    Peachy salad

Charged me extra for some unknown reason. Staff don't seem to be willing to answer questions about the ingredients. Edit: the extra charge concern was resolved in a timely manner! However I still think the staff could be more communicative. Really good salads overall.

What a cute place. If you're looking for something quick, efficient and delicious, this is definitely the place to eat. The salads are very well prepared, the staff greet you with a smile on anticipates by asking the proper questions. The line was cleared in a few minutes I know we're not sure why it was nonexistent. I would recommend this place also for its out-door. The secret of their success is the staff! Congratulations Areli, Adrian, Yadira for helping us out today.

Mixt Greens is my go to place for salads in the city. My one gripe with them is that every one of their locations is lunch only. That is unfortunate because sometimes I really get a craving for a healthy salad for dinner. The portions that Mixt Greens gives are huge. They completely stuff these huge plastic to go containers to the brim with generous portions of dressings and toppings. They are, in my opinion, very affordable for the amount served starting at $10. The best part though, is the customizability. I don't know of any other salad place that has such a large variety of toppings, greens, dressings and meats. Overall, Mixt Greens offers the best custom salads around and I will continue to go there whenever I'm in the mood for one. For huge, made to order salads that can be as creative as you like, "I'm a fan."

Some nice looking salad, though mostly lettuce.

And now for a salad stand that elicits strong emotions, up and down, the agony and the ecstasy, until the struggle and worry and occasional fits of satisfaction blend together and the whole experience disintegrates into such bland mediocrity that you can't possibly care anymore. Mixt Greens is a good gut check on just how completely you've succumbed to present-day San Francisco reality. There may not be a better salad for cheaper, or a cheaper salad for better. But the greediness and grabbiness of this chain always leaves a bad taste. They offer some patronizing counsel about how awful a decision it was to eat healthy today "said no one ever"--and yet it's really hard to finish something one has ordered at this place without hating oneself. I've always been a Design Your Own. Pick a type of greens, a dressing, and five other things. There's never enough of the other things, though there's for sure a generous helping of lettuce. They offer bread, a tiny sliver of a heel of nothing, I suppose for appearances. The ingredients are mostly fresh, though not really moreso than at anywhere else in FiDi. I'm rarely full after finishing one, and the only usefulness I've found is when I'm nutrient-light on the week and I've pushed lunch back late enough that a real meal might interfere with dinner plans. Then they bill you. Year-on-year the price goes up and the salad size goes down. They cling by their fingertips to single digits--most affordable basic option rests at $9.95--but then they add one of those dishonest "health mandate" surcharges on top and apply SF sales tax to the whole thing, so it's really $11.23. I've gone back periodically but every time I do I hate myself and remind myself not to go back again. I think maybe next time I'll remind myself and look back at this review to inspire better decision-making.

I liked how organized the line is - there are paper menus at the beginning and end of the line along with a huge menu above the salad bar. The line moved fairly quickly. I was able to scan the entire menu before it was my turn to order. I got the Brooklyn salad with medium amount of dressing, but substituted the romaine for butter lettuce. This was a great and surprisingly filling salad. My only cons are the salad is overpriced (this is SF I suppose, and it's conveniently located) and my salad builder didn't look happy (I smiled at her but she didn't smile at all).

This is the 3rd time I have gotten bad lettuce with either the old tops or huge brown pieces! For a $15 salad you shouldn't have these issues. The first time it happened 2 months ago I thought it was a fluke - the second time I threw it away and banned Mixt. I didn't have time to walk back and deal with it. So today my coworker was going and I thought it's been awhile, I used to love Mixt, let's go for it! GUESS WHAT... brown old lettuce! But today walked it back and showed them and got my money back GOOD RIDDANCE $15 old salad.

Walking in I wasn't sure what to expect because it looked pretty run down. I wasn't expecting fine-dining, but the place didn't have a welcome feel. We were the first table in when they opened, but unfortunately the service felt a bit cold from the start. Our server seemed disengaged, which set a less welcoming tone for the meal. The food was just okay for us. Our kids enjoyed their spring rolls and "chicken" nuggets, which were an easy win. However, the entrees we ordered were quite salty and didn't have much depth of flavor. Afterwards, we realized they don't use garlic or onion, which would have been helpful to know ahead of time since it really affects the flavor profile. If we had known that, we likely would have chosen a different spot. Overall, it wasn't quite what we were expecting given the menu and reviews. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't stand out for us in a city with so many great food options.

Lucky Creation hosted in the heart of SF Chinatown is a long time favorite of locals and visitors for their vegetarian and meat alternative dishes. There's not much parking in this part of town so be prepared to try to squeeze into street parking or park further away and walk. Otherwise, public transportation is always an option! For us, we typically just drop one of us off and circle the block while they grab the goodies. Their selection of wheat gluten dishes have flavor and texture profiles reflecting popular meat dishes like sweet and sour, curry, and BBQ pork. Each bite has a chewy and spongy texture which seems to soak up the sauces packing bursts of flavors. Eaten cold is our favorite method but I'd imagine heating it up is also just as good. Every time we come, sweet and sour and the BBQ pork are the flavors we go home with. Most patrons buy takeout but they also have a few small tables for dine in. The place is relatively clean and open, illuminated by the bright fluorescent bulbs in the ceiling and accented by the giant mirror along the wall. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. If it's your first time, consider perusing but also just ask directly. They may have some recommendations for your craving. Overall, Lucky Creation packs classic Chinese flavors into vegetarian dishes for those with dietary restrictions or those looking to minimize meat in their meals. The quality of dishes are just as good as I remember from when I was a kid although the prices like for all things have gone up. If you're lucky enough to have plans to go into the city, consider making your way to Lucky Creation and grab a variety box to open your eyes to a meat-less diet!

