I've been to this place twice - actually both times it was a Sunday for dinner. It was empty, which made me worry, but I decided to give it a shot and I'm glad I did. The first time I had the beef teriyaki and it was good. It was a very filling portion. The second time I went, I got the beef hibachi. Loved it - except it was made with a little too much pepper. Was in a craving for sushi, so decided to check out this new place in the Great Falls Plaza. Nothing too spectacular, but still solid sushi to satisfy your cravings. Going for lunch is a great option, as they have lunch specials. Given that I went about an hour into lunch service on Labor Day, it wasn't surprising that the dining room was basically empty (only one other party). I sat at the sushi bar at the back to keep things simple. I opted for the $15 Sushi/Sashimi lunch combo, which gives you a tuna roll, 4 nigiri pieces, and 7 sashimi pieces. The service was good and polite. The prepared salad had a good ginger-carrot dressing. The fish was actually decent as well - tasted fresh and had good texture, probably a middle-tier sushi grade. The rice was nicely vinegared, and the dish came with generous portions of pickled ginger and wasabi. Overall, I was in and out efficiently, and the food quality was on par with most other small Japanese "cuisine" places I've come across. It'll be my go-to for quick, consistent sushi, but I'll still venture out further for more exciting Japanese. read more

There was lettuce in the spider roll.... why. It tasted really weird with lettuce. a little skimpier on the softshell crab then other places too. When I asked if the Foxy Lady (Salmon, mango, 'king crab', spicy tuna, and tobiko) had real crab or the crab sticks, they said real crab. "Like King Crab / Snow Crab" real. But what did I get? the fake crab meat. Which overpowered the entire roll. The salmon in the roll also tasted watery. The Kushiyaki was really dry/overcooked. Even despite the overwhelming amount of starched soy sauce. The steamed chilean sea bass wasn't bad for $21. Teeny bit salty, but would definitely get over the sushi. Everything had these pretty pretty sauce drawings as decoration. Cool, but would be cooler if I weren't lied to and served bad food. read more

When I don't want to go travel all the way to Mikaku, I go straight into my neighborhood plaza and get 1/2 price sushi on a Monday or Tuesday for a quick sushi fix. Though I have to say, this place is pretty average for a Japanese restaurant. I have gone here 3 times before writing this review, and I can tell you that on 1/2 sushi days they are pretty skimpy on their portions of fish within their sushi rolls. Most of the sushi I receive on my plate is sloppily prepared with the seaweed ring not fully stuck around the rice, and one time I had 2 cucumber rolls with the cucumber sticks shooting out of the roll and not even tucked in. Sushi is an art, and I really respect the craft that goes into it (because it's very difficult!) but every time I come here, I get jipped on fish as well as presented with sloppy rolls, as if that was perfectly fine to serve to someone. And they aren't even that busy when I come and they are also overstaffed. So I don't see what's the rush? I have also tried their lunch menu and, for $10 the bento isn't that bad. Nothing amazing or stunning, but good for the price. Miso soup has always been watery and bland because it has been watered down. Their tempura is ok, but it's nothing I can't make from a frozen box bought at Costco.... Then again it's 1/2 price sushi, so I guess I won't complain...but if you want REALLY good and REAL Japanese food, go to Mikaku! read more

First time here after living in the area for over 20 years on the recommendation of the wife as she came here once with a few friends. The lunch menu is a good deal so hey, why not? The place is pretty dead on a weekday and as we enter the sushi chef is behind the sushi counter and the other gentleman is also towards the back. He comes out after 30 seconds and guides us to a table. He comes back with menus and chopsticks/napkins and proceeds to throw them on the table in a heap. He doesn't set them in front of us as waiters typically do. For drinks we order water and hot tea. Wife orders a few rolls (snow crab california roll and salmon roll) and I order the Salmon Teriyaki bento box. The miso soup and the salad is quite tasty. As others have commented the salad dressing is similar to what is provided in teppanyaki steak houses (similar to a russian dressing) and it is good. The bento box comes out and the waiter tries to hand it to me as opposed to putting it on the table...kind of weird again. The wife likes the rolls she ordered, however, the salmon looks a bit on the dull side...not sure how fresh it is but the wife eats them all. The salmon is a good portion and comes over fresh veggies. There are also 3 shu mai and a few cali rolls. Nice portion considering the $10 price. Overall, the food is OK. Good deal for lunch. The issue is with the waiter...he needs to be a bit more professional as this is a sit down restaurant and not some carryout. Also, another pet peeve of mine - they charge for green tea...most Japanese restaurants provide tea for free...They should let you know ahead of time... I wish I had taken a photo of my dinner, because it was absolutely perfect! Tonight on the menu, I ordered their steak hibachi, and their shrimp tempura rolls. Everything was absolutely delicious. My husband and son ended up getting pizza from across the plaza, I know my husband had regrets about his dinner choice after trying my steak, it was cooked to perfection. I love hibachi dinners and Ive had it from all the places in the area, none compare to what I had tonight. The portion was perfect for a 27 week pregnant woman lol. The sushi here is definitely good, but the noodle dishes here are fantastic. The Yaki Soba with chicken served here is probably the best asian noodle dish I've had anywhere. We have lived very close to Miyama for the last couple years and just gave them a try - WOW. This place has some of the best service, Japanese food and sushi you'll find in the area. We've found ourselves going at least once a month if not more. It's small and quaint, but even when they are busy - the service is still on-point. Kudos, Miyama! Pretty standard, but great hibachi. Sushi is good too. If you've been to a hibachi place before, you already know exactly what to expect. Service was outstanding. One thing to be aware of is this is not a teppanyaki table hibachi place, but they just bring the order straight out to your table after cooking it in the back. read more

