute span. This is when there's about ten folks in the place, total. Also, I never really know who our server is there. I'm left wondering, can I flag down this guy, or is she or waitress...well, wait, that guy took our last drink order...hell, I don't know! So, good for a drink...great for trivia. Stop by while you can, I'm thinking longevity is one of the handful or so things this place doesn't have going for it. read more

Located in north central Austin, Mister Tramps is a fantastic locally owned bar. The bar has many taps for a smaller setting which is a big plus. They recently this year expanded the rear of the building into a large party room area. Mister Tramps also has a full bar, along with their taps. The menu has quite the variety to chose from. I've had several different items and I've enjoyed all that I have experienced. The Italian sidecar sandwich is probably my favorite menu item of all. Mister Tramps is the local bar where as you enter, the waitstaff usually greets you by name. They are friendly and show off great service. There are plenty of flat panel TVs to enjoy just about any sporting event you can imagine. I watch most of the World Cup here. This is a cool little hang out and enjoy every visit I make. read more

An odd name for an odd place. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, though if it were any farther under 183 it would be begging for change at a stoplight. The interior is pleasantly surprising, the service is not. Our waiter? 1st day on the job My first three choices of beer? All out. Oh, and one of them isn't being carried anymore, despite being on the menu. Food? It's above average, good really. We happened upon Mr. Tramps during pub trivia night, where we placed a solid 14th (there were only 3 of us, and we weren't smarmy cheating bastards). By now, I really just need a shock collar when it comes to judging places by the way the venue looks on the outside. Anyway, this definitely isn't a new steakhouse by any means, but it's awesome and not on 6th Street. You have to walk past the large outdoor patio to get in. Once inside, there's one wrap-around bar, lots of flatscreens, and a huge back foyer that looks like it plays home to some major Poker tournaments (I've only passed by enroute to the bathroom). LOL! I can't remember if its actually called "The Drunken Queso" or not, but while your brain is saying "No!" your mouth is clearly saying "Yes!" I always get "The Don" sandwich (mozzarella, tomato, pesto). Get the fries. FRIES, I say... They are much better than the onion rings. They have an ample beer selection, as well as a fairly extensive cocktail menu (they list ingredients and this helps). I took some non-locals there just a weekend ago and they ended up loving it so much they added it to their places to hit up again. read more

I have driven by this bar so many times and always laughed at the name and wondered what it was like inside. So recently I was invited to meet a friend of mine who was there to see a band play. It was a Saturday night so it was pretty crowded, but we parked behind the building and there was tons of parking. The inside was really loud, several tv screens with different things on in the front room. There was plenty of seating. In the backroom, the band was playing. It wasn't too loud that I couldn't hear my friends in the front room, so it was nice that people in the front of the bar weren't subjected to the music if they didn't want be. The front patio was pretty nice, lots of tables as well. The alcohol prices were average. This whole place was just average to me. read more

It's been over a year of regular attendance and I haven't reviewed you. I just didn't want to before now. Finally, I feel you have your bar (sh*te) together. I have had fantastic service. I've also had horrible service. However, I have never had either kind of service consistently, until now. I can now say service is consistent. Service is really good. Of course, I write this review as I sit at the bar (chaching, wireless!), sipping on my dos, getting grade A service. If you sit at the bar, which I like to do often, your service will be great. If you sit somewhere out in the restaurant area, it may not be great, but it will be okay. For what it's worth, I love this place. It's a neighborhood bar, that honestly feels like a neighborhood bar. It's not a dive bar. Just a good old neighborhood bar. Their food is amazing for a bar and definitely sets it far apart from every other bar in the area. The brie pizza is a little bit of crunchy amazingness with pesto and figs. The Thai Red Curry is really smooth. The Corn and Crawfish Bisque is so buttery and incredibly tasty you can't turn it away. I tried breakfast here recently and wow! The Drunken Benedict is smothered in queso instead of hollandaise sauce. Holy Mama of G@d...what a great twist on the benedict! I have to say this, because their is no reason not to have a kick arse bloody mary...the ONE complaint I have is the bloody mary sucks bloody cow b@lls. The bloody mary is a staple drink. Everyone knows about the bloody mary. Bloody Marys are on special during breakfast. However, Mr. Tramps uses some cheap bloody mary mix and the mix is not good. Blasphemy! read more

