    The Works: Bibimbop

Small restaurant that feels more like a food court style. Service was okay. Food was delicious . Got the bibimbap and it was one of the best ones I've had in a while. The restaurant can get pretty noisy from conversations from everyone in there.

I tried the spicy ramen with chicken. The presentation was decent, my bowl came in hot and bubbly. Its tasty and fresh, but at that cost I expected a bit more depth and flavor. Chicken was shredded and not tender. I'd rather go for other dishes if I go back. We were there before alot of customers and had to wait a long time before they got to our order.

Was craving for Korean food and this was the closest spot! It's a decent Korean restaurant with lots of your traditional choices including tofu soup, fried chicken, seafood pancake and more. Everything came pretty quickly and was good. I think the fried chicken was only fried once vs some other places they double fry it so it's super flavorful and crispy. Overall, a good spot if you're looking for convenient Korean food

BBQ chicken with banchan and hot ginger tea

My husband and I have been to most of the restaurants downtown in the past four years that we've lived here, and Mixed Grain is one of our favorites. It's so cozy. Their prices are more reasonable than a lot of nearby places. The hot ginger tea with the little man-shaped stirring spoon? I'm dead. It's cute and tasty. I just had the spicy BBQ chicken tonight, and it was my favorite thing I've had there. I will say the ramen didn't totally blow me away specifically, compared to places that specialize in ramen. Other than that, everything is top notch. Never had a problem with the service.

This is my second time at Mixed Grains and it's quickly becoming one of my fav go to spots when I'm in the area. The food is fresh, flavorful, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. I especially like how customizable the bowls are. There are plenty of healthy options and everything feels well balanced. The staff were friendly and the place is clean and welcoming. Service can get a little slow during peak hours, which is why I'm giving it a 4/5 stars but the food is worth the wait. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for something healthy, filling, and tasty in Walnut Creek. I'll definitely keep coming back! Side note: If you're a mom who's bringing a stroller, they will ask you to park it near the bathroom since the space is limited.

Had a great meal at Mixed Grain with a friend! I ordered the bibimbop with thinly sliced beef, and the flavors were really good. The fried egg was cooked well, and I liked the option to have purple rice aside from just the white rice. All the banchan were pretty standard, but my favorite was actually the kimchi cilantro. I'd never had it before, but I loved the freshness and spice, and I even took some home with my leftovers because it paired so well with the bibimbop. The workers were friendly, and the inside was very clean and had a nice modern ambiance

This is by far the best Korean food I've had since visiting Korea-Mixed Grain has brought Korea to Walnut Creek! After ordering we had banchan (small side dishes) brought to our table- creating a beautiful palate to go along with the main courses. We ordered Kimchi Stew & Veggie Iron Works fried rice. These were both incredible dishes. Packed with flavor & so fresh. My only complaint is that I physically could not eat more! The service was impeccable, so polite & prompt! The restaurant itself is clean & modern, a new favorite spot & could not recommend more.

Amazing food, healthy steamed options instead of frying (yay! Huge win!) amazing flavors, very quaint and cute. Quick service and easy to communicate diet restrictions

Every time I've wanted to try Mixed-Grain, it seems to be a Sunday when they are closed. Fortunately, I was able to visit the restaurant yesterday, and it was wonderful. Both the food and the service were exceptional. The only downside was the price. If the prices were slightly more reasonable, we might start going there every week. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for healthy and tasty food!

We came on a weekday during lunch, which wasn't packed at all. Although small with limited seating, the restaurant has natural lighting from the windows. We were seated right away and placed our order for The Works with spicy chicken wings. The Works bowl comes with fresh veggies neatly assorted and is gorgeous to look at. It also comes with the standard gochujang-based sauce which provides more heat and complex flavor. It was a nice balance of spice and cooling nature from the veggies. The spicy chicken wings were also delicious with the coated sauce and sesame seeds. It still had a great texture despite being covered in the sauce, and wasn't soggy at all. Would love to come back and try more items!

A few times I've been here I've heard customers speaking in Korean, so you know it's legit. I usually just order their Naegymyeon on a hot day. They have so many side dishes! They also offer scissors to help with cutting. While I've had their Korean BBQ, Naegymyeon stands out the most here for me. They also have robot servers to help with delivering food to your table. The robots are from Bear Robotics who had beginnings as a Korean restaurant, so the tech is spot on. But I wish there was also integration for a call button to get a server. Human service is pretty good too. They are a little more hands off so you can enjoy your meal in peace. My only con is that they don't serve Kimbap/Gimbap. That would just be a half star off. They also don't include the banchan/side dishes when DoorDashing.

