I come here regularly, but I've had it with the inconsistency. Sometimes I get a great salad maker who is generous with toppings (and by generous I mean gives me a normal amount). Today the guy barely filled his tongs with lentils, eggs, croutons, etc. I asked, "is that really all I get," and he responded, "yes." These are not expensive items, people. Right now I'm basically eating lettuce with dressing (btw I'm 7 months pregnant and very hungry--so especially not happy about this). I don't think I'm going to spend $10 for that again. read more

This is a bright, clean, slick salad bar that serves organic/free range everything. The prices are high, but everything tastes good and the portions are huge. They have a really good variety of interesting ingredients. You can get one of their designer salads, or you can design your own. I've always found the service to be quick although I see other reviews saying the line is long. Personally, hasn't been an issue for me. My only real complaint is I think the meat/poultry/fish portions are way too small. Also, the people who work there bug me a little bit; I'm deaf and I speak with a slight speech impediment, and the cashier always looks at me funny, like he's afraid he's going to catch "the deaf" from me. I wish he'd stop doing that as I've been there enough times that he knows I'm not contagious. It makes me uncomfortable. Not the fast place or the cheap place for lunch, but these are some damn good salads. The ingredients are top notch and include loads of thing you can't normally get at a salad bar, including ahi tuna, soba noodles, blackberries, pine nuts, etc. The little white truffle potatoes aren't going to help you if you're eating salad to lose weight, but they are so yummy. One of the brokers ordered lunch from Mixt Green and I had their Caesar salad with anchovies. Fell inlove right away. Not a big fan of anchovies but I will definitely eat it with a good Caesar salad. I can't comment on their other salad since I haven't tried anything else. This place is a good walk from my work but when I crave their Caesar salad, there's nothing that would stop me. Since I've discovered this place, I don't want to eat anything else for lunch. Me and my co-workers sit and decifer the menu almost everyday for at least 30 mins cuz everything sounds so good. I certainly don't mind the prices, especially since I get a big tub of organic, freshly prepared, gourmet-designed, yummy goodness that fills me up and makes me feel good. If healthy eating cost me 10 bucks, I call it a bargain. especially when it has meat so I get my proteins at the same time and don't feel like a leaf munching rabbit. So... my goal is to try every salad on the menu, which now I find is easier said than done, since the menu changes seasonally. They even swap out the ingredients in the salads depending on whats in season. Anyway, these are the ones's I've tried so far (in order): Bachelor: 4/5 you'll like it if you like vinegarette (which I do) Porkie (seasonal): 5/5 just a big bowl of autumnish yumminess Madision: 5/5 it's a summery light salad with a tangy kick from the grain mustard dressing. Ok, seriously, these are amazing salads. Other salad places just can't compete in terms of the quality and freshness of the ingredients. When you're eating a salad as a meal, every ingredient counts, and I feel like Mixt Greens gets that. I've now had the Dagwood in addition to the Cowboy and it was amazing as well. I don't care for the dressing that comes with the Dagwood, but the balsamic reduction provides enough for me. I LOVE that you can eat these salads without dressing and they still taste great, but really, that's how it should be. When I've finished my salad, I use a little bit of the dressing as a dipping sauce for my bread, because that's how I roll. YUM. Some people complain about the prices, and some people complain they're too large, which confuses me. Calorically, it's about one fourth of what the average person needs a day... Which I think is the perfect lunch portion if you eat breakfast, dinner and snacks. I don't understand how you would make two meals out of this unless you eat 7 or 8 meals a day. In any case, the fact that they *are* so filling and satiating should speak in their favor. $10 for a healthy meal is so worth it in my opinion. I thought about bringing in my own salads to work but to keep fresh produce and meat around is not a trivial or cheap task. Oh, and the line actually isn't bad most of the time. Moves quickly and after 12:30 or so it dies down a little. And a tip for those of you who complain about the light vs medium vs heavy dressing portions not being the right amount... Really good salads here. A bit pricey but worth it. I can only come here on payday. Salads are about 12 bucks. We got there about 12:45 --- whoa the line was out the door!!! Co-workers who frequent there said to leave at 11. Didn't listen. Line moved pretty quickly. We downloaded the menu so we don't waste time figuring it out. l had the Porkey and my friend had the Madison. I at first wanted the dressing on the side thinking I could take the unfinished salad back to the office, but the guy who made my salad told me I'll finish it. It's that good. So I already reviewed the other Mixt Greens on Sansome because I go there more often (closer to work), but I do make the extra 2 block trek up to this Mixt Greens if I actually have time to take a decent lunch break and want to sit down while I eat. I also recently fell in love with their marinated tofu topping - yum. Pricey, yes, but eating here makes you feel so good about yourself for eating healthy it's worth it. After finally getting into my hotel at the Le Meridien on Clay and Battery at 2AM, I woke up hungry - so my friends and I decided to head to Mixt Greens on Commercial and Sansome for lunch. This place has a really nice ambience to it, especially being a storefront restaurant on an optimum corner space in the Financial District. It receives a lot of sun, which adds to its "organic" and "green-friendly" demeanor. While the salad I got (the Madison - mixt greens, herb marinated grilled chicken, asparagus, roasted white-truffle potatoes, shaved parmesan, toasted pine nuts, whole grain mustard vinaigrette) was amazing and there was a LOT of it - at $10.95, it is a bit pricey, so it loses a star. They do have pre-made salads in a serve-yourself area, so that could be figuratively cheaper, especially if you're on the go. We got there at around noon, and not long after we paid, the line grew pretty long. One really good salad - a bit overpriced - but nonetheless, great ambience. Tried this place yesterday after my roommate had been raving about it for forever. And she was right! This place is awesome. Every salad item imaginable, high quality ingredients, and a chance to finally get exactly what you want in a salad. What I got: mixt greens, balsamic vinagerette, red onions, cucumber, roasted red peppers, and goat chesse. DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this combo. Did I mention the salads are huge?! I go here whenever I'm in the area and want to treat myself to a good, healthy lunch. They always have tasty seasonal specials, and the ingredients are local, organic, and sustainably grown. My favorite salads are the Siam w/Tofu, Maui, and the Madison, and favorite sandwiches are the Farmer (you really can't go wrong with burrata cheese) and the Rooster. Yes, there is usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly. Also, the prices are a tad high, but I'm willing to pay more for quality ingredients. A solid lunch joint if you work in the FiDi. If you happen to ever be in LA or DC, they've opened restaurants there now as well. My only peeve about Mixt Greens is that they sometimes run out of certain ingredients and then tell you that you can substitute other stuff, but sometimes that just doesn't work well. For example: I ordered a Maui once (butter lettuce, coriander crusted seared ahi tuna, avocado, cherry tomatoes, mango, cucumber, red onion, mango citrus vinaigrette topped with crushed macadamia nuts) and after the guy had made my salad and was about to retrieve the ahi to put on top, he realized that they were out of it. He was like, do you want another type of protein? I was like "sure, what would you suggest?" and he said "Moroccan spiced tuna." I was thinking that there is no way that could be good, but gave the guy the benefit of the doubt as he works in a restaurant and should have an idea of what works and what does not. I was wrong. It was so gross...the fresh delicate flavors in the salad were ruined by a heavy dose of morrocan spices on some strange over-cooked tuna. FAIL. They run out of stuff a lot, which is fine, but it would be better to let people know before they order! read more