I just needed a little bite before donning my gold pants and furry leggings to head to a killer party on the East Side. My favorite little dirty hole-in-the wall bar in central Austin. Food is pretty good. The cheeseburgers are super tasty & only about $8. I also love that they offer a lot of different types of beer. Just moved to the area and was looking for a nice spot to watch the game on sundays, I'm an eagles fan and it just so happened to be a huge eagles bar. Great atmosphere and even greater food. I had the fish and chips which filled me up (a 6 foot man) and it was well worth the price of $11.50. I'm definitely coming back every Sunday. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Mr. Tramps a couple weeks ago and we were pleasantly surprised! They are still working on the outside decor and have plans to expand the interior. It's already a great place, but i will be really awesome once renovations are complete! The beer selection is quite impressive and they seem to have some sort of special every day of the week. The food menu, to be expanded, had great bar food and some innovative recipes. The bruschetta appetizer was amazing and the vagabond pizza was awesome! The club sandwich wasn't the greatest (a little skimpy on the ingredients). The owner and head chef were very friendly and chatted with us for a while, telling us about plans to continue renovations and change up the menu. This is definitely a place to keep and eye on and could be a great neighborhood establishment. I would recommend checking it out! read more

A friend and I decided to stop in for a beer after having dinner, and BOY were we sad that we had just eaten! The menu looked awesome, so we vowed to come back for dinner. We had drinks that first visit, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the Olympics, chatting with the owner, and meeting the friendly bartender. We went again the next week at the same time, this time to get in on that dinner action.. She had the lasagna, and loved it (this coming from someone who generally isn't a lasagna person), and I had some brushetta. they were both QUITE tasty. The chicken pot pie also looked pretty good - so I'd say the food is definitely above average as far as bars go. In any case, I was pleasantly surprised to find a little gem in that neighborhood, and especially loved the fact that I could HEAR people in my party at a bar, and didn't have to yell over the TV or music. I'm reluctant to review this place. It's kind of one of those hidden gems that isn't overrun with people who think waiting an hour for a table is acceptable. I want it to remain that way. But sometimes when something is good, you gotta say so. Food fabulous -- especially the pig out nachos and Thai soup ---- beer selection pretty darn good. Gotta love a place that promotes local breweries and has a decent beer selection on draft! So, for all the people who think chain restaurants are acceptable, drink Bud and Coors crap, and will wait 45 minutes or more for a table -- this place sucks! Horrible, horrible, horrible! This place has its good points and its bad points. The good: The food is amazing. Some of the best I've ever eaten at a gastropub. It's a limited selection but still amazing. Also, they had all tvs tuned to the Olympics which I love. USA, USA, USA!! The bad: Our waiter could give a crap. He wasn't all that friendly and anytime you asked him for something he seemed bothered. He also spilled a drink on my friend but that's another story. When the bartender brought our appetizers out he literally tossed them on the table, they seriously slid from one side to the other. And the other bad was that this place was ridiculously hot. Like they refused to turn on the AC or something. One of my favorite lunch spots, this place is everything I want in a sports bar. A good selection of beer that changes on a regular basis, very friendly bartenders who are fun to talk to, and pretty good food. Check out some of the food specials if you want to change it up a bit, but their standard menu isn't bad. Personally I like the pizzas and the Thai soup is really good. They have a variety of events that take place throughout the week, including an open mic stand up comedy night. It's one of the things for me that distinguishes this place above all of the other various pubs you could go to. That they have a variety of things going on to offer some cheap entertainment along with the variety of sports going on the TV's. The best part of this place though, to me, is the bartenders. Really nice, down to earth, fun loving folk. Tip them well! read more