Over…read morethe years, though, so many K-bbq restaurants have opened up that unfortunately Gen kind of slipped off my radar. But this week, something came over me, and I decided to give it another shot. Lunch was about $22 per person as of June 2026. I remember going to the Concord location years ago and feeling like the portions were pretty small, even though you could order it as many times as you wanted. This time around though, our experience was completely different. Every order came out piled high like a mountain of meat. Everything was fresh, the marinades were on point. On top of that, our server was so friendly and attentive. Honestly, if I could give this place six or seven stars out of five, I would!!! Honey Soy Beef Belly: Absolutely amazing. The beef was sliced thin with the perfect ratio of meat to fat. The sweet and savory marinade complemented the richness of the beef belly oh so perfectly. I also loved the generous amount of green onions they sprinkled on top, which made this dish even more inviting. I'd order this again in a heartbeat. Beef Belly: This is basically the unseasoned version of the Honey Soy Beef Belly, so the quality of the meat was just as good. The nice thing is that you can customize each bite with the seasonings at the table, whether it's Green Tea Salt, Sesame Oil, or Sweet Soy Sauce. Simple but delicious. Bulgogi: Bulgogi has never been my favorite since I usually prefer savory over sweet, but this was still very good. The beef was tender, the marinade was flavorful, and everything was well balanced. That said, I'd still pick the Beef Belly dishes over this one. Chadol: This beef brisket used to be my go to order at Gen. Somewhere along the way, though, they switched to a leaner cut of meat. So now it wasn't quite as tender as I remembered. Still though, the meat was fresh and tasty. Honestly, it really comes down to your personal preference and whether you enjoy a leaner cut or a fattier cut. Pork Belly: Thick slices of unseasoned Pork Belly that you grill yourself and cut into smaller pieces then dip in Sesame Oil and Salt? Yes please! These were incredibly satisfying. Once cooked, the pork was even still tender and juicy. Easily my favorite pork option. Spicy Marinated Squid This dish had that classic Korean spicy sauce that balances sweet, savory, and spicy flavors super duper well. The squid stayed tender after grilling, it was amazing. I'd definitely order this again. Hotteok: A Korean style pancake filled with Brown Sugar and Peanuts. It's definitely a heavier dessert after a bbq meal than what I usually prefer, but it was still really good. The outside was pleasantly chewy (mochi like texture), while the filling was warm, sweet, and gooey. Kimchi Fried Rice: Don't sleep on this one because their Kimchi Fried Rice was fantastic. It had the perfect balance of tang and savory flavors, and it paired well with all the bbq meats. Super yummy.

Was looking for a good hot pot place, and was in the Concord area…read more So I'll start with what I didn't love, but I did think it was a great gimmick for the area. The music was way too loud, almost like a night club - where you have to practically raise your voice to talk. It's great for guys, where their voice projects, but it's more difficult for anyone that has a bit higher. There are no tongs (but they will give you extra chopsticks). Also, the individual induction units are right on the table, instead of inset. This causes the potential of hot soup base spilling as a more likely experience for clumsy people. For the thing I love about this place? First... value for money. $29.99 per person for all-you-can-eat hotpot? This is amazing in this age where an entree is like $25-30. Appetizers are ordered 2 at a time, and meats are 6 at a time. Meats only come one on a thin tray, which holds about 4-6 slices. So you'll be ordering other helpings, since there are I believe 5 beef selections, and a pork and chicken selection (7) total. The middle of the restaurant is a large bar where you get everything that isn't a meat. The selection of vegetables, and noodles are pretty vast, and almost always refilled. The seafood area has shrimp, clams, tilapia, and mussels. Sauces area also on the sides which makes it pretty much an on-going motion. It's not the high-end of hot pot by any means, but the ambience that they're projecting works for the area that it's in and how they compete with the rest of the restaurants in the area. But for the money? I'd go here. We did sit in a side-middle area where it wasn't a booth. However, they made sure to separate out the seating so that if you were a group of 3, they situated in opposite ends to create space. That attentiveness of spacing actually created a better atmosphere which was a small thing, but a smart thing. Love that they actually celebrate birthdays with banging of pots, and wishing well. It's something that is fun for groups and definitely nice if you happen to be celebrating a birthday! Definitely will come back.

When we arrived, only bar seating was available, but we took it anyway because we were hungry and wanted to eat. They offer an extensive selection of food, and the quality is solid overall.