We ordered on-line using Yelp, which was great. We were given the exact time to pick up the food. Picked up the food and went home to eat. I kind of blew it, because while one of the thing I ordered included miso soup, it was only one miso soup. Sushi and rolls were good. Spicy tuna could have been a little better. Eel was fantastic. Tempura shrimp roll was really yummy. I would like the on-line menu to tell you how many pieces you get in rolls, sushi, sashimi, etc. We usually get this for a lighter dinner, and I don't want to order too much or too little. read more

Okay so this place is delicious. The bento box lunch deal is great, you get a lot of food for a good price. Their dressing is one of my favorites. I've been here A LOT. Used to get bento boxes like twice a week. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars, instead of more, is because more than half the time the shrimp isn't deveined. I find I have to sit and devein them myself. It happens with the rock shrimp appetizer too. I've had to take them apart to devein them and then it's all fallen apart. If they were consistent in deveining I'd change my review to something higher. But that's just a pretty big issue. read more

I haven't been to the restaurant yet, but ordered for delivery on a Sunday evening, which took about 20 minutes. The food was good, fish seemed fresh, minimal rice on the rolls which I like. We ordered the shrimp vegetable tempura dinner, the Clown roll and Sunset roll. I asked for the sauces on the side, since I don't usually like them. They poked holes in the tempura boxes to let steam out, so, the six huge shrimp were still crisp. They even removed the shell piece restaurants usually leave at the tail, the shrimp were tender and not overcooked or chewy. The vegetables were also still crisp and hot, a couple large pieces of sweet potato, a huge sweet onion ring ( could have eaten a bunch of those), three large pieces of squash- not just zucchini, and one overcooked and mushy piece of broccoli. Seemed strange since the rest of the veggies were perfect. Pickled ginger is a palate cleanser, and for all the rolls there wasn't enough for two people. I understand that Japanese have the miso soup at the end of the meal to aid digestion, so that was just warm by the time we finished. I didn't think the miso was particularly flavorful. However I've only had really good miso that had several layers of flavor, once, so I don't expect a lot from most miso. I do think they're a little expensive, but the have a -$5 discount for orders over $40 and -$10 over $70. The Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday discounts that others have mentioned can help with the cost. read more

As much as I was hoping for a good, new Japanese restaurant close to my house, this did not meet my expectations. As another reviewer already basically said, the chefs here seem to be used to making Chinese food. One might assume that they are Chinese food cooks that got some Japanese food recipes and tried to see what they could do with it. My wife and I visited here the other night. I had the Hibachi beef, she had the Terriyaki Beef, and we split a salmon avocado roll. Our meal started with the standard miso soup. It was actually quite tasty, but I noticed that it had a lot more mushrooms, onions, and tofu than one typically finds in there. I actually didn't mind, because sometimes I want more than that, but it certainly was different. My entree arrived about two or three minutes before my wife's. The beef was low quality, and for some reason it was borderline cool. Some of it was sort of warm, but honestly it seemed like it had been sitting there for a while. My wife's Terrifyaki beef was waaayy too sweet, chewy, and also low quality beef. Our sushi arrived last (which seems out of the ordinary). The ratio of salmon, avocado, and rice was pretty bad. I generally gobble up salmon avocado rolls, but I didn't even want my last piece. I'm sorry to say, this is not good Japanese food. read more

Ok, I am seriously shocked that there is a place like this in the Sterling area. I was bored of my usual sushi spots (they're good but just wanted something different) so tried this place... My first order was a venus roll and tuna roll. It was extremely fresh... and I mean, shockingly fresh. Wherever they are getting their fish from, I hope it never changes! I have since made several additional orders and was never disappointed. Everything tastes great and was fresh no matter what time of day or day of the week that I ordered. It's our second purchase and another disappointing experience! We had spent there $82! Most of the order was falling apart! We had cucumber roll for our son and it was just mixture of rice, cucumber and nori! He ate it with the fork! First time at Miyama this evening with family. It was great! We all love sushi and everything we ordered was delicious. All were beautifully presented. Try the 007 or the Miyama rolls - they won't disappoint. We ordered some vegetable tempura which we liked. One of my children also had the dumpling soup and loved it. We will definitely return! As others have mentioned, the service was good - attentive and pleasant. Price was reasonable, but sushi is generally a bit expensive. We were there for dinner and spent a lot for 2 adults and 3 kids. Bringing children is fine if they know how to behave in a restaurant. read more

My friend's wallet got stolen there. I reported it to one of the employees there and none of them found it. I asked for security camera footage and apparently they never even had any security cameras installed. What once was a relaxing, satisfying dinner turned into a disappointing, stressful one. Warning - I'm not a sushi connoisseur. But I typically enjoy it 4-6 times a year. Today, for my first visit for lunch I ordered my usual favs: spicy tuna roll and California roll. Both were SLIGHTLY different than I'm used to, but better than I'm used to. Both had a very thin layer of rice which was a pleasant surprise. The spicy tuna roll had a tempura taste and texture. I'm not sure if there were rice crispies in the mix. I don't know, I'm probably not making this sound good, but it was. The wasabi was flavorful and just the right amount of "whew", without being overwhelming like typical wasabi. I'll DEFINITELY go back and probably increase my frequency to twice a month! read more

This is a decent place for take out sushi. They skimp a little on the rice though. I don't like eating in, because the place is small and LOUD. If you do eat in, expect for people waiting on pick up orders to be standing over your shoulder. Very popular on Monday and Tuesday due to the specials so expect a long wait time. Delivery arrived fast and the soup and appropriate sushi were still warm! ( it was a cold day so this is actually a big deal) The sushi was fresh and didn't have a fishy smell.
