I loved the salad because my grandma would make it the same with only Mayo . I would only order the beef next time . Place is a complete rip off. I have never heard of any Mexican restaurant that serves combination plates and the beans and rice are NOT included. And the food is not even that great. I only had the chance to go twice, but it was a tasty, yet Americanized Mexican restaurant. It's a little historic gem, as Taco Bell apparently took ideas from their menu to craft their own. I enjoy the fact that the restaurant is pretty original, so you get a chance to experience it in all of its Glory. Parking can be tricky, as it is off a main road, but you can find some in the back. We waited for about 15 mins to sit. Coming here, that's actually not long for waiting here. Usually it's way longer than that. We sat down. Waited..... and waited some more. The young lady who actually helped us brought us our drinks. That was it. 3 more tables were seated. One of the tables even pointed out to the waiter that we were there before them and the other tables. Waiter looks back at us, turns back around, and takes their order anyways. Myself, my wife and my daughter decide to get up and leave. From the time we sat down to everyone else getting their orders taken, we've been sitting for about 30 mins now with only the young woman who took our drink orders. This was very disappointing as we've been coming here for years now. This has always been one of our go to places for our family when they come out to visit us. I have to admit I did not find out about Mitla until Gustavo Arellano visited the location on the Taco episode of "Ugly Delicious." With that said this historical place is the oldest Mexican restaurant in all of Southern California at just over 80 years old. Most notably, this restaurant is where John Bell got the idea of starting Taco Bell. Now as for the food, it doesn't get more classic Cal-Mex then this. Chips came warm, salsa was not spicy at all. I had to try their tacos obviously, so went ahead and tried both the chicken and shredded beef hard tacos & a shredded beef soft taco (which is still deep fried and not that soft). Simple and delicious. They can be a bit pricey, but keep in mind the history behind this place and the classic diner experience you're actually paying for. read more

Came here for my grandpa's birthday at their hall next door. My family has been coming to the mitla since it's opened. We love the mitla. Every major event we have it's at the mitla. We recently visited San Bernardino & had dinner here. The atmosphere was pleasant & the food was delicious. Our order was fairly small & after our waiter delivered our food, he abandoned us without any explanation. Eventually, we had to ask a different wait-staff member for more to drink & for our bill. I cut my teeth in the restaurant business & was always taught that every table is equally important & deserving of the best service, whether it's a 2-top or a 10-top. For this reason, we didn't leave our usual 20% tip. Love this place but alway busy. I come on weekends for menudo but really everything is good!

The food omg is so delicious the best sides too the beans are refried and have cheese on them the rice is delicious too. The beef tacos are nice size with tomatoes and lettuce and cheese the enchiladas are bomb as well. Most everything else on there menu is very delicious only thing a little bad is the service there kind of slow but it's worth the wait not a good place to go if you're in a hurry. I came here just to see where the history of a famous franchise started. Honestly, I can appreciate and at least from my opinion picture how this evolved to what it is now. I went during what we can call a lunch hour, there were plenty of people eating, but were seated rather quickly. The service was average, nothing special, the place a little loud obviously because of the age of the building. I tried the tacos (crunchy tacos), but I have to say that although they were good, they were just your average crunchy/fried taco. In short, nothing special. To be frank, I have to say that I have had better and although I appreciate the history and the food, I have to say I am consistently puzzled as to how certain establishments have to many people when, personally in my opinion there is better food at local or similar places. Here, I cannot really say the portions are big, but I think you pay for nostalgia and history, which is fine, but I am not too sure that I would come back without a reason like a birthday or anything. Again, I appreciate the history and keeping the tradition if in fact they have not changed the recipes as they were when this place opened. This place is very expensive. The food was tasty and fresh. The tortillas were good. They charge extra for rice and beans (at least 4 dollars). I ordered 2 hard tacos a la Carte - the shredded beef was good the chicken was dry. The wait was too long, and it took forever to get our food. Some of the other dishes I avoid due to having the radio turned up to hide the extra bass. Mitla's has extraordinary history in Berdoo.