My go-to lunch spot. Here you can find sandwiches and delicious salads. It's not exactly cheap ($10-14 for a salad w/ tax), but the quality and variety of ingredients are awesome. You really do get what you pay for here. Absolute favorite is the Madison - kale and greens, chicken, brussel sprouts, pumpkin seeds, potato, parmesan, and their mustard vinaigrette. Sooooo perfect. Expensive salads but SO WORTH IT. This was still when I had my job otherwise, I don't dare come to this place! They always have long lines here but it's well worth the wait because here you can customized your sandwiches and salads to whatever you want. They have a ton of ingredients from dressings to meats to veggies and even fruits! My favorite here is their Bachelor, which happens to be one of their pricier salads at nearly $13 after tax., but their sirloin is soft and juicy, well worth the cost. My second favorite salad is the Madison which sadly became seasonal. Sometimes I would tell the guys to add avocado for me. My favorite subs are similar; I like beef and chicken so I always go for the Bistro (no more?) or disco and also add avocado as well. These guys make some great food and their ingredients are fresh every day; it's all so worth it! I so want to hate this place! How can I possibly justify spending $10+ on a lunch salad? Alas, the salad options are fantastic, seasonal and organic. I've now tried several (no favorite, depends on the day/mood) and will be back for more ... soon. The staff is friendly and efficient. How often to do you get to say that in THIS town? The facilities? I hear they're "green" and that's supposed to be a good thing. I'll go with that. More important to me, the place is always spotless. I struggle with the idea of others making salads for me 'cause I can't see what's in those greens (are they really clean?!?!) I do not feel any of that anxiety when I take lunch out from Mixt Greens. I am getting lunch in the middle of the workday, not going out to dinner with friends. Paying $12 (which doesn't include your organic tea or lemonade) for lunch on any sort of semi-regular basis is Not Really Sustainable. 2) The portions are way - too - big. I feel like I should be at the cheesecake factory or something. Again, this is lunch! There are plenty of places in the area with more reasonably-priced (and reasonably-sized) salads. I have tried the: Disco sandwich (house-roasted turkey breast ,vine-ripened tomato, applewood smoked bacon, butter lettuce, ancho chile aioli, on an acme bread herb slab) & Mixt cobb salad (butter lettuce, herb marinated grilled chicken, blue cheese, avocado, egg, cherry tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon, cucumber, mixt vinaigrette). I ask for it without the cheese, and i'll add mango & roasted red peppers to this. It jacks the price up to about $10 but thats the only way i'll eat it. This place always has a crazy line out the door, but the people making the salads are pretty quick about it. I always end up eating the whole salad & feeling full mainly because of the chicken in the mixt cobb, but i'm always generally satisfied as far as having eatin a salad. I recommend it! read more