Came here with friends to watch the Saints game with friends. Enjoyed a couple of appetizers during the first half. I never felt rushed and the Pig Out Nachos and the Quesadillas were top notch. Had the bacon cheeseburger for the main course during the second half. Staff was welcoming and attentive and never felt rushed to order. Plenty of televisions to watch any game. I'm not really sure what the draw to this place is besides the vast amounts of TV's. Their beer higher priced than that of many other places in Austin (including Rainey/6th) and their chairs/tables seem to resemble the remnants of a restaurant that use to be there. We went for trivia and it was super crowded so we sat outside. The outside area was nice - plenty of TVs and a speaker system. The problem was that our waitresses was clearly juggling too many tables - which meant that it was extremely difficult to place any orders, or for her to remember our orders since she didn't write them down. After my husband finished his first beer he told her that he'd wait to order another because he wasn't ready yet. She brought him out another beer anyway (same one he ordered)... Not a huge deal, she just wasn't listening or writing anything down. The food was okay. We wanted to get fried pickles but they were out of pickles (how does that even happen?). So we got nachos and pizza instead, which were okay. Again, the food wasn't amazing, and I think they were trying a bit too hard to be fancy when they should probably just stick to more traditionally styled bar food. It was fairly difficult to park there since they were so busy, and most of us ended up parking near the mattress store, or elsewhere. Mister Tramps is a private company and has the right to refuse service to anyone, especially someone who has a liability (like a baby) with them. The TABC is not an entity to screw with. It is easier than it seems for someone working for TABC to try to enter a bar and then shut them down for things like this. This place is great and the employees have always been very friendly. Nicer than it looks like it would be on the outside, this fun little gastro-pub has great sandwiches and pizzas at very reasonable prices. Servings are big, drinks are affordable, and the barstaff is friendly. I've only been for lunch, but it seems like a good happy-hour or dinner spot too. Plus, they have soccer on in HD on a number of televisions. That alone will bring me back! But throw in the excellent food and I think I'll make this a regular stop now. read more

Last night, I wanted to watch football. Specifically, I wanted to watch the Purdue/ND game, the Penn State/Iowa game, and the UH/Tech game - prioritized in that order. We go to another sports bar in the area (which shall remain nameless) who tells us that if we want to sit inside it's a 45 min. wait or we can sit outside where there is only one TV. I ask which game will be on the TV and the hostess replied Cal vs. Arizona - note those two teams were not actually playing each other. Peace out! "Let's go try that random place that just opened across the highway." HEAVEN SENT! We walked into Mister Tramps and immediately got a table. The sassy waitress sauntered over and asked us which games we wanted to watch. I rattled off my list of requests and she immediately set them up on the three nearest TVs! CHEERS! Fantastic draft beer selection. Yummy food - although I would've killed for a burger and they are not on the menu - the pizza was delicious as was the reuben. So I have been here a lot, I can safely say this is a good bar. It's somewhere nice and casual you can go after work or to hang out on the weekends. The beer selection is good and fairly priced. From what I understand their bartenders serve good, stiff drinks and they are always friendly to me. The staff and owner are very friendly and the staff really take care of you. If you sit outside you will get a bit less attention but I can tell the waitress' try and be as attentive as they can. The food, the food is great for a bar. Pizza is freaking delish! I like the vagabond, I think it's called, and their lone star onion rings. The environment can differ, from sports to humour to geeks-who-drink trivia night. But every time it's lighthearted and comfortable. Overall, I get people to come here all the time and never had one person complain. read more

I've always found the service to be attentive, even on the busiest of nights (usually Wednesdays, when they host Geeks Who Drink trivia). Also, free pizza after midnight, if you order a pitcher of beer. I've come by to watch a couple Packers games when I don't feel like venturing to Billy's, and, while it's not a Packers bar, it's always on at least one screen. If it's not, they'll likely (and gladly) change it for you. I don't feel like their football allegiance is consistent, it seems like they change "teams" every season. Or, maybe it's just that I've not really paid attention, except when my Packers are on. If you're a big soccer fan then this is the place you need to go to. They are known for televising all of soccer games there. The drink prices are pretty good. Whoops! Totally forgot to review this place. My co workers and I used to come here pretty often whenever I worked up north. I've never been there after lunch time. We never had any problems with the service but it also doesn't get very busy during lunch. I saw that they had a pretty good beer selection on tap. Which is awesome. The place is pretty divey and it's what I would call a bar with good food. Now for the food, I don't think I've had anything that I didn't really like from here. I've tried a couple of their pizzas and they're delicious. The crust isn't very thick and they have the right amount of toppings. I've also had their bacon cheeseburger and was not let down. The meat is seasoned well and it's a good sized burger for the price. I've had several of their sandwiches and I think my favorite is the Don or the club. The Don is vegetarian and yummy.