Bought my tix online and waited for the day to arrive. I included the offspring and +1 for the event. Got there early and found parking basically in front, a miracle in SF. Doors opened at 5:02 and we were greeted by the chef and staff all dressed in green like the Jolly Giant of commercial fame. The tables were decorated with flowers sprouting from funny shaped radish and turnip "pots". Did I mention that the dinners have been called whimsical......... So it begins. We got two juice pairings and two alcohol pairings and both were really interesting. The local Chardonnay on lees and the martini were winners in the alcohol category whereas celery ginger kombucha and citrus drink were rulers of the nonalcoholic category. Some refills were provided, yeah! First course - Miso celeriac soup with foraged herbs, walnut dill bread with kumquat jelly and chive butter. Rich and tasty soup with great bread though two smaller pieces would have been better than one large to enjoy the spreads. Second course - Lacto-fermented beets, roasted carrot, little jellies with spicy carrot salad and hummus. Everything was unique with interesting flavors and consistencies. Loved the little jellies made with agar and the carrot salad, Wow! Third course - Mushroom and beet pub pie over purple cauliflower béchamel. Amazingly flaky vegan puff pastry, don't know how they did that without butter. Filling was earthy and savory complemented well by the béchamel. Dessert - a selection of citrus based seasonal treats including chocolate, little cake balls, candied kumquats and aquafaba. Not just great for being vegan but actually a triumph. First time trying aquafaba and it really tasted like a light, neutral whipped cream. Big fan of the candied kumquats too. They even stuck a candle in the birthday girl's bowl and led the obligatory serenade. Overall a fun experience that reflects Alex Lauritzen's passion for vegetable based cuisine, taking it fully to the fine dining level but doing it with joy and whimsy. Staff and service were attentive. This was the eighth mushroom with dinners occurring once a month. They may also do pop up a La carte service but I'm not sure. Check the Insta @the mushroomsf for deets. We left pleasantly full so no post-Michelin pizza

I walked past it and got like a block away and was like maaaaaan shiiiiiittt Im turning around lol. I went back and came to get a sanny and Im happy I did, I was planning on eating it on the walk. The place has a lot of choices like a regular deli youd find in the northeast. San Francisco has definitely the best Little Italy as far as choices to pick from and its really big and spread out. I had the Goodfella. Roast beef, prosciutto, salami, provolone and basil. I added the pesto and olive oil and replaced the provolone with fresh mozzarella. Best part was there was an old ass lady who made the sanny and she loaded it lol. The bread makes the sandwich and it was really soft and crunchy. Soo good. I 1000% recommend this place and I am sure she makes all the sandwiches the same!

Wowowow …read more... Visited Alimento twice, my most recent being today -- 6/27. It's a small deli shop that offers gelato, sandwiches, and pastries. They also have quite a large selection of alcohol and cigarettes-- which could make for a good quick pick-me-up. I visited on a Wednesday night and got myself a cone with two scoops of Hazelnut Brownie + Stracciatella -- which were honestly so yummy. It was stretchy and soft and made for a perfect dessert after dinner. You are allowed only two samples though so be wary of your choices. Today, when I went -- I was excited to try their sandwiches, I was looking at the menu and the Alpino caught my eye. Normally, not a fan of bacon but this sandwich was fresh- the mix they offer in sauces and veggies were so good. The sandwich was refreshing to eat with a decent amount of turkey slices they packed in. The bread was also toasted and gave a nice crunch with a soft interior to every bite. The sandwich is admittedly a little pricey, but I would purchase again. Now the customer service, like other reviews may have mentioned was a little off at times? It didn't feel friendly or welcoming at times and when I was ordering I felt rushed or ignored-- I was trying to order two sandwiches to which, she immediately began to make the first one without a single word. I chose to wait until she was done because I wasn't sure when I could let her know about the other order as she was moving back and forth between stations, but she finished and I let her know about the other order to which she said, "How many more sandwiches?" Honestly, that comment did throw me off a little, but I told her this was the last one and she did make it quite quickly. Now, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt as she could be tired or not feeling the best-- but I would say I just wished she was a bit more acknowledgeable toward the customers behind the counter as it did make me discomforted by her lack of response and also the reaction she had when I let her know about the other sandwich. She did at least tell me to have a good day afterwards, so I do hope this isn't going to be a reoccurring incident as I really do love coming to Alimento for the gelatos and sandwiches. (~_~;) I would recommend coming here if you're visiting around North Beach! Alimento makes for a great lunch spot with their sandwiches or a nice sweet treat with their gelato. ^o^
