We just had, at Mitchell's, one of the best breakfasts ever! It looks really nice on the outside. I thought it was going to cost a lot. Then, I saw the menu and realized how reasonably priced they are! Server was extremely nice, informative, and took good care of our meal service. Lastly, the food was sooo delicious!! We had the Leo (Lox, Eggs, Onions) omelette. It was the real deal. Nom, Nom! And the home fries! Yum! I had the Challah French Toast with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and ham. I like the new location of Mitchell's. I had the turkey burger with Greek salad lunch special. It came with soup. I had the matzah ball soup. It was very good. I loved the Greek salad. Had breakfast while waiting for my car serviced for my Subaru next door. Was bit hesitated due to mixed reviews but was so close and didn't wanted to walk far as it was cold. Turned out that it was hit for me. Was promptly seated. Order was fairly quick and coffee was refilled quick. Staff was very friendly. My kids and i went here on Thanksgiving before heading to the black friday madness at Bestbuy. It was an emotionally draining day for us (first holiday season of my separation), but the food and the wait staff was pleasant. We had steak and eggs, steak quesadillas, and chicken tenders. If you're afraid of getting COVID stay away from this place. ! A good portion of the staff, including the owner and his daughter do not wear mask. This behavior obviously encourages some of the staff not to wear their mask. To make matters worse the daughter gave us attitude for calling her out on it!!! I was looking for a new diner to try out on the Island and came across Mitchell's since they were the only diner open at 8am on a Sunday morning. So I decided to give it a try, not knowing what to expect of this place. On the outside it seemed like a fancy restaurant and not a diner. As I made my way inside I got this cozy vibe. This is a very well maintained diner. The seats are well upholstered and very clean tables. We were greeted by a very friendly host and were seated promptly. On my first visit I ordered the eggs benedict- two poached eggs, canadian bacon, toasted english muffin, topped with hollandaise sauce with home fries $8.50. My second time around I ordered a Cheese Omelette $7.50 plus $1.00 for cheese plus .50 cent for onion and a side of home fries. The food was good on both occasions and friendly waitress. Every neighborhood needs a good diner, and Valley Stream has Mitchell's. No, it is not ground breaking, earthshattering cuisine. But at 11AM when someone wants a stack of pancakes and someone else wants a hamburger and someone else wants a big salad, and you want it all to taste good... Mitchell's has got it. Family friendly and convientely located, Mitchell's is a regular stop for me and the fam. And what I love about them is, that unlike the Ihop's of the area, they handle the morning and after church rush exceptionally well. Continuing my recent theme of re-visiting places that my wife & I haven't visited in years, it was time to re visit this old diner that's been a Valley Stream staple for generations. On first glance it is clear they have renovated recently as the interior is one of the nicest looking diners I've seen. The food was a mixed bag. We went for breakfast and it didn't start off well. Our iced coffee was watered down and was sent back. The replacement was better. The Banana Pancakes were fragrant, large and quite tasty with nice caramelization and a crispy exterior. Challah French Toast was mediocre and tasted factory-fresh. Turkey sausage tasted hotdog like. The pancakes alone warrant another visit in the future. I've been here twice with my godmother. It's a pretty good place. The last time I went we both had spinach pie, it was the best spinach pie I've eaten to date. The phylo dough was crispy, buttery and flaky in all the right amounts. They always have a waiter or bus boy circulating the place to refill your coffee. The salad with our spinach pie was unbelievably fresh. The place is kept clean. If you are around Valley Stream it's definitely worth the eats over here! read more

I went on a Sunday around 11:30, found parking on the street close by and was seated immediately. I was impressed to realize that this restaurant has bee around since 1938. The restaurant was clean with an updated decor. They made my scrambled eggs with cheese just right and gave a generous portion of potatoes. Their menu offered variety. I've been back since the renovation and the restaurant is much brighter! The place is popping and the food is still decent. The staff are all great and attentive. Best thing about Mitchell's now is that ice cream bar in the back. Lots of flavors and is reminiscent of those oldie ice cream parlor get ups. read more