I have to leave off 2 stars because I may go broke from eating here every day. I am fine with $11 for a salad with seared ahi tuna, but I am not so cool with paying the same for a salad with chicken. That aside, I am addicted to this place. Oscar, the cashier, knows me by name and is super-friendly. The salads are really delicious and inventive. My co-workers and I simply call Mixt Greens the "giant salad store." And in fact, the salads are large and quite delicious. Not only that, the service is efficient and, in my opinion, always friendly. It can get crowded, but lengthy lines that tend to form in this place do move fast. My favorite salad is the Cowboy with the Bachelor a close second. Make no mistake, you probably won't lose weight lunching on these gargantuan salads, but they're healthier than a lot of other Financial District lunch offerings. I'd give Mixt Greens 5 stars, but it's pretty pricey. Some may even say overpriced. I think that just makes me bitter because I can't afford to eat there everyday. read more

If it wasn't for the freshness and variety of ingredients, I wouldn't keep coming back for their $10 sandwiches/salads. I always get the sandwich with the steak offered. It use to be the Bistro and now it is the Royale. Instead of the standard torpedo roll, I'll ask for the herb slab. The grilled onions, cheese, quality of the meat, and flavor and consistency of the salad dressings really make the sandwiches and salads. Some low lights: 1. Long waits after 11:15 AM 2. Inconsistency in the food prepared 3. Customer service of some of the food preparers Some days, all the ingredients just come together and I'll get a great sandwich. On other days, I get three meager strips of onion that look different from the onions I'm accustomed to being served at the restaurant or am served steak strips that do not resemble the steak strips served on the last five visits, etc. And usually when I question whether the right ingredient was used in the preparation of my lunch, I get a very defensive response as if I was questioning the employee's ability to do his or her job. Some days talking to the preparer feel like being on the phone with bad customer service disputing a charge. Some of these preparers can easily take on the soup nazi's job when he retires. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the customer service, but when I'm looking for a fresh sandwich that is a short walk from my office, this is where I go to and roll the dice for a sandwich that will turn out great. Oh yeah, one more thing. They have a frequent lunch card system which sucks, for the lack of a better term. Whenever I'm downtown I come to Mixt for a few reasons. The first is because is location. This Mixt has outdoor seating and if the weather co-operates its a great spot to sit with your salad and listen in on investment bankers conversations while you get your daily dose of vitamin d. Second is my love of a good salad. Every restaurant has a salad choice but few come close to the quality of Mixt. They stand by their local grown food and it really makes a difference. Everything tastes like it was just picked or caught that day. My go to pre-made is the cowboy, which has a little bit of veggies and meat and awesome dressing. And when I'm on my own I go for the all veggie option. I highly recommend trying a different dressing every time to get the most out of your Mixt experience. read more

I understand that these things happen but for my first time at Mixt this was quite a shock. 3 stars for my overall experience minus the bug. ----- Last week I was in SF visiting my brother. After walking around the city for hours, I was pretty close to starving. When we came across Mixt, I thought my prayers had been answered. Coming from the East Coast, I visit SweetGreen bi-weekly and was thrilled to find a healthy option that reminded me of home. I ordered the vegan Be Well salad with "mixt greens." I took a few bites of my salad and felt pretty underwhelmed. The salad itself was pretty damn bland, but I was starving and well, a girls gotta eat. It wasn't until my fifth bite or so that I looked down in HORROR to find a giant green bug in my salad. The bug was much bigger than a cricket but smaller than a cockroach...ummmmm I went over quietly to tell the woman working at the cash register. She inspected the salad and jumped when she saw the large bug. She brought the salad back to the "manager" and told me she would make me a new salad... at that point I really didn't want a new salad I wanted my freaking money back. The manager came out, made no apology to me, nor was I given a refund... not too impressed Mixt.... I won't ever be back. read more