I've come here a handful of times and can say it's a fantastic spot overall - one of my favourite diners by far. The order said it should arrive by 11:40 according to the app. When it was 12:10 I called the restaurant to check the status and a woman was very obnoxious on the phone and basically just said they were extremely busy so the order would be prepared soon. It was an omelette and they told me they didn't have the time to prepare it after over an hour. My office is down the block from the restaurant. After a lonnggg night, I woke up starving and my friend suggested we grab some breakfast at this place. It was pretty empty when we got here we were seated right away and the waitress took our orders right away. For my drink I ordered a lemonade which they say is freshly squeezed. It did taste fresh, I really liked it. For my entree I ordered a Belgian waffle with eggs, turkey bacon, turkey sausages and a side of wheat toasts and butter. Sounds like a lot of food but it sure didn't look like it when I received my food. I wish they served larger portions however everything did taste good. The waffle was the only thing that I thought could have tasted better. I was really enjoying my toast though, it was toasted well. It was warm and not burnt. There was also a good amount of butter. When she forgets or we ask for something she gets annoyed like it's our fault. Also we were able to overhear a conversation she was having with another female waitress and she was really harsh and rude. Someone should address this. Once is ok. People have bad days. Went here for the first time for a late breakfast. My boyfriend and I were seated right away by very friendly staff. I ordered the onion rings based on other yelp reviews and I was not disappointed!!! They are amazing!! Special sauce that comes with them is addicting. However the French toast was a little lack luster. It was pretty bland. Not bad, just not memorable. I probably wouldn't order it again. My boyfriend ordered an omelet with home fries and said it was delicious. Our waitress was Joann and she was lovely. Also really appreciate the staff always making sure we had full coffee/water. A typical diner. What do you expect? I only know about Mitchell's because when I was in high school, I was in a club that would ALWAYS come here as a tradition after every show. I enjoy the quesadillas and burgers. Oh! And the ice cream. I have tried some of their sandwiches which were alright. The burgers are like 7$-10$ and some come with fries and sides, etc etc. The prices are really reasonable and the portions are ok. I always tried to play safe when ordering food here. I went here for a Sunday brunch. Typically, I love this place and the service is amazing. However, this time was a bit different experience. I walked in and the restaurant was packed. I walked up to the hostess to ask about the wait time, but she completely ignored me. She carried on with her conversation as if I wasn't standing there. I finally got her attention long enough to ask how long the wait time would be and she responded, "all tables are full right now." Thank you for stating the obvious. But, thankfully the rest of my experiences there were a lot better than the initial greeting. A few minutes later, the owner walked over and personally sat us down. He was pleasant. Mitchell's was a frequent dining spot for me back when I lived on Long Island, and even now I try to return any time I'm back in the area. The food is consistently solid, service is friendly, and there is a certain classiness following their renovation a couple years ago that makes it feel nicer than ever. I'll admit that I have a love for diners in general, because I'm immediately happy with anyplace that I allows me to an omelet and toasted toast at all hours of the day. However, at Mitchell's I've often branched out to other, more elaborate dishes and have never been disappointed. The salmon dinner I had at my last visit was especially fresh and flavorful. I've been to lots of diners in my days in LI, but to me this one just feels a bit better, and a bit more like home to me. While some may be intimidated about the many options, one of my favorite things about Mitchell's is that the menu is SO BG! Fellow yelping buddy Harold and I have counted at least 67 different items we'd like to try. So will I be back? Roger that! Maybe even this Sunday to catch some of the 49er game on one of their many HD TVs. The diner is fine. However I think it's beyond ridiculous to charge 6.99 for a scoop of ice cream and call it a sundae. The sad dish of ice cream had barely any whipped cream and was a flat as the horizon. When this was brought to the managers attention it was rudely dismissed. Truly sad as Mitchell's is my child's favorite restaurant and we went to the old location often. We will no longer be dining here. Management should value the concerns of customers.
